Spectacular 10 👌 Everything we ate was cooked with passion, craft, skills and perfection. Every bite was a melting moment. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Excellent service from the table server taking drink orders then the food orders. They didn't take your orders then dissappear, they were always floating around and checking in on us to see if we needed more drinks and to see how the meals were. My wife had the salmon main which she said was "bloody fantastic". I had the prime rib which is cut at the table and the server gives you the run down on the prep of this rib. I'm not big on eating ribs but this was fantastic. Their breakfast buffet is well worth the cost, totally recommend if you're in the area.

Came here for the Buffet Breakfast and loved it. They've got everything. Their scrambled eggs are so good! We had a group booking and we were put in our own space which was perfect. Beautiful Restaurant, friendly and helpful customer service at Hotel Reception and in the Restaurant. Great prices with the school holiday special going. Definitely would dine here again🙂

The cocktails here are not to be missed and I highly recommend the espresso martini. Our main course was delicious, everything was perfect here, most notably the melt-in-your-mouth duck. Also here is the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. A night here was truly a magical night!

Amazing food and service! My partner and I dined last night and loved every minute! The food was exceptional! We had 3 courses and they were all so so delicious. The drinks we had were really good too, as was our lovely waitress, she was super helpful with my partner’s dairy intolerance, making sure he was looked after. We will definitely be back! Went there for my wedding anniversary - from the moment my Husband and I walked through the door, we were welcomed with warm greetings. Really love the 7 day aged steak, 300g Mary's cut definitely fill the stomach! The breakfast is quite nice too with lots of choice to choose from, you can also order coffee to be made instead of using coffee machine.

We frequented the bar a few times during our stay at The Rydges, really nice setting. We decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the restaurant one evening. Was a little bit apprehensive as the menu sounds quite posh and I'm more of a Cheeseburger kind of gal. Husband ordered some oysters to start, however they were very small. We decided to go for the Two Share plate of Lamb - it did not disappoint and was the finest lamb we have ever had. We couldn't quite manage it all, but made a damn good attempt at it. Spacious restaurant with a pleasant ambience.

We expected more from this place, as the rating on here seem so good. The starters were delicious and well presented. We had beef carpaccio and seafood chowder. But we’re sorry to say that the main course was a let down! Both the lamb shank and the salmon lacked seasoning and did not have much taste. Also, the salmon was swimming in oil? We tried the Bloody Mary drinks, they’re awesome and definitely worth a shot! The service was good, but we had 4-5 different waiters serving us. Personally we prefer when it’s only 1 person serving us for the whole dinner. The restaurant is pretty big but it lacks atmosphere. The waiters white, long outfits was a small turn off for us, as it reminded us of doctors outfits and Kiehl’s sales people’s outfits.

Great steak restaurant. First time I've had Chateaubriand as a sharing steak dish. Had it cooked Medium to share, which was probably sacrilege and I should've had it Medium-Rare. Pricey but good at $115 for two. If you're with someone who wants it well done get the Lamb Shoulder.

Since trying the buffet breakfast here (which was amazing!) my partner and I were wanting to dine in for dinner so we did that and firstly the service is very good we were served but a young man with great manners and everything came out promptly, only thing I would say is the pricing of the steaks didn’t reflect in the taste, they were cooked beautifully I just think for the price point I expected more in flavour. Beautiful atmosphere, great service, delicious cocktails but maybe more flavouring in the steak would top it off! Would still 100% recommend the breakfast! And for reference I had the 300g sirloin and my partner had the T-bone steak.

We heard great things about bloody marys however being vegetarian, we don't explore a lot of steak restaurants. A fellow vegetarian recommended this place to us, so we booked a table. Today it was a bit chilly outside but nice and cosy inside. we were impressed the staff were very attentive and accommodating, offering for me to make a starter into a main, laughing with us about vegetarians at steak restaurants. As a starter we shared the caramelised onion bread with truffle garlic butter. The bread was so amazing! Fresh out of the oven, butter melted into it beautifully. My partner had 30 aged sirloin, cooked med rare, with truffle mash and peppercorn gravy.. he can highly recommend. I had the Autumn vegetable tart. They make very good food. We will definitely return. One of the better steak restaurants in Christchurch. Edit: spelling

Superb dinner. The deer (mountain river venison) is a must try item, with juicy, tender taste. The rib eye is also outstanding. The potato and source aside are complementary. The roasted potato is nice. The oyster duo (i think it is size 1) is juz 10, very reasonable price. Very recommended.

