Reviews of Wairere Falls Track Carpark
R.
A spectacular hike through track and boulders...and great stops at the rivers bridges before climbing the stairs...it is well worth the climb! The view from the top of the Falls is a must see!! You will get an "On the edge of the world" kinda feeling.
E.
A good place to get your kayak in the water and paddle upstream.
R.
Beautiful hike to falls . Gorgeous views . Good toilet and parking
A.
Great day walk you can spend as long or as short a time as you please. Good to take a pack lunch and sit on the rocks so long as the water flowing slowly otherwise you'll be stuck on the track.
Keep an eye on young kids don't let them get too close to the edge and be a role model don't go there either very high up, very easy to slip you don't really need that selfie that costs you or others their life right?
K.
Great walk for summer as the track is covered in the shadow of the trees and bushes. The carpark is big and tidy when we got there. There is a compost toilet - you can see it from the car park. You will need to walk 30 seconds and it's on the right of the track. Highly recommended!
H.
Challenging track, pretty steep for a fair portion, but young and old alike were doing it, so if you take you time it's not insurmountable.
Great views from the top only, but very exposed so take a warm layer with you. Water levels were low when we did it, so could easily cross over the stream for better vantage points.
Track mostly in good condition, some boggy areas and rocks and tree roots to scramble over, tho. Would recommend sturdy footwear rather than the Crocs we saw a couple wearing!! Those white trainers someone had on... he'd have regretted those too!
Very popular track on public holiday: carpark is well signposted, takes about 100 cars. It was over half full when we went. Nice picnic seating and toilets to enjoy lunch at the end in the carpark, no real area up top to sit and lunch.
I.
Take warm clothes
45min walk to the falls lookout.
Walking tracks are very rocky, slippery on the flat surfaces (if it has rained)lots of tree roots & rough walking ground.
Sturdy walking shoes/boots are best
1hr.30min to the top of the waterfall
A.
Really lovely walk. Incredible views. Track is a bit slippery in parts but not badly maintained. Some steep parts that need negotiating and some care coming back down.
There are toilets at the beginning of the walk. But take your own toilet paper and hand sanitizer as these toilets are not maintained. (Biohazard alert)
Walk times are pretty accurate if you are fit. Allow extra half hour or so if not so fit.
Dogs are allowed (by permit). Great to see ppl out with their dogs but unfortunately not many are picking up after them, so mind your step.
All in all I really enjoyed this trail and we would definitely do this again.
P.
Not as easy as expected in places some maintenance needed probably too in areas. But a good hike. And good views.
A.
Awe inspiring and breathtaking!!!!! A MUST DO, not to be missed muscle aching but amazing experience. 90 minutes to the top and 45 minutes down...running!!! 😂 Weak at the knees, speechless and proud ❤️
S.
A difficult trek to the top of the falls but well worth it. The estimated time is fairy accurate given then relatively slow going. Definitely need to wear trainers at a minimum and bring water.
S.
Awesome walk to the top of the waterfall. Second half of the walk tougher than the first 45 minutes which takes you to the first lookout. All round an interesting walk with lots to see. Proper walking boots required.
R.
Bit of good experience since went on a hike after a long time. Wasn't the easiest... but beautiful nature there
V.
A remarkable climbing hike for beginners. The view at the top of the waterfall is epic.Bring raincoat, you will need it there.
B.
Small dusty carpark that can hold a few cars. We got in around 1000 and managed to get parking in the carpark. Otherwise you can park on the road if the carpark is full.
Be wary of the potholes and exposed rocks.
There is a set of toilet just a few steps from the track sign. Be aware you will most likely need to bring your own toilet paper.
R.
Beautiful scenery, used muscles I didn't now I had
Highly recommended
A.
Small car park, came there in Tuesday at midday, it was full, had to wait. However the trek is really good. Enjoyed it.
S.
Good walk, quite rocky, recommend hiking boots. Can be a bit muddy in places.
D.
A fairly arduous walk up the waterfall trail leads to a totally amazing view. Well worth the sweaty hike for fabulous views
K.
A not so difficult track. Good footwear, the right weather and an early start would be recommended.
E.
Amazing falls. Trek is what really attracts me to go there. Cant brings dogs with you from now on
g.
A lovely walk to get to the falls lookout. Approx. 10 flights of stairs to go up close to the top of the track. There was a lot of variety in track. Good carparking. Approximately 30 minutes drive from TeAroha.
J.
Great, steep walk, not for the unfit. Views from the top are rewarding.
E.
Great walk not as hard as we had originally thought took just over an hour
A.
It's quite a steep and rugged climb up to the viewing platform but stunning bush and scenery throughout and well worth it!
J.
Loads of parking.picnic tables.toilets at beginning of track.the views are astounding.
L.
Plenty of spaces all sealed , clean toilets, food and drink cart
N.
Absolutely stunning walk. Only managed to do the 45 minute walk to the viewpoint but will come back to do the complete trail in future. I'd recommend good footwear and make sure you've got a bottle of water and a snack- the track can be quite tiring as there is a lot of up hill walking and steep stairs. The viewpoint is gorgeous and really makes you feel as if you've escaped civilization.
R.
Wairere car park has lot of parking and a new toilet with table and benches for snacking and eating. The car park is at the end of Goodwin road.
U.
