Lovely setting and a must visit for Omaha or Matakana visitors. Beer is delicious and tasting platters etc make it good plus the off license. Staff were excellent and and attentive. Food was delicious but found it to be super pricey and slightly limited. Almost trying to be a 5 star restaurant when it's not, its a brewery! Only reason for not being 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit though!

Busy atmosphere but we managed to get a seat outside. Lots of choice with the beer and the food was gorgeous. Recommend spending a summer's afternoon chilling outside.

My second visit to Sawmill. Food is absolutely delicious and the beer is great! We got the beer tasting platters and I enjoyed the gnocchi. We were told off by a ‘manager’ for drinking the canned beer that we purchased from there but she called it “outsider drinks” which was confusing but rules are rules I guess. She was just quite rude about it, perhaps a bit stressed as the place was very busy. The other waitress we had however was absolutely amazing!! A fabulous place indoors and outdoors. Highly recommend :)

The beer was fantastic! There are 2 of them became the most impressive beer for me in Auckland. However not much selections on the menu interested. Definitely will back again

The beer selection is top notch. The staff are very informed and able to assist you with your beer choices, to make it a truly enjoyable experience. The place has a rustic charm, and a lovely outside area with great views. It's the perfect place to kick back with some friends for the afternoon. Although they have a nice enough menu, I was very disappointed about the portion size (especially considering the cost), and lack of food that go with beer, e.g. burgers, steak, pizza, nachos, etc.

Wow, what a great experience. Top notch service, everyone very welcoming. Fabulous beer but the food was stunning. Six of us had a range of small plates to share and everything was outstanding, well worth the price in my opinion. I look forward to a return visit.

Wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff and most importantly, wide variety of tasty drinks, small bites and big meals!

Had a work party there last week. The team were so accommodating and looked after us so well, even when we had some extra food requests and speeding up the service when we started running a bit late for our ride back to Auckland. Much appreciated guys, legends!!

Went for the brewery tour for Dads 70th. The whole family absolutely loved it - there's something for everyone from new-to-not-so-beer drinkers to someone who considers themselves beer experts. The beer sample rack was very generous. Smoko room menu was amazing and very tasty.

We had an incredible lunch today and a very happy 10 year old who enjoyed the food thanks to the separate fryer they now have for coeliacs! The current menu is simply delicious! Highly recommend the oysters, ceviche, fried chicken, cauliflower pakora and goat flat bread with hummus and labneh. Thank you for the incredible hospitality too!

Great spot for lunch on a beautiful day. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was quick and very good. Always a bit dubious of food at some brewery locations but this was done very well and very tasty. Glad not to have the usual selection of deep fried options. The beer also speaks for itself and I can definitely recommend a tasting paddle to get a good selection to try.

Great selection of beers, what goes on hand with unique food menu. I suggest to take beer selection of 5 choices, so you can find out what you like. Hummus with lamb was very delicious. Also their fries taste nice. Great atmosphere and smiling waitresses will help you to find something for your taste.

It has HUGE selection of BEER! From ales to lagers, you name it. I would’ve given 5-stars because I was expecting larger food portions. But quality of cuisine was still great nonetheless. Very attentive and friendly service crew also adds buzz to the place!

Wonderful beers. iPA was sensational! Food was also great quality and tasted fantastic. Portions of the share platters were a little small for the price but very fresh and flavoursome.

Was well worth the drive to see this brewery in the middle of the rolling green hills. Immaculately clean from dining areas to bathrooms. Plenty of on tap choices as well as Smoko Room food to choose from. Sounds like they have some events from time to time too. Outdoor seating was a huge plus just to be able to look out at the great outdoors.

Classy, professional, outstanding service and stunning food and beer/ wine. Yum! Waiting staff were friendly and the atmosphere and music were awesome. 10/10 my new favourite!

