That was the very first experience of ours at "The Bog". And we do believe, that not the last one as well. Mostly its menu is about the fast food there. The food was not "over the moon", but not bad at the same time. (Didn't mean to hurt their Chef at all, but we've got plenty of splendid cuisine experiences to compare to. 😉🙂) But don't forget, it's an Irish pub (and not a "Michelin" restaurant), where u'd better drink some good beverage and don't eat too much... ;) 😉😂 Well, to be short: Quite acceptable food 🍲, very nice and kind staff and absolutely fantastic atmosphere with some live music (not sure if occasionally or on the regular basis) inside. Can recommend, no doubt... 👍😁

Going to the bog was a fairly spontaneous decision made because we wanted to try something new and it was a great decision! We were made welcome and shown to our table promptly. They had a great atmosphere, it had a very fun, vibrant pub feel. The music was good and upbeat but a little on the loud side so don't go in expecting a quiet dining experience. They have a beautiful interior and it was very clean and had a very warm welcoming vibe. The bathrooms were also very nice and clean. The staff were some of the best I have had the pleasure of being served by. They were pleasant and polite, they were very quick to remove used dishes and always nearby to assist us with any queries or requests and knew all of the specials without hesitation. Everything on the menu sounded amazing and was reasonably priced. We ordered Garlic bread which had some of the creamiest, lightest and most amazing garlic butter I have ever had. The chicken noodle soup was cooked to perfection with all of the veggies being just right and the broth was amazing, i could have just had the soup broth for my meal and would still have been very satisfied. I ordered the chicken schnitzel which was moist and delicious, my only issue with it was there not being enough mushroom sauce but that's mostly because it was so delicious. My partner ordered one of the steak dishes which was a fair bit tougher than it should have been but it wasn't bad enough to ruin the meal. Overall a fantastic experience and we will have to go back again because i feel like i need to try everything on the menu.

Very vlean and comfortable for a good nights set up and the menu looked great too. Main craft beer beside the kilkenny is the Panhead.

Went on Thursday night for the pub quiz. Food and drinks were good and the vibe was great. The quiz went from 7pm till about 9:30 and with no limits on group size if you go with the right people it can make for a really fun time. I was a little confused by the rules under COVID but eventually after other staff members studiously ignored me someone helped me out and told me what I needed to do. In an odd aside no one actually checked our vaccine passes.

Great bar, friendly enough staff. Stupid mask mandates for restaurants/cafes now.... wear it walking in, take it off when seated... doesn't make sense to me. Approached the bar to show vaccine passport before being seated with our group only to be told to be seated and never asked for passport anyway. Still, love not having to stand at the bar to be served, that's a bonus now!

Wasn't very impressed with the time it took the bar staff to help us with a drunk annoying customer who was harassing us. Quiet due to covid levels and not being allowed to dance. Great live music

This fine establishment is defiantly a must do in christchurch. We visited on a busy Friday evening they were celebrating half way to St Patrick's. We were met by a fine young Irish man who seemed very happy to see us and accommodate us without a booking. The menu will have you wanting to order a bit of everything. Prawn starter and Guinness hotpot was my choice. The best food I had in a very long time, wife had fish and chips which she enjoyed very much too. Every staff member that attended us had smiles and seemed very jolly. Irish music playing and Guinness flowing. Takes me back to my roots. We will be back again soon. Thank you to the bog clan.

Fun friendly servers. Great atmosphere. Get there for the happy hour 5 to 6. Drinks arent half but discounted. We didn't eat but the dishes coming out of the kitchen looked generous.

Great food, great place to visit for the first time, but poor service. Our waitress had a bad attitude and presented as if she was in a bit of a grumpy mood. Apart from that. Good establishment. Great entertainment with the Irish Dancers of all ages doing their thing. That was an excellent experience that we had never seen before. We became instant fans.

Fabulous pub. Great atmosphere for 6pm on a Sunday. Open night Mic 🎤 and great performers that played modern to sing a long songs. Varied clientele that all got along and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Wee Lil gem with a few rough edges. Visited this place a few times but not enough to be a regular. Love the rock/country music but this seems to be the place for the people to go "hunting" for their prey. Cannot fault the place though. Drinks were normal price (not cheap or expensive). Music is normally good. Definitely worth a visit if you are in town.

Went for a pub quiz. Evening was well organized with live music afterwards. The drinks were reasonable price and the building was nice and clean. I imagine the place is incredible when they okay wagon wheel!!

Honestly, this is one of my favourite places in Christchurch. I come here with all my friends about once a month on a Friday after a BYO in town and we all agree its the best. There's a live cover band to sing/scream and dance along to. The bouncers are lovely and the dress code isn't ridiculous like some places, also there's rarely a line. My favourite part is that there is space to dance but also quiet areas where you can actually have a conversation which i feel is missing in many places. I love it here.

Great place anytime of the day. Staff are fantastic. I go regularly on a night out for the live music and I really appreciate how the bouncers look out for the safety of patrons. Have seen others be kicked out for being too drunk, but they're sent out with their friends. Also encouraging people to drink water and just being generally personable/respectful. They're part of why I keep going back, plus it's always a fun time!

