Loved this place! It's next to the hotel we stayed at so we had our breakfast here which was delicious and coffee was great. It's just got an awesome feel when you're here with super friendly staff, great decor and good food. Definitely recommend coming here 😊

There's so much character in this bar. Felt like a hunting lodge with the roaring fire. Nice big windows to see outside (pity it was too cold to sit outside). What we really liked about it though was the friendly staff. The bar staff were so helpful when we were deciding on wines and they were knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed it so much we stayed for dinner and even meet the chef. Food was hearty and delicious. Can't wait to come back!

Wow we have just left the five stags , . From the moment we arrived to the minute we left, our dining , whole experience was just fabulous. Summit and his lovely staff greeted us . We ordered ribs ,and salmon . Both of which were cooked perfectly. The hospitality rating was more than exceptional, a great range of beverages to accompany the meals. Have just held a conference there. Wonderful facilities. The food was great. The standout for us was the staff/team. So friendly and helpful. Went out of their way to cater for our needs and after look after us. Will certainly be back!

Lovely big restaurant with attached large rooms for events/bookings. They have a good happy hour so for $15 you get a jug and a bar snack, or for $20 you get a jug and a pizza. The beer you can get is limited to macs gold and speight. But they do offer other beers they just not included in the deal

We had booked at the Hanmer Retreat hotel and walked over to the 5 stags which is part of the same complex me and my partner enjoyed our meal and drinks was truely yummy good vibe! we returned the following morning for a continental breakfast only. asked the manager Kamhal if we could have some fried eggs And bacon.. which he said sure not a problem and made them for us truely good service we returned to christchurch on full tummys!!Looking forward to next trip there..

Was very hesitant to visit the restaurant after reading some negative reviews. We had an amazing experience here, and were utterly blown away by the service as well as high quality, tasty food. The chef clearly has attention to detail and is very experienced. We shared the calamari platter with slaw.Wow! The calamari was super tender and the slaw was really tasty too. For mains we had the sirloin steak with veggies, cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Happy hour is between 4-6pm which is handy to know too

This place looks pretty good. The restaurant and bar both have a classic, hunting cabin kind of setting. The outdoor seating is nice, and has a small lawn where kids could play around if they'd like. The staff is pretty friendly and keep checking in when they're available. The food is a little pricey and limited in options, but it is tasty. I'd recommend the Caesar salad.

Absolutely worth a visit! I think they have the only happy hour in town (every day from 4-6), so they get extra points for that...why not grab yourself a $6 beer?? And, I was happy to see vegetarian options. The falafel burger was great. They also have nice outdoor seating options and friendly staff, too.

Rustic ambience just the way we love it. Great share platter (blue cheese sauce needs the packed punch flavour of the cheese that was amiss). Sticky date pudding was nice and warm. The décor just got me. Encore is probably what I would say!

Went there for breakfast and couldn’t fault it. Incredibly friendly helpful staff, very tidy and a lovely atmosphere. Had the eggs Benedict and breakfast burger and both were wonderful. Well cooked and thick slices of salmon with the eggs benny and perfectly cooked with a runny yolk. The breakfast burger was easily the best breakfast I’ve ever had out and will definitely be back.

Large area that is the bar and dining area. Yes, there are 5 stag heads mounted and hung on the wall. Rustic and full of atmosphere. Welcoming staff with a ready smile. Cocktails are yummm. The S & P calamari was a nice entree to share. Tender and tasty. The duck was accompanied with lovely fresh local veggies. And my companions enjoyed it thoroughly. My venison was cooked to perfection, the plum a sweet contrast to the meat. The veggies were firm and tasty. Deserts were a lovely way to finish our meals. Good value, too.

Five Stags Restaurant Hamer Springs is a cosy, friendly and delicious place to spend an evening. The onion rings are superb, and I strongly recommend being there for happy hour, 4-6pm, $6 pints! There's a lovely grassed beer garden out the front with a fantastic view of the mountains in the distance. We ate there in early November and the weather was lovely and there were not many people around. Staff were attentive and conscientious and I would love to eat there again.

We arrived in Hanmer Christmas Eve and we were lucky to get a table at the Stags Christmas lunch, they were the only restaurant open, the food was absolutely yummy and we recommend. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Handy location, we stayed at the hotel next door so was easy to walk back. Would recommend !