The best brewery tap I've been to in NZ. A really chilled out place, with fantastic interior design. Really diverse beer list with the option for a taster flight or takeaway beers. Takeaway beers also entitles you to a discount - but it's well worth pulling up a seat out on the terrace to enjoy the ambience and sunny weather.

Fantastic place. Some of the best beers in New Zealand served fresh. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Delicious food. Great location and music playlist.

Amazing beer highly recommend it Great outdoor area too

Top notch place, if you love great beer with great food while enjoying great atmosphere. On my particular visit, there was a smoker in the outside area. The staff said it was ok to smoke there. Thing is, the smoke doesn't stay contained to that area so everyone has to deal with it. I'll be glad when smoking is totally banned from public places.

Awesome craft brewery ... the taster was around $20 but generous sizes. Very good beers and cool atmosphere... would love to spend longer next time.

Cool set up, indoors and out. Nice selection of solely Sawmill beers on tap. Menu more tapas than restaurant. Best for catch-up drinks with friends outdoors in summer.

Such a great a place, couldn’t fault any of the meals and the beers/drinks were delicious. Our waiter was awesome, she just gave off a lovely vibe. My partner and I were taken aback by the atmosphere of the place and we had a laugh as we swore they were playing our own personal Spotify playlist. Over all the experience was exceptionally good. Will definitely be returning even if it’s just a day trip from Auckland and back. Worth it.

Great location up in Matakana, really well laid out, and worth the drive up from Aucks. Great beer menu, equally amazing food - and the wait staff really bent over backwards to help us, with our kids. Definitely going back there again soon!

Sawmill Brewery is my favourite place around Matakana and Leigh for food and a drink. The menu offers a diverse range of delicious options from entrees to mains to desert. Full line up of all the well known Sawmill beers, wine, cocktails etc. Attentive and helpful staff. One of the best things is how quickly the food comes out of the kitchen. Very impressive considering the place is normally full.

Great spot for freshly brewed beer, with nice food. Busy in weekends - as many want to escape out of Akl City.

A really nice venue with good but limited parking & friendly welcoming staff. I wasn’t familiar with the place so I went past it & had to turn back. It would pay to use google once you go through Matakana, if you’re new to it. I loved that they set up a sheltered area with heaters going for more vulnerable people. The wine was lovely, fries well cooked, & the chocolate mousse to die for. I noticed the pastrami dish wasn’t well balanced, with two astringent components, being the mustard & pickles that were designed to go with it, & the charred sour dough bread. Other than that, a very pleasant experience. Get there early for the parking.

This is the absolute best. Fantastic food. We went for lunch and woof! Amazing! We had the cumin flatbread with braised goat, the broccolini salad, the pork hock with Kimchi and potatoes roasted in dripping. It was all brilliant - we've never tasted anything quite so exciting and full of flavour. And the staff really know what they're doing, and they're friendly with it. Best. Lunch. Ever.

I love the variety of beer. The fresh hop beers were incredible this season. So good having this as our local.

I'm in a craft beer club in Chch called the GBC. We've been tasting craft beers since 2006 and meet once a month. We like to try and stay over most new craft beers but it's a bit of a mission these days!. The Sawmill Hazy, the XPA and the Pilsner have knocked our socks off. They continue to rate 10/10 at our tasting sessions. They are unbelievably good and in our view are leading the way in the Craft beer world at present. But don't take our word for it go try it yourselves.

Great service and good food (only sharing plates, but very tasty)

Agree with some other reviewers that size of the portions is very small for the price. Taste is good but this is not amount of the food I imagine people have with beer (especially beer, maybe with wine tasting it's ok). I would say 2 people need to order approx 4 of these "sharing" plates to be satisfied, definitely fries unfortunately if you hungry. Beer is nice, but won't visit again unfortunately as end up being very pricey.

We had a very enjoyable evening, tasting many of their awesome beers, and sampling some of the very interesting examples of their use of local produce. Their staff were also very friendly and informative. It's not often I give 5 stars, so I highly recommended this place. Thankyou

Great for beer lovers! They also have taco nights (once a week!?), really nice toppings! Unfortunately no hot drinks but they went out of their way and got me tea :). Nice atmosphere, great outdoor seating!

