Reviews of Kaiate Falls
S.
A lovely day outdoors in outstanding weather under blue skies in late March... Several walking tracks provide access in and around this bush reserve. A stream feeds four waterfalls, three of them above viewing and one at ground level. A rocky terrain could provide a base for swimmers or those wanting to sit, observe, enjoy the ambience and partake of a picnic... A toilet is available adjacent to the car park.
B.
If you enjoy visiting and travelling places like the Water falls then this one Kaiate Falls is not to be missed. Nice step walk to multi layered water falls till reach the big one with multi pools to sit, swim and dive in. Beautiful place to visit and definitely to add in your list while in Tauranga. 😍😀✨🏔💦💧🌿
L.
How could you not give this place a 5!!! It is BEAUTIFUL! Absolutely loved it, we started our walk from the bottom and got the full effect of the place, definitely worth the walk around! And the drive isn't too bad either to get out there!
Y.
There's a uphill track and downhill track. Doesn't matter which way you go, it's the same amount of uphill either way. The pool is not recommended for swimming as the water is contaminated.
Took my dog there and it was a short walk. Took us about 30min to do the round trip.
2 x waterfalls to look at. Nice place for a uphill walk.
L.
There are several big or small waterfalls along the track. Nice place for the short walk. Enjoy the waterfall and beautiful scene.
T.
Easy to get to from Tauranga & Te Puke. There are multiple falls which were awesome with plenty of water flowing, as we had. There are plenty of tracks with steps to view the top and bottom of the falls. The tracks were steep in some places - allow at least an hour round trip for maximum enjoyment. There are great views of Mount Maunganui & Tauranga Harbour on the way. At the car park there is a suitable picnic area & toilet.
D.
Place for cliff diving ! Popular spot amongst the local area. Hike wasn’t bad, lots of stairs going back up to the car park though !
I.
Enough infrastructure in place to make this gorgeous waterfall accessible and safe. Dogs allowed (under control). Swimming is frequent, and jumping off the cliffs is great for adrenaline junkies. Warnings - water quality is an issue due to farm runoff (worst after rain); the paths are steep, with many steps, and can be slippery. Water is always cold, but ok in summer. Leave no valuables in vehicle. Toilet at car park. Nearest services, Welcome Bay.
S.
Not the most amazing waterfalls around. The best is the first waterfall on the main downhill track. Drove from the Te Puke side and was mostly a gravel road. Warning signs in place indicating no swimming due to water quality.
J.
Beautiful Awesome spot, nice native bush all around, treks with mighty veiws, big swimming hole, highly recommend
D.
Beautiful spot. Not far from Tauranga Central. Steep stair climb in and out but worth it.
Á.
OMG how beautiful. I highly recommend to the the trip from the top to the bottom falls not on the other way! 2 waterfalls around and the down one is just a next level. You can feel like you are in the jungle. J
F.
Attention!
No, you are not there yet.
When you see 3 little, big waterfalls, there is another far bigger one. Just keep going down the way about 3 more minutes, you will find the one you shouldn't miss 😉.
It will take about 15 minutes to get back to the car park.
You can consider bringing your swimming gears. You won't be regret. However there is no changing room there.
A very nice place you shouldn't miss.
R.
Nice hike through series of waterfalls.
J.
Kaiate Falls is beautiful. I didn't swim but my husband did and enjoyed it. Be aware there are lots of stairs, so it's not for bad knees. I had to crawl some of the way up.
L.
Little car park area with couple tables, is a nice walking track with a nice spot to see Mt Maunganui, 1st waterfall is a spectacular 3 tier then carry on over the bridge following the track to other waterfall where you may swim

V.
It’s a beautiful place. And they allow dogs. But be prepared for lots of stairs. The downhill (red) track has less stairs and more pathways.
C.
Such a beautiful place. Stoked to take the dogs. Check the water safety online before you head out to go swimming. Today there was a warning online about not swimming for to high levels of foecal matter 🤮, but heaps of people were there swimming 😳😂
J.
What's not to love about some adventure in your life- get some free adrenaline, grab your old runners, towel and budgie smugglers and head to Kaiate Falls. The climb down is slopey and full of stairs but well worth it as there's a big swimming hole at the end to reward you. Definitely wouldn't be taking any elderly family members here, otherwise you'll be carrying them out on a stretcher. It's relatively safe so pretty sweet for a younger family. There is a BOP health warning sign about the water quality, but the amount of people i saw swimming didn't seem to worry about it. Take a break from cafe jumping on the weekend and get to this place for a wilderness high!
M.