Great Irish pub! Delicious food! We got the Guinness Hot Pie and the Seafood Chowder along with Guinness and neither the food nor drinks disappointed. There was fantastic live music. The atmosphere was laid back, comfortable, and homey. Definitely a favorite place!

Went to this place last night, had a great time. The staff were lovely and the live music was really enjoyable. So much so that I could hardly have a drink before being asked to dance, with one of a few women whom kept asking my brother and I for a dance. As unlikely as it may be, that one of those beautiful women might read this, if you're the gorgeous Maori woman from the West Coast, then I'd love to hear from you again. Great place for an after work wind down. Good atmosphere and space to have a drink or ready a meal. Staff are very friendly and willing to bring you your perfectly poured Guinness. Toilets are clean. The whole place is very clean. Food appeared to be enjoyed by those eating. Good outdoor space for having a cigarette or just watching the world pass by.

A good Irish styled pub that attracts a good crowd, a friendly atmosphere. Friendly staff, food good pub grub. There was one time I stopped in on a late Saturday afternoon and it was v quiet in late summer. I chose to sit outside (despite it being a busyish road) as it’s quite dark inside. There are two tables and one booth type table in the area I sat. When I went to the area there was a woman sitting in the booth table, the most comfortable of the seats. It appeared to me she was a staffer as she was drinking coke out of a plastic drink bottle. Shortly after a Scandinavian couple arrived and took the last table but from their comments they were also wondering why an employee was chilling in an area for paying customers. The owners should make sure staff have their own comfortable area where they can take their break. Hospitality standards in New Zealand can be ropey at times but there’s an easy fix for this that is a win win for everyone.

Where to begin. I will be visiting this place on a weekly basis. Customer service : Fiona behind the bar greeted me and my partner well and provided some spectacular service, quick with the drinks and friendly 5/5. Drinks : has Guinness, more options too but why would I need more than Guinness 5/5. Food: the special of the month (was a beef roast and a house pint) was absolutely perfect, idk who cooked it but if they could teach me that'd be lovely. 5/5. Price : middle range, was $25 for the special of the month, pricy but worth it 4/5. Will be coming back here often, this will be my new local spot.

The Bog staff was happy to seat us early which was greatly appreciated. The entree we ordered was the crispy chicken and it was amazing! The coating was crunchy and fresh and the chicken inside was incredibly soft. For our mains we had the Ribeye and the Roast Pork and both were some of the best meals we've had eating out in a long time. The staff was attentive and was always around to check that we were alright. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, and the live music playing was a very nice addition. Overall, I would recommend The Bog to anyone wanting a comfy night out with some amazing food and a warm atmosphere. We will definite be going again:)

We were served mostly by Luke on a working holiday from Ireland! He was very friendly & informative regarding the sport of hurling a dangerous Irish sport almost never heard of in New Zealand unless your a fan of all sport, our lunch & the beer were also good & parking right out front on the street was plentiful! Such a great place to visit, has become a regular tradition in our family every Tuesday for the live music. Staff are great, particularly the young waitress (pasifika girl I believe, sorry but didnt catch her name!). Very friendly and attentive. Food is delicious, particularly the glazed pork belly. Best guinness in town. And their meals are great. Perfectly cooked steak, with great flavor combinations on the plate. Nothing is uninteresting, and you'll struggle to finish every bite. Great variety on the menu, too. Something for everyone. The surroundings make you feel like you are visiting a traditional pub in Ireland. The music and live musicians are well chosen. The only fault with this venue is that it can be too busy, but what does that tell you?

Easily the best Irish pub in Chch, quality selection of beers available both on tap and in the fridge, liquor shelves are stacked with whatever you could want. Lovely LOVELY staff, good mix of Irish and kiwi lads and lasses, the glassy boys are a good laugh! Could not recommend enough. Thursday night has a cool quiz, good for a group. If you can catch the Black Velvet Band or the Flat City Brotherhood playing there on a Friday or Saturday then you're in for a good time.

Came close to closing time on Saturday night. It had obviously been busy as the tables etc were in a bit of a state. There were heaps of staff behind the bar but only two put of about 8 were serving. The live band was ok. I would come again bit probably aim for earlier in the night.

Pub quiz on Thursdays. 7pm till 10pm. If a group booking a table is advisable. Quiz host is useless. Music too loud to discuss answers. Dosent read the questions beforehand and it shows. Mixes up the questions. The questions from Believe it or not are challenging at times.

Food is great. Live music. Drinks are fairly cheap. Bouncer bit strict but as ive heard. Changed alot from where the place was a few months ago. On the bad side. You cant take your drink with you when you smoke. You have to leave it at the entrance of the smoking area. When i came back to get my glass. My glass of beer was stolen and the bouncer didnt see it happen. So its quite easy to get druged by someone when you are smoking outside cause your eyes arent always on it

I wanted to go to The Bog because my acquaintance said to me if you like Irish Pub you should go to The Bog. The Bog was the best Irish pub I've ever been to. I want to hear traditional Irish music, and I can hear it on Tuesdays so I'm going to go to The Bog on Tuesdays.
