Our family has all it's birthday luncheons for our friends at The Rat as we call it (aka The Rose &Thistle). On Saturday we had a fabulous lunch of fillet steak vs with salad chips and sauces we chose. Pud followed - equally yum. The chef is an incredible cook and the wait staff my are friendly efficient and helpful. Chef doesn't mind that we bring our own birthday cake. Well done everybody.

Great place to grab a feed and beer. Steak special they had on for $14.50 was fantastic, steak was very tender and cooked to perfection (not overdone). Good serving sizes. Staff were efficient and friendly. Will certainly visit again next time in Christchurch.

Loved it. Everything we expected from a local pub. The team made the experience perfect. The food was fantastic, from the sticky ribs to the roast which tasted like granny made it. (some of the best garlic bread too, I might add!) thanks so much for accommodating us and making a takeaway sundae for the little fella 😂😊 you guys rock!

They are very nice and friendly. We had the white bait special and fish & chips. Order at the bar and then take a seat. To reorder just go back to the bar. Definitely an after work hangout place. Bartenders were great.

Nice lay out but price of jug of beer to dear compared to a lot of pubs

Great staff , nice cold beer , Yummy 😋 burgers and chips . Sing your heart out on Friday night and Rock on Saturday night with the band see you there , bring your blue sueded shoes .

Nice warm little bar in Papanui that offers very reasonably priced drinks, nice bar snacks and has friendly bar staff. Very welcoming vibe!

Nice friendly staff, good menu and pricing of food. Slow bar service during the day with only 1 or 2 staff on but understandable for daytime I suppose. Hygiene and coffees could likely be improved but pretty standard for a bar awesome $10 lunch deals on weekend.

Friendly staff Meals brillant

Nice folks, nice beer and cider selection, good food, nice atmosphere! Went on a sunday night with friends on the way down to the ice and really enjoyed the evening. Watched some world cup on the multiple televisions and really had a good time.

On a tour from the U.S. to NZ, in Nov. '12 we stayed at a motel in Christchurch. I wandered up the street and into the RAT, as they call it. A party after a golf tournament was going on. Very friendly guys, very good beer. Squeeky clean.
