What a legend Jason was. We arrived just after 8.30 and they were just about to close… He was kind enough to serve us up so chicken wings & poutine for take away and serve us a couple of pints for the wait. Ended up letting us eat the food there and waiting for us to finish. The food was spot on and service impeccable. Top bloke, friendly service and good food! What more could you ask for?!

Our family will eat nowhere else but Schnapps when we holiday here in future. We had fantastic food & the portions were great. Loved the vegetarian options (Fettuccine was delicious) and the staff were A class especially the lovely man who served our meals on both occasions. I love this pub. It has lots of space, good food and a view of Ruapehu on a clear day. Today I had the Chicken curry and my partner had the Beef and bacon burger. Both were compel tasty and satisfying after a day on the mountain. And the fruits were great.

Great place to meet up with friends and enjoy the views of Mt Rusoehu and Ngauruhoe. There's a great mini golf course - very entertaining. The staff are super friendly, and the service impeccable. A great menu, with vegan vegetarian and gluten free options. Very welcoming atmosphere.

Amazing food and service! We had two nights in National Park to walk the Tongariro crossing, we chose to come back here the second night for dinner as we’d enjoyed our first meal so much. Great menu including vege/GF options. Staff friendly and attentive. Hope to return next time

The interior is interesting and you can choose from outdoors with a mountains view, indoors cool barstool tables area, or couches by the window. I had Kiki curry which was yum! 😍 The music was nice also. I really enjoyed my lunch here.

Friendly atmosphere, good food and good times. That's what Schnapps is all about. When you're in town visiting the mountains, be sure to drop by Schnapps and try their ribs. It. Is. Soo. Good. You don't need to be worry about dirty handd, there's a complimentary water bowl to wash those rib sauce-laden digits. Just show up and order those ribs. And during wintertimes, order their mulled wine. The best I've tasted so far. Will always visit this place when I am at National Park. In fact I am thinking of going back again since yesterday...

Fantastic place to eat, drink and relax after finishing the great walk. Our bus driver Thomas told us early in the morning on the way to Tongariro that this place serves up some good steaks. And it did not dissapoint. Place was busy and the service was fast. Very friendly staff and people in the place. And the view outside the deck while we had our steaks was stunning.

Went to Schbapps twice. They have large portions which are great for post hikes. The food is good, but for some reason taking something out of the order and replacing it with regular fries costs extra. This was a dilemma since I don't fare too well with milk or cream. Schnapps is a pretty regular sports bar with lots of TVs and a large display, if that's your thing. It's located just by the highway with really easy access if you're just passing by. The view from the place is excellent. Out of the windows you can see Mount Ruapehu in the distance as well as it's friend Ngauruhoe and... the third one.

Six of us went for a family celebration during the week and I must say I was extremely satisfied with everything. The food was very tasty, the atmosphere both warm and inviting. While waiting for our mains to arrive we all looked at what to order for dessert, as you do. The mains were so large not one member of our group ordered dessert. But all agree we will be back just for dessert coffee real soon. Thank you much for a very pleasant evening.

Love this place, amazing food! We go every time we visit National Park I have had the ribs, lamb shank and the veggie salads, all amazing flavour and decent portions. Just what you need after a big day on the slopes or hiking. Great atmosphere and beer selection. Live music on some occasions we have visited. 10 out of 10 couldn't more highly recommend.

Walk-ins party of 5. Full house but the turnover is great and we managed to get a table. Food came out about 15 minutes after ordering which we were pleasantly surprised by. Had a pool table to use, while we waited. Big meals but great prices. Staff were really friendly, cleaned our table and even came back to check how the meals were. To top it off, I went to use the women's bathroom before leaving and they extremely tidy and seem brand new and not typical "bar" bathrooms. Great night before a big ski day tomorrow.

Lovely, hearty food!! Awesome staff. Today (Sunday) we had roast pork. This was done exceptionally well, I mean, melt in your mouth kinda well! Only $15. Great portions, had to ask for a doggy bag!! Food was brought out with a smile and, randomly fast. The place is warm and inviting with a spectacular view. Around 5.30 it started to get busy but the lads handled it like a boss. *I just saw their razor back ribs given to another table... We're coming back tomorrow!!

