J.A charming bar with a bit of history in the heart of Rotorua. There were a lot of vegetarian options but the vegan options are more sparsely labelled and I had to ask to get confirmation. Luckily the waiter was very helpful and was more than happy to help me all the kitchen. The food came out fantastic and we especially enjoyed the vegan burgers and the mint mocktail. The restaurant was very busy on the night we visited but they were very gracious and gave us a table in the garden.
G.Very popular place, always 90%+ full, do need to reserve before coming. Nice atmosphere with live music (band at weekend? sorry, not sure) we love the yummy meals a lot
L.From the tear and share loaf, to the pork belly, everything was delicious. Grandchildren really enjoyed the garlic bread, so much so, one was unable to eat there meatballs and linguine, son n law loved his pork ribs and my two girls, well, let's just say they liked there alcohol beverages. We got there 6.30pm so not really too busy. Atmosphere was great. Thanks...
H.Service was great, very busy when we went in for tea, didn't wait that long after ordering for our meal to be brought out. I call them curly fries, they say pigs tails were little over cooked.

B.Thank you to the amazing servers tonight you guys were fabulous. We just walked in no booking but we were seated immediately and given time to get our orders in which was nice didn't feel rushed (happens a lot when I dine out). The food was delicious we got loaded pork belly cheesy chips, lamb shank and steak. Everything was cooked perfectly couldn't ask for better. I wish I got photos but ate the food so quickly.

E.Walked in with a large table. Service was good and omg the food is so delicious! We all cleared our plates. I had the beef pot pie and it was so scrumptious. The mash is yummy too. Would be back for sure and we love the facts on the wall. Toilets are nice and clean and the space is very warm (came in mid winter). Everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Y.Highlight of my Rotorua visit lol.. If you like delicious hearty meals with decent portion sizes, you will not be disappointed. Our table ordered a bit of everything from the mains menu. Everything was beautifully cooked. The service was friendly and fast. Can't wait to go back again
T.My husband and I came for a late lunch the other day and although we’ve always received good service here, I was blown away by our waitress Teagan. She was welcoming, efficient, had a great positive energy about her and was really observant. Best service we’ve had for a while - she really stood out.

T.Great atmosphere, exceptionally friendly staff, and the meals were tasty, and very hearty I was fortunate to order the Chicken linguine which I demolished with extreme prejudice, and my family and I all were devoured the very buttery( which is to our taste) tear n share breads n dips, and was pleasantly surprised with my Dutch apple crumble 😌. Absolutely beautiful.

OMG what a meal! Photo doesn't do it justice as we'd already seriously attacked it prior to taking the photo.
Fries, gravy, cheese, mushrooms & amazingly tender brisket makes for one of the best meals that I've had in a long time.
Was a struggle for the two of us to eat it. Seriously recommended.
BTW, the default straight cut fries are majorly chunky so would also be great in this dish.We just had a particular yen for the curly fries.
Service was fast, friendly & attentive, excellent staff but clearly working their butts off.
This is one of the hidden gems of Rotorua... A must visit for any traveller passing through.

C.We went for dinner last night, it was busy and a couple of mix ups with food going to the wrong table but all in all a great experience, staff were run off their feet and watched them trying to accommodate people.
The food: i had the satay chicken burger. It was delicious! Really fresh and very filling.
Husband had the pork belly and it was a whopper of a meal! He said it was AMAZING, to the point he wants to go back tonight lol. I would recommend booking as watched many get turned away. Sorry no photo's.

C.What a great historic pub and former police station, food was delicious and a great choice of meat and vegetarian dishes. Lovely selection of craft beers, wines and spirits a really good kiwi pub. The staff were friendly and very helpful getting us seated and ordering food was very quick. If your in Rotorua and you hungry definitely stop in here you will be happy as a pig.

Ordered a Beer Batter Fish & Chips and a coke.
The fish was AMAZING, very well cooked.
Loved the curly fries, they were a good change to traditional chips and were well complimented by the salad.
Would have liked a bit more sauce and aioli, but that's only personal preference.
Will return.

Its a pub, fit for hot days and cold beer, or cold nights and hot food. There's a choice of traditonal indoor pub seating, or a covered outdoor area with spacious tables.
My partner and I shared a steak, salad and chips, with mushroom sauce, and pot pie with vege and mash. The food was cooked well, tasted great and was presented in a homely fashion.
Due to the portion size, I felt a food coma coming on fairly quickly after.

