Sharing platter, fish tacos, and banana dessert were really good. They’re dog-friendly on the patio. Servers were nice but one seemed a bit confused about the menu and what they had on offer.

We often dine at No4 and our latest experience was superb. For context, we were on the final leg of an epic Easter road trip and needed a nice, relaxed, long lunch with options for the children. Well No4 really delivered with really neat bento boxes and colouring for the wee dots and a delicious upmarket gastro-pub lunch for my wife and I. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, excellent menu, high quality guests, a really nice board room which I will ask to use in the future, indoor/outdoor options and brilliant location. Fantastic Service. Went for our 1 year anniversary and left in booking notes that this was the occasion, was very nice to be asked about the anniversary when we walked in and got sat down. Food and drink was fantastic. Will be back again!

We shared a wonderful meal here with special friends. The first course was excellent. The waitstaff were helpful, the seats comfortable. The acoustics were great for us as several members of our party were deaf. The only issue was after such a delicious meal we were looking forward to dessert. However we were so disappointed with the menu's limitations that we left and enjoyed our dessert elsewhere. I suggest the chefs give it an overhaul and present a menu that is enticing and more in keeping with the main course.

Why do we come back time and time again? The service is fantastic! Young Kevin was delightful and looked after us in our private room superbly - attentive, swift, invisible. The food again was memorable - superb presentation, great flavours, thoughtful variety. the venue is perfect. The hire of the private room is very reasonable and it comes with its own bar and staff. Just excellent! This was my last meal before leaving Christchurch, and boy oh boy was No.4 the right place. Food was ubiquitously beautiful and tasty. Service was delightful as well. We were a group of four, and we split the curry fries as a yummy starter. For a main, I ordered the beef Wellington, and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare with spot-on seasoning and sides. Two of our group ordered the schnitzel, which was quite good. The last one ordered risotto, and that was absolutely one of the most perfectly flavored things I've ever put in my mouth. Desserts and cocktails were also simply delicious. Truly I cannot think of a complaint. Thank you No.4 for a stellar conclusion to my time in NZ!

So, taking two people as an example, we ventured to Room 4 this weekend and had a great time, where the food and staff were lovely. It was a busy afternoon, many tables were reserved, but the staff helped us find the table and we ordered drinks and wooden boards. The staff are cheerful and efficient, and the wooden planks are simply sacred. We stayed for a few hours to drink, and then moved on. We enjoyed our visit very much. Two of us mentioned that adding blue cheese would be great, and also noticed that they have many customers with dogs, and the waitress patted them from time to time and poured them directly into a pint of beer. It didn't bother us, but I think other people I know will find this a bit slack. Will come back again.

We held a celebration at No 4 after our mother's memorial service and had one of the private areas. We had a variety of ages present and there was plenty of seating and tables. The platters that we ordered were delicious and the staff who were taking drink orders were friendly and efficient. Many of our guests commented on what a prefect venue it was.

Two of us went on a Saturday evening; it wasn't too busy, mostly because of Covid level 2 - I'm sure that it would be very busy otherwise, I could not fault anything about the evening. It was a little cold when we first arrived, but warmed up once the door was closed. The service was great, not intrusive, the wine list (library!) is just that, a library, and all of our meals were delicious. They arrived quickly, were a good size, wonderfully cooked and lived up to their menu descriptions. We will definitely be back.

I chose this place due to the mushy peas option (I’m British, you have to love that) and was not disappointed. Fantastic! It was "date-night" with my partner and we were attended to straight away with warmth - both from the staff and the restaurant. The food was delectable - he had Caribbean Pork and I had Chicken Lemongrass Salad. The atmosphere was perfect with just the right noise level to not have every word heard but not too loud. After dinner we were able to catch a bit of cricket. Perfect! Highly recommend. We'll be back!

We had our daughter’s engagement party on Saturday night 20/3/2021. We booked out the outside area and a small side of the restaurant. WOW! The communication was amazing through Rosie and on the night she was outstanding! We had so many comments from our guests on her service on the night. She kept our glasses full, organised the food coming out at the right time and never forgot a face. What an asset to your business! We would highly recommend the service and the food for a function or a meal for two.

Have been here before. I like dark beer and they serve a nice Monteiths black beer in big glasses. Beautiful. A group of us also had dinner. I am a steak liking person but this time was tempted by good reports of their Prawn risotto with sambal. It was an excellent choice but I would have liked a bit more heat. Note: the others of the group all enjoyed their various choices too. Ambience was good and service attentive.

