Reviews of The Oyster Inn
M.
The food was delightful, scrumptious and enjoyable. It was so refreshing and a joy to be served really tasty, unpretentious and honest food. The faultless service was the icing on the cake for me. The small Italian guy who served us was very attentive to detail and always checked on us if we needed more drinks and if things were okay. He explained the menu to us and gave us useful suggestions on what we wanted to have that night. (He would really do well as front of the house.) The pacing or timing of the dishes served was perfect. We did not feel rushed or left waiting unattended. We grazed through the night and left the place feeling excited and satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
C.
WOW what a meal and what amazing service. 5 of us went for a birthday dinner 3 had the snapper fish with romesco and salad and 2 fish & chips it was like the fish was caught just as we walked in it was that fresh! Service impeccable and thoughtful. Couldn't fault anything we highly recommend if looking for a fantastic meal and drinks.
Well done to all the team we had a fantastic evening
A.
We've been going to the Oyster Inn for a few years now as our special treat, because it's so close to central Auckland but feels like another world. It's always been great, but last night we had one of the best meals we've had: everything was presented beautifully and tasted amazing, and serving sizes were perfect for a three course meal. It's an unpretentious place with top notch food and service, can't recommend it highly enough.
R.
Great experience for our group. Can easily make most things gluten free on request. Excellent service; fast, efficient, knowledgeable. Great fresh seafood, oysters were fresh and well prepared. The perfect blend of casual ambience and exceptional quality hospitality.

Friendly, helpful and professional staff. The Italian guy (sorry, I forgot his name) was first class. My wife and I watched him scoot across the floor as if he was on roller-skates, attending to everyone's needs, not forgetting anything by the looks of things and yet attentive to our every need and always with a smile on his face. Another waiter topped our water up continuously without being asked. The food was delicious and although there was no crayfish on the menu which is what I wanted, we still enjoyed our meal and had a fabulous evening. So glad we chose The Oyster Inn.
E.
The waiting staff were really pleasant and friendly. The food and cocktails were delicious, I loved the chocolate mousse especially, although not great value for money (for the price of a main, I'd expect sides to be included). We made a reservation a month in advance and were disappointed to be seated in a corner without any view.

One of our favourite places to eat on the island (and in New Zealand actually!). Wonderful food, service and atmosphere. Perfect any time of year. And we’ve stayed in one of their rooms too - which was a real treat (the breakfast was pretty special too 😀). Keep up the great work. We’ll be back soon!
M.
Amazing food and service. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We ordered a few small dishes and dessert as we were still full from going to the vineyards. Standout for me was the karaage chicken. Best one I've had, really recommend it. The choux buns with salted caramel is also one of my faves, the salted caramel wasn't too sweet which was good. The staff, Melanie (I think her name was) was amazing!
C.
Always love coming here and the food was outstanding as usual. Only one comment this time, we waited for over 20 minutes for our drinks order to be taken (and only upon our request) but once they remembered we were there the service was outstanding and they were very apologetic for not noticing we were dehydrating! Can't wait for our next visit. Thanks
N.
We had a wonderful experience at Oyster Inn. Every single dish we ordered was delicious and well presented. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy fresh oysters and beautifully cooked fresh fish - highly recommend ordering the whole flounder. Nice selection of wines and cocktails. We were served by friendly, attentive and knowledgeable team. A must-visit restaurant in Oneroa - thank you for the experience and see you again!
E.
We dined here on 31 Dec and 1 Jan as a family and with friends. Service was great - so accommodating to all the little ones and their (our!) needs. Made for a seamless experience. Meals and drinks were delish. We love coming to Oyster Inn when we visit the island.
K.
We had a most enjoyable evening and lunch the following day.
The food was superb, the waiters were so pleasant and helpful.
There is something special about the feel of the Oyster Inn, it made us feel relaxed and comfortable.
So looking forward to eating here again.
J.
Delicious meal, thank you so much! I had melt in the mouth lamb.Ample serving .My friend had pan fried snapper which she said was wonderfully juicy. We shared a pistachio green salad which was flavorsome and complemented the mains well.I highly recommend and looking forward to going back!
B.
At the suggestion from the owners of the Waiheke waterfront lodge we went here for diner.
What an amazing night.the entree of chicken was a delight followed by fresh fish and rump steak. Definitely no complaints.
The atmosphere was great and the service second to none.
Well done team we will be back.
C.
We first dined at the Oyster Inn a couple of years ago and the staff were so rude that we vowed never to come back. So, so happy we didn’t stick to that plan as under new ownership this restaurant (and the staff) are exceptional. By far our new favourite restaurant on the island, cannot recommend highly enough
F.
This is our perfect place and a quick getaway. It's always enchanting with very attentive staff. The kindness and attention to detail are why this is my favourite place to have a quiet birthday celebration with my husband.
We come to Oyster Inn time and time again to relax and recharge. We look forward to returning this year during the Christmas season to kick off summer.
Thank you, everyone! Thank you, Josh & Helen; you have a magical place.
J.
This is one of the best meals our family has had in a very long time. Everyone was catered for including the vegan who felt for the first time that he got to enjoy the same spectacular dining experience the rest of us had. I could recommend this place more highly. It has exquisite food and amazing service without the pretencious vibe that food of this standard should have. The oyster inn is a treasure
m.
Great service. Flavourful food. Good vibes.
We were greeted with a big smile by a nice guy with a friendly face - who was determined to give us a great seat.
We had delicious cocktails on our table a few minutes later and we knew it was going to be a good night. I had an espresso martini and it was perfect.
Then we had oyster rolls and fish tacos to start, which were flavourful and fresh. For mains we had Octopus spaghetti (special) and pork belly which packed a punch. The spaghetti would easily rival Amano’s Scampi pasta dish. 10/10. Honey roasted carrots as a side were solid.
The highlight of the night were the lovely wait staff who made it a really relaxed, friendly, welcoming and fun time. True pros at work.
If you’re a foodie who’s not sure whether to hit the vineyards, onetangi, or somewhere else - go here. They know what they’re doing and they know food. Book early and request a table on the deck. Magic.

Ladies weekend on Waiheke - last night before heading back to our real lives was celebrated at The Oyster Inn. Not even sure this review can do justice - gorgeous restaurant, fantastic staff, added to the ambience and character of the restaurant giving a lovely back drop for the food!