As warned at the entrance, walking track crosses rocky areas and has many steps and can be very steep. Tramping tracks suitable for fit and prepared trampers only
D.
Wairere track is amazing, and worth the walk. Car park is no longer gravel, it is getting to be very popular, so go early morning, or early afternoon. Take a towel and change of clothes and leave it in the car for when you return as you can get very wet at the top from the waterfall
m.
Great hike. Terrain is quite challenging, but that is what makes it a freak hike. Great view at the top. Well worth it.
C.
Good walk to the top of the falls
Z.
Shouldn't miss this place. Track is not too hard but you need to have reasonable fitness level and strength in the knees as will be required climb big rocks to reach the falls. There is a toilet near the entrance, omg, that is absolutely pathetic. We had to use it so totally disgusting. Sorry to give you a gross picture. The beauty of the Falls will make you forget this though :) If unable to do the walk, the falls is reasonably visible even from the car park.
P.
Plenty of parking space, to access the spectacular Wairere Falls track. Has long drop toilets but you will probably need to bring your own toilet paper.
A.
Car park can get full. Track was nice sone good spots to stop and take it all in! It was foggy when we got to the top so we didn't actually see the falls! A good walk. Good footwear needed!
P.
A reasonable climb, often over boulders and tree roots. But not too difficult. You don't need to be super fit to tackle this if you just take your time. There is a nicely built staircase not too far from the viewing platform and seeing that in the bush is a novelty in itself. The view of the falls from the viewing platform is definitely worth the climb.
B.
Be sure to hide all visible valuables inside your car away from sight. Lock all doors, set all alarms and do what you can to prevent theft, as this is a secluded car park in a rural area and you can be sure there are opportunistic thieves about. You can be easily be away from your vehicle on the track for a good 3-4 hours and that's more than enough time for car shoppers.
G.
Great place to visit , track is not to difficult though needs a reasonable level of fitness as you will be going up an elevation to get to both points ( around 45 mins each ). The area is the best to view 2-3 days after rain.
FYI = Take gear for possible overnight stay if an accident does happen ( First aid kit , warm gear, some food etc ).
D.
An awesome and relatively quick hike. Some good grinding up hill with a rewarding view. If there is any wind at all bring a rainjacket and prepare to get soaked by the water blowing up from the falls. Highly recommended this hike
M.
Such a stunning walk. We will definitely be returning. I would recommend to rather go in summer as in winter the rock get pretty slippery and makes coming back down difficult.
S.
This is a beautiful walk, love the stones along the way. It is a good workout if heading to the top but certainly worth the effort.
J.
Great trip good hour and a half work to top but well worth it. Amazing views
T.
This is a wonderful day tramp which is worth the views at the summit. Take a water bottle as you will need to keep hydrated while walking up. Make sure you have a good pair of shoes as some sections can be muddy. You may to have a packed lunch half up, at waterfall look out. At the start there is a long drop so be sure to bring your hand sanitizer and a roll of toilet paper. Remember to look after this outdoor treasure for others to enjoy by taking all your rubbish when you leave.
K.
Beautiful walk to first look out ,continue to top for AMAZING SCENERY plus great exercise!!
L.
My wife wanted to walk in the bush. We certainly got it.
A level of fitness would have helped. Not a walk for a wheelchair or push chair.
The view was spectacular and definitely well worth the effort.
J.
Great hike. About 45 minutes to the base of the falls. A little steep and slippery after the rain but there are stairs and bridges at difficult junctures
K.
Beautiful walk. Great for families of all ages.
B.
Such a great car park, lots of spaces to park cars, plus some rubbish bins and little picnic tables as well. Great work everyone.
s.
Awesome walk up to the falls, scene from the top of the falls is magic, great place for a few hours outdoors.
J.
Great hike up to the top of the waterfall. Lots of rocks, tree roots plan to get a little dirty and a lot tired after you tackle the stairs. Was so great even though I hurt so bad I was crying when I reached the top. 😀
Y.
Track is challenging, waterfall is beautiful.
O.
Car park is to small, toilets are disgusting, no bins, not even just a tap! No bench and table. However the tracks are nice, and you may find a table at 150 m along the track .
E.
Entrance to an awesome track. Very scenic. The track is roots, clay and rocks so be prepared. Quite steep in places, but worth it.
G.
A very good workout, brilliant. A little extra sign posting though would be quite helpful as can go down the wrong track.
A.
Wairere falls is a great medium hike. Tracks are in well formed and in good shape. Good shoes recommended.
B.
Park up and go follow the trail. Takes a few hours to get to the top but view is amazing on a good day!!
S.
Wow, larger then a year ago.. there has been some upgrades of the carpark as the numbers walking to the falls have increased considerably
L.
Lovely walk
D.
Clean and tidy toilets great place to visit
T.
We were surprised that the highest waterfall of the North Island had hardly and water to show off it's beauty.
N.
Fantastic and beautiful walk. Too many rude tourists on the weekends for my liking though.
N.
Plenty of spaces. Can bring binoculars to view falls from road.
D.
Carpark is a solid o.k., the walk is incredible though! Highly recommend going to the summit.
D.
Lovely place to go to, massive walk for the first time going and not being fit but totally enjoyed it

