I went here with my friends for a late lunch and a few beers. Had the best poke bowl ever! Absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend if you're not feeling the typical pub grub!

We've always enjoyed Astrolabe but the last visit was not as enjoyable, only because we didn't realise that we could only order food off the whole menu after 4pm. We arrived just before 4pm, they checked with the kitchen and they were happy for us to order burgers, however, we waited 1.5 hrs for the food but ended up having to ask for a refund as we couldn't wait any longer. It was possibly just the time of the day because normally, we don't have any issues. The staff were very apologic & even offered us a free beer at our next visit.

Nice. We went on a Monday night, the service was great and the food came out pretty quickly. Our table had a mixture of pizza, burgers and salad and everyone enjoyed their meal. Good value for money

Really cool looking place with live music playing. Friday nights are super busy and you'll either have to reserve tables or get lucky finding one, although they do have quite a bit of seating inside and out. Unfortunately our experience there wasn't the greatest as we waited for over an hour for our food to arrive (we ordered the Kumara fries and a half Aloha and half Thai Chicken pizza). When we finally got our food, the Aloha half was missing the pineapples. =( Someone must have a thing against pineapples on pizza. =/ Luckily for us, we got the pizza refunded; however, for our last night in New Zealand it was bittersweet having wasted two hours. Foodwise, it was decent though not worth the hour wait.

This bar is awesome. Fantastic food and drink. Great music, very laid back. They have created a perfect kiwi "bach culture" vibe. Staff are very friendly. Their cider is awesome with several flavours they mix on the spot with lots of lime! Yummy!! $10 Will get you a beer, Burger and chips on Tuesdays. SOOOO GOOD!!

Well, went there for the promotion they had on every Tuesday where you get a burger and beer for $10. Pretty good deal, beer is good , burger wasn't bad. We had the beef burger. Only thing I didn't like was the burger buns taste like overnight dried retoast bun. The beef party taste good though.

Best place on the main street at the Mount for lively entertainment and rustic brewbar cuisine! Awesome character, dressed up as a 70's bach gives it a unique atmosphere they needs to be seen to be appreciated!

What a fantastic experience! I know not of any other place that looks so much like a typical NZ Bach. Old school suitcases, surfboards on the wall, and there is even a “Nana’s Place” sign. Great food too.

Busy place but the service is sharp. Hard working crew there. It's a good place to bring the kids, there's a play area. Food was good, the French Dip is basically a Roast Beef Po-Boy and that's not easy to find. That was delicious, the star of the show. The pizza was nice too. Will go back :)

Stopped in for a wine at the end of a long day and we were pleasantly surprised with a live band. The bar is very relaxed and family friendly in the outdoor area. Once the live music kicks off in the evening it can be a bit loud but if you're in the mood rock on as it is a great venue

Tauranga, New Zealand. Said to be the Gold Coast of NZ in summer - very pretty place. On 5 October 2011 the MV Rena ran aground here resulting in an oil spill. On 8 January 2012 the Rena broke in two after enduring heavy winds and seas overnight.By 10 January the stern section had sunk almost completely. Since we were on a ship we decided to drink and not to sink. The Astrolabe Brewbar was the perfect spot. Terrific pub food and plenty of atmosphere. #facxual_events

Up in the Mt for Summer disco concert at the Stadium and next day hungry as ... well been here before and ordered the Kahuna Big Breakfast which as you can see is quite the plate of food, at $18 dollars it certainly is value for money including an endless free supply of filter coffee to accompany the meal! ... WOW it beat me! ... lovely open air surroundings to cool down the heat during the summer months, and lots of lil retro touches around the place ... space is NOT an issue ... mean brekkie team ... see you again soon thats for sure!.

I was a little disappointed with my experience here, as I had heard such good things about Astrolabe. I ordered the ribs which came with cilantro, however it didn't say anything on the menu. To most people it tastes good, however some people have a genetic differentiation which makes it tastes horrible, so I think that would be good to mention. The staff were okay, but seemed a little worn down and flat. Good things: the beer, mulled cider, atmosphere, chips/fries, and location.

I really like this place, I always find the staff pleasant and it has a really nice feel. I love the sticky Korean chicken and I think the waffles are delicious and good value. Will definitely return.

Discovered this place while looking for a cheap lunch ! What a chance ! Really nice atmosphere and service. The 12$ lunch combo totally worth it ! Cheap for the quantity / quality ! You can't go wrong with $10 burger, beer & fries (on Tuesdays). The kids meals are generous at $10 with a drink and ice cream. I just got a starter because I knew I'd be eating left over kids meals! Service was good too and they were very busy.

The steak is amazing, arguably the best eye fillet I've had. The Tuesday $10 burger chips and beer combo is wicked value and the burger was Oh So Good. Definitely coming back next time I'm in Tauranga

We've heard how popular this place is usually, so we were glad to see it wasn't packed out. We enjoyed a very nice lunch there and they catered well for my coeliac wife. We loved the retro themed decor with multiple seating options for inside or outside eating. A great atmosphere, with very friendly staff and quick meals.

What an awesome place for the family. Great vibes. We were even aloud to take our dogs in. We had two international students and they got a real buzz from being there. Meals were great and we did not have to wait long even though it was busy. You have to try the Monkey Waffles. Highly recommended

Went there on a Tuesday night only because I was told it was a good place to eat. We were told about the burger, chips and beer deal which the 4 of us ended up getting and you have the option of vegetarian if you dont eat meat so big ups to the bartender for telling us that, my daughter and her friend dont drink alcohol so they were given the option of swapping it for juices instead. The customer service was excellent, the burger buns are the best that I have ever had and I have had alot elsewhere, whoever made my expresso martini did it perfectly it was packed but we didnt have to wait long for our meals happy go lucky staff behind the bar which makes all the difference, a couple with a service dog was seated right next 2 us with a water bowl at first I didnt think it was good health & safety wise but he was well behaved, clean and we could see how protective and helpful he was towards his owner so it didnt bother me in the end. Overall the 4 of us left happy so we will definitely be going back no complaints from us.

