M.The bed was a cloud, a CLOUD!! It was so wonderfully soft and plush, we were sad to have only had one night there but oh man we will be returning whenever we're in New Plymouth. I slept so incredibly well. I miss you, bed. I will think of you often. The other good things: staff were kind and friendly, the bathroom had a jet tub and lots of little amenities, the tea/coffee station were well stocked and a fridge was available, the pool and spa areas were very clean, parking was free and there was always a spot available nearby.
J.Was absolutely perfect. Room was amazing, aircon was on point, private, spacious, clean and the movie selection was wonderful. Loved all the little touches throughout the room and the thought put into them. Layout was great. Especially loved the robes and slippers provided. 10/10 from me. Thanks for a wonderful stay. We will certainly return.
M.The bed was very comfy, and the sea views were simply gorgeous! Check in staff was helpful and good humoured, and room service was pretty quickly delivered. Loved the art and sculpture throughout the lobby and grounds. The extensive toiletries provided in the bathroom and the coffee/tea set up were lovely. However, the carpet was coming away from one wall in my room (with trailing strings of carpet fiber) and sadly, the milk provided for morning coffee was sour. The corners of the corridor near my room could use a good vacuuming, as they were grey with a noticeable layer of dust/dirt. The hot tub I had partly booked the hotel for and which I had been very much looking forward to after a long hard day, was barely tepid (about 30C). I'm a NZ size 16-18, and the robes provided (a nice touch in theory) were far too small for me to use as a coverup to and from the pool area, which was disappointing. Oh well.
I mentioned the sour milk and tepid spa pool as I was checking out. The manager on duty asked me if the refrigerator was on and was the milk cold, which I confirmed they both were. Then he told me that the spa pool temperature controls might need to be reset and he'd check that. He offered to get me a cup of coffee but at that point I needed to get on the road. Nice gesture, though.
Overall, the good and the disappointing were pretty evenly matched. I think I'll try somewhere else next time I'm in New Plymouth.
N.The hotel is very clean, tidy and modern. The rooms have great air conditioning and a very comfortable bed. The food at the Devon is very well presented and tastes amazing. Great experience, thanks Devon Hotel for memorable stay.

With a relaxing spa & pool and to finish the day off a delicious buffet dinner at their Marbles restaurant . I got the sense they loved their job and it showed. Location was perfect, Buffet Breakfast and dinner was 10/10. Enjoyed the swimming pool, spa, the pretty garden and the aircon! Already planning our next getaway here in April. Cannot wait! Lots and lots of appreciation.

A.My room had a poorly designed shower cubicle. The door knocks the shower control, turning the water off if you start the shower before you enter cubicle. Other than that it was a nice room.
Post edit for owners: Can't remember the room number (maybe 618?) it was room right next to the cupboard right hand side at the top of the stairs behind reception. When you open the shower door (outwards) the tail of the glass door can touch the tap if it is full fully turned to LHS of control plate. The plumber has put it 100mm to close to the door.
S.Good hotel and good buffet. They provide nice bikes for free. Just one thing need to improve, swimming pool water is quite cloudy.
D.Commen areas are nice, however rooms are a bit run down. No noise proofing and air conditioners needs to be clean. Not recommended for anyone with allergies.

T.Reception is amazing here! Something had been missed during cleaning and the way it was handled was just absolutely perfect.. we were upgraded to the most amazing room! The bed was just like being at home, LED lighting in the shower and a massive balcony... with a big screen TV in the lounge and bedroom. Thank you so much for making our first ever night in New Plymouth so pleasant and enjoyable! Room service food was great, arrived hot and pretty quickly too! We will be back... thanks again!

D.Tidy hotel in a pretty good location. Rooms were tidy and clean, the pool area was nice, with a pool and hot pool. It's not huge though, so just be prepared to chat with other patrons (which I happen to enjoy). The restaurant is buffet and fine for the price in my opinion, although I felt it was a little short on decent vegetarian options other than salads. Still enjoyed it though. Worth a look for the price.

Parking all around the complex for those staying for short or long periods. Swimming pool and spa for guests. Easily found from north or south entrances to New Plymouth.