We had the seafood tower to share between 3 accompanied by a couple of expertly made cocktails.
Soooo good.......unless you don't like Oysters or any other seafood this review isn't for you 😊
Thank you Oyster Inn we will be back to try the rest of the menu - maybe we will eventually get to dessert.
M.
We made what has become an annual trip to Waiheke for my wife's birthday. It was a great afternoon which started with a very pleasant crossing on the ferry, followed by a walk to Cable bay vineyard for a glass of wine in the sun and on yo a bar for a cocktail before finishing at Oyster Inn for dinner.
I love the simple style of this place and that the menu is also simple and focused. Enough options to give a choice but based on a clear seafood theme with local Oysters as the star.
The staff are all super friendly and helpful which adds to the laid back and welcoming atmosphere. Our Italian (and I only reference this to identify him as I failed to catch his name) waiter was knowledgeable about both the food and wine menu and was able to offer guidance when asked to help create the best combination of food and beverage.
As for the food... yes the real focus of z restaurant review. Every taste was fantastic. The flavours of the ingredients celebrated and enhanced. Not too much food, but definitely enough to leave me satisfied without feeling like I had over indulged. My John Dory was super tasty, and almost managed to stop the envy for my wife's cerviche. And for dessert the choux buns were a treat, but the best part of that dish was simply the best caramel sauce I have had in this country!
Thanks to everyone for making a great day. I look forward to our next visit, but might not wait till next year!
M.
Wonderful food. Wholesome snd yummy yet not overly refined or fussy. The service was absolutely outstanding. Fun and bubbly atmosphere great to see this restaurant revived by Josh Emmet after a saddening lull in the food stakes
T.
What an amazing place! I have heard great stories about it even since the early days and finally my husband and I tried it and were very impressed! The service was spot on, the food we ordered was outstanding. Ceviche, oysters, fish, tomato cropers, wine was excellent! Highly recommend it. We sat on the terrace then moved into the bar for our final lemoncillo . The international staff and knowledge was great. Would definitely recommend it for dinner or a late drink :) Thank you, Helen and Mark
T.
Always lovely at The Oyster Inn, Josh and Helen Emmet have added their magic touch without changing the heart and soul of the restaurant, great seafood served by attentive and knowledgeable staff. Wonderful spot. TSP
J.
Excellent! The food was amazing and we had a wide variety including ceviche, karaage chicken, mac n cheese, fish of the day and scotch fillet (and the most amazing choux buns.) Service was excellent with great cocktail and drink options. Overall, highly recommend. Can't wait to come back soon.
N.
Fabulous food and service. Staff were friendly and very accommodating in being able to seat us when we arrived much earlier than our booking. A lovely relaxed atmosphere and a great view.
A.
This place was absolutely incredible, my family and I have just finished eating, and we couldn't recommend it more. The food quality and presentation were perfect and the service was outstanding. Thank you so much for making our night on Waiheke so memorable!
S.
Love the Oyster Inn! We eat here regularly and the food, atmosphere and service are consistently excellent. We always have our kids with us and they’re well catered for and made very welcome too, which gets a big tick from me!
A.
We did the Seafood Tower and it was delicious and filled two bellies well. Dessert was also amazing. Great vibe and atmosphere for dinner on. Waiheke.
D.
We dine at the Oyster Inn every time we go to Waiheke and it never fails to delight! This weekend, we went twice! Awesome food, flavours, ambience, drinks, views and service. Always fantastic.
금.
Good location. Over price and small portion. Taste was normal. If you expected famous chef magic, dont expect too much. Service was amazing.
D.
Amazing service, mind blowing food. This place is so on point. Out party of five all spent the evening talking about how great the experience was.
Could not find fault anywhere.
Thank you so much for a perfect end to our boxing day.
c.
My friend and I were lucky to be greeted by Josh Emmet at the door of Oyster Inn last night. We are over from Auckland for a long weekend. As always.. everything was amazing! The service, attention to detail, staffs knowledge of the food and presentation. The way the food was cooked and how our drinks were done just added to the experience which was fab! Perfect end to a good day on Waiheke. A special mention to your vegan choc moose. The best we have ever had. Thanks for being such a real and authentic kiwi dining experiences
P.
As always Oyster Inn is amazing!! Plus got too see Josh Emmett (was our tables excitement)
After 4months lockdown and this was the first big outting: 'Waiheke Bound' to lunch here.
110% worth every penny.
As we ordered for a table of 12ppl (& ordered almost everything) our favourite the Seafood Tower just hit the spot, beautiful TeMatuku Oysters, the Cevichè next level amazing everything was fresh & beautiful.
Also the lads said the Chicken Karaage was the best they ever tried after ordering it 4x on the table haha and it was super tasty! Not too mention the Mac'nCheese with bacon yumm, the cheesy goodness just added to my lockdown pounds. Haha
Great food, great atmosphere, great service.
I always will be back here as it's one of my favourite spots!
M.
We booked for a family of 10. Service was outstanding. Fantastic food as expected, drinks were "en pointe" resulting in a great lunch and afternoon. Thank you team "Oyster Inn"
T.
Thank you for helping make this such a great anniversary. Warm greeting at the door and acknowledgement of our special booking,
As asked for seat on verandah.Comp glass of bubbles for us both, Super attentive service also, a great ( and not often seen on many restaurants ) vegetarian dish of eggplant, superb. Well done Oyster Inn. In times like these when its difficult for establishments such as this to stay open you are a shining star on the Island.
Z.
An absolute favourite on the island! The food is always super fresh and delish! The service is friendly and welcoming without being too posh. It’s a great vibe being here and a true representation of waiheke. 6 stars if I could!
B.
Good food and service with a varied but not too extensive menu.
The dinner permitted no criticisms which I can state with a great deal of contentment and satisfaction.
L.
After a brief hiatus from dining out, we decided to venture closer to home and had a fantastic lunch at Oyster Inn. Upon the recommendation of our professional, attentive and knowledgable waiter Raymond, we enjoyed a delicious trevally ceviche and had our craving of fish & chips and steak frites (served with a divine portobello mushroom sauce) more than fulfilled. We have dined at several restaurants in the city and on Waiheke since the "red-framework", but were disappointed with not having items on the menu or not enough service staff. At Oyster Inn, we felt very lucky to have wonderful service and great food and it even felt like we were on a short holiday away from the day-to-day! Thank you Team Oyster Inn!!