I've eaten at the resturant a few times and after a great first up experience, the subsequent two haven't been so good. Ther servive and atmosphere was great but the food wasn't up to scratch. I had fillet steak and it was tough and chewy when it should be melt in your mouth. My sons chicken nibbles were over cooked. I'm a member of No4 so I'll drink there all the time but I'm unlikely to eat there again. Cheers

We booked the "Library" for my son's 21st birthday with 16 guests. The food was delicious and service impeccable. We had a number of vegetarians in our party and they were more than happy to accommodate and tweak the set menu to suit our needs. The Library is perfect for a small, private function. The staff are very attentive. The lamb was divine! Highly recommend to anyone wishing to host a small function.

Highlyrecommended! We called in on a Saturday for a late lunch and ordered the large plank between us. The platter was excellent, more than enough for the 3 of us, very tasty and good value for money. We sat outside in the very nice area which is well set up with opening louvre roof, roll up blinds for walls and heating for our changeable climate. It was a busy day and tables were in high demand but they put the reserved signs on the tables with the time they are reserved for. Great idea, we didn't have a table reserved so had to move from one to another after a while but that was no problem. Staff and service were outstanding. My only complaint is that they allow dogs in there but that is a personal preference thing, I'm not a dog person. Although 2 of the staff did pat a dog then continued to serve food and drinks straight after. I actually couldn't care less about this but I know people that would.

After visiting two city centre restaurants and receiving poor service we came to no4 and were delighted with not only the food but the staff too. The restaurant area was very busy but we were kindly offered a table in the quiet library area and given full table service despite a busy bar. The cocktails were excellent and the food was the best I have had in quite a while. We had steak and kangaroo which were perfectly cooked and came with amazing sides - we were even able to customise the sides to fit some of our parties dietary requirements. Will definitely be back!

The decor is a little dated but ever thing was clean. The dining area is divided up into separate areas and alcoves so the space feels cosy.

I go there with the boys for a good 50% of my social drinking requirements; for that end of town, drink prices aren't too crazy and service is always good. Main reason I go there is they generally show the UFC matches which I love; went there for the Ferguson vs Cowboy fight and they gave us free rein of the private lounge/bar which was very nice! Food is well done bar fare; bit on the expensive side, but they give fairly decent portions. Fergus Wright was a great asset to the team and if he comes back from the UK, I'm sure he'd be well received by the punters.

Myself and my family had the pleasure of dining at No.4 Restaurant for Father's day.. What a wonderful experience it was.. The personalized service we received was absolutely fantastic. It was extremely busy, but we were all looked after very well and all our needs were met with pleasant efficiency. The food was awesome. I highly recommend the whitebait sliders. And the fish of the day, was to die for.. I have never had anyhting like it before. The best plate of food I have eaten.. Thankyou so much N0.4. This place definitely makes you feel comfortable, the staff there are very friendly and look after you very well. If you are cold they have heaters and shelter in multiple outside areas, the staff there even offer to comfort you with a blanket to keep warm, even hot water bottles for the chilly winter nights. The restaurant offers a great range of flavours, meals and delicious desserts. Maybe you'd like to book a small or large, private function area with a bar for convenience and platters to share around. These guys have it all, seriously. The best part is definitely the atmosphere, and let's not forget about the Bluff Oysters they offer (during Oyster season). This place has live music, they air sports inside and outside, and there's usually information about their weekly plans (whether it be happy hour, quiz night, competitions etc.) I highly recommend visiting this place if you're looking for something more than casual. Top marks for sure.

Nice place and staff. Nothing exceedingly special about this place. Except it's often a lot less busy than the near by Aikmans which means it's quicker to get a drink.

No 4 is definitely a "regulars" type of crowd. During the summers, the patio is filled every night with loud laughs, a sporting event on the TV or live music on the weekends. The average age is around 40, but on Thursdays it does draw in a good young population. With various specials featuring every day, it's a great place to unwind after work. As it's located in the Merivale/Saint Albans area, except to drop more than a few gold coins for a drink or a bite to eat, but the food is pretty tasty (put the mango back in the mango chicken salad, please!) and the drinks are made with care. Most of the beers on draught are Monteith's, so if you fancy something different, try a different spot. What makes this such a great bar (besides the taxi stand out front) are the various rooms that available. There are two separate outdoor patio areas (a larger one where live music is played with high top and low top tables and a smaller more intimate area great for a small group gathering to watch a sport match or for a birthday dinner). Inside they have a more formal dining area, a high top area and a library with a large TV and tall top tables. This is where the hen parties can go wild. It's definitely one of the top choices if you're in the area.
