An eclectic café and bar in Moray place Dunedin has great vibes, coffee, and selection of cabinet food. Well used armchairs in the window are a great place to enjoy your coffee. Also seating outside on a hot day…

I travelled all the way around the western side of the south island and thank God I found this place. Best coffee on the south island bar c1 and c4 in Christchurch and the breakfast was amazing!!! I always have a wonderful time at the dogs with two tails. Great for going out with friends and also a great place to go to for a date night. The music, 10/10; jazzy vibes and live music are what make the bar awesome. The drinks, 9/10; great diversity in drinks and food. Might be a bit pricy. The staff, 8/10; staff is friendly.

Excellent vegan cinnamon bun. Staffer who brought the food, and staffer who brought drinks were both cordial. Cafe manager who took order was chilly. I ordered a long black which arrived cool. Almost spat first sip out as utterly acidic, and vile. To be fair, I did not talk to staff about it. If you order a menu item in any cafe, and you detest the item, is that just something the consumer needs to accept, or does one politely point out ones displeasure? I've never known the answer to this, so the 4 or 5 times it's happened in my lifetime, I've just stayed quiet. The cafe delivered, I just hated what it. What's the proper protocol? Either way, it doesn't matter: entirely too precious staff (except as noted) and vibe. In the future I'll go someplace less self-consciously hip.

Lovely atmosphere. One of my favorite places to go for a nice chat with friends, and has plenty of local gigs and events that are very chill and fill up the room with warmth. Always lovely customer service, and I love the train that circles the ceilings! Thank you stag for the cool spot!

My first experience here was meeting a friend for coffee. The drinks and food were great. My friend was held up so was there for a while before he showed, during this time the staff were friendly and courteous. The atmosphere is great, quill have to get there for one of the music evenings.

This is a lovely quirky place to eat. A small train runs around the upper wall which delights children and adults alike. There are books to read and plenty to look at around the eclectic bar/cafe/restaurant. The cafe's own description says it very well: "Dog With Two Tails is a microcosm of Dunedin. The guests come from all walks, runs and crawls of Dunedin life. It's an eclectic cafe, bar, music venue & art gallery serving creative, healthy and free range food; really, very decent coffee; New Zealand craft beer & single malt whisky. We provide a platform for local and travelling musicians and artists to display/perform their work and we cater for vegetarian and other dietary requirements." I would add to that with the fact they also have quiz nights weekly and it is a great place to go frequent. Many from the arts and Steampunk community frequent there. You feel as if you have not just walked into a restaurant to eat but have fallen down a rather wonderful rabbit hole into another world where you can lose yourself for a while and become one with the place.

There is no way that you can go wrong with a meal here. The crepes are simply delicious...mine with fresh apple and cinnamon. Paired with a long black it was the perfect start to the day. The service was friendly, the atmosphere welcoming and the food incredible...would definitely go back.

Quirky interior. It was interesting watching the train make a round trip around the restaurant. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t worth the wait. My “Buttermilk chicken” was dry and overall, the dish was bland. Portions are huge but didn’t care because I didn’t want to eat it all. I was better off ordering from the cabinet. They might’ve run out of ingredients which would explain the long wait and staff carrying groceries - this was 12:30pm! Coffee was okay. Just based on this visit, I wouldn’t recommend. I’ve also heard similar feedback from friends.

Great place for gigs and events. Always something going on. Curly fries are always good. Deep fried brie is interesting, but maybe a little too intense. Pity the coffee isn't fair trade, but otherwise a good place for an evening out.

They weren’t crepes and I think they should stop calling them that because they’re wafers! For what they were, they should be free. Saving grace was the vegan cinnamon scroll.

This is one of the coolest cafe/restaurants around. Great food, fabulous staff, good coffee 'til late, a library of books, a great events calendar each week, and a train track that runs around the place above your heads. Added to that, it's right in the middle of the city, by the movies - just perfection! 😎

Great little cafe with a bonus surprisingly good whiskey selection. Was slightly disappointed by the coffee (on the watery, low-crema side) compared to other cafes in the area, but the food was good and it was just a good spot to hang out for a while and watch the world go by.

We went for breakfast this morning and we loved it. The service is very friendly and professional. The breakfasts are tasty, fresh and well presented. The place is very atmospheric and I would definitely recommend to at least visit it for a drink if you are in the centre of Dunedin.

Poetry open mike night happens once a month on a Tuesday, with local talent and a guest poet or three coming together to share their works to a receptive audience. Liquor licence makes it a popular after-show stop for theatre goers.

Mediocre breakfast and slow service. My wife and I had chosen this place based on reading some of the reviews and were disappointed in both the food and the service. This was our second day in town and our previous breakfast place was much better for a lot less money. There were only 4 other people in the place yet the service was slow for both the coffee and the meal. Not a place to return to unless there is no other option.

(Translated) This café has a very nice ambience and is very centrally located within walking distance of Octagon. The teas are also delicious. The breakfast left a lot to be desired. In addition to hearty things, there are vegan muffins, which I unfortunately didn't like at all. That's why I don't want to deduct a point. The waitresses are very nice and accommodating. Die Tees sind ebenfalls lecker. Das Frühstück lässt aber zu Wünschen übrig. Neben deftigen Sachen finden sich vegane Muffins, Die mir leider überhaupt nicht geschmeckt haben. Deshalb will ich aber keinen Punkt abziehen. Die Bedienungen sind sehr nett und entgegenkommend. Vielleicht organisiert man sich auch ein paar Frühstückssachen. Achtung 15.00 Uhr wird dicht gemacht.