M.
Outstanding. The service was absolutely amazing. We were a group of 5 with 2 kids and they accommodate us a really lovely table inside. We ordered a dozen of oysters to start, and so far one of the best I ever tried, so fresh. The ceviche was such a nice entree. I can't wait to head back. You guys keep on the good work!
T.
Beautiful meal and excellent service from very friendly attentive staff.
Always enjoy coming here with family and friends for an enjoyable experience. Definitely a family favourite 🥰
K.
Excellent service the staff was great. Pity the food wasn't as good as I believe it should of been. The fish was ok and thr triple cooked chips which friends had raved about were soggy and terrible. Maybe they had new staff on the night.
Great place to go as the starters and entrees were excellent just the main course let them down.
C.
The stay along with the staff at the Oyster Inn were amazing...the staff could not to enough for us and the room was so comfortable. Our breakfasts and the dinner were incredible....thanks so much ;-)x
P.
5/5, Service, atmosphere, view & food. Will definitely return. Special mention to Raymond who served us, nothing was too difficult and we were made to feel like we were the only table in the restaurant.
S.
Really enjoyed our lunch experience. Good oysters! Awesome view, great staff! Thanks.
J.
As usual the food was delicious and the service outstanding. We had a wonderful meal in great surroundings. Thank you.
R.
Despite being 2 hours late for our booking because of some crazy weather, we were welcomed like family and shown to a comfy corner table. We then enjoyed some delicious food and wine over the next couple of hours, with attentive and excellent service. Portions were very generous, cocktails were really tasty and I just wish I had had room for dessert! We would highly recommend and plan to return. A table on the balcony in summer at sunset is something to look forward to.
G.
Nice location and atmosphere. Been there many times over the years. Don't go there for the battered oysters, worst I have had in a long time. Over cooked in oily thick batter.
J.
Fantastic service from the experienced italian waiter - just superb, lovely food, relaxed atmosphere - nice to see a busy restaurant
T.
Really good service, food and wine. Smooth attentive service , food highlights would be salmon crumpet, the oysters and the pork belly with puffed skin.
G.
Our meal here was memorable . The service was outstanding, the food was divine and it wasn't cheap but extremely good value.
The oysters are expensive at $5.50 each but the mains were beautifully presented and so many flavors! The side dishes were outstanding, as was the Black Forrest mousse. I would go back there just for the sides and desert.
L.
Beautiful food and excellent service. We're staying on the island for 5 days and have been at The Oyster Inn twice so far...
L.
If you're after a Sunday Roast on the island you can't go past The Oyster Inn. Three great options with set prices, you won't be disappointed. Had the Scotch Fillet roast option, comes with all the trimmings. Excellent, attentive service and the Espresso Martini is outstanding. Highly recommended, will be back with more people for sure. Oh and my little Cavoodle dog was welcome to sleep under our table on the patio. So appreciated thank you.
D.
Meet Josh and the service and food was great……….. .
Nice surroundings and neat build with great view.
Amazing fresh Fisk and seafood 🦞
E.
We stayed in Room 3 for one night and diner at the restaurant. Absolutely loved everything about it! Amazing welcome to our accommodation, lovely special touches in the room and gorgeous decor. Comfy bed and spacious bathroom. Dinner was fantastic - staff were very helpful with the menu and the food was delicious. The breakfast provided with our accommodation was outstanding! Such a cute dining room and top class food. Fully recommend the accommodation & the restaurant. Can't wait to visit again
s.
Lovely evening with great food and Katie looked after us extremely well.
T.
Beautiful food, beautiful service and beautiful view.
The place has changed since new owner josh has come onboard but only for the better.
P.
Nice place to relax & eat good food. The view is by the water. It's an upper level restaurant. Staff were great. Our hostess was kat- Katarina.
w.
Hugely improved quality menu and service. We had a great night
J.
Great early dinner on Saturday. Fabulously warm out on the veranda with the new heaters and blinds. Friendly staff, fantastic scampi Mac ‘n cheese and beautiful pork belly. One of our favourites in Oneroa right now! Well done Josh and staff.
L.
Long lunch with friends on Saturday. Warm & cozy by the fireplace.
Great service & food, wine & cocktails were divine. We especially loved the ceviche, chicken liver parfait, mac n cheese side dish & all our mains (lamb rump, john dory & pork belly). The choux buns for dessert were also a hit.
Highly recommend.
B.
Great view, good food, was a bit pricy so I felt a bit hungry after leaving
K.
This was my second dining experience at The Oyster Inn and both were superb. The service was fantastic - warm, friendly and totally professional. The food was excellent. We had local oysters which had been gathered from the sea that morning - super fresh and perfectly chilled. The tuna tartare was a perfect accompaniment followed by the octopus a la gallega which was absolutely delicious.
This restaurant ticks all the boxes for me.
I’ll be back!
A.
Amazing food & great service. Such a beautiful spot on the island and love visiting every year
C.
Thoroughly enjoyed our surprise birthday evening. The waiter was very attentive and thoughtful and we appreciated the separate menu for a guest with food allergies.
A kind touch was assisting guests to the ferry. I look forward to returning.
J.
Incredible service! Delicious food. Will be going back. Love all of Josh Emett’s restaurants!
S.
Thanks for a beautiful dinner! The flavours in the range of dishes we had was fabulous! We enjoyed a wide range of dishes across the group and they were all very enjoyable. The a yellowfin tuna tartare was a standout… and ohh the cocktails were outstanding!
D.
Great view to Oneroa beach from the balcony, great food and great service. Prices were normal for the quality of the food.
O.
Beautiful food, great service and buzzing yet relaxed environment. Highly recommend.
R.
The Oyster Inn is outstanding, we had to cut short our stay due to lockdown. The staff made sure that we had a breakfast by providing a continental breakfast instead of a cooked meal. They also gave us a "wine tour" of the waiheke wines on their menu as we had to cancel our tour on island. Such a special place. Thankyou. X
H.
Excellent lunch after the Sculpture Walk and thanks to TOI for reminding us the walk was on
k.
Incredible service, nothing was a problem. Thank you so much for your help in making a friends birthday special x
C.
