Waxy's Irish Pub is an institution in Invercargill. A very popular spot for a few drinks with friends or a good hearty Southland meal. Meals are tasty and overall pretty good. The seafood chowder is actually creamy and delicious and full of seafood, a bargain for the price compared to other restaurants near by. The pasta and bangers and mash were nice but averge, the loaded wedges were also very run of the mill and frankly disappointing. The chicken tacos are a treat and went down well. Service was the biggest downfall, waitress seemed new, distracted and seemed stressed with her workload which meant simple items like soup spoons with the soup were missed. However 5 people and a drink $139 bucks. Very reasonable.

We walked past Waxy's and saw the sign for the NY's party with live music so we decided to come back later and check it out and we were not disappointed. The staff were all friendly, helpful and quick. The atmosphere was very chill until about 11pm when it seemed like the whole of Invercargill was on the dance floor lol (but still lots of fun) And the live band was 10/10 amazing!!

Great place for a feed and a beer, let down by staff to be honest. been a few times now and everytime the staff look poorly trained and no real awreness of real customer service. Not the Norm for an Irish bar. Feel bad giving 3 stars as the food has always been on-point - Maybe the chefs can serve the bar to !!!

Had the lamb burger.. superb ..frys had a garlic mayo dip , yummy .. nice on its own. Whole meal was really filling lamb patty cooked to perfection. Staff were really nice . Band comes on around 9pm . Highly recommend this place, hopefully my photos load.

It's not Ireland but it's the nearest to it that you'll find in Godzone. Happily the Southland climate is similar and the food & drink are a perfect match. Large portions. Great Guinness (and I've had many a pint of the black in Eire) and good crac. Recommended

A group of 10 of us booked for an evening meal over Easter. We arrived on time at 7:30pm, but they struggled to seat us. Apparently they had given our table away to some other group. Then the real problems began - all up they took 90 minutes to serve us! The food was however quite tasty.