While the steak itself was done quite well, the sauce was watery and the goose fat potatoes were stale and dry. The onion rings cost extra, and while they were crispy on the outside, the inside was dripping with oil. Not impressed given the pricetag and the classy facade it puts on - a meal sitting somewhere closer to a $30 pub steak than what my $60 should have gotten me.

We arrived 5 mins earlier than our booking time and got asked to wait in the bar even though the restaurant was virtually empty. Our booking was for 6:15pm. Meals were pricey. We were looking forward to the venison but found it was no longer on the menu. Our waitress was superb.

Absolutely delicious we arrived at 7.00 for our reservation was impressed with our Server “Abi” he was kind and very helpful in explaining the way the menu works. We started with a 2 Croquettes of braised lamb and 100g of thick cut, dry cured maple glazed bacon. The Croquettes were delicious and would happily live off of them for the rest of my life. We then had Mains of 90 day grain finished (Wakanui) Eye Fillet - Medium Rare with house hash brown, beef dripping fries, Mushroom & Garlic Sauce. We also added the big onion rings and cauliflower & cheese. The Steak was melt in your mouth and just amazing the Char on the outside was incredible and added such a depth of flavour, the sauce was rich and very dark in colour. All in all very impressed with the whole experience, food, drink, service and atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone who love steak and is not afraid to splash a little cash for an extraordinary night.

We dined there last night, and I have to say it was fantastic. My wife and i don't have big appetites so we ordered the set menu (2 or 3 courses). We looked at the a la carte, and the 300g and bigger steaks seemed too much. So I went for the combo with a pork belly starter. Delicious. Well balanced Then the 180g fillet steak (rare). Beautiful fine grained beef. Clearly, the chef respects good meat. It came with beautifully fresh green beans. And the scalloped garlic potatoes were delicious too. Added some broccoli in an excellent ?bernaise sauce. Faultless. A really lovely meal. Great value at $59 We really enjoyed the night (good service too). And we were please we could show it off to our friend from Tauranga. Also, I went to use our Entertainment Book App.it was the first time I'd used it this year. But it looked like it was not activated. The maitre d' tried hard to help but she was stumped too, but she went "above and beyond". We appreciate good service. Now I followed up with Entertainment Book - the following may help. If you have an older version of the app, it might not "register" so the solution is: Uninstall the App Restart the device Re install the ((new) Entertainment ANZ App Open the New App and enter your mobile number. It sends you a code. Enter the four-digit verification code. Link your account if your mobile number is not recognised, enter your email address & password. Having been here many times for their legendary prime rib the 4 of us where left very disappointed..the meat was not good but when we discussed with waiter he said no one else had complained but accepted the meat was hard to cut. We left most as was too tough to eat and took remainder home for the dog!! Expensive dog food!! We were offered a free dessert but on reflection this really wasn't good enough for such a high class restaurant!! Service is always good tho. If you want to impress your mistress or PA in a place too expensive for your wife to visit this is the place to go. Nice big space that you can hide in and multiple exits the lighting is a little more intamite with the mistress or PA. Sadly for me with a name like Bloody Mary's reportedly a premier steak house you would hope they can do steak. Sadly the way I asked for my meat to be prepared (Medium Rare) was not the way it arrived (Dog Chew Toy two levels past serving) and sending food back is not a good look in front of company (I think the embarrasment was my first strike). Her Salmon was perfect as was the second steak so I guess the first was a mistake, the second came unseasoned, quickly fixed with pepper supplied by wait staff. The meal was a little disjointed by the sending back of the steak but the alcohol served and my ability to inhale food caught us up (but may have been the second strike). Dessert was perfect tho and won points back the wait staff were also awesome the whole time, we were not rushed or pushed for drinks or desserts but offered options and the waiters recommended was well worthy. As it was raining I went and got the car but pulled into the kerb as she ran out splashing her shoes (Third Strike). Not the results I hoped for from dinner or the date but they only got the steak wrong.