Kaiate Falls (also refered to by its Maori name “Te Rerekawau” or “Te Rere Kawau” as well as Te Rerekawau Falls) is a pair of impressive waterfalls. The first main section consisted of a three-tiered series of falls while the second one is an attractive plunge of a lower waterfall.
Difficulty: 2
Hiking Distance: about 1km round trip
Suggested Time: 45 minutes
E.
This Reserve consists of two major waterfalls. The first one is about 15-min walk from the car park. It’s a 2-step fall. Water flow is great & it roars loud. Another 15-min walk leads u to the second fall that’s a tall & thin one. Water flow is not as much as the first one but it’s beautiful in shape. Strongly recommended!
A.
Lovely peaceful place. The walk is very steep but it is a walkway built with steps all the way. You can take one path down and the other back up. Dogs are allowed on a leash and we met quite a few. Small dogs struggle with some of the steep steps. There are two waterfalls, the bottom one is the largest and the top one is in 3 drops. A few people were swimming despite the signs saying not to. A few cars were parked on the main road but the carpark had spaces free when we went on a sunny Sunday. Definately worth a visit.
S.
Worth a visit. Lovely location, falls looked great, plenty of water flowing. Downhill walk with some steps, however coming up took a bit more effort with lots more steps. Shame there were health signs advising not to swim. Lovely picnic location.
J.
A must see in the region. The maps on the trail were very good and easy to follow. Loved every step.
M.
This is a really lovely spot, hidden away from most tourists. There is a lovely loop road down past the different falls giving excellent views. The path is in good condition but it is quite steep in places as it does take you to the very bottom of the lowest falls. The upper falls is a nice cascade of 3 levels whereas the lower one is a higher single falls that is surrounded by a beautiful green amphitheater and a wonderful swimming hole. Photos include a couple of shots after a very heavy rain.
J.
Wow. Worth the visit. After parking your vehicle go down the incline and go left for a short while. You will soon reach the river. Walk along that until you reach the waterfall. Its magnificent. Go and make a day of that outing. Its a wonderful place. The drive down there is also magical and winds on a scenic route that sometimes become a dirt track.
M.
Love the walk down to the falls, amazing views from up top looking towards Tauranga and can see the Mount. Once at the falls on top of the big rocks it can be dangerous if you are trying to go for swim without jumping in as the rock is very slippery. Like all things mother nature, you go at your own risks.
Another useful information is if it busy, parking can be a bit of an issue but not major as you just have to park along the road to the side and walk to the main parking area then you can go from there to the falls.
D.
So lovely and very few peeps out on the trail when we went. Easy walk all around. Gorgeous, stunning views throughout the entire walk. Relaxing.
F.
Great views but very steep walk. Not safe with a child or elderly person if anyone wants to go to the bottom for views.
R.
This isn't the most beautiful hike in New Zealand (although it's quite pretty), but the series of falls is impressive, especially the lowest waterfall. The path can be a bit muddy if it's rained recently, and there are lots of stairs so in spite of being relatively short it requires some exertion. This is a basically a loop walk that takes about 45 minutes. You can swim in the pool under the lowest fall, but be warned the water is cold.
D.
Very cool and easy hike, pets welcome. Beautiful view for the Mount Manganui.
M.
Great walkway and multiple views of the waterfalls. Around a 15min walk to the base of the falls and a couple to get up to the top. Mainly sheltered by trees on the walkway. No toilets on site so ensure you are prepared for this. You can swim in one if the spots if it is warm enough.
K.
A bit worried leaving my veichle unattended however was able to enjoy the falls, but when I got back there was a car load scoping the cars out and left when we came back, make sure to take valuables with you
R.
-1/2 star because the trail is so short; don’t come here expecting a long hike or run (although would make a great stair workout)! But the drive in via beautiful rural farmland with rolling hills, the views from the top, and the many sets of beautiful raging waterfalls at the bottom make for an epic couple hours. You’re even allowed to camp there in a vehicle for up to 3 days, according to signage! Parking lot is very small though, enough room for maybe 10-20 cars, so not ideal for a huge RV.
The other -1/2 star is because I was hoping to swim, but there’s a sign “recommending against swimming” due to “microbial organisms” - not sure what that means exactly, but as a foreigner, I figured it was best to heed the warning and just admire the scenery instead.
S.
A lovely, short hike takes you down to the falls, which also have pools.
Swimming is not recommended as there is potentially a high bacterial content (although quite a lot of people don't need the warnings and jump into the pools anyway).
The rocks can be quite slippery at the pools, so tread carefully. Even if you walk with sneakers that have a good trip, there is a strong chance that you can slip (so stay close to any kids you bring along).
