Upon describing the symptoms to one of the staff, she said we should have the pharmacist take a quick look at him. The kind pharmacist determined our son had a bacterial eye infection and was able to prescribe antibiotic eye drops on the spot. The antibiotics plus an over the counter fever reducer came to $25NZD
In the USA, this situation would have required a doctors visit and separate trip to the drug store, costing around $300USD for folks without private insurance and maybe a little less than $100 even with expensive privately paid insurance.
So you could say this is a five star review both for the friendly and competent service we received by this particular pharmacist as well as the efficiency of the New Zealand health system in general.
Our son’s eye infection quickly subsided thanks to the advice and medication obtained from this pharmacist.