A charming old hotel with just three quiet beautifully presented guest rooms, conveniently located right in Oneroa village. Josh and his staff are amazing, great service, made us feel very welcome. And the food is fabulous! A very enjoyable stay!
A.
Everything was amazing - service, food, view, drinks, location - we will be back for sure!
R.
My wife and I visited the Oyster Inn on Sunday.
We shared three small plates, Salmon Crudo an exquisite dish, Tuna Tartare and a Smoked Kawhai pate both were wonderful tasting dishes. All meals were exquisitely presented. Staff were attentive and friendly. We will be returning.
P.
The service and meal definitely met our expectations - Our waiter was very attentive and patient as our ages ranged from 20 - 80 years old. A wonderful evening for my Mums 80th birthday - thank you
M.
Best food I've had in Waiheke, outstanding service, will be back
J.
Beautiful food, great view and excellent service.
Took the kids and they had stuff for the kids to do and a great kids menu.
We had the Porchetta roast and it was delicious, and the desserts topped it off perfectly.
Y.
We were quite excited to try the oyster inn given its great reviews but were a bit disappointed with what we got.
First off, service is amazing and our waiter was very professional, attentive and competent. The venue is also lovely with a great view and ambience.
We ordered snapper ceviche, lamb rump and truffle parmesan shoestring fries. There were a few slices of snapper I had which did not taste fresh and were quite "fishy". The Lamb rump was underwhelming bit dry and just average, which is disappointing for $38. Then there were the chips which were extremely salty and we had to gulp down quite a few cups of water to go through this.
Didn't complain on the spot as the food wasn't inedible and did taste good but for the price it was not worth it.
M.
Great (long)lunch to celebrate a 76th birthday which included Mila our lovely waitress and two other staff singing happy birthday and a cake! Food was excellent the mussels steamed in Brussel sprout shells was a tasty surprise as was everything else. Service was quick and friendly. View from the balcony added another dimension. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Memorable, thank you.
C.
Had the pleasure of a long lunch today with a friend, the oysters were next level good! Smoked kahawai mousse everything I was expecting, lamb rump was very good although the crumbed anchovy took me by surprise (probably should have read the menu better) but worked great with the dish, profiteroles recommended but a mate who was also dining there today and the cheese board with pickles and relish finished the lunch perfectly. Heat service from attentive and friendly staff, cheers will be back.
R.
The Oyster Inn came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The service was warm and helpful, the food and beverages were delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. I would recommend to others, might pay to book (we did) as is very popular!
T.
We came to this restaurant to try the famous chefs food. We left thinking we had received the next famous guy's service. Louis(or lewis) made us feel like we were meant to be at this eatery. When he announced he had missed his ferry home, 5 tables stood and clapped(although sorry for him) everybody was stoked because the level of service he had created would remain. A great dining experience all-round.
C.
Food was outstanding
Italian waiter was attentive to all details
It’s a definitely go back again
B.
Good food (steak frites mmm) but quite pricy. The main restaurant can be very noisy. The Pearl Room next door is much better, especially if you can score a table by the window.
M.
We ate at The Oyster last night, so I’ll start with the positives.
The food is fantastic, and we had a good selection of different dishes, all of which were very nice.
The place has recently been taken over by new ownership, and I think with some time it’ll be excellent all round.
The difficulty we experienced was that for a Tuesday night they had more customers than they could reasonably handle with the number of staff.
We had to wait a long time to place our order, receive our food, and drinks in particular.
The staff, and owners were very apologetic, but we would recommend that they simply like the number of people they bring in to the restaurant in these situations. They ultimately expedited our order, and the last drinks we ordered arrived very quickly. This was in part because we were probably one of the most difficult / sarcastic tables they’ll experience in a while.
In summary, I would absolutely recommend that you eat here, but just manage your expectations if the place looks busy, and they look short of people.
I’m sure things will improve as the ownership and management team get to grips with the cadence of the restaurant. Until then, just relax, take a deep breath, order your next drink early, and enjoy the wonderful food.
C.
Our room was very clean and fresh, with a loverly private outlook. The food and service was surperb, will definitely recommend to friends and family. Front line staff were very accommodating, thank you all for a most enjoyable, and delicious stay.
R.
We had our wedding anniversary dinner and the team at The Oyster Inn went all out to make the evening special. Food and drinks were amazing and the staff was friendly and gave us the best service. Will definitely be back soon.
J.
Food & atmosphere was excellent, Melody served us and was exceptional
L.
Oysters are amazing! Great staff that make you feel welcome and special. We had roast cauli, fish of the day, roast lamb and pork loin, all delish, with za’atar carrots
T.
This meal was immense. Perfect food, perfect service. Was too hungry to take a photo. Highly recommend the roast cauliflower. Oh and wheelchair friendly. They've thought if everything!!
A.
Excellent service! Beautiful food. Oysters were delicious, tuna, steak, quality food and good presentation. Views to the beach. Highly recommended!
C.
Excellent food and service, under new ownership. Recommend booking a table as very popular. Lucky us got a table outside overlooking the incredible view. Thanks Oyster Inn for a great evening.
G.
Reading reviews here will already be an interesting mix because it's both a B&B as well as a restaurant plus private dining rooms. For us, it was the private dining room for a wedding rehearsal dinner which was secluded and on the other side of the stairs from the main dining area. Service was pretty attentive in providing drinks and the food was well presented. The lamb may have been a bit tough and chewy though. The place itself was very quaint and had an classic beauty to it, not to mention the bay view. However, I feel like the only reason I can't give it a 5 is because I don't think I'd come back to dine still outside of if it were for a family or friends event for the price and food enjoyment, despite it still looking great.
J.
Great food and service from Jaime made it a delightful evening.
h.
Went there for a family dinner and quite excited to try the new menu with new Chef running this famous restaurant in Waiheke (I'm a local). To start with the positive side of it, the service was great, super friendly and profesional, well done team. What we had in our plate was a bit disapointing. The steak frites was not as tender as we expected it to be. I had octopus that were good though a bit too much oily. The chorizo madeleine was short of chorizo I must say. So all together, food was ok but not as good as expected...The dinner room was quite noisy unfortunately, nothing we can do about it, but was not helping to relax and enjoy the moment...
J.
Absolutely fantastic food, wine, and views - one of our favourite restaurants on Waiheke. Try the seafood tower! It really is phenomenal.
D.
