Have been a couple of times and would thoroughly recommend it for a lunch or dinner and a chance to try great craft beer. You can get tasting racks, with plenty of different taps to sample. Their pizzas are excellent and the curly fry poutine was delicious. Good seating options inside and out. Staff were really friendly and attentive.

Great selection of beers. Tried the Black Forest Stout which is low in carbonation and storee in room temperature. We were in two minds initially but it soon was a no brainer once the bartender got us to taste some. The wings pizza and nachos were pretty good too but the one thing that blew my mind away was this little beauty that I found in their vast collection. The North West Petit Luna. It's a hibiscus lime and sour ale, which has by far been the best sour beers I have ever tried. So thanks Lumsden Free House and the very warm, welcoming and friendly staff members who attended us. Good place for a drink. One of the best places in Newmarket but too loud due to broadcasting sports all the time and less variety of bar food.

We usually come here for any sort of after works drinks since there is a really nice selection of beers, ciders and whiskeys. There is plenty of seating outside as well as inside, with more seating in the back area of the restaurant. You generally head up to the counter to order, both inside and out. They did sometimes come around to take order and brought an EFTPOS terminal when they brought the beverage. The menu changed recently and they had added and readded some items including the chicken waffles. The chicken, waffles and bacon were all quite crispy and the plate had quite a few layers of them. It was then drenched with maple syrup. I really enjoyed it. We tried the cajun wings and they were ok. The flavour wasn't very strong so it was almost like normal fried wings. The honey chicken pizza and the garlic cheese bread (which was pretty much a pizza) were both also quite nice. It is a nice place to come by for drinks and food. The outdoor area is quite nice during summer too.

Good place for a meal and catch-up - great staff and the food was tasty. They don't do table service so once you know what you want order at the bar and your food/drinks will get delivered to you. We were too full for dessert but the options looked pretty delish so will have to try them next time!

Best gastropub in Newmarket. Welcoming, neighborly and real. Not trendy and 100% better for not having any weird stylistic interior or decorator created fantasy. When I noted "real" I meant it. This is a signature New Zealand style venue. Welcoming staff and friendly clientele. The beer from the kegs is part of the extensive selection on offer which changes every day. So, you might find a new treat and never be able to get the IPA again. By the way, food is often in shared plates and eaten with fingers. Interesting selection of Hoppsters, Nitro, Dark Beers, Wheats, Ciders, Sours and Ales.

Quiz night is fun, solid menu (the mac and cheese balls are a highlight, the deep fried cheesecake in filo pastry is an experience!), friendly service, plus good choice of beers. Love the book wall out the back and the very funny framed 'art' in the men's bathroom.

Great vibe, great staff, great selection of drinks. It’s a really relaxed bar and a great place to take friends for a beer and watch a game. The vegetarian burger wasn’t excellent but it was ok. The pizzas did look great! Next time we’ll have one of those. The best part was the tables on which you can draw! It’s fun for kids and for adults! Really awesome concept.

The wings were really nice. We ordered the hot and insane wings. Definitely wouldn't caution anyone trying insane. I had one bite and it took me a long time to recover. My girlfriend on the other hand was able to do them with some effort.

Good food, great service, good prices. Reason for 3 stars - ordered lemon lime bitters but it was absolutely yuck.. Think fry made it with soda/tonic water. I'm not used to soda water so found it disgusting. Updated: this time ordered Mediterranean pizza and it took way too long to arrive BUT it was tasty!still 3 stars because of late arrival.

Superb service, food portions are great. My friends had Nachos and Fish n Chips and were very satisfied. This was the second time we had been a here in 3 weeks and it didn't disappoint. Great selection of craft beers and a great crushed apple cider on tap. Was a bit cold though, outside was raining and 12 degrees and windy, the single gas heater only heated the table directly underneath it. The permanently ajar front door didn't help. Cosy and friendly and very attentive and genuinely friendly staff.