Overall it is a lovely experience and highly recommended!
d.
So beautiful place. 20 mins from Mount Maunganui, and just 15 mins walk to the pool and biggest fall. And 15 mins walk back. Public bathrooms and some tables and chair to have lunch. Easy walk. Nice natural pools all around and if you are brave just jump on the fall!!!
A.
Lovely walk, nothing too strenuous but very large steps if you're small! They do advise not to swim in the falls due to bacteria though so do so at your own risk!
R.
Only about a 10 minute drive from town up a windy road. It's a short walk down the hill beside the creek to the falls. There's lots of swimming holes and places to jump in.
T.
It said the water was dangerous and not meant to be used for swimming, yeah na we went for a dip anyways. Super cold but super nice, just make sure that you are in moving water and not in still water. Would 100% as it’s not that well know
黄.
Easy walk, 30 mins return. Nice place, worth it.
Pay attention to the reflection of the water pool, you will get beautiful photos.
a.
If you want to get an up-close looks and feel of a falls this is the place to go. We went there during summer and the falls is a refreshing site to see. Taking a bath though is prohibited due to high microbial content in the water.
M.
Beautiful walk , the falls are beautiful, and lots of amazing watering holes along the track to dive into ..
Recommended for all , good for kids and adults , my 1 year old and 6 year old loved it ..( 1 year old had a shoulders ride 😉) .
C.
We went after heavy rains and the path was understandably quite slippery so prepare accordingly. The falls were bursting the water because of the rain and were a sight and sound to see and hear. Note that some sections of the path can be flooded after heavy rains, but you can navigate around then. Parking is limited, but because it's such a short (although steep) walk if you wait a few minutes, someone often leaves.
T.
Perfect for a very easy hike. ~20min return if you stop to look at nothing.. Ropes to swing into the water at the bottom of the bigger water fall. If you keep your eye out you can find the NZ flag silver fern here.
V.
Ideal to visit through school holiday and weekends. Take a picnic basket and enjoy a day with the kids. This is a child's story book dream come true.
C.
Love this walk. Is quite steep, but the reward is high.
There's a large waterfall halfway down which is still very worthwhile if the full walk is too hard.
H.
Wonderful hike ,many waterfalls and beautiful track, hot climb oit but worth it , a favorite
M.
Around a 15 - 20 minute walk down to the main waterfall. Very good place for photos and swimming.
C.
Closed due to land slip 6/6/18.
Lovely spot. We got to see the falls just after some heavy rain and it was spectacular. The downhill track was gone due to a land slip and we could not get to the lower galls due to the path being under a torrwnt of water. When we got back there were two gusy closing the area due to the land slip and the poor path quality. Hopefully fixed and re-opened soon.
K.
Great hike if you like stairs 🙃. Beautiful scenery but can be slippery in places. Definitely worth checking out
C.
Beautiful waterfalls going step by step n you get to see all of them at the end S you go down having pools to swim as well!
K.
Really good for a refreshing dip on a hot day. Lots of swimming holes along the river. Also dog friendly as long as on a leash.
N.
Awesome place to bring the kids, unless they can't swim and your on your own looking after more than one, then it is just a nightmare waiting to happen. There were more people here than I would have liked but I guess it is a nice enough place to draw out the masses. We were told that you can hike up or down the river and you will have pools to yourself but with young kids it might be tough. I also discovered that drinking here must be ok as there were alot of people with beer bottles.
s.
Absolutely beautiful!
Short little walk to some stunning waterfalls.
T.
Very nice place to be! Beautiful waterfall!
There is a jumping spot where you can jump into the water! Amazing!
P.
Nice falls. One side troop berween 15 to 35 min. Small park area for motorhome. And better way for car is from North.
D.
Nice place to get away, great falls. Car park is a bit dodgy though...
S.
My daughter absolutely loved discovering this place. Perfect for rock-hopping. The bottom of the walk way is stunning.
S.
A good fresh water swimming spot with lovely view of the waterfall, a little bit tricky to reach down to the water fall as we went after a rainy day, but could better in dry weather, there is also a safe small pool spot to the right of the last stairs that can be good for kids.
B.
The paths are well signed but also feel remote. They are a little tricky to travel as the stairs were a bit uneven in places but entirely manageable if you took your time. The actual falls were nice, and the steps carved into the rock were quite magical!
W.
Worth the trip! Definitely head here if you want to feel like a mermaid in a lagoon! Also a great place to frolic with the local eels.
S.