The food was great overall, very nicely presented and very tasty. The only thing we would have changed was the chocolate tart as we weren't keen on the buffalo yoghurt and dark chocolate flavor combo. The service was average though, there are a lot of little things that could be improved like refilling our water when it ran out, clearing plates when finished, asking if we'd like another drink etc. Also one of the dishes we ordered had been forgotten so we had to wait longer for it to come out. On the whole the atmosphere was great, excellent music choices! I'd definitely recommend this place.

Beautiful setting, busy but not madness like Puhoi Pub, plenty of parking, awesome service, reasonable prices and good beer. If definitely go there again.

Good atmosphere, great beer, and even better food. The beef hummus was amazing. The bread and butter starter was not that great. The food is a bit pricey for the quantity but you get quality. I recommend sharing a few items among your party.

There is an amazing selection of beers out there! The food is also good, the portions are slightly small but who cares when there’s so much beer around! I must say, the glass painting at the entrance is just beautiful and so is the interior designing of the toilets!

Beer and atmosphere is great but not impressed with the food menu. The food menu seems like an expensive fancy restaurant and does not match the brewery vibe at all.

Saturday 8 Feb 2021.My wife and l and 19 other family members celebrated our 50th Wedding anniversary lunch.Beautiful setting,welcoming staff great service,food exceptional and just kept coming.Beer tasting was superb as well as alternatives for non beer drinkers.Our second time there and our guests were impressed.Recommend to all to experience it.Andy

Love this place. Great service despite the restrictions around covid and tricky customers needs. Food is good especially the spicy venison ribs and the beer is better. We will return.

The beer is excellent. The food not so much. I've eaten there on 3 occasions and always find the menu interesting. However the execution is seriously lacking. Most major things are lack of seasoning and balance of flavours and tastes. Sorry but really underwhelming.

Love a beer and sunset @ the smoko room

Superb food and awesome beer selection in a cool and relaxed vibe. The cumin flatbread with braised goat was delicious, as was the black IPA.

The beer in this establishment is excellent. I had the tasting board with the pale ale, saison, bock, IPA and DIPA. All the hop-forward beers were excellent. The saison was okay, although a little papery. The bock, however, was world class. Definitely worth a visit if you like good craft beer.

Amazing atmosphere great range of beers and wines. Food is different. A lot of sea food and vegetarian. good for sharing but may not suit everyones tastes

Wow where did this place suddenly pop out from? We normally grab something at the Matakana Pub, but thought we should be adventurous and check out the Sawmill Brewery and am glad we did! Get away from the hustle and overcrowded bustle of Matakana with a relaxing brew at the Sawmill. If you want to visit at lunch during the weekend, get there at 12pm, since there was already a queue formed (doors open at 12pm) and within 15mins all the inside tables were gone.... :-) However if it is a sunny there's plenty of outdoor seating and room for kids to play. The food was great, more refined than rustic, and of course the beer selection is outstanding!!

Lovely staff - ordered 7 items of food, all was average except the Pastrami which was beautifully cooked. I suggest ordering bread with the Pastrami as doesn’t come with it.

Best dark ale I've ever tasted. Beer excellent. Food below average. Cake was terrible mix of things that did not work. Will def come back for the beer but will not be eating here.

Lovely outdoor seating (plus indoor), sharing style plates-unusual but very tasty options, great rose for the non beer drinkers, friendly service-we enjoyed a lovely lunch before heading off for a beach afternoon.

Went to Sawmill about 6 months ago when I'm NZ with work. It was so amazing I had to take family here recently. Food is amazing and has to be one of the best craft beers I have tasted. I will be back.

Could easily have been 5-star if it allowed dogs. The place is setup for K9s in their outdoor area, but alas we went to the original Leigh Sawmill instead 😥