Funky decor and good location, this place is an old institution at The Mount, and our rest stop after a walk around the iconic hill. With Mac’s on tap and a reasonable food selection it was a good choice for a sunny afternoon beer. I was disappointed at the portion size of the Potato Skins ... which did not live up to the ‘loaded’ description

We came here again while on our 2020 summer vacation. This place is clean, tidy and very busy. It's obvious that it attracts young adults but it's also child friendly. Decor is kinda funky. Friendly bar staff and good service. A nice outdoor courtyard. We enjoyed a couple of beers while listening to some light music entertainment. Food was ok too.

Such a quirky place . I passed it multiple times and finally decided to try , wondering to myself after my amazing meal why I hadn’t come sooner. The burgers are massive and fresh, the French fries are super crispy and they have a great selection of different beers and drinks. Most of the restaurant has outdoor seating , it’s very open and inviting , casual and fun!! A must visit for some good pub food! The are vegetarian friendly... a bonus!!

Average standard pub food. Service times can seem lengthy compared to continental equivalents in regards to how busy the place is at any point in time. Can be a great place, can equally leave it at times.

Ordinarily I would do a SHORT and LONG version of a review ... however, as my wife and I speak about our experience at Atsrolabe ... we are struggling to find anything negative to say. I do try to find at least 1 little thing to mention, as nobody is perfect, however the things that I would say are negatives are not really Astrolabe's fault or responsibility. Parking can be an issue ... but it's the mount so that's a given. The noise level is crazy sometimes ... but lunch rushes are always loud. I love this place and have continued to go there at least once a month to enjoy the crazy decor and prompt service. There are a few extra restrictions in place due to COVID, but otherwise they are handling this pandemic well.

We went here for our wedding breakfast it was impromptu to come here but wow guys thanks for making our day awesome. These guys went the extra mile especially when they found out why we were there. A bit average really. I had the short ribs and they were very fatty, grisly and not slow cooked for long enough. No "love" in this meal. The salad was drenched in dressing to point of being unpleasant to eat. The rest of the meals at our table were mostly average with no stand outs. Staff were ok, but I wouldnt say friendly or exceptional. Nothing to write home about unfortunately.

I liked it, I thought the food was more expensive than I would've liked it to be, so I went for the cheaper options... I enjoyed the waffles but they only put cream on top, not icecream... I found that to be rather disappointing. I've been to the waffleroom in Kerikeri and they do a better job overall with their waffles... maybe it's because this place is in the main touristy part of Tauranga that the rental costs are high and food prices need to match... or they're just charging what they do because tourist towns do that. Either way, I might return, I did like it, I did give it a 4/5 but maybe I should've given a 3... but I'm unfamiliar with Tauranga and maybe they're a better option compared to their competitors? My review will change if that's so.

We enjoyed a nice lunch here. The terrace is fantastic with all the crazy decoration. The food was good, however the lamb meat in one of the burgers was way too dry and hard to chew. Pitty!

Astrolabe is super good for groups and families! The food is awesome and so is the service! One downside is that the music isn’t super loud outside, and on nights when everyone’s ready to dance and have fun (usually fridays) they don’t play the best music. One time the played promiscuous twice within the same 20 minutes.

Pretty much in the heart ot the town center, this place serves a fantastic pizza by the metre. The staff was very helpful and accomodating. The pizza was delicious and so was the other two plates we chose (fiah and chips and honey soy sticky beef short ribs). Mr. 8 lved his strawberry milkshake too.

Don't ask for wedges! My partner and I enjoy the occasional drink at this establishment. Have eaten here often, tho the food is average at best. The other day we ordered wedges... $14 worth. What we got only deserved to be chucked in the rubbish... about 6 thin potato skins and a bowl of aioli. Joke? The chef needs to sort his reputation out! I'm not eating there again...

Just dropped in for a coffee while in Mt Maunganui & when orderng we were advised that there would be at least a 15 minute wait. We had the time & not in a hurry. Cappuccino's came, good quality nicely presented & hot which was marvellous which some places don't seem to manage. Delay was due to their business being very popular & we found service excellent & friendly even though they were very busy. Certainly go there again when in town. Can get a bit noisy would be my only comment otherwise a great stopover for us.

A really surprising place to come to eat and drink. The selection of food is pretty impressive and portion sizes are HUGE (just look at the pizzas for proof). The quality of the food isn't bad at all, but their pulled pork burger had a really odd sour after taste (It tasted like the coleslaw inside had an entire lime squeezed over it) - meant I couldn't finish it, but I was still really content with the meal. Great place!

Had a great night in Nana's House, a very kitsch, oldschool nod to the 70s/80s grandparents house. Nice and cosy in winter, food was tasty (burgers, chips, ribs etc) and dessert waffles were really moreish. A little disorganised with drinks, meals came out and no one dad cutlery but otherwise we had a really fun evening in a cool, interesting space. Looks like they have a lot of specials on given nights too for anyone local

Astrolabe is a destination in itself. It has been a longstanding location in downtown Mount Maunganui and is ideal for all ages. There is a great outdoor area with a small play space for children (and a great kids menu) and loads of indoor and outdoor seating. It seamlessly transitions from restaurant bar to nightclub on the weekends.