Kaiate falls are a must see when visiting Tauranga. Good parking, clearly sign posted from welcome bay road. The path is very steep and what goes down must come back up, so be prepared for Abit of a work out. The bush keeps the sun off and it is surprisedly co in the valley. Take plenty of water cause you can't drink water from the river. Although there is a sign stating that the water is contaminated and unfit or swimming there are always plenty of people swimming in summer. I guess it's at your own risk. Take bread to feed the trout and eels in the bottem pool, bits always fun to see them. Allow at least an hour for walking time, more if you intend to play in the water
S.
Gorgeous area with incredible Falls, but unfortunately the locals have left actual trash all over the trails, and the steps are poorly maintained. I saw a whole old CRT TV smashed in one on the rivers. It's still worth checking out though!
M.
Loved the walk to get the falls and the falls themselves are nice. Different stages and diving holes!
m.
Nice short walk. Do not keep valuables in your car. Unfortunately people smash windows and break in to cars. Might as well leave your widows down.
C.
A well formed track (even my nan managed it) down to a lovely spot under the waterfalls. Nice and quiet. No facilities.
2.
Awesome, lovely sunny day, lovely waterfalls, worth the swim once you get down there
W.
Small yet beautiful walk. Lots of great places to jump in the river too when it's a hot day. Would certainly recommend going.
H.
Short and easy walk to falls, nice place for quick stroll
B.
Very busy therefore it's safe,we are 75yrs and did the whole walk with ease
s.
It was amazing whether when i been there and the falls is soo cool i really like it and i will visit again and again
M.
Absolutely stunning! Spectacular cascades and we'll worth the visit!
j.
Beautiful spot, well worth the trip. The walk down to the waterfalls wasn't too difficult but the climb back up was harder than expected (probably because I had my child in the back pack carrier). Side note; a car had been broken into just before arriving so take or hide your valuables!
F.
Track passes several waterfalls making for a real treat to stop and look. Beautiful spot for a swim toward the bottom. Despite the small size of the park, the steep hills around the river are preserved so that all you can see is native bush.
H.
Easy walk. Water was nice in the summer for a swim and Jump of the top
B.
This place is amazing! A fairly easy hike down, so worth it. It feels like being on a movie set!
J.
Absolutely stunning, decent walk, car park is a little dodgy but still beautiful.
R.
Great falls, around 30 mins walk. Good for a visit.
H.
Nice walk and beautiful water falls. Car parks might be full on nice day.
E.
What a lovely spot, I also love that there is freedom camping allowed here. However our first night sleeping there, a group of people that arrived after us, notified us they were having a bonfire and we may want to move because they might be loud. We moved to the furthest away parking spot but at 11 PM I had to get out and ask them to keep it down I don’t know if this is typical of the spot or not. For the experienced canyoner this is an awesome little run with virtually no approach, three abseils and a nice 7 or 8 meter jump available into the bottom pool. Do not try this unless you’re an experienced canyonneer though.
Q.
Very relaxing and short track which is good for kids and elders too.
L.
Didnt take long to get to the falls, great place, they have made it as safe as they possibly can. We carried out 18 monhs old and she walked little bits. Take a snack, a little chilly at this time.
r.
Awesome views, very nice well maintained track and the total distance is a nice short 10 minute bush walk with some of the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen
M.
A very pleasant walk and not too far to walk.
K.
was nice swim jst the water looked a bit yellow also they need a water tap up the top
C.
Awesome to see...beware not to swim in the lake found below as there are micro bacteria to be found.other than that a beautiful hike easy enough for the whole family to enjoy
M.
Beautiful and relaxing here(though unless you are walking back up the stairs which is a great work out)stunning view of the Mauao (mount area)from the start of the track turn left and it takes you back to the bridge you went over to get up to the carpark, lovely along the waters edge and you are at the top of the first waterfall. Turn right at start of track and go down to look up at stunning mini waterfalls, with rock formations surroundings.. Then across the wee bridge to the left down stairs to another bigger waterfall cascading over beautiful mossy rocks into a water pool. Love this place, the bird sounds, the sunlight through the trees, the noise of the waterfalls, the simplicity of nature, the freshness in the air, just a wonderful place to rejuvenate your soul.
D.
Good walk. Signs stating the water isn't safe to swim in.
R.
A very beautiful set of falls. The path down was steep and a bit muddy. Not recommended for seniors or very young children.
D.
Short walk would be an awesome swimming hole but water warnings ⚠️ were in place when I went
N.
Easy walk with beautiful views up towards falls & down the valley.
B.
Totally worth to visit and see this beautiful waterfall
C.