Knowing that Hamner Springs right in town would have busy restaurants on Queens Birthday Friday we stopped here on the way in. No regrets. Very nice flavours. Lamb shank and salmon delicious. Turned up and was told that due to the Rugby, they were fully booked for the night. Someone who appeared to be a supervisor did some juggling and squeezed us in. I had the Roast Pork which was pretty good. Little lacking in the Potatoes/Kumara and Pumpkin, seemed to be all broccoli and cauliflower. Everyone had a great night, and the staff were exceptional

Nice decor and the menu looked great. The poor wait staff looked over worked but did a fantastic job. There was an argument or two between the kitchen staff. We ordered fish and chips and a venison burger. Fish and chips were nice. Stay away from the venison burger. It was very dry and no flavour. We won't be going back which is a shame.

Enjoyed a night out here last night, managed to get an early booking for two so we could then enjoy the hot pools after. Booking was made same day, so we appreciated being fit in. Nice relaxed interior, seated in a small section with only 3 tables which meant it wasn't too noisy. Food was enjoyable, but not amazing. The garlic bread was baguette style similar to what could be bought from a supermarket, served with cheese sauce which was its saving grace. My pork belly was OK, definitely needed seasoning and the crackling was soft The steamed veges were delicious. My fiance found his ribs were reasonable. The service was excellent! Very attentive staff.

Came in with no reservation on a Saturday night. Restaurant was full and reserved due to a wedding but was still able to accommodate a family of 5 looking for a decent steak and ribs. Needless to say we were not disappointed. Amazing meal devoured by all. 10 out of 10 for the meal and a 10+ for the service we were shown.

We visited for a conference over a few days and enjoyed catering by the restaurant. Warm venue with awesome views of the mountains. Deck and large windows help to appreciate the special location. Catering staff were great. Fireplace, wood, and Deer mounts made for a warm masculine atmosphere.

We visited the restaurant back in August 2017. We had been to Five Stags in Rangiora and we were impressed so we were looking forward to a good tasty meal. We were a bit disappointed. The welcome and service was very friendly (we were the only customers). The cod and chips were just right, but the chicken cordon-bleu was out of the freezer from the supermarket. Definitely not what we expected. A real let down for a place with a good atmosphere.

Had our wedding reception here. Found out the morning of our wedding that no one new about our reception even though we were in the day before finalising the menu. The staff did step up and sort it out once the father in law had a few words plus they did give us a couple bottles of bubbles on the house for the trouble. Food was great, everyone enjoyed their meals and the staff were very apologetic.

After reading reviews I was a bit nervous to come here but I'm so glad we did. They have a lovely outdoor area, great for kids to run around. Service was fast, friendly and they were happy to make small changes to the menu for us. The food was good! I had a $10 meal so was not expecting much, bit the chips were handcut, hot and delicious with aioli and my blt was huuuuge, and the bread nicely toasted. Hubby was equally pleased with his burger. This place needs some attention. Smells n smoke waft out from the kitchen. The staff move around a lot and seem a bit stressed and disorganised. One person should have organised out table, instead of five! The lights in the lovely walkway need fixing, as does the fireplace. Candles would create atmosphere that is otherwise lacking. The step in the main room is a hazard, needs a sign. Food was mostly good but the pork crackling too salty. Great building.

Excellent service and awesome food walked in at 530pm was told may have to wait until 730 for food as they were booked up but we chose to wait anyway and were served and out again by 20 past 6. We enjoyed a lovely dinner here on Friday night . Hubbie had the burger and I had the fillet steak. Hubbie couldn't eat all his burger and elected for a doggie bag. I was a very nice burger. But my steak meal OMG it was to die for. It really was. It was seriously the best steak I have had in a very very long time. If you are looking for a good, medium rare fillet steak, this is the place to go! You won't be disappointed. The staff were excellent too - very friendly.

Fantastic meal that was excellent value for money and beautifully cooked, comprehensive childrens menu too, friendly and attentive staff, great atmosphere and an impressive range of tap beers and other drinks available, this was the best eating we have ever had in Hanmer over many years worth of visits and will definitely be back.
