Great place to sit out i the sun and have a beer and feed. Lots of seating, and shade if needed. Had fun playing some outdoor large piece chess too. Food was tasty and there was no long wait time. The only down side is you have to order inside and also walk your own drinks out, which can be a mission if you have a few to carry!! Table service would be a big advantage.

Lovely setting overlooking the water. Friendly staff. Food average with fish & chips order cold and the calamari stringy and cold so maybe don’t order that dish. We left it well alone. Lovely cold beer and drinks so definitely recommend as lovely place to stop on the cycle trail for a few drinks. Lots of spots to safely park up your bike.

Staff: Such lovely staff. Flexible, were willing to serve me waffles when they just changed onto the lunch menu & I couldn't make up my mind on lunch menu options but, knew if waffles were available I'd go for it. Seating: Both inside and outdoor options to have your meals. Environment: Lovely environment outside, there's ☂️'s set up at most tables & some tables shaded naturally by some 🌳s. Cute & friendly little 🐦 s came to visit for some food (I gave a little 😊). They did not disturb us, & just waited for us to go. Entertainment: Music 🎵 loud enough to hear from outside, great song selection, I was singing along to the greats ABBA's hit 💃👸 (dancing Queen)& 🚀🧑‍🚀 (Rocket Man), Stuck in the middle with you & there' were other well known great songs played, so they have a great taste in music. There's a large scale Chess 🐴⚔️👸🤴 Food: Beautifully presented, sweet waffles & nachos were ordered. There is also a savoury option. The waffles were the best waffles I've ever had. It made my day. Interestingly the food was served before the drinks but, that worked well for us as I had reported I'd go with 2 waffles due to being hungry as opposed to one. Drinks arrived sometime after tlbut, was still good timing as we could have it while we had our meals. Drinks: Great value from a bar, $5 for a coke & raspberry & $5 for a 🍋, lime & bitters. Both glasses were full which makes it well worth the money spent and left us full and satisfied after having our meals alongside our drinks. Pets: One lady had her dog tied to something by her table with a bowl so it appears as though pets are welcome to accompany people outside 😊.

We arrived 6.30 pm to share a platter. I don't usually complain. But no platters anymore new menu basic. They run out of wedges had no mince for nachos either. We were told they had vegetarian mince. When it came little cheese only chopped tomatoes. 3 spoons of sour cream. 22.90. rubbish under our outside table incl butts.

Wow, first stop on our honeymoon, we cake lae in the evening as our ferry was late, but the waitstaff were fantastic, they were cheerful and attentive without being intrusive. The food was really delicious and this was an excellent experience. Thank you We also spent the night in the gorgeous rose cottage, the attention to detail was excellent and while it had all of the modern conveniences they were hidden cleverly away so not to ruin the country cottage experience. Woke up to the sun gently coming through the curtains and opened them to a stunning view of the water, this was truly a special place.

The staff have always been great to us and we know the mainstays by name, also highly recommend the beef pie. Generally love this place and come here with our well behaved and relaxed dog. But was just told by one of the newer staff that due to health and safety she had to be tied up at all times. She was on the grass not bothering anyone and one of the other waitresses and already commented how relaxed and well behaved she was. Put us off completely and will second guess considering coming back or recommending others. Not. Dog. Friendly.

Absolutely loved this place, we went there for lunch and both meals were fantastic! Hadn't been there in a wee while but will make it a very regular place to go for a nice relaxing experience. The food was exceptional to say the least, we had the salmon and the pie off the favorites menu and we can see why it's on the favorites menu for sure, highly recommended! The staff were absolutely fantastic and we didn't wait long at all for our meal. The setting is lovely right by the sea and close to town without watching people walk by. A huge outdoor area for a nice day and the inside has a very homely feeling of an old English pub. Prices are very reasonable for a great meal in such a lovely place and the food you get it's very competitive with other very nice places in the area. So relaxing, very clean and tidy. I would say it's one of our favorites to go any time of the year. Thanks very much to The Honest Lawyer staff for such a wonderful lunch.

We stayed here before on New Year’s Eve / a few days before in December 2020. Such an awesome space! The accomodation is upstairs with the pub downstairs and then a massive courtyard which is just beautiful on a summers day. The customer service was amazing and the food was good. We attended one of their jazz nights on our arrival which was packed with people and awesome to see - it set our vibe for the days to come. Handy location. Beautiful view of the estuary. It’s extremely handy to have the pub downstairs - after dinner you can zip upstairs for a quick nap in your room before coming back down for a dessert! Would stay here again :)

It had a jazz festival on for 3 days. We went on the 3rd day as it was the blues. Good music but only had 2 people serving at the bar and 1 person taking the money. The cue was long so we did double orders. They did have a bottle only counter set up outside but people wanted pints. Food came out quick Good overall experience

Rustic looking venue set in beautiful surroundings at the heart of the Monaco inlet. Can cater for events and birthday parties with a large room at the back. Reasonable selection on the menu, with prices to match. Local beer and wines are sold here, too. I haven't been a patron of their accommodation, it does have it, and what looks like the space for a dozen rooms on the top floor.

