P.It's always a pleasure being able to call in to the tavern for a nice cold ale. The most stunning views, a real relaxed vibe and some interesting people. If you are lucky you may even get treated to a sing along.
R.Stopped here for fish and chips Sunday 23rd. Was fresh and fast. Absolutely lovely chef in the kitchen. Clean toilets, great view.

R.The staff were very friendly and the food was well presented and awesome. The only downside is the wait was almost 40 minutes and pricey for bar meals. A can of sprite was $5 or $6 for a 1.5 litre. Our meals came to $68.00

C.Great service and beautiful fresh food. Worth the 2.5 hour drive from home. Definitely recommend. Already planning to go back with the kids and stay in units once the weather warms up and enjoy another meal or 2.

A.Had not been back to the coast in a few years, Te Puka is certainly my go to spanning Tokomaru Bay to Ruatoria hands down the best kai and atmosphere around. We camped at Te Puia Springs hotel for the weekend but always destined to pop in here for a delicious meal, love the place it's my home neighborhood (Waipiro Bay) ... top location, top food, top service ... nga mihi

K.Wow what a fantastic place to stay, four beautiful apartments all with their own balcony overlooking the beach. Apartment was lovely, spacious , clean and comfortable. Next door is the Te Puka Tavern a bit of a wait on food but we were told this, burgers were fantastic. Tokomaru is a real slice of quintessential NZ, we sadly only had one night we will be back and plan to stay longer.

S.Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL Kai! Always has been awesome here! My whānau come from Tokomaru Akau so we have had kai here a few times.
However, the start of August 2021, my touring team and I were staying at Te Puia Springs Motel. They decided to shut their kitchen very early from their normal hours despite having 5 of us as potential customers. We hadn't had any dinner and had to hit the road for Ruatoria at 7.45am the next day.
We rang Te Puka Tavern to stay open a little longer for us although it was close to closing time!! They served us, gave us a beautiful kai and the owner was very kind about it. Amazing manaaki-- Thank you so much. Has to be one of the best kai I have ever had on the road so far. Ngā mihi taioreore ki a koutou! We appreciated it dearly <3
Anyone wondering about a kai round Toko-- You won't be disappointed! The food is always spot on here!

S.Lovely little hidden gem. Tavern serves great food, and has four accommodation units consisting of an upstairs double room and a downstairs lounge kitchen with two single beds and a balcony overlooking the sea and beach which is literally just across the road. Can't rate this place highly enough.

s.Basic menu, quality bar food, served in the lounge bar, behind main bar....Tip 1, there is no table service, grab a menu off the bar and sit down, when ready to order, go up to the bar, order and pay for your meals and drinks, then take your buzzer and wait. Tip 2 .... It's says open till whatever time, but it may not be, we went on a Saturday night open till 9pm .... But kitchen closed around 8pm, bar closed around the same time.

L.We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Te Puka Tavern. The food was delicious. Its situated very close to the beach with stunning views of Tokamaru Bay. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside to make the most of the beautiful scenery. What a lovely part of the country!

K.My partner and I have a theory about what the best restaurants in New Zealand are, based on their interior. They tend to be unassuming and non pretentious with an interior of all wood and consists of a billiard table and adornments - like an animal head mounted on the wall. This place has all and was simply delicious. You get what you pay for and so much more. Love!
A.A wonderful place to stop for a thirst quencher. We didn't order food but some kind people at table next to us shared theirs with us, thank you. The views are to die for and the staff very friendly. Tokomaru Bay was just a lovely place to admire while sitting on deck with a cold beer in hand at Te Puka.
