M.A good stop for a clean toilet and toasted sandwich on the western side of Lake Taupo.
We always wanted to stop at this tavern but this is our first time. We'll happily stop again as the food and drink were fine. The Tihoi burger is filling.
The hosts can easily improve the ambience and the reviews: just a friendly smile and a cordial welcome. I suppose this would be a difficult place to run a tavern and perhaps that's why the staff were too taciturn.
P.Great place to stop for a break. Great range of meals. Interesting place! A good read of the local history.
B.Following a few days away this was a great friendly place to stop for a good kiwi toasted sandwich snack. Perfect!!
A.A warm tavern with delicious dishes and good proportions. It is also a free camp and you can park for free for the night.
The first time I came here, I had ordered the $ 29 dish consisting of meat, fish, shrimp skewer and fries. It was the best meal I ate in New Zealand !! I was delighted.
I come back then 6, 7 months later hoping to eat this famous dish again. But I could not have it the evening I came, I was very disappointed, I had made the road to eat this dish.
I ordered the Tihoi Burger instead which was very good.
But the $ 29 dish is just exceptional and worth the trip !!!

S.Saw the lights as we came down the straight not expecting the store to be open..13 May..6.30 pm..Had two of the best burgers ever and at $8.00for a cheese burger and $9.00 I think for a Hawaiian.plus chips and 2 sausages.
Very good value and very hospitable hosts.

K.Came to do a truck swap, they were awesome about us parking our trucks there and welcomed us into their tavern. They were all very friendly and hospitable, the tavern is beautifully decorated with a very good vibe about the place. So if you're in the area i definitely recommend calling in for a chat and a drink.

Kitchen had just closed so we had pizza.
While waiting I asked if they had any marshmallows for a bonfire we never ended up having.
The lovely lady serving us only had a big bag but gave us half for free , even declining payment.
Pizzas were served and were delicious, beers nice and cold.

C.Awesome out of the way little tavern a road we had to use as a detour when travelling to Auckland. As we were expecting to be able to fill our vehicle in Taupo and get food and drinks it was a stressful situation when we were re-routed on a road we did not know. Long story short - we made an emergency stop and the staff at this tavern were amazing. They helped us out and were so friendly - I would definitely recommend stopping by if ever in the area.

S.The best pub I've ever been to. Great atmosphere, down to earth, friendly hosts. An awesome setup - great bar, great food great prices. Cool as memoribilia especially for fans of hunting, fishing and chainsaws. Gorgeous clean bathroom, pool table and a heated outdoor area for smokers. Wish I could take this classic kiwi pub home with me! A true hidden gem. Thanks so much for your fantastic hospitality 😊
D.Great fish and chips, friendly staff. Cute local tavern out in pretty much the middle of nowhere. The pool table is broken but you can just pull out the ball release and trigger the lever manually for free play. Chainsaws all over the walls and ceiling so be careful with the pool cues if you're going to have a game.

S.Great little place in Tihoi. Considering there is nothing thing else around it, it automatically becomes the local. Regardless the food is great and fantastically priced. Tap beer is available as well as a fully stocked fridge and shelves of spirits/liqueurs. Friendly staff and camping available directly next door.

j.Awesome tavern! Yummy food and really neat people! Ya cant beat a good old country tav,they are as rare as hens teeth now days! Good place to take the family as well. Big garden bar with play ground . Highly recommended!
F.This is The Tavern. Enjoy it! Great food, great beers, great people. If you're travelling, you get free camping at the back and free access to flush toilets. And the best view ever the morning after, surrounded by green hills and free cows.
J.Always a great place to stop on our way back from Mt Ruapehu. Staff are friendly and meals are great, quite large too. There is also a pool table & nice warm fire. Definitely worth trying if you haven't already.
