Volstead is a great place for a pint of beer. The authentic beer atmosphere is amazing! A selection of interesting beers, and the types to choose from are constantly changing. When we went there were at least 20 kinds of beer available to enjoy at any time. The atmosphere is interesting.

Dank vibes, nice selection of tap brews and comfy leather couches will have you sitting smoother than a pint of Thors Hammer on a hot day 🔥

Had an oyster stout and the best jalapeno poppers I've had outside Mexico. Great smoosh leather couches and toasty warm and best of all DOG FRIENDLY!!!....

Please don't go here, otherwise you'll all know the secret of this niche venue! Wonderful service combined with such a chilled out atmosphere. My friend said she felt like she was in another country! So to get your international travel vibe you could head to Volstead and try their perfectly delicious sav blanc on tap with a scrumptious snack - well, that's what I had anyway.

Beers and service 5 stars. Needs more (any) bike parking! Right by the park and they don't have any. Help a brother out and avoid drink driving.

Without question my favourite comfy place to mooch with excellent beer and have good conversation. Clientele are relaxed and friendly, as are the staff - also super helpful and great on recommendations. Lots of interesting beers to choose from, so flights are great if you can't decide (like me!).Been coming here for a good 8 years and the onion rings and poppers are still the greatest.

Fantastic range of beers, interesting decor, friendly efficient staff, delicious chilli squid (nicely hot chilli in the accompanying sauce, not on the squid). Nice open feel, plenty of space, comfy couches, OK prices. Could have done with a light above the corner we were in, and possibly just a fraction warmer, but overall an absolutely excellent place, I wish I knew about it sooner. We will definitely be back.

In a tilt slab square box with roller doors they have made a reasonably good job of creating a spot that middle aged couples can drink craft beer. Unfortunately it is not Bohemian enough to be cool and not cool enough to be cool. But it's ok.

This is the top place to get real, genuine craft beer in Christchurch. I bring friends and family visiting Christchurch here, and bring dates here too. It's lounge style, quiet enough to have a conversation but has great atmosphere.

Great craft beer place with a cosy atmosphere. Volstead are now selling their own brew on tap, which has limited the number of guest beers available. Unfortunately the beer selection and variety used to be better a few years back. Food isn't too bad for not having a large kitchen available but wouldn't recommend for a meal.

This was a great find. Very eclectic furniture and surroundings supported by an excellent and extensive range of craft beers. The rotation of beer available on tap means you just have to return. The service is always good and staff are very knowledgeable. Food is very tasty though slightly limited in variety. Love this place.

An excellent pub with excellent staff. Great craft beer menu that changes very often, so you're bound to find something you like. Great food with lots of variety from burritos to burgers and good vegetarian food too. Overall ambience is great and a definite big plus on the couches which creates a very comfortable layout and welcoming environment.

Very relaxed and casual if you like Craft beer and the meeting is not confidential come on down, if you want a quiet space that is private it is open plan style better for a group to gather relax and solve the world or rugby teams problems than a quiet place to get to know the girl. Not bad curly fries either.

This is a great place for a craft beer. The inside has heaps of comfy seating with couches and arm chairs. There is a nice "outdoor" area with plastic sides that come down in bad weather. The choice of craft beers is always changing and the food is really yummy at very reasonable prices. Had the chilli lime squid and it was cooked to perfection.

One of the best craft beer pubs in Christchurch. Fantastic rotation of beers and brilliant cocktails. The food is also good. Service if friendly and knowledgeable and questions and samplers are encouraged. Cozy couch and coffee table seating adds to the relaxed atmosphere.

A good little spot, chilled out vibe, eclectic furnishings and generally friendly bar staff. Usually a decent selection of beers on, some weeks better than others. But, be warned - you'll need a good few bucks in your bank account before having any kind of session here!

Love it. Comfy chairs, big open space with high ceilings so even when it’s busy you can still chat. Loads of areas to park up your bike and some fantastic beers. Staff are nice, not in your face but will chat about beers if you fancy. Last time i was in I had an espresso sour, wouldn’t recommend this! There’s an Epic take over some time in January I think, should be fantastic.

Great little speak easy nestled away from the main road and next to a micro brewery. This bar specialises in unique and wonderful craft beers both on tap and in the bottle. Find a seat and experiment with your taste buds, there is something for everyone. Excellent selection of gin and whisky.

A casual bar with a relaxed atmosphere. Great craft beer selection. Food from the food truck is delish but difficult to eat when sitting on a low couch leaning over a coffee table. We weren't given side plates which made sharing a meal a little awkward.

Brewery pub set up in the wake of the Christchurch earthquakes that now has a regular clientele of locals and overseas expats. Built in a converted garage unit with mix and match furniture this pub has a unique atmosphere. Knowledgeable and friendly staff serve from a large selection of locally brewed and imported beer. Open throughout the day with live events on some evenings.

The best watering hole in town for a quiet drink and simple but delicious food

A wonderful bar, full of rugged but oh so comfortable furniture which adds to the whole experience. Great murals and excellent tasting craft beers complete the picture. Only need to bring yourself and some good company!

Excellent bar with great staff. Plenty of craft beer on tap which changes every week. Lots of events for different beers. Also does wine. Nive looking place with excellent ambiance, i love the giant curtains. Place gets busy on friday nights so best to get in early. Otherwose plenty of seats.

This is my first time in Christchurch and I loved it here.. great collection of tap beers and food was good. It's a bit experience compared to Auckland but I think that's how it's going to be in South island..

Wow. If you like eclectic surroundings and excellent beer this is the place. Don't expect a pub-restaurant but the food is very good. Excellent staff with good knowledge of beer offerings. I WILL be back.

Volstead is an amazing place with comfy chairs, great selection of beers with knowledgeable staff to match. It has a good selection of flavourful food that is made via a outdoor caravan kitchen. Definitely a great place for all occasions and meet ups

Awesome fella on the bar, comfortable relaxed environment with lounge like areas to chill with a group or a few friends and a great selection of booze! Beers ok. On average they were average. If you like trying beer, with stopping to explore beer culture. If not into beers, then there are better watering holes

This used to be the best craft beer establishment in New Zealand. Unfortunately the beer is pricey and they are pushing their own brew (understandably).

Great atmosphere. Great getaway! What an awesome little gem in the middle of Riccarton. The beer selection is phenomenal and the staff are jot only friendly, but informative. What a great place to relax and enjoy some social time with a friend(s), and why not have some nibbles while you're there from their light menu. Good food. Good drinks. Good service. Good company. What more could you ask for?! 👍