Great food! Great service! Will definitely return!
M.
Great service, decor and food. Guest rooms are very comfortable.Brilliant breakfasts!
J.
My chorizo starter turned out to br a very strange combination in what appeared to be a muffin like mixture with a hint of chorizo in it. I found it unusual & didn't enjoy it. Also my John Dory ended up being very expensive. For $38 all I got was the pan fried fish with what tasted like a basic hollandaise. It took 2 more sides to get fries & a salad to turn it into a meal. Total cost for just one main = $58. My wife chose the vegetarian option of cauliflower with couscous. She said it lacked flavour & ate very little of it. Overall we were underwhelmed.
A.
We randomly stopped for lunch here because my wife wanted oysters. This place ended up being a standout dining experience. The service in particular was exceptional, especially for a casual eatery. I typically dislike “small talk” with waiters, but our server (senior gentlemen with arm tats) was super nice and had lots of great recommendations for the rest of outer trip. The seafood was very fresh and the house lemonade was wonderful.
A.
Nice food and drinks. Friendly atmosphere and staff
M.
Great food. Oysters were fabulous and the duck cassoulet was the perfect winter dish. Service was friendly but slow. However, they offered us free desserts to compensate for the slow service without us saying anything. Buzzy atmosphere.
D.
We had a corporate lunch for 42. From beginning to end we were looked after impeccably by Ricci, events manager extreme! Unbelievably efficient, so the day was faultless. From the welcome cocktails, to Josh Emett himself giving us his personalised shucking oyster experience, to eating the oysters which were sublime followed by the rest of the outstanding menu which followed on throughout seamlessly. Staff were superb. Ricci even looked after our entertainment, ensuring he had a 'green room' and was fed and watered!! Absolutely sensational experience with only 10 out of 10 reports from our guests. 1000 thank u's and all the very best to Josh and Helen with their business.
S.
Always a pleasure to return to this great place.
Seafood steak .👍 apple rhubarb crumble the nest! Lovely staff. Great waiters.Chief consistent standard brings me back with quests. Friends...
E.
The Oyster Inn really is the most beautiful place to stay on Waiheke.
It has a lovely laid back feel with the most friendly, welcoming staff.
The room was immaculate, beautiful bed linen, robes and towels with fabulous toiletries. Light, bright and airy, just beautiful.
We went for a weekend anniversary 'staycation' but unfortunately I came down with vertigo on our first afternoon.
The staff could not have been lovelier or more helpful and it was so greatly appreciated.
I felt extremely lucky to be in such beautiful surroundings and in without doubt the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in in any hotel anywhere in the world. It reminded me of being in Havana, simply stunning.
We were obviously devastated not to get to have our much anticipated anniversary dinner in the restaurant but the restaurant team were amazing and they sent up dinner to our room on Saturday night so we got to taste a little of Josh Emett's fabulous food and it did not disappoint - wow!
We will rebook and have the weekend we planned with our anniversary dinner on the veranda but this time with bubbles and cocktails!
Huge thanks for taking such great care of us - we have a new favourite destination 💞
B.
We were here a year ago.. Pretty average, now, with the new owner, what a turn around. Still has some of the old menu , the classic oysters they have always done, but the rest didn't feel like an afterthought... Really really good.
E.
Oysters were so good, food was great. Service from Waiter was good except for the guy with the dreads, was rude as he answered the phone before taking us to our table and asked us if we wanted sparkling or tap water which he never bought us. Otherwise would've been 5 stars.
C.
Great food, fantastic service!
We chose Oyster Inn to celebrate our anniversary because friends we know go there all there often and say it’s fantastic, they are right! We were greeted with a celebratory glass of bubbles each such a nice touch). We had a table at the front of the balcony overlooking beautiful Oneroa - totally recommend that you request this if you book early enough.
Our food was delicious, we both loved the lamb with a kumara frittata. All of the staff were really friendly and provided excellent service. We’ll definitely go back.
a.
We had a very good meal at your place yesterday again and the service was excellent. It's nice that we live in Oneroa and therefore have the opportunity to visit you more often. André & Erica
P.
The hotel was very nice and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant, our breads and olive oil never arrived and the lamb dinner was not a good cut. We mentioned this to the waiter who talked to the chef and we got a dessert free. So well handled. Overall we enjoyed The Oyster Inn and will go back. Very good breakfast.
D.
Really nice atmosphere and location. We were seated on the verandah with great views out over the ocean. Delicious food (bit on the pricey side). The whole flounder and the scampi pasta recommended. The island mojito with pineapple was yum and the kids had a big pitcher of house made lemonade.
C.
Went on an annoyingly windy day so had a breeze coming from under the covers on a table outside. Food lived up to the price and our server was nice. Ran out of space for plates drinks etc on our table with 4 of us.
L.
Brilliant service amazing food. We had 24 in our group and every one was suitably impressed. Great customer service, highly recommend.
D.
Thoroughly recommend, Davide has his front of house team trained to perfection, you hardly know they are there. Grace was superb, friendly attentive and anticipated our every need. Best dining service I’ve experienced in several years.
Oh yes, the food - out of this world! Seafood at its best - the special entrees Tuna Sashimi & Tereaki crevice were both delicious, and the grilled octopus with crunchy roasted potato bites & chilli were lip smacking.
L.
Although we’ve been to The Oyster Inn many times, this was our first visit since Josh Emmett took over. The menu isn’t vastly different, but they’ve added a Sunday roast option, much to my husband’s delight. The beef was beautifully tender and he loved the Yorkshire puddings, which brought back memories of an OE on the UK. I opted for the scampi linguine, which was a lovely winter meal with a touch of chilli.
The service was attentive and we appreciated the local knowledge in helping us choose a Hay Paddock Syrah, also perfect for a winter’s evening.
The Oyster Inn remains a reliably good dining experience.
L.
It was one of the best meals from beginning to end. Started with the chicken, oysters then seafood. If your experience of brussel sprouts are school dinners please try and you'll never think of sprouts the same way again.. Choux buns then the earl grey gin cocktail finished an amazing dinner. Loved the atmosphere and the staff are exceptional.
K.
Amazing place. Great food and service. If you can sit on the balcony there is a great view! The cocktails are also fab, I recommend you try the upper east side!
J.
Two of us went to The Oyster Inn for Christmas Eve dinner. The staff were great. For us, the meals were ok. Great views out over Oneroa.