We came in tired after the Taungariro Crossing. Bar man didn't seem overly friendly, must get fed up with hearing about people's adventures. Food was unable to be ordered straight away as Kitchen was trying to catch up on earlier orders. Seemed strange as was not that many people in the bar really, and I'd hate to see how they cope when the borders are open and tourists are back to pre COVID-19 numbers. Food was okay when it came, but really too big a portion for me, so ended up leaving quite a bit, but I was really tired after the hike, so that must have been a factor. Considering that hikers are possibly vital to their income, a bit more friendly would have been good.

Had a great dinner experience here on 21st November. Delicious meals that were delivered super efficiently within 20 minutes of ordering and good value for money. The fish n chips had two big fillets and the beef salad was filling too. Food came out in good time even though they were busy, nearly full. We loved our evening here. The atmosphere was great with all the families coming down off the mountain to have a meal by the fire. It was cosy and friendly. The kids meals were big and served in colourful colanders, which they loved. We shared the lamb shanks, and the goats cheese and beetroot salad. The meals were huge and delicious. The lamb shanks were perfectly cooked and had the most delicious gravy. We actually had pretty low expectations after some average meals in the area. But we were left pleasantly surprised.

Great spot for a quick dinner! My husband and I split the nachos (which were huge) and the loaded fries. The nachos we're better than the fries. The food cane out fast. We considered playing mini golf after but it was really busy & was $11 per person.

This is a fantastic spot for a beer and a feed after a long day at the Tongariro Crossing. It's just a shame I'll always remember it as the place that wouldn't put the Warriors on the telly when they miraculously won after being down by 21 points 😉.

The Lamb shanks and Garlic bread we're delicious tonight. I've also had the scotch fillet, wedges and venison pie here in the past - all decent. Usual range of brewery tap beers available. Servings are decent sized and good value. Kids menu looks largely made up of the 'yellow food group'. Service tonight was friendly and prompt, but I have found in the past on occasion when they've been found short staffed or unexepectedly busy that it can take a long time to get your order in at the bar and the kitchen may take a long time to get your order out. Those experiences aside, on the whole it's still a good bar/restaurant and I would still recommend visiting.

Went here for a family meal Wednesday 7th June. I had the steak with onion rings optional extra and it blew me away. Easily the best steak I have had in the 5 years I have lived in NZ. we had a few kids meals, lamb shanks, and a burger, there were no complaints everyone enjoyed their meal. Some staff were friendly and helpful, others wandered off when they saw you coming, so that's about the only improvement needed that I can see. I will make a point of going here again, I have seen some other reviews and will agree some items are on the pricy side, but if you stack up against some other places I have been to, schnapps Bar would come out on top more often than not overall.

A round of mini-golf gets you their huge nachos plate for $10. We particularly liked the giant Connect 4 game in the beer garden. Note: wifi here is $5 for a pathetic 50MB... next door at the hostel lounge you will pay the same for 1GB.

I recommend this place instead of the over-priced Whakapapa restaurants. The two of us wanted something easy and comfortable on Anzac Holiday evening, and we were not let down by Schnapps. She provided me detailed information and directions etc to help me get to knowbthe area more. This pub has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are friendly and it is definitely a well-loved pub judging by the number of people that normally go there for dinner. The meals are generously proportioned (super filling) and tasty. Would recommend Schnapps bar to any passers by. Note: this place has spectacular views of Mt Tongarero and it's taller brother Mt Ngauruhoe.

What must be the most begrudging Christmas Tree in NZ is found cowering beside the unlit stove in the rather soulless bar. For goodness sakes it's December, if you can't get the place looking welcoming at this time of year then there's no hope! Beers cheaper up the road at The Park too. To owner...there was one Christmas tree it was in a corner it looked particularly sad, no lights and wonky. The place was cold it was raining and felt a really cheerless bar, gloomy in the bad weather. We bought beer cheaper at the Park.