Closed due to land slip 6/6/18.
Lovely spot. We got to see the falls just after some heavy rain and it was spectacular. The downhill track was gone due to a land slip and we could not get to …
B.
Beautiful waterfalls. So much better than we expected. Very enjoyable walk as well
A.
Awesome! And the falls aren't that far from the parking (less than 5min walk)
K.
A fairly easy hike/walk.
You can also swim at the falls.
S.
Amazing national Park with a beautiful lake and a lot of activities to do (camping, Fishing, trekking, swimming,...)
F.
Track passes several waterfalls making for a real treat to stop and look. Beautiful spot for a swim toward the bottom. Despite the small size of the park, the steep hills around the river are preserved so that all you can see is native bush.
W.
Small yet beautiful walk. Lots of great places to jump in the river too when it's a hot day. Would certainly recommend going.
j.
Beautiful spot, well worth the trip. The walk down to the waterfalls wasn't too difficult but the climb back up was harder than expected (probably because I had my child in the back pack carrier). Side note; a car had been broken into just before arriving so take or hide your valuables!
A.
The falls were very impressive. It was quite crowded where people were swimming but it was a public holiday at the time. The walk back to the car park was steep with lots of steps but manageable for medium fitness.
I would recommend it.
K.
A fairly easy hike/walk.
You can also swim at the falls.
J.
Lovely walk. Very steep. Needs more handrails
G.
Very cool and picture beatuafull place to visit
R.
I'm almost tempted to give this spot a one star rating because I really don't want it to become crowded with hundreds of tourists - because it really is so beautiful and has everything going for it! Several beautiful waterfalls in a bush setting with a well established traffic. And its a reasonably unchallenging 30-40 minute round trip!
B.
Totally worth to visit and see this beautiful waterfall
N.
Small waterfall but pretty and easily accessible
K.
Well worth a visit. Would be great if they could upgrade the steps.
P.
Nice little local spot. Parking is limited but there is space 100m down the road. The main area has a long-drop, as well as a small green area with a single picnic table. The walking trails are fairly easy. Some steep, but short walks (10-20 min). Not for anything with wheels. Check the on-site notices regarding water quality before you take a dip.
A.
Simple walking for anyone. Lots of steps but there are some tracks you can avoid steps. Water falls look amazing but unfortunately, there's high risk at biomicronial contamination so that you can't swim.
Still beautiful and enjoyed it =)
B.
Beautiful waterfalls. So much better than we expected. Very enjoyable walk as well
T.
Good swim, could do with better facilities. But, it works
Q.
As soon as we pulled up. Someone came up to us panicking just to warn us that their friend just got their car broken into. Felt sketch the whole time. Waterfalls were alright.
T.
Great walk to the bottom of the falls that loops back up to the top.
You can stand at the puna/pool and the very top of the falls and go for a swim.
Such a beautiful place to visit
a.
This little park has several beautiful falls with the lowest falls dropping into a swimming hole. The loop trail takes 30 min to an hour. Quite a few stairs down to the bottom. Most of the trail and stairs are in reasonable condition. Lots of kids swimming at bottom despite signs warning not safe!
S.
Neat walk. We did it in the rain which was slightly challenging.
R.
What a great spot. Very picturesque and busy. Well formed but steep track. Good swimming though the health authorities don't recommend it due to high E. Coli levels.
A.
Loved this place. Absolutely stunning. Great walks. Amazing scenery. Love it!
R.
Lovely short walk down a wee bit steep path but easy enough to walk. U can jump off some rocks into the pool below at the bottom. There are spots along the waterfall walk with small pools where groups can hang out
b.
Perfect NZ Bush landscape. The car park is a bit small but this is quite an undiscovered gem so not really a problem. The access paths are steep but have sensible sized steps and handrails where needed. The perfect place to spend an hour taking in the sights and sounds of some small but perfect waterfalls, some of which come down in several stages with spectacular plunge pools too.
P.
When you don't have much time but want to show some of NZ's beautiful scenery Kaiate Falls is fabulous. It can be a bit slippery if its just rained but then the falls are even more spectacular.Beautiful place to visit. Walk to falls is steep in parts but trainers do the trick! Water falls are fabulous and despite signs people were swimming. You have to climb up then jump in - the water is incredibly cold,
M.
I ended up at this fall by serendipity. It has an amazing trail all around it. When you get to the bottom you can swim in it. Not entirely sure of the water quality but plenty of people jumping off the rocks. Really really beautiful place.
T.
