Lovely setting and layout, food pretty dang good. Unfortunately the service let it down big time. It was semi busy but certainly not heaving for a summer lunch venue. All our meals came out sporadically and then they gave my 80 year old mothers chicken wings to someone else, so she ended up taking away after about 1 hour. Stagfvwere very apologetic and polite but it just felt disorganized and I'd hate to see it if really busy. Hope you guys can sort it as the chicken wings were delish!

The place came highly recommended and the ambience was amazing but we were a little disappointed with the burgers (fried chicken and fish burgers) we'd ordered. The taste was good, but the meat patty was so small, half my burger was just bun and coleslaw. I expected a better burger for $25!

Stopped there recently and had the best kumara chips I've ever tasted. They also had Allan Scott Sauvignon on tap and it was beautiful. Very friendly staff and a nice relaxing place to spend time.

Passed by after spending the day in Goat Island and another local beach. Look: The aesthetic was really good they had a gentle modern rustic looking vibe which really worked. Ample spaces to sit including bean bags!! My friend and I were very impressed and were saying it would be the perfect place to go for a birthday meal or other occasion. Food: Wasn't too hungry, so I ordered a Macaroni n Cheese starter. My word it was generous. The cheese was perfectly infused with enough jalapenos and bits of bacon to make it not overwhelming but certainly a unique recipe. I have no idea what cheese it was but boy, it was good and stringy! Staff: The staff were super nice and friendly. We were greeted by hellos and they were happy to answer any questions and not rush us to order. There were always staff around to take your plate or top up your water jug. Conclusion: - Amazing vibe - Yummy food - Nice staff

Ok this is a hard one as I don't normally complain, I don't want to be mean but the food was average. We came for breakfast service was great lovely people, but the coffee was warm even my long black 🤔 We all ordered different I had the Beef Check Eggs Benedict, the eggs were hard poached (everyone's were hard) the beef checks tender but no flavour apart from the little red wine you could taste... Felt like they just whacked them in a pot with water and red wine hoping for the best.... I'll come back to try again as it may have been an off day 🤞

I enjoy the Sawmill Cafe - nice outdoor area, good play space for kids, diverse range of beer and drinks, tasty food. They also have regular music gigs which are always a lot of fun. The thing which is a major detractor is there’s no table service, you need to wait in line at the counter to order food/drinks, and the wait for food from the kitchen can be torturous and long. If you’re not in any rush and don’t mind waiting for food or lining up to place an order, Sawmill Cafe is a nice place for breakfast, lunch and drinks.

Always such a cool vibe at this place and the staff are welcoming, attentive, friendly and efficient. The food is delicious and the drinks are too! Indoor and outdoor seating available. If you're there after dark in the cold you get the pleasure of an outdoor fire. The playground is awesome featuring a boat and a Mayfair pole (how often do you see that anymore!) as well as the usual treats. Great venue for gigs too.

Awesome place to visit... good food and choice of drinks.. but best thing is there is always live gigs happening. From Wednesday to Sunday.... not sure if this is all year around but most definitely during summer.. music types varies from day to day... would recommend to stop in one evening if your passing through..

5 STARS aren’t enough! This place is sooooo good we came back twice at the start of our roadie from AKL and on our way back! Customer service both times by different staff members was above & beyond! Sweet, genuine & super, super friendly! The set up & layout is BEAUTIFUL 😍 Such a great way to use the space! THE FOOD, EASY 10/10! Our breakfast & dinner dishes were served so fast & everything tasted amazing! Cooked to perfection! 😋 On our breakfast visit, the lovely staff members helped kids on the sea saw & played alongside them in the middle of serving everyone. On our dinner visit, big speakers were blasting music as we arrived, everyone of all different ages were scattered around enjoying & vibing while having dinner & drinks 😍 Honestly, this is a rare sight! Made this place feel so warm & welcoming. Definitely going to trip 2 hours just for breakfast, lunch & dinner! 😅

The pizza here is great! They are constantly changing up the pizza menu options as well, so always something new to try. Occasionally they have live music, which adds to the already awesome atmosphere of the place. There is outdoor seating which is great for nice weather. Great place to spend an evening having beers with friends.

