I rated this place a 5 but I've gotta put it out there. The customer service from the Thai Woman is absolutely unacceptable! We used to come in quite a bit and I rated her customer service at a high level. Dunno what's happened? But the vibe from her body language made us feel unwelcome to a tee. No smile, slamming forks/knives on the table like just really cold vibes, didn't even acknowledge my child and take his order😳. We're all for supporting local and the food is really good but I hope next time we come, sorry I don't wanna be served by her. The Asian guy with the glasses, ka pai to him because he was lovely and served our group well. UPDATE 16/01/22: We came back with a family group last night and our waiter and waitress did an excellent job serving our group. Please let them know, they did an excellent job and appreciate their service. The young man with the accent and the young woman who was on serving, sorry don't know their names but keep up the good work it'll be people like them who will keep us coming back & because of them my rating goes back up plus meals again were really delicious as usual as well my frozen strawberry daiquiri 😋👍🏾⭐

Normally would give a 5 . Been regular customer for lunch for a few years now. They serve good value and quality lunches for those of us office workers in city. But, due to the relaxing of staff over past few weeks wearing a mask properly on their face serving tables, won’t be going back. I asked one of the waitstaff why she and other staff were wearing masks on their chin and she was not at all happy I asked!

Came in just to play pool. Staff were attentive and friendly. Tables could do with some love though, markings on tables warn off, and there was a hole in one of the pockets on the table we played on, so the balls would just fall on the floor

We were impressed by how friendly the staff was. When we entered, we were promptly greeted by the waitress with a friendly smile. We ordered fish and chips, and chicken parmigiana. We didn’t have to wait for long. The fish was blue cod - super fresh, crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The chicken was soft and succulent. It came with the most delicious mushroom sauce. The mains also came with ample chips and salad. I’m impressed by the high quality of the food served.The waitress also came to check that our food was to our liking several times. She served us cold water with ice which we much appreciated as it was a hot day. She took the initiative to refill our jug when it was empty. We really enjoyed the yummy food and the pleasant ambience. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. .

Tasty good sized meal, every1 smiled when serving us, special request when it came to desert. Happily made it happen. Polite n friendly atmosphere. Coffee cups need to be bigger n manlier! Was a teaspoon sided coffee!!! Suggest u go enjoy it for yaself :)

Really nice place to have breakfast (I loved the pancakes) and dinner (the chicken parmigiana is amazing). My husband and I enjoy a lot going to The Rockpool Bar. It's also a great place to watch some games, play pool and have a nice beer.

Double edged sword here guys but lovely place great atmosphere, bartenders are genuinely good but seems to be miscommunication in management between bartenders and bouncers , they are not singing off the same page although it is a confusing time would like for them to be atleast on the same note. Very good service. Poor information handed down to security guards.

Couldn’t barely remember but was a chill and fun environment to hang out with nice pool and friendly staff. Had fun with a new found friend, like you can meet and greet new people and have fun on a boring Friday or Saturday evening or any night that suits you. Suitable for family, lovers, even singles to just indulged in and have dinner or beers and just enjoy life as it is short! 🤟🏼

Excellent service, freindly staff! Had the big breakfast and was absolutely delucious, the sausage from a local butcher was devine! Everything down to the tomatoes on the vine was such a fresh and tasty experience.

I rated this as a 5 for the food but that's all. The Thai/Asian girl that served us would be the rudest waitress we have come across. Chewing gum with mouth open as she takes our order. Reaches over us to take the spare cutlery etc is not acceptable. Has no customer service skills at all. I hope when we come next time she dies not serve us

Loved it. The distinguish gentleman at the entrance was very charming and convinced us to enter the restaurant and bar. Absolutely worth it. Food was great, service was awesome definitely want to come back when we return to Christchurch.

Cool bar with great music and nice atmosphere. My rump steak was perfectly cook and not tough at all. Portion for ribs was big and it’s super yummy! A big jar of nicely brewed dark beer for only $10. You can even play pool here. Highly recommend!

Your experience in Rockpool would actually depend on when you go. Being in the heart of the city it is a bustling wee bar so pick your days right. Service has always been good in my opinion and the bouncers would only give you issues if you behave like an idiot. Definitely a place we go regularly.

Really nice pub. Had an inexpensive pub lunch here. Irish stew and pizza. We both liked it. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly, helpfull staff. We came back later thru the back door as the thunderstorm surprised us. Great Irish Coffees. Really like the interior of the place. Also they have a pinball machine! RocknRoll! Will definitely come again if I'm ever back to Christchurch.

We had lunch at THE ROCKPOOL three times, we had the 259g Crispy Skinned Salmon on our 1st visit, 250g Premium Rib Eye Steak & Tiramisu with fresh whipped cream on our 2nd visit and the 250g Rockpool Steak Special on the 3rd visit. All our meals were cooked to perfection. Thank you Cintia & Emma for your great service. THE ROCKPOOL has a lovely bar and fireplace were you can enjoy a glass of wine.

Really good place to play pool on a quiet afternoon, food is really tasty and well priced but I’d avoid this place on a Friday/Saturday night, it gets pretty messy in there and the dance floor is really small and in the way of the pool tables and the bar. Smoking area is pretty good for 2021 they have seats, heaters and good shelter. The price of drinks are pretty standard.

I feel it's the best place in terms of quality of food, reasonable rate,good atmosphere, good layout and interior,friendly staff. You will get very good deals every day for food and drinks. Coffee is also available. Different types of seating arrangements are there. Pool also there. There is a lift available to go directly to micky irish pub from this rockpool. Considering the quality and cost, I rate this place is one of the top place in Christchurch. Good for family, friends and stags.

