J.Went to a get-together there recently, food was good! Good atmosphere, service/ wait staff were a bit bitter and the pour quality for some drinks was poor for the price. Ordered a gin & tonic and was tasteless probably due to the fact the tonic came out of the multi-drink tap thing making it flat as well.
A.It was my first time there and we were celebrating someone's birthday. The staff were friendly which added to the great atmosphere of the place. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. If you are in Christchurch you have to give them a try. Thank you guys for a great night ,a great meal and a great experience.
M.We were very lucky to be welcomed by the owner and were given a nice small tour for the place. We got a chance to try out table shuffleboard near the entrance. I do recommend the dessert
"Chocolate fondue pot". Love the high view and open area. Its a good place to try at different times of the day. Sunday is board games day.
D.The Manager was on to it , the staff were very friendly , polite and busy and seemed to enjoy their job the menu was good and the place was humming . Great Restaurant Great staff and atmosphere and the food was of a high standard.
I recommend this restaurant and will be coming back often.

T.Great place. Singer was fantastic and very accommodating for us, especially playing Wagon Wheel. Food was good. Just wish I could have ordered a meal but was too full from the entrée coming out late.

T.Some of the reviews here say 'very slow' but honestly, well worth the wait. The fondue is amazing, but the real star of the show was the front of house. She was amazing!

K.Salads (halloumi & pulled lamb) were both great and my friends loved their angus burgers with potato skins and portions were big enough (as you would expect for this price). Service was very basic and quite slow though.

B.Visited Retropolitan Social for the first time tonight for a work do. Wow! What an incredible place - the decor, the music, the food and the incredibly friendly staff. Absolutely loved the experience - we will be back for sure. The only thing I'd change is to tone the volume down a tad on the music, as our group were straining to hear each other. But super happy with everything else, especially the service from our bubbly waitress 😃

K.After Pork ribs were sold out, then the lamb shanks, got the roast beef. Junk!! Quite glad there was only 3 slices of this old reheated meat on the plate, as it was less of a waste. When you have to go home and eat more, you know it wasn't up to scratch.
It's probably fair I finally had a bad experience at a restaurant. 10/1 is now my count. Cool place, just had a bad meal. Bit more room between tables wouldn't go a miss either.

M.Celebrated my 50th birthday here - Danny and his team were awesome to deal with. Great food, service and music & cocktails. A cool 70's retro vibe with board games & shuffleboard. Highly recommend a visit to have a walk down memory lane!

Man, what an experience - the food and service was absolutely exceptional! Thank you to all the employees who kept us entertained for the visit - the games, little stories, beers and music made this one of our favorite new places to visit (when we're in Christchurch of course)

C.The ambiance is excellent but everything else was average. There was a lot of little things that bothered me such as service staff not knowing what the vegetarian option of the day was. After we ordered a cocktail we found they had run out of mint, which is fine but they weren't very apologetic or friendly about it. The food was average, the beef a little dry for our liking. It was an Ok dinner but there are better options in Christchurch

A.It's a great venue but the live entertainment in the middle of the area where people wanna sit and eat and talk makes no sense to me.

D.As a Swiss person I was missing my home favourite dish: the cheese fondue. To be clear, it has nothing to do with the swiss thing... and that's a good thing considering the fact you cannot find the same cheeses here in NZ. Here, it is more like a creamy sauce with spices in which we can dip a lot of yummy stuffs. We really loved it and it is very interesting to taste an other, as convincing, interpretation of the same dish. The place has a unique retro atmosphere we enjoyed a lot and Callum is a highly sympatic person who looks passionate with his job. Only little shadow, it is quite expensive for the quantity.
We will try to come back before the end of our trip :D

C.We came in because we liked the name. Inside, the decor was lovely and the staff even more so. Callum is a talented mixologist. And we had a great time chatting with him and the other staff. We also had to come back a second time to sample the dessert fondu! Please give this place a try if you're anywhere nearby.
D.Very cool place with an amazing 70s vibe. They've had to leave some of the stuff behind from Lincoln Rd but there is still plenty. Very good beer. Very hard to find if coming from St Asiph as is hidden upstairs.

B.1 October 2017 - I was having an afternoon drink at this bar at a reasonably hot 🔥 Sunday afternoon. The first time I walked in this place, it feels retro and funky. There is a lot of old nostalgia items that goes back to 60s, 70s and 80s. Feels like going back in time ⌚. The lighting(even during the day) is colourful and kinda hippy.
The ground floor is where you can order the drinks 🍻🍸🍷🍾🍹🍺with bar stools and tables for the patrons to eat and drink. There is a mezzanine floor where bean bags and sofas are available for the patrons to chill and enjoy the view, and having their own little private space/ corner. There is a large partially covered area for patrons to eat and drink, and it is also an outdoor smoking 🚬 area.
The toilet 🚽 block is located directly across the main bar and restaurant 🍴 building.
Plenty of parking 🅿.
They accept cash, EFTPOS and credit card payments, for those who want to know.
Would I go back? Yes 😏
Would I recommend? Yes 😊
Food: I can't comment as I haven't eaten there yet, only drinking 🍻.
Ambience: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐⭐ out of 5. Very funky and retro interior deco. Great atmosphere.
Price: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ out of 5. Reasonable pricing compared to other bars and eateries. Nothing out of extraordinary.

N.A cool little step back in time, I saw my first kind of roller skates that I ever had there! Great atmosphere, so much to look at, staff were awesome, will definitely go back!

G.Cargo Bar is a regular of mine as my BNI chapter meets there every Tuesday morning; the staff are always fantastic, the food is diverse and divine and after work the drinks are great. H and his team are gracious hosts who always ensure you are happy and looked after. They use the award winning coffee from Coffee Supreme and its always perfect. Cargo Bar is also a cigar-friendly establishment, they have a good selection of cigars behind the bar.
