Our family has all it's birthday luncheons for our friends at The Rat as we call it (aka The Rose &Thistle). On Saturday we had a fabulous lunch of fillet steak vs with salad chips and sauces we chose. Pud followed - equally yum. The chef is an incredible cook and the wait staff my are friendly efficient and helpful. Chef doesn't mind that we bring our own birthday cake. Well done everybody.

Great place to grab a feed and beer. Steak special they had on for $14.50 was fantastic, steak was very tender and cooked to perfection (not overdone). Good serving sizes. Staff were efficient and friendly. Will certainly visit again next time in Christchurch.

Loved it. Everything we expected from a local pub. The team made the experience perfect. The food was fantastic, from the sticky ribs to the roast which tasted like granny made it. (some of the best garlic bread too, I might add!) thanks so much for accommodating us and making a takeaway sundae for the little fella 😂😊 you guys rock!

They are very nice and friendly. We had the white bait special and fish & chips. Order at the bar and then take a seat. To reorder just go back to the bar. Definitely an after work hangout place. Bartenders were great.

Nice lay out but price of jug of beer to dear compared to a lot of pubs

Great staff , nice cold beer , Yummy 😋 burgers and chips . Sing your heart out on Friday night and Rock on Saturday night with the band see you there , bring your blue sueded shoes .

Great place great people. Outdoor area is large also partly under cover with heating. Pool table. Food. Pokies. Entertainment. Everything in one place you need on a night out. Grated with a smile and made to feel welcome.

Beer was nice, band was great but sadly very quiet for a Saturday night which caused us to move on after a couple of beers.

Nice warm little bar in Papanui that offers very reasonably priced drinks, nice bar snacks and has friendly bar staff. Very welcoming vibe!

Nice friendly staff, good menu and pricing of food. Slow bar service during the day with only 1 or 2 staff on but understandable for daytime I suppose. Hygiene and coffees could likely be improved but pretty standard for a bar awesome $10 lunch deals on weekend.

The RAT stays open specifically late on a Tuesday to cater for our local free dive club drinks, cant ask for better than that! Good selection of beers, and quick hearty food options

It was a local pub pokies tab one side of the room restaurant and bar on the other ....glad there's no smoking any more

The staff were great. Daniel who served us had great chat and made our night well enjoyable, for young youth of today we enjoyed our night all thanks to the staff here. Will definitely be returning x

Friendly staff Meals brillant

Nice folks, nice beer and cider selection, good food, nice atmosphere! Went on a sunday night with friends on the way down to the ice and really enjoyed the evening. Watched some world cup on the multiple televisions and really had a good time.

Amazing pub with a lovely team and a great group of regulars! Strongly recommend heading down on a Thursday night for a spot of karaoke, or just a drink and some free entertainment!

The rose and thistle is a great bar and restaurant. they have done up the menu and the food is great, the staff are always friendly and a good range of beer and wine. always locals there which makes a fun atmosphere!

Was very nice could do with a bit more decor to set the ambiance of the era the place was trying to set. Friendly management and staff the pub food was very nice.

I attend the quiz nights on a Mondays when I can. All the staff are lovely and always greet with a smile. The food is good too!

Great service and very good value for money. A few of us went in today and we all got our meals out together.

Staff really good but getting to sing song on karaoke bit of waste of time when get 1 song over a 2 hour period and other s get to sing 3 or4 songs a bit unfair so If u going there to sing u are wasting your time

On a tour from the U.S. to NZ, in Nov. '12 we stayed at a motel in Christchurch. I wandered up the street and into the RAT, as they call it. A party after a golf tournament was going on. Very friendly guys, very good beer. Squeeky clean.
