D.Two star experience, with the third star for the host at the start. She was great, really made us feel welcome but sadly she wasn't there for the last half of our time there. After she had gone service was barely existent, plates and glasses weren't cleared away and we had to go to the bar for any further drinks. Steaks weren't very big, were rare instead of medium and had large bits of gristle. It was placed along with the chips onto the salad which itself wasn't dressed so I ended up with plain warm lettuce. Could have done with more gravy too.
S.From being seated to receiving mains there was at max a half hour wait. Even with it being rather busy staff were still super friend and helpful.
Food was beautiful as normal.
Had the desert special- berry and chocolate tart, you ever hear a song for the first time and it sends shivers down your spine because it's just that good? Yeah. It was like that.
P.Speights Ale House is a great pub and the food is awesome and good value for money. It has a great feel inside and very warm and comfortable. The steaks and ribs are really good and the cheesecake is a 10/10. The Speights Brewery Shop next door is worth a visit too.
A.I definitely give five stars to the garlic bread loaf here. It's seriously highly addictive. I love the modern rustic ambience here. I have noted these orchid flowers with their long stems were rolled into a coil placed in a rose bowl. The floral arrangement looks so elegent.
Staff are friendly and smiley. Service was attentive. Food with a good value. Will absolutely come back again.
C.Great atmosphere and meals are spot on all the time. Rattray Street ribs are delish and always a family favourite and of course a great selection of Speights beers on tap.
H.It is the right place to get the taste of the old Speights Brewery if you can’t work out the right time for the tour.
The interior design nightlights the old industry style, all the original collections here take you go back into the old brewery factory.
A.Nice to visit. The taste of beer is great. We got ribs, soup, and sausages . The sauce of ribs were great and I loved it, but the meat was a bit dry. I am not sure if they intend or not. Someone liked others didn't. Sausages was so yummy. They have 'Today's soup' I had pumpkin and coconut. I actually didn't like it that much since there were many spices which I don't like. Others loved it though. Food was inexpensive and the atmosphere was nice. I am willing to visit here again and have a tour for the brewery next this.
A.All our food was superb, busy night but still found a table for us. Great desserts too

G.We had a fantastic time with a brilliant atmosphere. Huge meals and quite tasty, with the matched beers. The only distraction was being seated on the lower level, when tables were being moved around on the upper level and caused a lot of noise.
P.Speights Ale House ... great house brewed beer and food. We tried the ribeye steak, the venison and the highland lamb - all very good.
The best is still the mud cake dessert with chocolate sauce that is so chocolatey and the sweetness is just right with a bit of bitterness from the thick chocolate sauce - great.
Also tried their golf medal beer and old dark, both taste are super.

C.Great lunch, great service, great beer. I did the 8 glass tasting and that was a little much for a lightweight like me. Easily could have shared with a friend. The bangers and mash we're perfect and matched with my favorite beer ... The IPA. It's a great afternoon at the Speights Ale house

So I came into Dunedin speights for a meal thanks to Sam Harpur during my busy pool tournament and was very impressed, the staff were very well presented, polite, knowledgeable and welcoming. T.Take payments of all kind - not just cash only. Great food and wide selection of drinks. Has a sit down area and also a general bar area with tables and comfortable seating options. Nice place to sit and have a pint or two.
B.Ribeye steak was 10/10 cooked perfectly. Wish the roasted veges had a bit more flavour/ crispness to them

This traditional alehouse has a great atmosphere and the beer is excellent and reasonably priced. The food is very good and even though the restaurant was busy it came out very quickly. The service is great - the staff are very attentive!

The restaurant was full of people on Wednesday night and there was no available seat for 2. However, we sat at the bar table and still enjoyed the meals.

R.A nice atmosphere and acceptable food. Staff were friendly and showed some initiative. The sole fillet I had was very tasty and possibly a little over cooked. The accompanying salad and fried potato halves were uninspiring and looked and tasted like they were made off site and brought in. A pleasant meal at reasonable value but typical of restaurant chain food with uninspiring accompaniments to the main portion of the dish. The triple hop pilsner quencher was the highlight.

