Nice place, nice atmosphere reasonable priced!! I've been a few times and the food and drinks are always great. Recently i ordered the chicken schnitzel with smashed potatoes and green beans and it was delicious. My friends ordered the Csesar Salad with chicken and that too was great. The place was packed and service time was reasonable. Highly recommended.

Great food, amazing cocktails and friendly service Cons... The flies!! Man we were trying to keep flies off our meal like we were eating in a bush! Definately needs some sort of fly deterent here. The only other negative would be out starter came out still frozen in the middle but they replaced and did not charge us so honest mistake.

We had the lamb shank with mash as well as the chicken schnitzel burger (with lettuce wrap instead of the bun) and fries. I also had a caramilk hard shake which didn't seem particularly alcoholic. Food was excellent, tender and well presented. Probably my biggest criticism was that the meal was a bit on the expensive side. In summary, loved the food as well as the service and surroundings. However a good night out could have been a great night out if they reigned in the price a bit.

I visited The Flying Moa on a Saturday afternoon for lunch with friends. I did not realise there was a boxing match being shown there which meant it was bustling! We ordered lunch, I ordered a lovely scotch filled steak. Which tasted amazing and to my surprise did not take long for them to take our order and have the food on our table. Due to the large amounts of people there I thought I was going to be slow. So I do recommend eating there lovely pub food, great price and great atmosphere just for a nice chilled drink. Would highly recommend. Look forward to seeing it open again

Hi all. My family and I visited the Flying Moa pub several weeks ago. I had a family member up from the south island and she actually picked this place out, just from the online menu, and relative proximity. When we arrived we were greeted by two great staff members, asked straight away for our drinks order. They arrived promptly, and food orders were taken. The food was exceptional and more than fair in terms of size, more importantly the quality was fantastic. I would recommend this place easily for a meal and a cold one. I would also like to give a shout out to the staff, as I have visited several times since and they are top drawer people. 😇

friendly staff, smilling all the time. we ordered full ribs and beef cheek for lunch, both take times, the staff was taking care of our worries. Speaking of food, beef cheek and mash tastes great, so tender and juicy. 8 out of 10 while the ribs is a bit over the time. it's dried outside, but still tender inside, I would give 5 out of 10.

Came in around 1100 but the kitchen didn't open until 1130. We were able to look through the menu and order both food and drinks when we were ready. As expected, it wasn't busy so we were able to order when we were ready. We were informed that the meals wouldn't be prepared until the kitchen was ready. I was really disappointed with the hot white chocolate and coconut drink. The idea was interesting with a piece of chocolate on a stick which you can pour hot milk into. The white chocolate was quite bland and the coconut was desiccated so you didn't get much coconut flavour and the coconut bits weren't very nice to drink. The buffalo cauliflower was alright, nice crispiness but I just found the hot sauce to be on the sour side. The zoodle salad was very nice. Quite good flavours and nice bits of kumara and nuts to give more flavours and textures. Quite a nice and large pub in the area. Food is quite nice and the service was also quite good.

Awesome venue. We had the steak on the volcanic stone and it was one of the best eating experiences I've had in a while. The bar staff were very friendly and extremely helpful even on a busy night. Really looking forward to going back, maybe for some chicken wings. Seriously though.. Try the steak!!

It's OK to be fair just another bar, but it's close to where I live so we go there sometimes. When we went the last time there was hardly anything available on the menu but the annoying part was that they didn't tell us until we tried to order!! Don't let me put you off because it is reasonably pleasant.

Now, I don't reallyyy "love it", but there's nothing that left me feeling like I didn't get what I expected to. It's a basic beer bar, taps won't really change that much to anything on micro craft level, and prices for food and drinks can get quite high. The place is clean though and they've got a pool table plus I've heard they have trivia nights. Great for groups, so call ahead if you want to reserve a table for that. Quite expansive inside. But the open face steak burger ... Nah, a regular burger would def have been better.

Went here on a Monday night and had the soft fish tacos and sliders. The taco was terrible and tasted very floury. We couldn’t finish the second one. The sliders were fairly average-pork belly, fish and beef. We didn’t realise until after we ordered that they do food deals. Monday’s are all you can eat ribs. If we had seen this earlier we would have ordered that - everyone else did 😀 We would probably return for a drink but not for food. Staff are very friendly here

Awesome service as soon as we entered even though the staff were really busy. Food was delicious and if you order an appetiser the pork belly bites are sensational. Our mains were just as good, steak was cooked to perfection. We ordered a pina-colada and their famous Monster Moa Mary, it was absolutely delicious as well as looking fab. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Food looked like decent portions, however the poutine would've been salty enough with just the bacon. Also a group of us came at 5.45ish on the Tuesday and while we knew there was pub quiz that night, it wasn't until 7.30 and we would have been long gone by then if we were allowed to sit inside from the start. No, we didn't make a booking, but at the same time we saw a lot of empty seats inside. We were going to stay and give it a go (that was when we found out pub quiz was at 7.30) but by that time we were all knackered.