A lovely spot for a picnic up by the carpark. Just need to make sure you leave no valuables in your vehicle if you go for a walk due to thieving opportunists. The walk down to the waterfall is worthwhile but be aware it is steep with lots of steps.
M.
When you don't have much time but want to show some of NZ's beautiful scenery Kaiate Falls is fabulous. It can be a bit slippery if its just rained but then the falls are even more spectacular. Very nice falls with plenty of nature around. Take care when climbing the rocks. Water is not drinkable, so have water with you. Beautiful place to visit. Walk to falls is steep in parts but trainers do the trick! Water falls are fabulous and despite signs people were swimming. You have to climb up then jump in - the water is incredibly cold, so be prepared. There is a toilet near the car park but only use if desperate
R.
One of the nicest waterfall walks in the area. We visited here on a day when there were only a few other visitors and were able to get some super photos from locations we wouldn't have been able to reach if it had been crowded. There are quite a few uneven stairs in places and the elevation changes rapidly so you need reasonable fitness levels. Proper foot wear such as good walking sandals or hiking boots is essential as there are uneven slippery surfaces both on the trails and the rocks near the stream. Highly recommended and just a 15 minute scenic drive from Papamoa/Tauranga area.
N.
Easy walk with beautiful views up towards falls & down the valley.
F.
These falls are well worth the walk down. A few stairs and all up hill when your done but totally worth the effort. The kids were fine.
C.
Amazing spot for a walk an swim
D.
Half hour loop walk and you get to see two lots of nice waterfalls, and native bush. Last waterfall is also a swimming hole for locals. At the top are some nice views of the Mount. Parking can be a nightmare, recommend just parking by the bridge and walking up (turning around can be tight if you have a large car). Toilet also available at the car park
H.
A surprisingly beautiful set of waterfalls on a short walk. The falls are in several drops over quite a distance. The path has a lot of steep steps, so it's not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs or anyone with mobility issues.
A.
Awesome! And the falls aren't that far from the parking (less than 5min walk)
J.
Such a good walking track down to the main water fall and little dog friends are welcome. Be aware that the way up is up a hill. Just be cautious of any water quality warnings the council posts at the start of the walking track for your dog and your safety.
Great place to swim if you get the chance too.
M.
Stunning location. The bottom set of falls are the best.
S.
Great views and well worth it though the road to it is narrow at the end!
M.
Nice quick loop track to the waterfall and back.
W.
Great loop walk. Some stairs but good for low - medium fitness levels. excellent falls and easy parking. Just drive slowly as it’s a narrow drive into carpark.
L.
Absolutely beautiful falls and stream. Popular, so car park is often full. Single long drop toilet. Car park security has been a problem in the past. Relatively steep but suitable for most ages. Not push chair friendly.
K.
Beautiful hike, stunning views, easy and short if you don't have all day. Perfect for the whole family. Not too far from civilization.
R.
Most greeny water falls near to Tauranga. Cliff is the main attraction of this place. Approximately 25 feet high and enough depth to jump. Make sure the person who jumping should know swimming. Chill experience to each visitor.Water is not clear , so very difficult to see the ground under the water.
T.
Beware this place will test your fitness level very quickly. Whilst I found it easy enough to walk down to the falls I will admit I struggled big time getting back to the car park as it is very steep in areas & some place have nothing to hold on to as you climb the steps. The walk was worth it in the end.
M.
Beautiful place but walkways and steps badly in need of maintenance. Relatively easy going despite being steep in places. Got to be careful around the falls as underfoot can be slippy.
J.

M.
Very nice walkway, but be careful as it can get slippery on some parts. Steep steps and loose gravel on some parts. Still worth the hike. Lokals also bath in parts of the pools in front of the many waterfalls you get to see here
J.
A beautiful place to walk in the evening. Wouldn't suggest swimming due to high microbial activity as mentioned in the parking area.
L.
Fantastic little walk, lots of inclines and declines so you feel like you get a good workout even though you're only there for around an hour or so.
Gorgeous scenery and the sound of flowing water is so relaxing.
J.
Great walk for a reasonable level of fitness. I recommend as a must visit if a fairly steep but manageable climb is not too daunting. Also walk the track at the top upstream to the road bridge. Remember nothing valuable left in the car especially wallets etc. Not worth the risk.
N.
Really spectacular and quite wet after all the rain in early February 2018. Not sure what the river is like when it's a bit more dry, but when I did it, the lower trail did involve crossing the river in about two feet of fast moving water right above a waterfall. Water shoes and quick drying clothes are a good idea. There's also quite a few stairs. It's not extremely challenging, but might require a little bit of fitness or a slower pace.
L.