J.
Fun hike. Nice view from the top and you can stand pretty much on the edge og the falls
H.
Amazing beautiful Bush and track .spectacular waterfall.one of my favourite hikes
P.
Or sure why a carpark needs a review except to say that there is about 20 carparks here and enough room for a camper to turn around.
J.
Such an easy hike but very remarkable view
P.
Extensive and good amount of rubbish bins. Take your valuables with you.
C.
Great place to view a great waterfall as well as a beautiful walk
J.
It was great .nice walk lots of people on the track in the rain
C.
Yup. All sealed and furnished with rocks and plants. Really tidy and we'll thought out.
E.
Upgrade to car park is a massive improvement. Plenty of parks for everyone!
V.

K.
Lots of parking. Busy during summer. Got cameras.
C.
Lovely treasure of New Zealand. Hidden away in a quiet and serene environment..
K.
A really good track. Can be a bit busy at times.
D.
Parking is lacking for the summer seasons. People were cued up down the road.
L.
Lock it or lose it. During busy season I have seen voluntary car park monitors.

Love it!!!
h.
Nice falls.
J.
There’re plenty of parkings and clear signs. Best place to go on a one day hike.
S.
Plenty of parking and on certain days, there is mobile food or barista coffee buying. Great walking track to the water fall, though the track is rocky and have too watch your stepping, otherwise great. Can buy honey and bees, just up the road on the way in. Have to secure your vehicle even though there's surveillance in carpark. Great to see recycling bins and toilets. I'll be back for sure as it's nice and tranquil.

(Translated) The parking lot is the starting point for the hike to the Wairere waterfalls. The climb is relatively exhausting and leads on a path through the jungle. The path is varied partly with bridges and stairs. The viewpoint is about 45 - 60 minutes. You will be rewarded with a fantastic view. If you want, you can continue right up to the waterfalls. But then again the same time is to be planned. Sturdy footwear is helpful, especially when it's wet. A review of the pylonier.

(Translated) The hike to do is really nice to do. 45 minutes to reach a beautiful view of this beautiful waterfall (the highest in New Zealand according to our guide). 45 minutes more to reach the top of the falls and have a great view. Remember to take good shoes because the path is sometimes a little slippery depending on the weather.

(Translated) 45 minutes to the Falls Observation Deck. The last 15 minutes is a steep staircase, so hard but worth seeing !! It is the highest waterfall in New Zealand's North Island. Even on the road
