Went for lunch at the tavern, and i will highly recommend it! Remotely located, this place has its charm. The welcoming and friendly owners offered us delicious meals with generous portions. Unfortunately i didn't take pictures of the atmosphere inside, but the all place is convivial and cozy, ornamented with antique, vintage and family-oriented decorations. Appraised by locals, it's definitely worth the stop.

What made my dinner here is not the very affordable food which is also really nice, tasty and there’s a lot to eat but the kids corner with lots of toys and games for them to play for hours at a time! At last a place where we can enjoy our food, our glass of beer, gin or else with friends And our son had the best time playing with trucks, doll house and everything else in between! Thanks for welcoming us!

This is our new local. We came in and introduced ourselves last night and were made to feel very welcome. The beers were cold, the bangers and mash just what I needed and the atmosphere (although noisy last night with a large table next to us) was just right. We'll be back.

Glad we called in and stopped for a great natter with the owners. Perfect single shot flat white soy milk coffees. Probably the best piece of gurnard fish encased in a delicate batter served in a flash. Fresh azzzz!!! I feel mean, but the only negative was walking thru the odour of cigarette smoke at the entrance way.

A jewel in the middle of nowhere. A husband and wife team run this unassuming place, both with hearts of gold and prepared to do anything for you. We were biking through a windy wet cool day and arrived, worrying about one of our more elderly bikers. Well, the owner got her husband to drive back the way we came just to see how our 68 year old was doing. We will always remember their kindness.

Stopped off during a great ride to Pourerere and back. "Fresh Fish Meal" - was indeed made from very fresh fish - excellent. Range of beers was standard NZ rural pub fare - no delicious and expensive craft beers. All in all - highly recommended for lunch and a pint.

This is a traditional rural Kiwi pub with hearty pub food. Think fish'n'chips, nachos, wedges etc. The tavern has a cosy interior with lots of local rugby photos and other knick-knacks, like shearing tally books pinned up next to the bar. The staff are friendly and service was good. The food was fairly average on the whole, but if you can modify your expectations (i.e. don't expect a Wellington bistro) you won't be disappointed. My partner had a steak which he said was a very nice cut of meat, but overcooked - more like medium well than medium rare. I had the "Pea, Pie & Pud" - a steak and mushroom pie encased in mashed potato with peas on top and serious lashings of gravy. I'm giving Patangata Tavern 4 stars for being a great traditional Kiwi pub with lots of character and a nice vibe.
