Ordered Lamb Shanks and Vegetables. The meat was beautiful, tender and the meat just fell off the bone 🍖 So good!!
Very helpful restaurant staff and awesome very polite young man serving drinks in the bar. Lovely establishment 👍🏽😊

My son & I went for dinner on the 22 Dec. Staff were Friendly, and the service was spot on. I was very impressed by how the staff interacted with my (very busy) four-year-old son. These interactions made him feel welcome and set the stage for a pleasant evening. The Meals we ordered were delicious. The Roast beef was the highlight. It was tender, and the homemade gravy was true to its name. We are looking forward to our next visit.

We really enjoyed our visit to this iconic Dunedin pub. Friendly staff, great selection of wines and beers, and the food is very good. This was a great find. We had the roast beef, beautiful delicious beef, full veges and lashings of gravy. Wow! Beef was tender, served with horseradish sauce too, and veges perfectly cooked. Generous servings, piping hot, washed back with an Emerson’s Pilsner. 2 X huge Roasts, glass of chardonet, pint of beer = $60! Unbeatable. Highly recommended. (They do roast of the day every day).

Basic rooms but clean and good service. Handy to have the bar downstairs (+pokies). As central to Dunedin as you can be.

Went for lunch and catch up with friends. Place was pretty empty so got seats easy and served prompt. It was a pretty god selection of food and I got the fish and chips. Battered fish. It was relly good. The others got weiner schnitzel. They said it was good. Also a good selection of drinks in the bar which you just take through to your food.

Very well priced, spacious accommodation in the central city. Close to the Octagon. Staff were lovely and helpful. There is also parking on site which is a bonus. There was paint peeling in the shower cubicle and the bathroom is in need of updating but it was clean so not a major for us.

Rooms are as expected for an elderly pub setting. Rescued by the excellent food and staff service. And the pricing of meals is very good. e.g. Full cooked top notch brekkie plus endless coffee and juice for $19. Didn't get to sample lunch but I'm sure it is great eating too.

Our room was a bit shabby - the bathroom particularly so. It was clean, just old and worn. Had to walk through the pub to access the lfts - makes you feel an intruder. I chose the place because of its central location. Pub patrons had taken all the car parks so had to park on the street. Drunks on the street woke me in the night. It wasn't bad, just a bit souless and depressing.

We didn't stay , we had a meal. The meals used to always great value but yesterday meal was about half the size .We decided to buy a coffee and a tea .the taste of chlorine was so bad neither of us could drink these so we talked to the staff and was told this is how it comes out of the machine .( someone has to put the water in the machine so it can come out )so we went to the bar and said how had it was and was told .I don't drink anything here.so we bought an fruit juice .When I lived in Dunedin I learn the importance of making sure we never used water from the hot tap and always ran the water until the smell of chlorine was gone .We have for years made this place, a place to stop in the city for a meal .Not sure that we can do that as there are better places to spend $40

Clean and room even if a little dated, great location for walking to restaurants and museum.
The bar underneath closes at 10:30pm so no noise, no major traffic noise overnight either. Ear plugs were provided too.
No air con in the room but a tower fan was provided which was much needed.
Free parking available too.

Fantastic price point for a super central location with free parking. Clean, warm rooms and a very comfortable bed. Lovely old art deco building and friendly staff.

I booked my stay here from Australia for 6 nights. Because my plane didn't get in to Dunedin until 9pm, they gave me a pass-code to enter the premises which I just thought was great! Very convenient for a late arrival and it meant I didn't need to worry about getting back early every night before the doors were locked. The staff here are amazing. Very friendly and so helpful. They delivered a parcel to my room when it arrived and kept the room tidy and refreshed every day. The Atmosphere is great and fun loving, a lot of laughter from inside. I felt so comfortable returning every day/night after sight seeing and spending time with my family. I am definitely going back when I'm next in Dunedin

Enjoy stopping by for a pub meal here. Prices aren't the cheapest but staff are nice, there is a TAB machine, pokie room, tv's and good selection of beer wine and spirits. If you don't like the noise in the pub area there is a restaurant seating area also.

Amazing shower, nice clean and comfy living room. Beds were very comfy. Great service, upstairs and downstairs. The only thing I do need to say is that your lift is a bit dangerous, I do understand that it is an old building. I did get hid by it a few times. But other than that, everything was great and I will be coming back.

Food was good and generous. Clean and tidy and well placed on the plate. Something on the menu for every taste and diet. Lovely old world atmosphere with lots of history photos of early Dunedin. Service was good but seemed a bit stressed.

