1.5hr return easy walk from the upper nihotupo trail carpark. Beautiful and shaded walk. The walk offers couple of waterfalls and a few streams leading to the dam. No stream crossing so no need to worry about getting your feet wet!

Nice flat track, around 40 minutes one way, lots of baby waterfalls along the way, one nice big waterfall and beautiful view from the dam 😊

Loved the walk it was not too difficult and a lot to see from waterfall to the impressive dam and old train tracks

Good walk, even in the rain, only rated it a 4/5 because it's quite a simple walk, and it's a bit exposed in poor weather. Apart from that I really enjoyed it, some great waterfalls and views down the valley.

There are 2 waterfalls - one is much shorter but in 2 steps. It’s just along the slope once you walk out of the bush. The other one is much taller & can be seen after the bridge & a gentle slope. After this Waterfall it’s about a 20-min walk to the dam, which u can see it along the walkway. The water level is so low that shocked me when I first saw it the day, when compared it to what it was 2 years ago. No wonder water restriction is still in place!

Splendid walk! One of the few places were you can actually walk to the bottom of the dam! Only a 40 min walk one walk which is fairly easy to complete, straightforward path to follow. The carpark can get full during the weekend so that's something to bear in mind, this is a very popular place.

You must have a reasonable level of fitness to walk to the bottom of the dam and back. Around 3 hours to get there and back. Very cold in some sections so dress appropriately. 2 toilets along the trails, both longdrops. One near the start around 10 mins in and the other at the last rest area before you reach the bottom of the dam. Great walk spectacular views. Not good for little children unless your willing to carry them back up the trail. Bring a packed lunch and carry out your rubbish.

Nice long walk with lovely views on the way but no maps or markings around for the guidance. Dam was nice

40 minute walk from carpark to the dam. Please scrub and spray your shoes when entering the track to help decrease the kauri dieback.
Journey down to the dam there are small tracks off the main that should be visited because it's a must see, because the views from different parts of the water flowing to the dam is 💜! Once arrive at the dam in the photo I took, is all rocks.obviously good shoes is required for this and I don't mean jandals! Proper walking shoes that grip.
Getting under the waterfall was refreshing. Getting underneath was tricky but totally worth it. I'll love to come back much earlier in the day to make the most of a few hours to the later evening.
