Not a friendly staff member when we had dinner from out of town.Terrible atmosphere if you don't know how things are done there....Locals seem to enjoy it so I guess that's what matters.
M.Always make a point of going to the Cobb when going to Palmerston. Very reasonable,well presented and very caring staff. Easy parking with car park right beside The Cobb and free of charge. We look forward to our next visit.

T. R.Excellent value meals $15.99 500g rump and chips with sauce. Chicken tenders mash and gravy with coleslaw for $13.50. Steak was tasty chicken coating was too. Good selection of sauces with the steak. Has a deck upstairs for functions with outdoor heaters for warmth.

T. L.Cheap. My son's steak was too red, and couldn't be chewed. Cuts were uneven hence overdone at one end of steak and underdone at the other end. But for $10.95 can't complain. Adults wouldn't mind. Kids best to get them something else like the roast. My mum went based on my recommendation and she enjoyed it.
D. L.Went to Palmerston North on Saturday for the day. At lunch time my husband and I went to the cobb for our lunch I had the 200gm steak with chips and salad with extra mushroom sauce. Asked for my steak to b rear and boy the chef got it perfect. My husband had the 500gm steak meal plus 2 fried eggs, the meal got the better of him as he couldn't finish it all. We also ha a drink each and at the end we were very pleased at the cost not much more than if we had gone to a Cafe.The girls that were working were very friendly and willing to help. Will definitely go back next time we are palmy 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Was busy - got seated initially at a high table on bar stools and then the Duty Mgr asked if we would like to move to a table when one came free (we're both in our 60s). Fast with menus, excellent and accommodating wait staff (my wife is GF/DF) and great quality food at a reasonable price. Complimented the Mgr as we left - we will def recommend and come again when we are in town!

m.My first time at cobb with my friend, it rugby match. I enjoyed lots of and friends staff and services too.

K.Well we had my 2 granddaughters birthday's there last night , thought what a perfect place to hold a function , was beautifully set up by my family, decorations etc, but no cooling system, only a fan which only cooled you down if you stood in front of it, was actually sad , felt for the elderly guests and our babies and little ones running around . Was shocking, we had asked if they could at least open the windows, apparently the windows didn't open at all ..especially this time of the year , needs to be sorted for any future bookings
B. G.The on-line booking link which goes thru thehotellier.com caused problems when I arrived and they had no record of it. Sorted once I accessed the confirmation email. Room was tidy and quiet. An extractor fan would be great in the ensuite and the soap dispenser was empty. Free TV was limited to about 5 channels. The downstairs bar was pleasant - patrons dressed smartly and well-behaved. Food looked great - although as vegans we ate elsewhere. Staff were pleasant. Could've ordered coffees this morning... but bar doesn't serve them with soy option. Overall, a nice surprise for cheap as beds.

Would come back for more ribs~ The only disappointing thing was, we rang 3 days before trying to book a table for dinner, and been told no bookings taken on Wednesday night due to quiz night. L. G. -.Meal was good for its price. Got the $7.95 lunch meal with husband, daughter and friend. Took over half an hour to get our meal out, I know cause I was keeping an eye on the time. About 15 minutes into our wait, some other friends entered the building. After saying hello they were off to order theres. We noticed, when we recieved our meal, our friends who'd come in much later got their meal 5minutes after us. The steak was ok but little tough. Had to cut it up very small to get through it. Overall, it was ok.
D. F.We decided to have lunch. Parmy Chicken with mash and veggies the wife had Cajun chicken salad. With 2 big pieces of chicken on the mash which was dry and a bit lumpy little veg I ended up leaving one piece of chicken being over faced same with the wife. If you like plenty of good basic food come here. Staff friendly and good choice of beers.

Accommodation cheap and very well maintained, the for..Oh my gosh, on point everytime, huge plates and so cheap, The jugs @@ did the job very well, now I travel and cook..restaurants, cafes, creative catering palmy 2001 ;) and cook travel for a crew around nz..so I know when to give good bad and ugly reviews...

s.i love this inexpensive hotel bar and tavern. Love the tasty lunch and dinner menu. i always have tasty BBq pork ribs 500gm and Hoki fish fried fillet. Yummy dishes. The sauces and salt and pepper and Worcestershire sauce are all to your helping. Atmosphere is not too loud or busy. Ha ha I love my slot machines too always win there too. The big chicken fillet burger is yummy too. On Thursday you get 1kg of steak for $15.00 and that is very cool. You come on down to The Cobb Hotel.

C.Does what it says on the tin. A good basic hotel for not much money. The room was clean and tidy, the shower was good and I didn't notice the noise (but I'm a heavy sleeper). Pretty much the only problem was that the bed had an old mattress which was probably past it. Good value for money.

R.The Empire is the Perfect Affordable Place to Crash Out for the Night or to stay with Friends for a Weekend Away! Not The Best if You will be needing a Good Quiet one though! Set above a Popular Bar and an early closing Mexican Restaurant it is a rather Funky set up but I would only recommend to Younger People or Party People!