A.
We enjoyed Sunday lunch at The Oyster Inn. The food was cooked to perfection, the service was friendly and helpful and the view was magnificent.
K.
Very cozy atmosphere, Emily our server was polite, and very friendly. Local oysters were delicious, along with catch of the day. Perfect place to enjoy the view on the terrace...whilst sipping a glass of vino
J.
Visited The Oyster Inn with friends as our first experience to the restaurant. Great views. Nice ambience. Amaaaazing food. Good selection of cocktails. Decent service. We had an amazing night. Thanks team! Great job.
c.
Nice views, great service. Food was underwhelming
D.
The best option in the area for a nice lunch or dinner (alternative options are 372/Ki Maha/ Poderi) for the same quality/price point. Personally I am not such a fan of the menu (fewer healthier options vs its competitors) but while not the most dietetic they are tasty. Good cocktail and wine list as well. Personally I think the views here are much inferior to what you get going further east so that’s another thing to consider if you have time to travel further down island.
G.
A fantastic way to finish the day after Sculpture on the Gulf 😎😎🥂
S.
We went here as a large group with small kids and the staff were amazing! Kids meals were prioritised and high chairs available. Would come here again in a heartbeat - oh and the food was delicious too 🤤
A.
We stopped in for some olives, oysters, and glass of wine. They had selections of each from the island, and the quality was superb. Their house wine is as good as anything you can find in the vineyards. Great value! I would definitely return.
S.
My wife and I had two great nights here. Super cute place and the staff was super friendly and helpful, especially Perry. Breakfast was included for free, and it was excellent, not just a continental breakfast, but great omlettes and coffee. And they provided a ride to/from the ferry. Only downside was low shower pressure.
R.
This place had the most succulent lamb rump o have ever experienced. Can’t beat NZ lamb but the way this was prepared you could almost cut it with a fork. The deep fried oysters with wasabi aioli were divine!
D.
Wonderful, cozy restaurant with friendly staff! Yummy, delicious food & wine! What more could you want? Ann & I caught the downtown ferry from Auckland Harbour to Waiheke Island to eat at The Oyster Inn; it was highly recommended by Zana, a very cordial, young woman, Brian and I had the pleasure of sitting next to on the flight from Sydney to Auckland. The shuttle was convenient from the wharf to the restaurant; after our meal we checked the time for the next ferry out. The Oyster Inn manager called us a cab and we made it in plenty of time to catch the ferry back! Great experience! :)
K.
Great food , great staff and the best food ,drinks and ambience. If your looking for a touch of class and to treat yourself or friends. Check it out.
Rooms to stay aswell for the total experience.
o.
Really fresh oysters. Loved the non alcoholic gin cocktail and the staff were lovely as well.
L.
Amazing little place with lovely staff and atmosphere. It seems like this place books out quite quickly, so make sure you make a reservation and ask for a seat outside, so you can enjoy the view. The set menu is a big win, and so is the selection of local wines.
A.
The food is here is mouth-watering. I still think about the snapper I had here. It was locally caught, fresh and delicious. It was prepared wrapped in parchment paper which allows you to open it yourself and smell the fresh aromas that seep out as it's cut open. It encouraged me to cook my own fish at home this way and I still do. It's a healthier alternative to pan frying and the flavors are so much more appetizing.
You won't be disappointed eating at The Oyster Inn.
C.
So welcoming! The first time I came was with my dog. Never have I felt so welcomed; great seats, a water bowl and such a warm greeting. Been back a few times, and even now, the first word that comes to mind is WELCOMED. This place treats everyone like a local and it's just so nice. Enjoyable for a drink or a meal, you know they'll make you feel like a friend.
B.
Highly recommended. Would definitely go again
S.
We had dinner here and it. Was. Fantastic.
Service, ambiance, drinks, food, were all tops.
Only gripe would be the access into the building (there is a ramp but it's very very narrow).
Y.
Good food, good oysters. Our waiter guided us to order too much food without asking about our appetite nor explain their portion sizes, which we didn't appreciate, but it could just be the rogue waiter not representative of the restaurant.
K.
Lovely friendly place with a good breakfast. Very impressed with the help the manageress provided when we left something essential to our trip in a restaurant that didn't open until after we had too leave. I would be more than happy to stay there again.
T.
Limited range of mains so shared 4 entrees. Salmon, lamb, macaroni cheese and the asparagus, all top quality. Finished with Chocolate moose and peanut butter fondant, excellent! Great views and good service.
T.
It was my honey moon. My new hubby and I love their small touch on our happy honey moon. This small Inn only has 3 room, but each of them are nice and special. Location is great. Food is awesome. Inn owner offer pier pick up on the Island, which is very nice!
J.
Starstruck by seeing Josh Emmett in person😍 Lovely mushroom and truffle risotto balls❤️
D.
We were here for a family dinner while visiting Waiheke. The staff are really friendly. The sirloin and lamb rump we ordered were cooked to perfection! As we had kids with dining with us, I found it especially thoughtful for them to have colouring pencils for kids to colour in the kid's menu.
H.
Visited as a group of three for a late lunch. Not too busy as it was mid arvo but still has a lovely atmosphere. Service was friendly and prompt. Had some oysters and calamari to start, with lamb ribs, fish and chips, and gnocchi for mains. Fish and chips were described as some of the best they’ve had, the lamb dish there is my mum’s go-to every time she visits, and my gnocchi was delicious. Not a traditional gnocchi as it looks a bit like haloumi, but beautifully flavoured, the broccoli in there was roasted to perfection, and even though I’m not sold on kale it was a great addition to the dish. Ran out of room for dessert unfortunately but can’t speak to that, but would happily come again and try more of the menu.
M.
Great location, if you can get a seat on the balcony on a sunny day it is hard to beat. Menu is good and the food was fantastic. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and food and drinks arrived quickly. Highly recommended if you are on Waiheke and not at a vineyard
C.
Wow! Lovely food with super fresh seafood produce and rich in flavors. Also great location in Oneroa with a view of the beach & the ocean. Totally love it here! Probably best food we’ve eaten on Waiheke!
H.
I stayed here over New Years for three or four nights. The room we stayed in was clean, tidy and well appointed and best of all quiet which considering the number of tourists and cars was a big bonus.