S.If there is only one place you go for dinner in Rotorua, this is it! Steeped in history and tradition; the food is amazing, the staff is excellent and the beer flows easily . A warm and welcoming atmosphere, equally good for families or later on for those looking to have a good time. The Moa beer is not to he missed!
M.Nice pork ribs and scotch fillet, pizza a little bit salty but over all is great. If come of two would recommend half size pork ribs instead of full size. Lucky we finished it, taste really good

D.I have a certain penchant for places with 'pig' in the title but this place certainly deserves it. It got its name from the fact that it used to be a working police station in the '60s. They serve plenty of Moa (which I learned was a flightless bird, from the bartender) brews for $10/pint each although this is $6 during happy hour! Friendly staff and great decor! Food was excellent as well and I had a huge portion. Staff also very efficient as my empty plate had been cleared by the time I went to the bar and back!
L.The service staff there are friendly! Great food and VERY reasonable price! When you are at Rotorua you should drop by! And the location is just at a junction ! Easy to locate! Nice draft beer and cider!

Y.Love their pork belly. Good atmosphere. Its a historical building. Used to be a police station. One star less because I think the drinks are dear and sometimes the salads that come with the meal taste old and tainted.
C.We went to the Poparazzi quiz night. It was extremely fun, but being Aussies there were a few NZ specific questions we just couldn't answer. Herbie, our host, was so funny and wonderful. He tried to give us a few sympathy answers, but it still wasn't enough to come up from last.... But at least we got a free T-Shirt (points for trying! lol)
Then we had their ribs for dinner! Oh. Em. Gee! plate was enormous and very delicious. I've eaten a lot of ribs and they are a podium finish in my books! Mouthwatering sauce that went well with the pig tail fries we shouldn't have ordered on the side.
Staff were so great! Katie (our server) was very friendly and had actually helped us out earlier that day with directions around Rotarua.
What a great final night in NZ. You guys would put a LOT of Aussie pubs to shame with those plates!
D.We've been here a couple times when in Rotorua, and have been pleased every time. We've only had bar-style food, so I can't speak for their wider menu, but the food we have had has always tasted great at a really affordable price.

I went there with my family because I had some vouchers, but its more of an adult's venue, although they do have a kids menu and the options for kids meals are nice and you won't be disappointed. They have a brochure on the table with the historic facts of the building, my son was impressed with that. Nice touch.

K.We went on a Saturday night and it was very lively with live music and people dancing! The food was good and the vibe was amazing. We had a lovely time. The only downside was that we sat in a corner without heating. It was very cold!! But we didn't want to move because thats the corner with the charging station. Hahah. Overall, great experience!

B.Serious Ribs here....We arrived starving from our drive from New Plymouth...The pork ribs were ordered .. The ribs arrived and they were HUGE,flowing out of the bowl.. I have never seen nothing like it in my life... Challange accepted I tried my hardest but only smashed through half the bowl....No problem as take home for snacks later. The price I thought was way to cheap compared to Australian pork rib feeds. If you are passing through Rotarua I recommend grabbing a rib feed . .... #porkfordays

Brought my food connoisseur friends from Christ church and they absolutely loved it from juicy burgers, actual crispy pork belly to finger licking ribs! Fantastic quick service ☺️👍🏻

L.Omg THE LAMB SHANKS! We came here mainly for the craft beers which were great but when we saw the roaring open fire, we decided to stay for dinner and we're so glad we did! The portions are huge and its melt in the mouth and with lots of mint sauce (a must with lamb!) The mash was full of butter and it was just a perfect meal! Great value for money and just delicious!
V.Great pub with really nice ambience. Difficult to find spot as it was super busy! Staff was friendly and able yo recommend a good local beer. The pork buns were very tasty. I will go again.

J.Superb. A fantastic venue with a menu to match. Constantly busy with a a friendly atmosphere and the expected range of drinks. My choice of lamb shank proved to be a very good one, but I also saw other patrons enthusiastically tucking into a wide variety of options. Highly recommended.

Poor presentation. Way too expensive for what was served.

J.Saturday evening Very busy with large groups was seated straight away, and we did not have a long wait for ordering to receive meals. Ordered share meal brisket (so tender)and garlic loaf for entree & burgers for main.Very fulfilling tasty meals had to ask for a bag.as ordered to much. Staff were onto it, friendly Thank you kitchen staff wonderful meals. Totally recommend the Pig & Whistle AWESOME

N.Probably the best pub in town. Atmosphere is always good, no matter if it's busy or quieter. The drinks are rather expensive, but you now get the option to order and pay for drinks using the QR code on your table - which is super convenient and saves you having to line up at the bar. The menu is varied and caters to most tastes, meals are delicious and portions are pretty generous.
D.So good we came back again the next day, be warned very substantial meals but very tasty, friendly welcoming staff, wish I had more time in Rororua to go through the rest of the menu.