Great place. Jumped from the top of the waterfall - what an AMAZING experience. Wear good shoes though - as some rocks are very slippery! Nice pools for the little ones to take a dip in
J.
Nìce short walk. Easy done with kids
F.
Great walk, lots of steps for cardio workout and stunning falls 😍
J.
Wow! Beautiful view towards the mount over natural forested slopes. A steep climp down to two layers of waterfalls. Clear water spilling down steep rocks into a deep pool at the bottom. It was even more spectacular after recent rains. It can be a bit slippery & muddy when wet, so beware.
Well worth a visit.
T.
Please be extra careful when you go there in a wet day. Definitely need some maintenance on the stairs and the trail. Pretty muddy on the day I went but no complaints, it was worthy.
The view is breath taking. 🙂
R.
beautiful, magical place with a sensational atmosphere.
c.
Very beautiful falls, a quick walk to access them, and a very nice scenery !
T.
Absolutely beautiful waterfalls. Well worth a visit.
S.
About a 15min walk to the bottom of the falls, can get quite slippery in wet weather so wear appropriate footwear. Only 12+ car spaces but the falls are Stunning
A.
Beautifull falls. Nice little trail to get there and back but it's always a busy place to go when the nice weather hits. You can hardly get a parking space.
P.
Insane hidden gem with superb walks by awesome waterfalls. Access is not that well maintained, so proceed with caution. Also water is not treated, so think twice before you go for a swim.
B.
Beautiful falls with nice and cool water pools, a rope swing, easy walks with many birds and variety of trees, mainly shaded with great views of the falls from all round
M.
The falls are magnificent. But a warning to visitors to be mindful that the carpark is a mecca for thieves. On arrival we saw recent broken window glass , then witnessed a distraught young lady finding her car broken into and her wallet stolen. Really spoilt our visit.
T.
Absolutely beautiful walk
G.
Good family walk and one that you can actually take your dog with a lead. There are some steep steps, but fantastic views and a swimming hole.
S.
Wasn't a long walk but a bit steep. Worth the walk for the views
A.
A beautiful (very) small trek with well mapped paths.
S.
Definitely for the able bodied, do not attempt if you are weak of heart or elderly or pregnant. However, those who make it all the way down will be rewarded by a multitude of waterfalls along the way, including a triple waterfall, and various bird calls -- and you even get to see some of the calling birds amongst the dense foliage. We saw teenagers jumping into the pool at the bottom of one waterfall, obviously more brave (foolhardy?) then anyone in our party. Getting back up is a major endeavour, best attempted with multiple rest stops even for the fit & healthy. Overall, I would go again but not just yet 😊
R.
Refreshing, even though the water was contaminated to take bath or drink. Good place to visit for walk. Carry loads of water and liquids if you are going with kids.
C.
Beautiful...such a wonderful place to visit.
E.
Great set of waterfalls with a large pool at the bottom. Close to Tauranga.
Quite a steep walk with quite a few stairs but well worth the effort.
B.
Falls beautiful but watch for thieves. 2 break-ins with broken glass from previous day. We decided to do hike separately while one stayed with the car given suspicious female hanging around the carpark. She left as carpark filled up.
U.
Kaiate Falls (also known as Te Rerekawau Falls) is a 30 minute drive from Tauranga. The walking tracks are well formed, although quite steep in some places.
The main track leads to the top, and then to the base of the upper series of falls before continuing downhill to the lower falls. Another track, just below the car park, follows the stream back to the road bridge. Track junctions are well sign-posted.
Kaiate Falls is a a beautiful spot to cool down on those hot summer days, or even after extensive rainfall across the region the falls come alive and a spectacle to behold.
J.
Stunning, wish we didn't have such big water problems as it would have been an amazing spot to swim. But it was a fun stop worth exploring and looking at
t.
These falls a a hidden gem tucked away in the Papamoa hills. Well worth the drive. Walk down 5 min toch see the first set off falls. Then another 10 to see the big one plunging into a big pool. Great swimming in Summer.
S.
The water tastes great. We'll see how sick we get but overall a nice spot
E.
Nice little park. Great waterfalls and you can even swim in a pool underneath one. Great for a 1 to 2 hours trip.
B.
Beautiful little hike to a hidden paradise! We jumped and dove off the 15 to 20 foot cliffs! And I'm 61 years old!!
J.
What a fantastic place!
Be prepared for a short steep walk down the gully to get to the falls, but well and truly worth the effort.
M.
It was pretty wet and slippery when we were there so didn't get to spend enough time to explore all there was. Plus we were a bit concerned re signs about theft in the car park area!