Hotel had a very warm family feel about it.
We had dinner at Marbles Buffet restaurant. If you want a quiet intimate dinner, this is not the place. If you want elegant dining, this is not the place. We saw people in bare feet, track pants, tank tops. A basuc tidy dress code would be nice to see.
However, the food was excellent. Very extensive choices and plenty of options for GF. For a good value meal out, we would go again.
Breakfast in the hotel was very good too. Lots of choice.
Surprised to see one guest turn up in her pyjamas. I don't think she should have been allowed it dressed like that.
L.Enjoyed the hotel. The pool at night. And the spa. Why the spa button is not close to the pool...I'll never know. The walls must be thin though..cause I was singing quietly on the guitar...and the cleaner could hear me behind closed doors. Food was the bomb👍. Service was great too.

T.Fantastic service from the moment we walked in; good pool plus the spa above it. Really appreciated the free guest laundry! Didn’t check out the bikes for rental/borrow, regretted that! Loved that we had robes in our wardrobe as well!

A.Our room was clean, tidy and large enough for a 2 night stay (twin queen room, 2 adults 2 kids) Staff very helpful and friendly, made the stay very easy. Whilst this hotel is a little out of the centre for walking, it’s actually a good location. Very easy walk or cycle to the ocean front track - past the stream and park, which is great. Easy drive to centre. Kids had great fun in the pool which was heated to a good temperature, and the spa was also great. Didn’t eat at the hotel. Would certainly stay here again, and for the price it represents good value with good amenities, staff and location.
s.Stayed here for 2 nights for the weekend. Staff were lovely and accommodating. Restaurant at hotel was delicious and really affordable. Pool was ok but not as warm as I'd hoped. Room we booked was cheap and affordable. Next time I'd like to upgrade the room to a bigger one but was a nice new room just a bit small
K.Wonderful place to stay - within walking distance to some good restaurants and cafes, plus the coastal walkway/cycleway is just down the road via an underpass. Inhouse bar and buffet have great food and friendly service. Would definitely stay again.

M.The premises are well presented beds are luxuriously soft lovely big showers all in all a fine hotel however on our stay we had not had our room made up and toilet paper ran out house keeping told us they were snowed under but really we paid a good dollar for service , the staff were friendly enough there was a plate of food left out on the hall floor for many hours I would have to say as an employer, need to get the staff to lift their game .Marbles resteraunt ,the food was tastey but cold so cold I did wonder if I should be eating chicken or pork , 3 breakfasts too , also tasty but were varying temperatures
All that being said I would still recommend a stay here
W.Comfortable king size bed, clean room & good shower. We did however have issues with the aircon which is unfortunately directly above the bed, either too hot or too cold. But good location & handy to town.

j.We stayed for 4 nights at the Devon New Plymouth last week. Our room, although a bit tired which was reflected in the price, had a very comfortable bed and the shower had loads of pressure. It was always beautifully serviced when we returned back each day. The lady serving us breakfast each morning was so friendly, cheerful and helpful. We are very much looking forward to our next stay at the Devon, New Plymouth.

T.Spent 3 days, 2 nights for a conference. Buffet breakfast and lunches for 2 days. Delicious variety of food was yummy. Accommodation was great comfy beds.
L.One of the best buffet diners I've been too in years! Plenty of sea food options including raw oysters in a shell, prawns, raw fish, smoked fish, squid, mussels etc. Hot dishes had good variety and superb glazed ham on the bone. Cheeseboards, soups which seafood chowder is a favorite and Hot and cold desserts. Kids love the ice cream soft freeze cone options and toppings. Balloons gave the grandkids something to bash around in the kiddies playroom. A must when in Taranaki, has a bar area if you're early and just want to chill before going in. It's always busy and full so call first and make a reservation.

B.We stayed for two nights during the first weekend of July, during the school holidays. I booked the accessible room and it was one of the best I've been in. There were a couple of little things that could be adjusted but overall really good. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They even inquired about how I found the room & there was anything that could make the room better .