This is becoming my new favourite beer place. Very good selection of beer and lots of great food. Seems to always have good atmosphere, but partly because it is busy, so allow some extra time for ordering etc. Even better now that outside is also non-smoking

Congrats on making the outside area smoke-free which is a big plus when taking kids. The beer menu is full of NZ best craft beers and the music was enjoyable and at the right level. Great place for a couple of drinks on a sunny afternoon. Bar staff are attentive, beer range is wide ranging and well curated with lagers, sours, dark beers and all points between. For outside there arewater pistols to fight off the greedy pigeons, rugs if it's cold, live music too. Didn't have the food but menu extensive and all the food I see other folks having looked proper tasty.

Good service. The bar staff definitely know what they are talking about when it comes to beer. Asked for a pale ale in a jug and they gave me a couple of samples to see what I was most keen on. Always a good thing when dealing with the hundreds of weird name craft beers around the place. Did not order food myself, but a couple of people in the group did and looked high quality and well presented.

A great little place to catch up with friends for a quick after work drink. they do Happy hour! $6 wine until 6pm which is really good for new market as I haven't found another happy hour near here. The menu is amazing and they have plenty of seating inside and a nice seating area outside too.

Perfect venue, awesome food, and fantastic service. We went on a Saturday evening we sat outside as inside was fully booked for the all blacks match. Steve was so kind to give us some covers and warmed up a water bottle for me twice. Amazing. Will definitely go back!!

Please note the pub is very popular with people who work locally as a a Thursday or Friday after work drink place so gets quite busy. All tables can be reserved, especially for larger groups.

Amazing selection of beer! I highly recommend getting a tasting paddle so that you can try a variety. Beer knowledge is hit-or-miss among staff, but they seem quick to ask another for help. The food is lackluster, especially the vegetarian menu.

The burgers are good. We were at the electronic free room at the back, it was quieter but it was super hot.... The main area is very loud so definitely recommend the back room and given its electronics free, you will get to enjoy the time with the people you are with. It will benefit from a couple of big fans.

This was my first visit to the Lumsden. I wasn't sure what to expect. There is a fairly large outdoor dining patio area, and a reasonably sized interior. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. My philly cheese steak burger was of a good quality, and generous proportions. My daughter's hoki fish bites was extra generous! If you are looking for solid pub grub, then this is worth checking out.

This is my favorite spot located at Newmarket, at the corner of Broadway and Khyber pass. Try the steak sandwich, that's super yummy. They've got good range of craft beers and on-tap ones. The outdoor place is fantastic, usually crowded especially in the evenings and on the weekends. When I go for a swim at the Olympic pool which is just a minute walk from the Lumsden, I grab a beer after swimming which makes it a day!

Very cosy and relaxed ambience. The food menu is one of the best for a bar. You could go here just for their food if your not drinking. They have quiz night and other special occasional events happening all the time. Only trouble is that it may get overcrowded on the weekends or holidays, despite a large number of tables at the venue.

After signing a waver and the waitress bringing them out in full protective gear I was expecting them to blow my head off but they were pretty tame to be honest. Idk how I haven't rated the Lumsden yet as it's one of my top 5 favorite craftbeer spots in the city. Not only do they have some good rotating taps and a big bottle list, their staff is cool to chat with, and their food such as chicken n bacon waffles are best I've ever had. Outdoor pallet seats are really neat too.

I just love the vibrant atmosphere at this gastro tavern that has its own homemade craft brews here. oh and the outdoor seating too with the blinken birds. But they do supply guns for u to shoot em too. Water pistols that is haha.

Ok as a bar. It has a good selection of beers and burbon. The menu looks good but the actual food is pretty average; ok portions but it was poorly put together. For instance seared broccoli that was drenched in a sweet dressing and tasted like it was steamed and was devoid of the nutty crispy texture you expect with such a dish. Nachos in a flat heap with too little salsa and too much sour cream.

The Lumsden Freehouse has a wide selection of craft beers on tap, and they're always rotating on and off so the options are fresh and different (they have both current taps and upcoming beers on a big board behind the bar). Food is good hearty pub fare, a little pricey but about right for Newmarket. A comfy pub feel inside and plenty of seating outside, too.