We stayed at the accommodation and also went to the pub for dinner. All the staff were really friendly and the dinner was good. The pub is on the waters edge and there is a really nice large outdoor area. We liked the room which really fits with the old country pub vibe.

We stayed overnight in a designated carpark in our motorhome for the price of a $20 meal or drink voucher. We had a meal of fish and chips and a beef burger which cost a little extra, which we ate in their lovely garden bar area. This was seriously good food, fresh and cooked beautifully. A great atmosphere with the live Irish band playing in the background..no wonder it was well patronized.

The Honest Lawyer is a place I would very highly recommend. It has a decent pub and drink selection if you're looking for a chill night with friends, but also has a large outdoor dining area near the sea if you're looking for a slightly more fancy 'meal out' vibe. The place has a very chilled out feeling to it, which allows you to enjoy your meal and your company without outside interference or interruptions. The staff is really great. Attentive, friendly, they checked in on us often and they obviously work hard to remember everything with the number of changing specials we got offered. Speaking of speacials, the food here is so, so good. The menu is huge varied, and offeres a really good selection of meals even if you have limitations like gluten-free. The portions are large, very tasty and very well priced, allowing you a fun meal out without breaking the bank. All in all, I would give this place an absolute 5/5 and a very high recommendation for anyone looking for a place to treat yourself!

We love this place. We've been here several times for dinner and the food is always great. Service is friendly and reasonably quick. The setup is very nice both inside and out. Hard to beat when thre suns shining, the tides in and there's a cool breeze blowing across from the water whole you drink a cool one and enjoy a meal. A little on the expensive side but we reckon it's worth it here.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The room was such a delight, spacious, great bathroom, we were lucky enough to get a spa bath. It rocked. The hotel itself was built in the 90s, but it seriously looks and feels like a hotel from 1890s. Each morning breakfast included was a nice treat! My daughter and I visited the Honest Lawyer at Monaco Tuesday evening. Nice ambiance, friendly and attentive service and, despite the menu only having "pub food", the food was delicious and well presented. We can particularly recommend the vegan burger - something my daughter decided to try for something "different". It was flavorsome and represented good value for money. We'll be back again!

As a patron of the restaurant, bar, and hotel, I find it easy to tell you that I was very pleased with all three. The waitstaff was pleasant, the food was good, and the food was brought out quicker than expected. The bartenders were top notch and served some quality drinks with a smile on their faces. The hotel was solid. Comfortable beds, good water pressure - over all very comfortable. You can catch some really nice views here, especially when the tide is in.

Fantastic property. Dinner was nothing fancy but tasted good. Beer was very welcome. Bar manager was awesome, very friendly and engaging. Had a small incident later in the evening with a roudy group under our window, pub was supposed to be closed but they were nursing their drinks. Bar manager politely cleared them off when I asked, she was top notch. Room was comfortable, just keep in mind that it's an old building so don't expect the Ritz. We had a light breakfast as part of our room rate sitting outside early in the morning. Overall, great stay.

The place is picture perfect! The only reason for a 4 star is due to the meals being way overpriced for a plate of rabbit food. Generally we like a decent amount of meat when its ordered - two bite sizes just doesnt cut it. Would i stay here again? - in a heartbeat!

Hamburgers are delicious and kids can have a go at playing chess on the huge garden chess board. Take a short stroll along the coastal path or just sit back and relax and enjoy the day. Pricing on a par with other pubs.

We enjoyed our 3 nights in Nelson back in November. The staff at the Honest Lawyer were very friendly and the bar/restaurant was usually busy - food was good! The location is great for walks along the headland and is only a short drive from the centre of Nelson.

This used to be amazing years ago. I can’t say I would go back after our experience today. Menu is average, not gastro pub quality. Beers had just changed and no craft beer, in fact the two types of Macs I wanted were off and ordered an Emerson’s but got a Macs gold. Food was ok, not memorable. Serving staff were not experienced, could have asked how the food was when clearing the plates. Requests such as cream with a pudding instead of custard got lost. Train the staff, improve the menu and get the basics right. I want this place to be how it used to be.

I've written a glowing review of this place once before because I rate it highly and I want to add to that now. Tonight for the first time there was an issue with my meal, the issue is irrelevant but there was an issue nonetheless, which is never a nice situation to be in. I can't complement the staff enough for the way it was dealt with, no fuss, no embarrassing situation just a good professional attitude and the situation was calmly rectified. You sometimes find as much put about a place when things don't quite go according to plan as you do when they do. STILL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 😊

Stayed recently and loved it. Sadly we were only in Nelson for the one night and didn't have a chance to really appreciate the location and atmosphere. I look forward to staying again soon and making the most of what is on offer.