Unbeknown to me, my bridesmaids had planned to kick off my hens party at the Leigh Sawmill and it couldn't have been more perfect! Ariana and the team were SO accommodating to the challenges I had to achieve and we had THE best time EVER. Love the Leigh Sawmill! The staff made us feel so welcome to set up the toddlers and try and grab a break ourselves. It is a magic spot. Breakfast was yum, coffee was great and the homemade lemonade really hit the spot on such a hot day 😊👍

Really cool vibe. Nice staff. Decent food menu although they were out of a few things. The place was really cool and had lots of the old sawmill features on show, but the food was way overpriced for what it was. It's one of the only places around for a few kms so it's here or nowhere for a while, and I guess that's influenced the prices they charge. Next time I'd plan better and take a lunch with me but if you don't have anything then this place is pretty good, just prepare to be gouged.

Wonderful venue for music - we been there twice for that. We saw "My Baby" at the weekend at Sawmill Cafe. Loved the band and everything about the place, including (for me) a great smoking area outside. Excellent fishburger. Will be with you again - for sure.

Good, but not worth driving more than 20 minutes for. The pizzas are thin crust which is nice, but no better than a pizza you'd get at most places. Also while it is called the Sawmill Cafe, do NOT confuse this with Sawmill Brewery beer, they do not serve this here.

such a lovely big place and a new owner and Italian chef since we were there a year ago. lovely in the summer with a large court yard and tables around in a semi circle and large bean chairs in the centre. a great family place and dogs are allowed in the courtyard but must be on a lead. children's play area too.

Quite a cool place. Much bigger inside than we expected. Staff were great. Not an extensive menu for lunch and luckily since we arrived before 12 midday we also had the option of the breakfast menu. We had the breakfast grill which was awesome, a special of the day duck burger with chips which was also excellent and the kids had mini grills of their own. All the food was good. Quite expensive though which would be my only criticism and the large coffees were tiny.

Love the place. Been there a few times now, always great food, good smiling service, but I do suggest booking or calling ahead especially on public holidays or long weekends as being that good has it's disadvantages, the place is buzzing. But still happy to accommodate if you don't mind waiting a bit. Kids have a small playground at the back, an actual boat to play on. Heaps of parking. Would recommend for sure.

Beautiful venue with great food. Very rustic atmosphere and decor. Indoor/outdoor seating for any season. Some outdoor seating looking onto or in the garden, with a kids playground out the back too. There is an old boat (a real life one, decommissioned) which the kids love playing pretend in, homemade see-saw and swings. Such a beautiful spot. They also offer accommodation above the cafe, and often have live music shows at night. Medium price range.

Delicious huge pizzas that was enough to make five of us ladies full with just two. The tandoori was my favourite but the other Mediterranean one was fine, just wasn't as nice. The staff were really friendly and the space itself is decorated appropriately with lots of tables suitable for small and large groups. There's also an outside seating area perfect for sunny weather. I didn't take any photos of the place or food cause I was too busy feeding my face. Highly recommended.

Has to be a must do when in the Leigh/Matakana/Omaha area. As a lunch spot it has an excellent outdoor seating area and a very agreeable menu. Great spot to take the kids too as there is a play area and everything. At night, I would recommend going to gigs hosted there. The outdoor area usually has a large brazier burning and the vibes are always friendly. 😁

My first time there. My wife said that in her prior visits, the menu was completely different. More Cafe and restaurant, and less pizzeria. But, I do home made pizzas that have had rave reviews. Their pizza was very good. And amazingly fast.