D.The hotel room we stayed in was very clean and spacious with a modern decor. It was surprisingly quiet, given proximity to a busy road. Staff at reception and restaurant were very welcoming and friendly. Great breakfast selection. Would be great to see the hotel adopt more environmental practices. For example: there was no notice in the bathroom regards reducing washing and although we hung our towels up after one use, these were taken the next morning and replaced with clean towels. Power/lights etc can all be left on when you leave the room, being easy for people to forget or chose not to turn things off. The use of single-use plastic straws in the bar and restaurant also disappointing, as was the comment from the bar attendant when I commented on this. She advised she guessed they used them because it was a cheap option. Come on Peter.. make some changes for the good of Mother Earth.

Big shout out to Leah who was working behind the bar one of the nights when we went. She was so accomodating for us, very friendly, gave some great options for drinks and made some great cocktails. Really comfy bed and free gym. Only complaint is the sky channels were limited and one didnt work for me.

The breakfast buffet was not as good.......Savaloys instead of proper sausages and canned fruit instead of fresh? This should not be so in New Zealand!
We were glad our small room had a balcony, it would have been a bit claustrophobic otherwise.
Each room had a very curious bright red chair in it , which took up a lot of space......strange choice!
The balcony area was not very clean and the box for cigarette butts contained many of them!

2 stars for the cleanliness of the room, good at first glance, but toothpaste splatter over the mirror, lots of dust under the beds.
2 stars for the noise at night, the rooms that face the road need to have double glazing on the windows as Friday and Saturday night cars keep you awake. On top of the general hotel noise.
2 stars because our 'deluxe queen suite' didn't have bowls or cutlery to put food into ourselves in the room, there is no microwave, just a kettle and a few cups. And you have to fill the kettle from the bathroom.
Even a cheap motel usually has a microwave.
I would return for the restaurant...
C.Could not fault with our stay! Stayed two nights.
House keeping quickly made our bed, replenished complimentaries (everything you need and more - Shoe shine kit, dental kit - toothbrush and toothpaste, shower cap, make up remover wipes, vanity kit - cotton buds and cotton pad, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and shaving kit!) and changed bins whilst we had breakfast the first day.
Swimming pool, spa pool and a buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner.
You don't even need to leave the hotel really, just stay here and relax!
Free bike hire, free use of hotel umbrellas and free newspaper each morning.. you can even ask reception for PlayStation and games for your room! You can even get a complimentary round of golf or passes to the gym / aquatic centre.
We had early dinners each night so these night owls needed room service..
Room service meals are very well priced and the servings are enough for two! (We are used to Wellington room service sized portions and prices, so we were totally blown away). If they had something unavailable, they made up for it with alternatives. Instead of creme brulee, we got a plate of bite sized desserts!
Nice and friendly staff. The breakfast buffet ticked all the boxes especially with a Nespresso Expresso machine 😍
Can't believe it had been 5 years since my last stay and definitely won't be my last at The Devon.
For the price and the service, definitely a must to stay here.
The daily newsletter is also a lovely treat to read in the morning!

R.A compact room but has everything you need and very clean. Our room was overlooking the courtyard. But we could see into other peoples rooms so make sure you put down the blinds!
The breakfast buffet was impeccable with an amazing selection of gluten free/ vegan and standard foods. Beautifully presented.
My only criticism of the restaurant was needs 'real' coffee.
The hotel let itself down only slightly as we had unclean teaspoons for our coffee, and we had to buy extra as only 3 sachets provided for 2 people.
A fantastic selection of bathroom goodies supplied : shampoo, conditioner , body wash body lotion, shaving set, toothbrush set, shoe shine, shower cap, makeup wipes, vanity set and sanitary bag. My only complaint with these (if I had to be picky), the shampoo etc was very hard to squeeze out.
D.This is a second generation family hotel, the accomodation is smart and modern the restaurant is legendary Marbles Buffet with the local kids and caters for birthdays and other family events.
The variety of food will cater for most tastes, with several seafood dishes as well as roasts. If you prefer a quieter meal room service is available.
There is also a heated pool and spa, the Rocks Bar and a function center.
All this is topped off with the friendly staff and a delicious breakfast spread.
And to get around New Plymouth there are push bikes at the front door!
M.A lovely hotel in the middle of the city with an upbeat vibe. Loved the furnitures, fixtures, and the hanged paintings on the wall. It gives an inviting feeling of warmth and bliss. The pool was average size with jacuzzi. Best for business travellers or for leisure trips.
T.Staff were nice and the bed was very comfortable. Room needed updating. Shower hose was dirty, spa jets dirty, tv was AV and looked like a 1980s video player. But got the room cheap so who cares