I have been here a number of times with friends and service has been great. Always such great atmosphere. I dined last night with family for the first time. Quite a large group (13). I appreciated the activity packs given for the children. My 4 year old in particular was very entertained by it. We ordered a few of the all you can eat ribs and then individual plates for everyone else. The quality of food was fine. Portion size was small. Waitress was great and quite knowledgeable on the menu. Only down fall for me would be the wait times for the ribs was terribly slow and even with our dessert it trickled in. I don’t know if that was because of our larger group or something else. But we definitely noticed it, hence my rating.

Great place to come after work for a couple cold ones. Good atmosphere with plenty of tables inside and out. In winter sometimes the heaters outside don't cover the whole table so be mindful before you sit down. The Moa platter is pretty 👍

A seriously good restaurant / sports bar where you can come and relax and enjoy great food and drinks. You can watch sport on the TV,s and play pool while enjoying yourself. The food portions are big and very good quality food is served. Lots of interaction between the staff and patrons to make your meal experience enjoyable. They have different Specials each day of the week and they are very good value for money. Inside and outside seating makes for a overall great experience. Have been there many times before and will definitely be back on the future. Place is always busy and a great atmosphere.

Went here with a large group and received excellent customer service. All the staff were great to deal with and super friendly. We all ordered food which arrived much quicker than anticipated, being such a large group. The Tonkatsu burger was the best combination of flavours I have experienced yet between two buns, highly recommended. Will be back again for sure

We visited on a weekday lunchtime and it wasn't that busy. Service was fast and friendly. I had the mini bao buns with pork belly which were absolutely delicious, and a side order of polenta chips which were crisp and crunchy, just as they should be. My friend's Boston cheeseburger and fries was average according to him. He asked for a spiced tomato juice and was given an extra tiny bottle of Tabasco on the side in case he wanted to up the heat, that was a nice touch. There was a good wine and beer selection, and I would come back again.

Not as good as it used to be. Portion sizes have shrunk and quality had dropped. The burgers used to be a decent filling meal but find that the patty barely filled the bun. High quality buns have been replaced with dry supermarket buns. On the flip side, steak was as expected, well cooked and very tasty.

I'd just finished my snickers handshake which was too hard not to drink, and like a minute later the waitress comes to take the glass and ask if we needed more drinks. The steak was pure goodness. Salad probably could've done with some dressing but I'm not really a big fan of salad with my steak anyway. They seem to do good deals here and this isn't my 1st time here but each time has always been good. Highly recommended for food.

Pub has a great layout and is west facing, so lovely afternoon sun with tables inside and out on the deck. Beer selection is great, evening including European beers, so not just Moa beer. Food was supremely average though at our Monday team lunch. The menu promises much but favours, adornments and dressings were either bland or needed more. Hopefully it's just the Monday cook.

I have been here on many occasions and my ratings have always been 5 stars, the food being restaurant standard. On this occasion it fell short. They had run out of fish (fish of the day main) and they had run out chips (yes you read right, chips). Don't get me wrong the food that we got was nice enough however it took an hour 15 mins to get to us. My scotch fillet should have been medium rare, but in reality it was rare right through. I didn't complain for the main reason I don't mind meat rare but prefer medium rare and after the wait I was hungry. I will go back, maybe this was a one off.

We haven't been here for quite a while, and were disappointed. Garlic bread was good, as always. Mains were passable, though the finish on my son's fish and chips wasn't great. Desserts, well, after waiting 25(!) minutes, the cheesecake was stodgy, the banoffee pie was meh, and the ice cream sundaes for the kids were tiny. The staff were lovely, but we had to keep going inside to get any attention after we'd placed our mains order. Not the greatest 40th dinner imaginable.

Enjoyed a good chicken burger and chips followed by a mochaccino. Fascinated by ceiling lights made up of beer handles. Relatively few light bulbs, but with beer handles arranged in rows, makes them all appear to be individual lights!

Took our staff here for last day of the year lunch (originally 18 in total) asked for 2 more to be added they accommodated but it seemed to be a hassle for them, I would've understood if they were busy but there was only us and 2 other couples. Food was average they got 2 wrong orders and one of the rib dishes was still half frozen. They did replace the dishes but for the money spent it would've been an easier decision to go somewhere else.

The BBQ pork spare ribs was awful. It was hard and dry and tough to cut into and looked like dinner from two nights before..The sauce only covered the top and when i lifted the top ribs, the next layer was dry as bones. My puppies loved them though. The bannoffe pie crust was so hard I feared I would break the plate trying to get my spoon to break a piece off. I decided not to finish it after two small bites. On a lighter note, the beer was chilled just right but no return for this customer..