The staff were brilliant well-uniformed, polite, helpful and knowledgeable. Perry the Maitre D was absolutely brilliant...courteous, helpful and knowledgeable.
The balcony was a real winner looking out over beautiful Oneroa Bay with yachts and pleasure boats galore anchored out in the bay and making for a picturesque view indeed.
The meals we had there were absolutely fantastic from the great breakfasts in the morning... Great muesli...excellent bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms etc and absolutely brilliant coffee as much as you wanted.
Tea and coffee was available as part of the tarrif all day.
The highlight was the degustation type meal but with good sized portions as opposed to the usual bite and its gone degustation meals that we had on New Years Eve...Matuku Bay oysters..as many as you wanted with a Hunter Miru Miru...bubbly...pauas wontons to die for...white gazpacho.. Swordfish garage...crispy sticky beef...harmony rolled pirkbelly with several salad components...triple cooked chips...Bombe Alaska...huge and utterly divine...
And to herald in the New,Year...Glass of bubbles...market fish gujons and shoestring fries.
I have eaten in many American restaurants and European restaurants including several in Paris, Lyon, Madrid, Cordoba, Seville, Cadiz, Cordoba, Lisbon, New York and Los Angeles as well as many in New,Zealand and Australia and I would have to say that meal would be in the top three dining experiences I have ever had.
Well done Oyster Inn...you captured my heart and stomach. As the eldest son of a long time Waiheke Island sole charge fisheries officer and being brought up on fresh seafood all my younger years, this was an exposition of divine seafood and other delights.
As a school principal of 36 years I have to award you with an A+++ on your School Report for service, staff friendliness and efficiency and for the quality of food presented to your customers...a supreme fining experience.
Z.
The main meal was served in 45 minutes ...what a wait from 1:30 - 2:15 pm ...not busy though..
The 2 dozen oysters were good..
N.
Beautiful oysters, prepared deliciously in 3 different ways.
The kingfish entree was superb also.
All complimented with wonderful service.
C.
Never fails to meet our expectations. The food, wine and service are absolutely first rate.
K.
The best oysters I have had so far! These Te Matuku oysters were so neat! Also, the new style sashimi were incredibly well balanced in taste. Desserts were great, however, slightly too much ice cream, would be better balanced otherwise. Clearly recommending this place! Kiara was awesome and super friendly :-)
g.
Food lovely but service not as good as it used to be. Such a shame that the previous owners sold it as their dedication made it a special place to go. I would have given 5 stars if the atmosphere and service was how it used to be - the food is still lovely.
T.
Super friendly staff and great food, all topped off with the most amazing view. A lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon.
V.
I was really just here for Waiheke Island's local oysters and what better place to have oysters than at the Oyster Inn.
One oyster costs $5 with minimum order of 3. Order a dozen and you pay $55. Oysters are eaten 3 ways - natural, dressed and battered. I always like my oysters natural but I decided to give battered a go. Natural obviously tasted like the ocean. The battered ones were nicely done with a tinge of wasabi for the extra kick and the oysters were not overcooked.
Amazing view too from the veranda seating...
M.
Fantastic oysters the best l have had in a long while, locally grown and reasonably priced. Terrific environment for relaxing with friends and taking in the great views (with a nice local wine)
S.
Great service, great view, beautiful food enjoyed with great friends. Beer on tap was delicious (MOA Indian pale ale was my favourite). Oyster was fresh. One particular staff member that stood out for me goes by the name of Ciara (pronounced Kiara). Ciara was particularly very attentive and also goes above and beyond and making sure we were all well looked after - I wish more restaurants have this level of service. I would highly recommend this place.
A.
Service was 10 out of 10, and the meals are a mix of great presentation and flavour (especially the truffle macaroni). I love my oysters natural, however the other options are worth a try.
S.
Fantastic food, great location, very friendly and helpful staff. Loved the exclusive wine which accompanied perfectly both probably the best oysters I've ever tasted, and some exceptionally tasty lamb.
S.
Josh Emett is a chef from New Zealand. He is the co-founder of Rata restaurant in Queenstown and restaurant chain Go-To Collection that includes Madam Woo and Hawker and Roll. Emett worked for Gordon Ramsay for over 10 years, and has been a judge on MasterChef New Zealand
Was taken out for dinner last night to by my mate and his wife And had a very pleasant night I couldn’t resist as he was paying a dozen oysters and the steak thank you Willie and Magaret much appreciated
G.
Awesome experience! Rooms were sweet and loved the host! Thank you so much!
B.
We cannot recommend this place enough! Delicious food, original dishes with fresh, local ingredients, amazing wine, very friendly staff and the view is just stunning. You can't miss out on this one!
C.
The fried oysters are ridiculously good. Caramel espresso martinis are pretty good too.
J.
Nice place on the Island, great views from the restaurant area. Nice selection of drinks, menu looks good too. Hotel side looks good, great boutique place to stay.
E.
Best oysters and seafood in New Zealand... Wine and service were spot on too 😍
D.
Loved our meals here. Wait staff very attentive and helpful. Sat out on the deck which was covered in for winter. It was still nice and warm.
P.
Great food, nice sitting out on the balcony
G.
Great food and fantastic service. We have a baby and the staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
D.
Only drank, but Italian bartender was superb. Amaretto sour was next level goodness
A.
On a sunny day while on a Waiheke Island - there is no better place to have lunch or dinner. Sitting outside on a balcony, enjoying the view, delicious oysters and local wine - this is a winning combination. A must visit for both scenery and the food.
T.
An amazing welcome - mainly due to the maitre 'd Perry - sadly I discovered he was leaving soon after our visit - lovely view from the balcony on this beautiful island. Food was excellent as was the service.
A.
When other places nearby on Waiheke are empty, Oyster Inn might well be packed to the gills. It's a cute, woodsy, island-y setting that reminds me of New England. Always a fish of the day like my 4/5 flounder and shrimp in miso chili butter. Oysters were great, a different taste altogether from coastal US oysters. Get the Man o War sauvignon blanc. Local winery, brilliant wine. Service was decent when not attempting a wine upsell.
J.
Can't comment on the overnight accommodations, but we did eat at the restaurant. In addition to stunning oceanside views from the terrace, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. Try the fish and chips!
c.
Amazing.....
Service friendly and funny. Food outstanding. An best go to place will not be disappointed. Book first..