The setting is the old Leigh saw mill and is very comfortable with a rustic feeling. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, the service excellent. Locally brewed beer is available and very tasty. Lovely surroundings of Leigh, goat island beach/ocean reserve, near Matakana. Great place for a good experience.

This is a great place to play a gig as a band or to see live music - it has everything you need for a nice musical experience. Bonus awesome food, lovely people and great atmosphere. Make a weekend of it - stay overnight on location!

What a gem in Mangawhai! This little cafe has an outdoor and indoor space. We came back here twice on the same day - once for breakfast then again for a mid-afternoon drink and it was perfect both times. They have a tasty selection of thin crust pizza, options for kids and fresh lemonades. Our waitress had just started this week and she was especially memorable for the care and attention she paid. We had two toddlers in our group that could be a handful at times and but only did she go above and beyond, so did the other wait staff she pulled into the task. There's a small playground in the back of the cafe perfect for young kids.

It’s our first time to visit this place. I love the vibes. Good place to go before heading to goat island. The staff was friendly and doing their job pretty well. However, the food was served late, we ordered a small coffee and fish and chips to start with but it took 30 mins for us to wait. My bf loved the fish and chips with salad on the side. One main reason that I dont want to come back to this place is because my bf paid 33$ for those food and I couldnt seem to comprehend why its that expensive for a coffee and fish and chips. My bf didn’t care when he paid for it but I was as its a rip off.

We enjoyed our meal, and the service was good. I myself ordered the fungi Pizza, which had truffle oil on it. For my taste I did not enjoy the truffle oil and felt really there was no need for it, I would rather have had a slightly stronger tomato pizza sauce on the base with the mozzarella and Parma Ham instead of Truffle oil and parmesan cheese. I have had I Pizza in an Italian restaurant in Wellington with just the tomato, cheese, mushroom and the Parma ham or the likes of that and it is simply devine. In daying that would definately come back but would order something different.

Went here snack and beers after a day at goat Island. We had four platers of snacks all amazing. If you like pork they do a crackling bowl. We also had breads with eel pâtè and olive oil. We also had a tasting tray of beer really hard not to love all of them. The outdoor seating is really comfortable with a couch bench on one wall. Great place to meet up with a crowd of people. I recommend the doctor if you like a dark beers with chocolate flavour. I would recommend going here for a Sunday drink if your coming back from up north or swing past when your going to warkworth.

Not to be confused with the Sawmill Brewery on Leigh Rd (make sure you confirm with friends if traveling in separate cars!). They didn't have any Sawmill beers on tap, but had other interesting beers to try. The food menu has a fair range of pizzas and some other mains. All the food was good, one pizza can feed two people if you're not super hungry. The atmosphere outside during the day is really relaxing with sunny and shady options. There is also a playground/garden area for children.

It's a cute little place to have some food at, and both the beers and the pizzas were quite delicious, however, the guy that brought us beers was plain rude. The ambiance was very nice, though, and we enjoyed it anyway.

I stopped for a take away coffee but after walking in I just had to stay and drink my coffee, which then lead to an orange juice and then to a fish taco haha. The coffee was good, it wasn't weak tasting or just warm milk with a dash of coffee. The orange juice I don't think was freshly squeezed, probably just carton juice. The fish taco was delish, I had a side of sweet potato chips too which were also delish. Probably should hold off on the salt though, otherwise really nice. Looks like quite the venue for live music. Staff were nice and friendly. I lost 4.5 hours here. I ended up getting my laptop from my campervan and planning the next stage of my journey. Wifi available, just ask the staff. Their homemade fudge is pretty darn good too at $6. Chocolate, vanilla and coffee.

Once a saw mail, now a cafe - Sawmill Cafe is about an hour away from Auckland CBD towards the north. We stopped there for coffee and did not get to spend much time. My cousin, who is a local said that the Cafe is a good place to visit during weekends as they play good music and serve good food. And if you're too drunk to drive back they even have cottages in which you can crash