Great food accommodating staff which was appreciated but my Mum fresh out of hospital, my sister while holding my infant and twice myself were hit by the lift door!
Room was good considering we were needing short notice accommodation for an extra person And it was stressful circumstances. So very much appreciate your help. 3rd floor didn't hear a peep of noise

Loved it here, beds are comfy, suites are nice, staff are friendly, and the whole building has style. Didn't get to eat at the restaurant downstairs but it smelled and looked amazing. The bar has good drink prices, too. Also loved my heated mattress pad!

Really enjoyed our stay here! The rooms - while pretty standard - were tidy with comfortable beds and cosy blankets. Exactly what we needed for a quick stopover.
We also had dinner in the pub downstairs, the meals were well sized and priced.
It’s not luxury but it’s friendly comfort - I’d stay again!

Lovely piece of Dunedin history. Very clean and comfortable. Plenty of room for us. The cleaners were awesome and very hospitable. The parking was a bit of an issue. As we were staying for a week I think we should have had a permanent park instead of taking our chances with restaurant and bar guests. Several times we ended up having to park on the street in paid parking. Most of the staff were very nice but there were a couple who gave the impression that they couldn't be bothered. There was no sky tv only ordinary tv so there was not much viewing when we had down time. It was close to walk to so many things which was so handy. Overall we did have a nice stay.

Central, very comfortable, spacious and clean.
Cool old skool pub at the bottom of the lift Didn't eat at the in pub restaurant.
I'd stay here again.

The high quality of meals is consistent. Very enjoyable and affordable family dining out. Excellent service.

Would be a 5 star but the outdated decor had to bring it down one sorry. The food is a 10/10 for tasty, value for money, perfectly cooked pub food though. Obviously not a place for fine dining but you definately get your money's worth here. Service was friendly but unintrusive, chef did a great job running solo with all meals looking consitantly well presented.. a hidden gem right near centre city. Great venue for taking families or children and would be good for large groups as the dining room is split into two sections for privacy. We ordered beef schnitzelm and roast pork. Both $18, both perfectly cooked and presented well and both very hard to finish all of ! Menu had a good variety of something for everyone and we cant wait to return to try the rest!

Had no idea they had a staged venure here....was great loved it small intimate and food n drinks

Comfy beds, warm rooms, free wifi, pub and bar downstairs with nice craft beer on tap. Only real negative was The shower had low pressure and the temperature was hard to control, room 202 if the owners care to look into it.

Great place to stay. Fabulous meals & the staff could do enough for us. Location in town & carparking next door so handy. Looking forward to returning for another stay this Saturday.

A great place to stay in a historical city.. the rooms are well presented an have been upgraded an clean
Of course the bar is everything you want it to be .. the restaurant serves a decent meal and you can be sure your belly will be full.. and for the pokie fans a good selection

Have spent a few nights in the bar and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The staff are very friendly and make everyone feel welcome. Recently dined in the restaurant and found the meals to be well made and at a price that didn't break the bank.

The single room I had was more than adequate for me, as it had everything a bloke would ever require. Heating was good, the road noise was minimal and the shower was fantastic. Good stay all round

Good value. Handy to town. Room clean and tidy. Tired shower, water pressure/temp awful.

The restaurant was great, WiFi a bit lacking in my room but other areas fine. Room was small but had everything you need. Staff helpful and friendly. Overall enjoyed the stay.

Good location! Within walking distance of many places, including a super short walk to the Cadbury factory and the railway station! Our room was excellent, though it was a bit cold by the windows (and there were many windows).

Friendly spot to have a drink. We stayed here for one night and enjoyed it. Love the look and feel of the bar! The room was nice and clean. It is also well situated in the center of town with parking included.

Buildings of this age have plumbing, electrical and acoustics issues. So expect it. Overcoming this are it’s central location, the convenience of the bistro and bar down stairs, comfy beds and extremely helpful and happy staff. Overall a good experience.

The design of the single room I stayed at was a bit small & out of date but nevertheless reasonably comfortable. The location was convenient with its own restaurant/bar inside the hotel. It’s a great hotel to stay if you’re traveling on the budget.

Welcoming hotel with some delightful Art Deco features inside the building. I was part of a large party where we had buffet breakfast. Room was a bit dated but clean and comfortable
A. D. F.
Pros: central location, cheap, good Wi-Fi. Cons: seriously dated, stuffy, common areas have a strange off-putting smell, bathroom was dingy, shower looks old and dark. Not too noisy from the street but when opening the room window I could hear the people next door take a shower and converse so clearly it seemed they were in the same room. I felt as if I were unintentionally intruding in their privacy
D. H.
Great location, bit noisy at night but handy to what we wanted. Overall OK

The most beautiful Hotel to stay. I give it way more stars if I could. Clean clean clean. Helpful staff and a grand old lady of the Deco period. My only choice when we go to Dunedin. **********