j.We had a function there following a funeral, the arrangements for ordering and paying for drinks was in total disarray, given we had to be served due to covid restrictions, the payment arrangement was very poor, there should have been an mobile eftpos machine to pay as ordered, as this wasn't the case some drinks were paid for twice

S.We came down to Rotorua after Level 4 Lockdown as we'd never been, we were actually booked for elsewhere but a muck up occurred with them so we wandered around and stumbled upon Pig & Whistle, it was the best meal we had the whole holiday. The portions were amazing, food was amazing, service was fantastic, had the rugby on one screen & cricket on another. Can't recommend it enough, classic good NZ pub food, great prices, drinks were cheap also. Loved it.

H.First of all, the atmosphere with seating is excellent. I had a very nice Seafood Chowder to start with, the portion of the main foods are big too. Staff are very friendly as they tried to offer me a discount when they forgot a dish for me. But honestly I was very happy with the attitude of the waitresses they were really helpful.

M.You know what, I never like to eat out, and I struggle to spend money on food I can cook myself, but, gotta say. Pig & Whistle, your Bloody Awesome. I don't intend to, but I take it all in when I enter a new space, especially a restaurant.
Your staff were attentive right from us entering.
Toilets were lovely and clean, and loved how the atmosphere sort of transported me back to a past generation, really nostalgic.
Food was well priced, and presentation was faultless, and you got what you paid for, very tasty. Ryan and staff, we're, attentive and casually responsive. Keep up the great work guys, I will return 👍😆😎
M.Very nice. Love the name and the history. Our server was lovely, and I feel terrible for forgetting his name! The quirky beers were nice. Not all to my tastes, but that's half the fun of craft beer.

S.I have been here a few times and the food is always exceptional. The service is outstanding, it's always clean, the staff are informed and attentive and the manager is very good. Today, for the first time, we had a problem with some of the food, which is when you find out how good they really are. The manager remedied the situation quickly and without question. I was very impressed and this remains my rotorua favourite.
a.Best pub in town, join the Happy hour to get every pint for Just 10 bucks, and the selection of beers Is Simply superb. Food Is awesome as well (said from an italian counts twice). Whenever you are thirsty or hungry, don't go anywhere else.

A.Great place to eat in rotorua City center . Big meals plenty to choose from . Has winter and summer menu. Indoor and undercover outdoor eating area with heating . Great for large families.
D.This is a good late night spot to get food and drinks. They've got a great selection of beer and plenty of pub dishes. Their lamb burger had good flavors, too. The fish and chips were generous and tasted great; however, it had a bit too much batter on it. You'll need to order your food and drinks at the bar, but they're very friendly. It's definitely a cool spot to grab a drink and a bite late at night.

Large meals. The Pigtail Fries are a must. Great drinks selection, including a good choice of tap beer. Service excellent. The outdoor eating area is a big plus.

R.Busy pub, great service however steak was supposed to be medium/rear but it looked like it had been nuked - shoddy attention to detail. Ordered a kids traffic light drink and it was so syrupy as to be undrinkable. Apart from that it was ok.
T.A couple of muck ups, like our table being given to someone one else, the computers not working for our dinner order to be processed, and then missing one of our orders, but over all food was great, great prices, great atmosphere, staff were awesome and even gave us a round of drinks for the muddle up. M.We met some friends here for dinners and were pleasantly surprised. It was better than expected. We ordered the linguine and the ribs. Beware that the portions are huge so make sure you are hungry when you go here.
The pasta was very good but you will need a bit of time to get through it all. My partner finished off the ribs saying they were not a taste sensation but definitely not too bad at all 😀

C.Good for a pub style meal! Huge portions, so you definitely get your money worth. You could get away with sharing some of the main meals to make it even cheaper. The food is okay, not bad and not excellent, but that's what you expect at a pub, so no complaints. Okay beer and wine selection to keep most customers happy. No table service, just order at bar and pre pay and they bring the meal to you.
A.Huge portions and the fish and chips were really tasty (wouldn't say they were the best fish and chips I've had, but I definitely enjoyed it).
The actual pub itself is VERY expensive.
The food and one round of drinks ended up costing us $75 which is pretty insane really but we have no complaints as we thoroughly enjoyed it!

K.Delicious, one of the best places in Rotorua to dine. Has a pub-like atmosphere as the name suggests. The food portions were quite large, and a good match for their price. The children enjoyed their meals a lot. Especially the curly fries, they were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The only complaint I had was the time wait, we had to wait and hour after ordering for the food to arrive. Overall the food was very good.

