We had oysters with a large side portion of hot chips and aoli, along with a delicious sweet beer to complement. Awesome atmosphere, keen to come again.

The Occidental has a wonderful ambience and is such a relaxing place to visit. I love the decor giving it a warm, welcoming, been there forever feel. The staff are superb and attentive. Such a great selection of food and beverages. A must visit every time we're in town.

My son and a friend of his came here two months ago, the place, the food, the service, were Awesome!!!
My wife and I had to try it. So, we a brought a friend in all the way from Queenstown. We were speechless! The food; texture, flavours, presentation, Beautiful!!! Don't forget to try the Sea Kiwi, we loved it!
Great great service team; the Dynamic Duo! The music, our place to be; the rolling 70s, 80s, 90s.

Great food and great service is never taken lightly. Always had a great experience dining here. Love the casual atmosphere. Had the 1 Kilo Mussels, 500g Angus Rump Steak (medium), Belgian Sausages, Roast Lamb Shank, and the Chicken Vol Au Vent. All the food was exceptional. Great tasting and cooked to perfection. Left the place full and happy.

Been meaning to try this place out for ages. Wasn't till Xmas break with hangover cures needed. Unexplainable, get down to the Occie! The grilled mussels was onnnnn... misses grabbed the salt and pepper squid. Solid feed. Great fresh beer from the tap. Awesome customer service. Will be back will a few more people next time.

Fresh cooked mussels with variety of sauce:)
Good selections of beer(non-alcoholic too)& roasted lamb for a Sunday special.
Great meeting place in comfortable atmosphere.
Don't forget to bring your ID if you are willing to drink with your friends!

Very good Belgian Beer selection plus a regular selection for us boring types. Good food selection. I enjoyed a Belgian Chip Buttie. Lots of seats outside to watch the passing parade.

Not actually a big fan of seafood but I’d definitely recommend here for mussel lovers. I’ve evidenced by my wife visiting this place five times in two weeks.
Satisfied with its size, taste and atmosphere. It’s perfect to enjoy meals and drinks.
Personally, I tried a chunk of steak and it was quite nice too.
I’ve seen this place for more than 20yrs and presumably the owner has a dignity on dishes served here.