Fan bloody tastic. An 8 day stay at Rydges with Bloody Mary's our go to for drinks and meals. From the first welcoming step until the last leaving step. The food and beverages were outstanding and highly recommended. However for us it was the staff that made our visit truly exceptional. Their help and service was the best we have ever encountered anywhere. We would like make special mentions to Sapphire, who was our first contact, Ben & Faz, who kept the wife amused with their cocktail making skills, Sam and Jameen for their amazing service ensuring we were well hydrated. Ben along with his excellent cocktail making skills also provided us with great recommendations on meals to try at the restaurant and gave us many suggestions on activities to do while we were visiting. We would highly recommend taking the time to visit.

You should be very proud of your staff. I had a horrible experience of being yelled and followed by a drunk man (in broad daylight!). I ducked inside as I didn’t want the man to see where I was actually going. Great Steak, excellent drinks selection, lots and lots of peas, the service could have been better. I went with 2 guests and we enjoyed the steak very much. My carrots and peas side dish came with 3 slices of carrot and what seemed like 500g of peas. I like peas but not that much. The serving staff could have been more attentive, we had to wait quite a while to get a drink, and no one checked to see if our meals were OK or if we needed more wine or water. But the steak was really good.

We went for my boyfriend's birthday and had an amazing dinner! Everything way cooked to perfection and was beautiful. Would highly recommend the bacon starter and the Wakanui Steak. The flat bread starter, however, was quite small for the price tag and wasn't really worth it. It was awesome service and a lovely night.

Very nice restaurant attached to the Rydges hotel. Very nice breakfast and dinners. If you're a fan of steak, their 24 hour cooked rib eye on a Wednesday night is a meat eaters dream. Carved at the table too. Ate here over three nights this week and never had a complaint. If I'm being super picky, their cutlery and steak knives are not very sharp - having to saw through tender steak ruins it a bit.

The burger was tasty and the linseed and honey loaf with truffles butter was yum (drizzle some honey over the butter and it would be perfect). 4 stars only because we had to send the loaf back as it was still fridge-cold in the middle (rectified very quickly) and the spiced Bloody Mary’s we ordered were lacking flavour - more Worcestershire, chilli & lime needed. We have been going to Bloody Marys for over a year now. The breakfast buffet is hands down the best you will find in Christchurch. The array and quality of the food is well worth the price. The dinner menu there is also good, the salmon is great but steak is where they truly shine.

Two restaurants in one. At the bar section it is more informal smaller selection of food but cooked in the same kitchen as the fine dining restaurant. Fine dining restaurant has all the pomp and ceremony expected of a fine experience. They pride themselves in their steak quality and selection. Also fine dining has dry aged beef. Wine and beer choices galore and the dessert menu is really worth staying to have. Staff go the extra mile to ensure you are happy. Recommend book ahead as it is typically busy Friday and weekends.

We had a great evening here. There are 2 different seating areas with somewhat separated menus. We landed in the section for the "more outdoorsie" folk. The place is still primarily aimed at a dinner party not so much a backpacker hangout. Food was tasty, the chicken burger I had was excellent. Prices on the higher end of average range (for NZ). Staff was exceptionally friendly and when we asked to have the AC turned down, since it was quite chill, they promptly did so :-) Portions where somewhat small which is of course subjective and remains the only downside for the evening. Had sirloin and eye fillet from their brasserie menu which came with coleslaw, chips and bearnaise sauce. At $36/$37 respectively you expect quality, which you certainly get! Very indulgent indeed. Only thing I didn't like was the cushioned seats but apparently my dining partners stool was very comfy.

My partner and I are very quick to nitpick if I'm brutally honest about our worst personality quirks, Bloody Mary's, however, was a brilliant experience. The staff were exceedingly polite and friendly from when we walked in to when we left. The food was amazing. If you know steak, the time they take to prepare it correctly and the quality you are presented at Bloody Mary's, you are getting a phenomenal deal. It was the perfect amount of food and well worth the prices. The selection of wine they had was incredible and the prices for them are very reasonable when you realise the quality available. The two details that really stood out for me were the great whisky selection and the presentation of said whisky, and how we were not interrupted during our meal. Normally a waiter coming over to make sure everything is ok I find akin to a dentist asking how your day's going while pottering around your mouth. The staff were attentive but gratefully absent during our actual consumption of our dinner. I also noticed, that if anything was amiss, I would have been able to flag someone down easily. I would recommend this to any of my friends and family heartily.

The best meal that my partner and I have had in a long long time!