C.
The Oyster Inn is a fabulous B&B located in the Oneroa village on Waiheke Island, just off Auckland's coast. I can't speak to the overnight accommodations, but my meal there was incredible.
To reach Oneroa, you must first take the ferry from Auckland, which leaves regularly throughout the day. From the ferry harbor, Oneroa (and the Oyster Inn) is a short walk (and an even shorter bus ride). The Inn is located in the center of the bustling Oneroa village, surrounded by quaint shops and other restaurants. The Inn stands out, thanks to its large white gables and an open veranda overlooking Oneroa and Oneroa Bay.
The twin highlights of my meal were the wine (a local sav. blanc, of course) and the friendly service. The oysters, true to form, were excellent as well. My main course, fish and chips, was good, but by no means the star of the show. The meal was made complete by the view of the bay from my seat on the balcony. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and I would highly recommend the Oyster Inn to anyone looking for a bite to eat (and a view!) on Waiheke Island.
P.
Great views in the restaurant, and the food was great - but the service was painfully slow even with the restaurant not that busy. Recommend the oysters, fish and chips, and the honey and rosemary brulee.
F.
love the space and the view, but the oysters were small for the price. was hoping for more for an establishment that specialises in oysters. lemonade was pretty good.
J.
Best oysters I've ever had. Service was second only to one other place on the island. Highly recommend.
k.
Great views, awesome food, especially the oysters. Our waitress was really nice despite two of the people on our table being really unreasonable.
D.
Delicious decent sized meals. Oysters were fresh and delicious! A little on the expensive side but the ambiance was great and staff were friendly.
E.
Pleasant enough. Oyster sliders were good. Nothing fancy. Menu was average
m.
Fabulous ambience, food and service.
R.
Oyster Inn is a marvel. A fave with Waiheke locals, Aucklanders and travellers. How do the Oyster staff do it? It's a lively venue and has a handy location. Known for its style and panache. Upmarket, certainly, but good value.
Everyone is made to feel welcome.
What did I sample? Local oysters sters, of course. Some of the freshest and tangiest. Brimming with minerals. Simply presented and all the better for their valuing of best ingredients.
Y.
Beautiful food, perfect size and friendly staff .
D.
Great! The food was superb. Over the years they have been a bit up and down but now they are terrific. The atmosphere and service keeps pace
Highly recommended
C.
Nice service, and excellent food, bit priced but is worth
Raw oysters is a must !
D.
Delicious food. Pleasant wait staff. Busy but not too busy. Probably need to book.
L.
Excellent food with New Zealand flavours and lovely service. Will not hesitate to go back and would recommend this place to anyone wanting a meal to remember.
T.
Fantastic food, impeccable service and great company, could not fault anything.
a.
Lovely oysters and cocktails looking out over the water. Standard prices for waiheke. Oysters are on the small side but are fresh and tasty.
S.
They have the best fish & chips, the best mac & cheese, the best raw oyster. Ahh thinking of the food we had there just make me starving.
S.
A stunning sea view, excellent service, a well considered wine selection and of course great food.
S.
I can't wait to go back great food and great staff
j.
Obviously a great loacation etc but for us the ever so slight variations on great ‘simple’ dishes keep us coming back
Highlights were the sashimi with yuzu and mirin , the fried squid (with a lovely pungent fish sauce ) and whipped kingfish on charred bread
I’d come here over mud-brick every day of the week
B.
Great food and friendly service. First time trying here while we visited Waiheke and it was a good night out.
L.
Amazing food, amazing view and amazing service. The place is quite popular and I can see why. Love the place and a must try when summer rolls around again because the view is awesome.
B.
Outstanding service and meals for my Daughter's 18th Birthday.
J.
Love the food. Chicken Karaage and the oysters are always winners
J.
Best retreat on Waiheke Island, if you get a chance to book one of the Oyster Inn's three rooms, jump on it. Barista coffee to your room, and exclusive use of the restaurant for breakfast for guests only, both make you feel like a VIP. The rooms are superbly designed and turned out, and honestly, worth hanging out in just because. Every stay should include plans to gorge on the Oyster Inn's spectacular menu, drink the great Waiheke wines on offer, and walk away with world class memories.
B.
Good friendly service. Tasty food and nice wine selection
A.
Great service Food was lovely arrived quickly would recommend
S.
Fresh seafood with a lovely view. The oysters were the best in NZ! Dishes were thoughtful, seasonal, and delicious.
K.
Food was great, the battered oysters are amazing. The service is great but the prices are way over the top for the food on offer. The wine pricing was ridiculous...
T.
Awesome food, great service. Had raw oysters for the first time, ever. You can say that I'm a convert. Hehe.
G.
Super nice location with very competent and friendly staff and great food. Come for Sunday sessions to enjoy live music and some drinks. Make reservations during high season!
T.
Wow what a meal. Great food and great service. Well done Oyster Inn.
K.
Was seated on verandah. Lighting was so poor we had to use our phones to read menu. Part of my order was forgotten.
G.
Great oysters and service
S.
Simply fabulous - understated elegance with a contemporary feel. Highly personalised service, beautiful colour palettes with strong attention to detail and a gorgeous setting combine to form a sophisticated aura at this boutique inn and restaurant.
The Oyster Inn highlights best of Waiheke and raises the bar for the whole island, helping to put Waiheke on the map as a top New Zealand destination for casual, high end quality of life. Beds - truly comfortable, gorgeous spacious bathrooms.
The feel here is very Montauk South - super sexy in a conservative, friendly way.
A.
awesome Sunday roast lunch. good food and good service.
R.
Amazing innovative fresh food and excellent service, highly recommend.
C.
considering this place is the "oyster Inn" I was a little disappointed with the quality of the oysters and the very slow service... If it's really an amazing dining experience that you're after I highly recommend driving a bit further afield and checking out the vineyards with outstanding customer service and delicious fine dining...
D.
Excellent food, presentation, extreemly friendly staff, highly reconmend.
T.
Second best oysters I have ever had. I have tried oysters in thousands of spots... in at least 10 different countries and these are special!

S.
Fantastic views, wine and food. The oysters, as you'd expect, where sublime. The service was outstanding too.

The rooms are in a historic building on the main street. We found it less well appointed and much higher priced than most other places we stayed in NZ.