M.The room was great as were the facilities. It's a small thing, but it's great that the TVs are fully enabled for internet connectivity so that all the usual online streaming services can be used in the evening when you're winding down after exploring Taranaki during the day.
As a Tesla owner, the Tesla EV chargers were much appreciated and it's good to see a "generic" EV charger for non-Tesla EVs as well. Will definitely be staying again next time we're in the area again.
s.Purchased a birthday cake from the Devon for my husbands birthday. It was absolutely delicious ! Price is reasonable and they did a marvellous job. Thanks a bundle to the chef and the entire team. Will be sure to get the next one from you again. Great customer service too 😃

D.We had a big group booking which was managed well. There were a few extra people turn up on the night, that weren't included in the original booking, but The Devon managed to add an extra table and we all had a great evening. Smorgasbord had great variety. he chinese pork was a tad too dry and the shrimp or prawn were over cooked but other than that, the food was good.

We had a few people in our group with specific dietary needs, and we greatly appreciated the head chef personally making sure that everything was in order.

A.Had a lovely stay here. Our room was great with it's nice bed, air-con and free WiFi. My partner also enjoyed the spa bath.
Bathroom had pretty much everything needed if you had forgotten anything, such as shaving kit, toothbrush and even a sowing kit.
Also has a nice buffet restaurant and bar.
E.Great facilities and room. Outdoor pool. Wi-Fi is password protected for guests only. They have free parking but it becomes a free-for-all in the evenings because their restaurant is open to the public.
So if you're going out for dinner, then you'll probably have to park your vehicle on the street until you find an available park on premesis again. That was our only hang up with the place.

P.Excellent service and facilities. The spa bath in our room wasn't working and a light blew. All fixed while we were out but offered to fix both immediately. Only gripe was no blackout or noise suppressing curtains in rooms facing the main street. Restaurant is excellent and very well patronised. Currently $45 for "and all you can eat" dinner for adult. $25 for cooked breakfast.

The bar area is nice and the outdoor courtyards make great places to go on a hot day. The bronze casting in the middle of the Hotel is increadable.
The restaurant smorgasbord in the evening is great value at $34 . Great options.
Breakfast is also well appointed.
I can highly reccomend a night at this place. You won't be disappointed.
A.This is the 2nd time I'm staying at The Devon Hotel , this time for work and it was just as awesome as the 1st time with the family. Clean, comfortable, great service and a real pleasure to stay . From the moment you walked in, you feel special with the ladies at reception welcome smiles. The Marbles buffet restaurant in house is a real treat with the food and dessert they offer. High light was the spa today. 6° outside at 8pm, and sitting in the spa 🙂. Thank you 'The Devon Hotel ' for the memorable stay. Again ! ❤

S.Clean and tidy, with friendly staff but the room was so small we had to walk side ways to get past the bed and miss banging TV mounted to wall to get to the bathroom. Also noise from other rooms and plumbing etc.. Was very loud at night, not voices but vibrations and bangs etc.. Very easily conducted through walls.. And a water pipe valve that would go off every 10mins during the night..

N.We were a bit disappointed with the food this year. We have been coming for Christmas Dinner for many years. We were put in a little side room even though we had booked in October, the waiter did move us when I commented.

Honestly though, thats my only complaint - it's a nice hotel.

B.Nice place but packed to the max and the smorgasbord was difficult to get to because of a lot of people. Price wise is not really worth it, we paid $120 per head. I think it's better to go to a restaurant and buy one really good meal. Prawns were very watery tasting so I assume they were frozen imports. If I had a choice again I would actually go somewhere else. But a lot of older retired people would most likely find this place good. If you have traveled world wide a lot you may find this isn't good value for money and very average food compared to other countries. A common problem with New Zealand.
A.The Hobson room as an event venue is very nice. The snacks were nicely catered and the drink choice was good with nice wines available. The room was large and well lit. Lovely staff and comfortable seating.