C.
Some dodgy steps on the way down but worth it once you get to the falls. Awesome that it is dog friendly
M.
Small walk but very impressive waterfalls
T.
It was pouring rain during our visit and it was remarkable! Views along the trail were next level! HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
P.
Great walk, but be aware you basically descend down to the bottom of the falls and climb back up so lots of steep paths and steps. Swimming hole at the bottom.
F.
Great falls
Good jumping
Beautiful flora
R.
A great little walk down some beautiful falls it's steep and I wouldn't recommend swimming
D.
First time here even though we've lived in Tauranga for nearly 11 years, loved it. Even my 79 year old Mum managed round! We will be back again.
H.
Nice short bush walk in area. Beautiful water fall.you can jump in the water on a summer day.
J.
Great spot for a dip. Many levels of waterfall you can stop at. Not too much of a walk til you reach it.
D.
Stunning falls! Easy to come by location via car.. 15min easy trek to main fall! Great place to see whilst in Bay of Plenty..
R.
People need to stop leaving their rubbish when obviously it's over flowing!
N.
The waterfalls are absolutely beautiful! Nice walk as well with some great lookouts.
To bad though about the garbage people leave behind or come and dump there.
B.
Lovely day and very tranquil. Quite a steep track down to both falls but not too far so a reasonable level of fitness is required
J.
Beautiful but the tracks need some work
B.
Make sure you wear good hiking shoes because there are a lot of stairs you have to go down very steeply. But the views make up for it .
P.
Beautiful cascading Falls narrow approach road, there was some fresh broken glass from a car window. You may get to see some bong smoking locals
l.
Great bit of exercise with some interesting viewpoints along the way. Just don't wear jandals...it can be pretty slippery in places.
J.
Short loop track to see a number of beautiful waterfalls. During the summer you can swim in these pools if you disregard the DOC postings.
A.
Walk we had meant to do snd never had. Worth the climb and steps. But are a lot of them
D.
Cool place. Not really safe to swim due to farm runoff upstream. (People do anyway though) . Not suitable for strollers.
A.
Beautiful place! The walk is not that difficult and we just had a great time
j.
Lovely waterfall; keep at it and walk the loop. Short, semi-easy walk, although many stairs and rocks can be slippery.
J.
Beautiful area. Great walk up and down. Sad that we could not swim as there were bacteria in the water.
H.
Great little bush walk & swimming hole. However there are quite a few steps & some are very large, good to keep in mind for those less fit or able.
N.
Wonderful waterfall! Whether it's cliff jumping, swimming or just out for a stroll, this place is awesome.
N.
Lots of walking down to the falls. Notices indicate that it is not safe to swim but there were swimmers.
A.
I walked the whole downhill trail and then did the whole uphill trail back....highly reccomend you do this. The view at the top is beautiful. You can see Mt Mounganui :)
D.
Beautiful place, short walk but lots of stairs. Bring the kids but don't drink the water.
c.
Lovely walk, and gorgeous falls. If it was a bit warmer, i would've def jumped in the pool!
W.
Stunning views , easy walk. Awesome waterfalls.
S.
Beautiful! It only takes about ten minutes to get to the Falls from the car park, and they're well worth it.
L.
Great walk with great views
R.
One of the nicest waterfall walks in the area. We visited here on a day when there were only a few other visitors and were able to get some super photos from locations we wouldn't have been able to reach if it had been crowded. There are …
R.
This is amazing. A perfect spot to take some deep breaths and jump off
F.
Amazing spot, not to be missed. A few steps though but in really good condition. Take your togs along!
N.
Wonderful waterfall! Whether it's cliff jumping, swimming or just out for a stroll, this place is awesome.

Great short walk with views of waterfalls.
j.
Lovely waterfall; keep at it and walk the loop. Short, semi-easy walk, although many stairs and rocks can be slippery.
M.

Nice little park. Great waterfalls and you can even swim in a pool underneath one. Great for a 1 to 2 hours trip.
J.
Great walk & scenery
J.
Great walk and site seeing. I would not swim here, very polluted from dairy farms upstream.
A.
Short walk to see the Kaiate falls.
T.
Nice easy walk to get a few beautiful falls in a short time. About 20 mins for the entire loop.
A.
Nice falls, not huge but nice. Was pretty quiet which made the visit better. Lots of steps.
D.
Beautiful and dog friendly
C.
Beautiful! Signs recommend not swimming in the water. If you do though....... It's really fun!
J.

Amazing spot, not to be missed. A few steps though but in really good condition. Take your togs along!
M.