S.Very nice atmosphere for a lunch in here. It was busy (public holiday weekend) and they were up front about a little bit of a wait for food. Turned up a lot quicker than we expected and we wouldn’t have even minded waiting a little bit longer, the beer choice is excellent.
P.Great atmosphere. The perfect pub grub for a wintery wet and cold afternoon/evening. Our soup of the day choice was excellent. Should not have also ordered a main. The 1/2 size fish n chips was huge. Couldn't eat it all. Thoroughly recommend. Only reason I haven't given it 5 stars was because the meal prices were on the high side for pub fare.
p.Wife enjoyed her schnitzel, but with the steak I had it was very average for the price of the scotch. The scotch was a cut from the neck end a bit tough but cooked nicely.
R.Free 1 hour street parking, nice atmosphere, nice staff and brilliant food and portions. We ate wings (recommended), lamb shank (recommended big time), and linguine which was delicious but the chicken was tough so they kindly and promptly replaced it as soon as we mentioned it. Great service would visit again.

Coeliac's, you will be well pleased to know that the waiting staff have no issues with discussing the menu and arranging Gluten Free meals. After 3 choices of mine and staff rigorously checking with the chief's I went with the Salmon, and it was amazing. You also need to try the Gluten Free Brownie, just YUMMY AS!!!
MOA's Rhubarb n Apple cider complemented the whole meal perfectly.
We olny waited 30min for our meals to arrive and Pig n Whistle was bursting at it's seams and priced really really well for big size meals.
Coeliac's - Go and enjoy an evening out with friends and family and the Pig n Whistle will look after you.
l.There were some okay beers here and the price wasn't bad but why hire a bartender that doesn't drink and has no idea what the beer selection or anything for that matter tastes like?? Bartender A said, "I don't drink so I can't tell you what anything here tastes like". The other bartender also had no clue what the beers were like, "I don't really like beer". Strange.
The service though, was excellent! I liked the staff, they just had no clue. It's no real reflection of them but instead the hiring manager!

M.The pub has a relaxed but lively feel. Sport shows on the TV but sound is muted, so you can watch or ignore it. The beer isn't cheap but is home brewed and the food is good, with ample portions. Great place to spend an evening

F.The food was good and delivered to the table pretty fast. The seating was comfortable, the menu had something for almost everyone and there were even a few tv's with sports on them being displayed.
The night I went there for dinner there was a band playing some live music and even though we hadn't payed for it because we didn't sit in the entertainment room, it didn't matter because we could still hear and enjoy the music all the same.
The staff was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was very friendly and informal. I'd definitely recommend checking them out.

The curly fries weren’t really curly fries but.. hardened balls of conjoined fries. Food really didn’t have much care put into it.

Burger, fish and ribs that we had were all really good. There is a good variety of craft beer and ciders available on tap at the bar, which we had with the food. I was there for four hours and served by other members of staff who believed I was over 18. Consistency between staff would be good. If you're over 18 and under 30, bring your passport as ID...or go elsewhere...otherwise a nice place.

L.Great food for anyone wanting a classic pub feed. Rating it 4 stars as in my opinion the food was a little bit pricey for what was given but hey, definitely one of the best spots in town.
S.Great place for a private venue. Platters of of food were great. Enough room for 15-30 people. Private bar for function room and a pool table in a seperate room, though its not very good so dont expect to do a pool competetion here.

J.Booked a big area for a 70th birthday lunch. Overall it was great with huge meals and a nice ambiance.. Wait staff were a bit short with us with one having an off-stage hissy fit for encroaching onto the next tables whilst we were standing around catching up (the whole place was close to deserted at the time) but it didn't change our experience. It would have made sense to take our meal and drink orders via table service as we probably would have ordered a lot more, as queueing for the one guy that was taking food orders was a long process. It certainly put us off buying another round of drinks so they could have up-sold a lot of they'd just been a bit more flexible.
t.Really nice staff, nicest food we have had and been in New Zealand for over a month travelling, it was delicious not pub grub at all, couldn't eat it all and lovely to have so much fresh vegetables can't understand why no restaurants give good quality vegetables we have missed vegetables.

J.Great place. The old police station now converted to pub and restaurant. Good selection of food and drinks. The only part I don't like is the garden bar when they have a singer.they must find the worst singers in town and they have the sound system so loud you can't have conversation

R.Meal was good apart from cold mash but service was disappointing. Had to order meal from bar then after first drinks order taken at table told by different waitress we had to go to bar to order drinks (although our meals had arrived), they missed out on more drink sales.