L.Good place for a big group, had the set menu of main and dessert and you definitely got your money's worth. Staff were all friendly and very accommodate to dietary requirements. Definitely recommend.

Good service. The biggest down side of this place is the rubbish acoustics. When it is anywhere over half full normal conversation with fellow guests is just about impossible. It is all very well trying to make the restaurant look old and industrial but a proper acoustic ceiling would not change that look but make the dining experience much more pleasant. I have only ever been there for organized big group dinners. I would NEVER consider this place for dinner if I could choose despite the quality of the food

R.Came here for dinner after a long day. Wednesday night so not very busy. We sat in some large comfortable booths. The meals are very big so I recommend getting the smaller size if there is an option to do so. I had lamb shanks, friend had the ribs. Both meals did not disappoint. Staff very friendly. Relaxed atmosphere.

F.The lamb was delicious and the Blue Cod lightly battered was finger-licking good. We’re hooked on Speights Ale Houses! Great staff, friendly and helpful.We did the 8 samples beer tasting. The samples were very large, well labeled and described. Our dinners were HUGE and very tasty. We sat by the fire in the corner, which was perfect for our small group. Very delightful meal.

A.The portions are generous, and a fantastic value for the price. Definitely the best ribs in any Dunedin restaurant, however every meal I've tried here is made to a very high standard. The atmosphere is also pleasant, though it can sometimes get loud on rugby nights.

M.Great setting and comfortable atmosphere. The staff are super nice and attentive. Had the 8 taste sampler of the suds on offer here. Simply terrific. There's good reason that they call it gold medal ale, definitely worthy of a gold medal or two. The bread made fresh in house is the perfect ratio of crusty and soft bready goodness. Wish these wonderful tasty ales were available stateside, but definitely worth a flight halfway around the world for a second go!
y.I'd like give a prize somebody picked this bread for the chowder. Although I'm not big fan of seafood chowder, it was really tasty.

M.first time coming to the ale house, and was so impressed, warm and welcoming staff who were very attentive, the meals were great, big plates of very tasty food, i had the shanks, and my partner had the ribs. the only thing i would have liked was a more sauce on the shanks but it certainly wasn't a deal breaker, i will be back for more meals!

P.2 beef sirloins and a couple of beers. Steaks were cooked well and were nice and juicy, chips were ok, accompanying veggies and salad again ok. Only minor gripe is that the serve of gravy was pretty megre and was on the food when it arrived whereas I would have preferred it in a small jug so I could put it where I wanted. Overall it's a nice place with a good range of beers to suit different tastes and I would probably go back if I was in town again.

D.Meh. The Speights' Ale House has definitely gone downhill and is not a patch on the similar-styled Lonestar. We've been there a couple of times recently. The ribs are very good, as are the side salads but the rest is pretty average. Last time we went, I ordered the steak and onion pie which was notable in that it contained no meat whatsoever. To their credit, the staff were very good and offered me another meal and didn't charge me for the pie. The menu is overall uninspiring and the deserts are well below average. Nice atmosphere, but nothing special from the food perspective.
T.We had the ribs and kumara fries and both were great But and good sized portion. Our group all agreed the kumara fries were the best we had ever had.

A.I had the Spare Ribs of which u were give a towel so as to eat with you fingers but u also dot a good handful of salad which Is my the easiest finger food, maybe more chips or loaf

r.Good brews and drink choices but the food was average to below average compared to the several options available in town and through our travels in NZ. It’s ok if expectations are managed appropriately. It is after all an Ale house.

J.Cannot fault the service. Good fish for my companions BUT I had a tough dry old lamb shank for lunch. Tasty veggies and gravy. I complained and received a nice apology. Apparently I may have got one leftover from the previous evening's service. Excuse me?!?! Last night's dinner!?!? Well I never... Not good enough.

A.Really sorry to have to say this but for an iconic brand like speights the food was very average I do realise you had a very busy weekend with pink in town but the Blue and Gold for $31 was as over cooked as it was over priced