We were staying at the Novotel and as we were strolling around trying to find a place to grab dinner, we chanced upon Rockpool Bar. We had their Homemade Flat Bread-it was aaaawesome👍, Rockpool Ribs-drooool, they got polished off in no time & Apple Crumble-soooo divine....we realised we had started devouring the ribs & dessert and had forgotten to take pictures of it... Glad we went there....friendly staff....great service...amazing food....fabulous recommendation of their local Cantebury wine & great music....perfect, for winding up our holiday😊

Just had lunch here with friends & will definitely be coming back again soon. If you are looking for a nice tasty meal, that is pretty reasonably priced, then do check out this place. I had the vegetarian pizza & it was delicious!! One of my friends had the pasta lunch option & the others had the open steak sandwich. All options looked really tasty & price wise were $15ea. Our meals came out quite quickly as well! Overall, really impressed with this place, the bar staff were very friendly and with it being a little quieter we could pretty much sit were we liked.

One time one of the bouncers accused my friend of being on ketamine (horse tranquilliser) weirdly specific accusation but I understand the bouncers always have to be paranoid to be sure there isn't people who are on drugs. And to be fair my friend does look very similar to a horse. Apart from that the rock pool is a nice place to get a cheap pool table and drink beers, they have food items however I only ever tried the chips which were delicious although I was intoxicated so my senses may have been altered. Overall this place is basically the only pool bar to go to in Christchurch that is most likely to have tables available. The slate room might but they also could be holding a filthy dnb gig so just go to the rock pool just to be safe.

Although once we were in it was ok I didn't appreciate the attitude of the door supervisors. Looking me up and down, both got right in my face before asking if I wanted to come in. You wouldn't be the only one to think 'RockPool' (as the kids say) is a rustic ol' pool bar which gets painted red in the devil's hour of a Saturday night. Initially, I too thought this, until I stumbled across the most impressive breakfast deal. Get this; 2 Slices of Buttery Toasted Ciabatta, Eggs your way (I like em scrabbled), a few slices of streaky bacon AND a barista brewed coffee (e.g. Flat White/2 sug) all for only $10!!! Unreal stuff. Friendly staff and the chef works quick too!

Booked for birthday celebration and couldn't have picked better. Great variety of food to meet even the fussiest tastes and all budgets. Waitress was exceptional with great sense of humor giving us a hard time but in a respectful way. I organized to drop off a cake earlier in the day and they bought that out on cue with no forkage charge. Nothing was a problem and would thoroughly recommend it.

Great atmosphere, staff are fantastic, foods great and the drinks menu has a variety. I recommend the tea pot. It's filled with alcohol and you get mini shot glasses with it to serve with friends. This is a great place to play pool as well. You'll find a lot of pool tables and heaps of people playing.

Their $10 breakfast special of Bacon, Eggs on Cibatta bread with a coffee is about as good as you can get. Spent just 3 days in Christchurch and we have been there 3 times, twice for breakfast and once for an early dinner. If you like Pool they have a lot of tables. House Gin and Tonic was better than some fancier bars 50m away.

Both the rock pool and the next door Irish pub are part of the same complex and share a menu. I recommend heading into the Irish half of you want a meal, it's typically a bit quieter and had excellent furniture. Foods good, in a big hearty meal way and the service is great.

14/12/2018 - I went there with my colleagues to have lunch. I ordered a ceasar salad and a few pints of lager. The food was good, creamy (cheesy) and nice. I have no complaints about the food. Good portion size. From my and my colleagues perspectives, the staff that served us were not very enthusiastic. Would I go back? Maybe. 🙄 I've bumped up the rating to 3 stars because of the food but they need to improve their customer service skills like smiling and be friendly the patrons. After all, we are paying customers, and not a freeloader. 26/07/2018 - I decided to get my lunch this afternoon by trying it out and I ordered a beer battered fish burger with chips. And guess what? It was not bad. But I can see how they made it; just put two small pieces of battered fish, two tomato slices, a few salad leaves and topped it off with a tartare sauce. Simple and nice but slightly expensive ($18). Mostly matured patrons, and no kiddo. Would I go back? Maybe. 🙄 Food: ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. It was not bad 😐. Ambience: ⭐ ⭐⭐ out of 5. Don't expect too much. It is a bar and will be noisy. Price: ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Standard bar prices. September 2015 - Plenty of people in the evening and at night. Very noisy and is hard to make a conversation. Mostly young people (early 20s) and some appears to be drunk. Bar and lounge areas are at the front while the pool tables are at the back. It is quiet during the day. Bar food was ok but I had better elsewhere. Would I go back? Maybe during the day but not at night. Overall experience: Below average

Good central location with good lunchtime deals ($10) - however, none for vegetarians. Menu good and reasonably priced. Service OK and staff friendly despite having to wait nearly 30 mins for the food to arrive especially as it didn't appear to me particularly busy. Teapots are great, kinda pricey though considering the price of cocopellis teapots and Coco are only a tiny bit smaller and half the price. The guys working the bar are also really nice too. Can be very loud on weekdays, when local DJs come and play sets, which are sometimes not too bad, however the atmosphere of an eatery/pool hall is lost with the ear splitting drum and bass. Food is good and staff is friendly which makes up for it

Went there for lunch today, I got the Nachos, was ok apart from the long dark hair that was in my meal! None of the staff came over to ask how everything was, or clear our table when they walked past and saw we were finished. I entered the Rockpool around 2330 hours as the rest of town was just too much of a pop top 20 nightmare with 20 year old kids thinking the world owes them something just because mummy and Daddy have given them the Credit Card for the night. I approached the bar to be rewarded with a Tui Lager, the drum and base was definitely complimenting the patronage, some great doormen had control of the situation so I felt very safe also the barmaid were lovely. I recommend this bar to decompress from life's hassles or if you want to meet somebody new and there's pokies too
