W.It an ok place to stay could do with better internet connection and tv room or tv in the Rooms and pool to be up and running again but other than it good place to lay Ur head
T.This was a really nice place to stay at, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Each of the rooms had an en-suite bathroom. Kitchen facilities were excellent and even had an oven.
Originally booked for two nights in my previous stay but staff were happy to extend it for another and to let you pay in the morning
Writings on the wall were a really nice feature. The wifi is sometimes a little bit unreliable.
Great location only a few minutes drive from all the main shops and not too far a walk. Didn't get time to try out the pool which looked nice. Beds were comfortable . Would definitely stay here again next time I visit Taupo.
The only downside is that the wifi doesnt extend very far downstairs. So if you are in the bar there is no signal.
F.This was my favorite Hostel on the North Island! Tim was awesome! He helped us make our way around and told of us of all the great local spots for food, hiking, and Leasure! Great fellow! Super friendly and always in a good mood. A real pleasure. It's a cool way to meet fellow travellers or to relax. If you are travelling New Zealand on a backpackers budget or a Holiday with a bit of extra cash. I would 100% recommend this place! 2-3 mins from Downtown, the Actual Lake, Thermal Spa Park, and many others. Favorite Hostel hands down!!!
F.Stayed for a night only, so can't give a full review of the place. Came in towards the end of the evening and checked out early as per busy weekend schedule. Room (Twin with ensuite) was very clean and tidy. Got an excellent night sleep.
Wasn't immediately apparent from the booking site (was a last minute, 'night before' booking), lodge is predominately wholly a Back Packers (has no separate motel style units), Visitors are encouraged to leave their mark on the walls (like a guestbook), etc adding to the unique Character of the place.
Has food for sale on site, (as I came in relatively late, somehow missed it, would have perhaps eaten there if I knew about it) with apparently fairly reasonably prices.
Only issue was perhaps the smoke getting in through the window in the early morning from the adjoining deck. When I closed the windows, smokers, realizing that there was a room there, politely moved away.
Overall, an older style, eclectic, unique place. Can't reasonably fault it as a back packers.
D.We stayed here on two separate occasions doing our stay in and around Taupo. The owner is one of the nicest people I have meet in a country full of friendly faces. Very knowledgeable about the city. Highly recommend a stay here and a dip in the spa thermal park!
L.Great place to crash and chill for a while. The owner is a great guy, friendly and helpful. Lots of local knowledge and suggestions and very accommodating. The lodge itself is great. Clean quiet and spacious rooms. En suite facilities more than adequate with a great shower. Communal areas good, with a lounge, huge kitchen with multiple stove ranges, dining room and games room. Netflix included and WiFi was good enough. Decent quality mountain bikes are available to hire at a competitive price. The lodge is located very close to all the adventure things like the bungy and the falls and hot spring etc but that does put it about a mile away from the town centre and lake front. Various activities can be booked through reception such as the shuttle to tongariro crossing. Would highly recommend this place.
T.Very kind staff, quiet rooms, and close to everything while still being affordable. From here you can walk to the lake, the spa park, and Huka Falls. There is a fish and chips shop just up the street as well. Kitchen is a little small compared to other hostels, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it.
A.I must say, it is one of the most kind and clean Hostels in New Zealand!
Beds clean, kitchen clean, cheap and just a 10 min. walk to the pubs in Taupo.
I worked for a while in Taupo and so I stayed and also worked for accomodation in the Berkenhoff Lodge.
Do not miss the natural and free hot springs in Taupo!!!

Actually, I was rather averse to hostels because I had very bad experiences with them before. However, since nothing else was available, I decided on this hostel. The welcome was very friendly and the owner showed us the hostel. There is also a friendly tomcat that you can pet. My girlfriend and I had a room with a double bed and an attached room. Our room and the small bathroom were really very clean. The bed was very comfortable too. The kitchen is very well equipped and clean (but it is also due to the guests who have cleared everything away) There is a pool to cool off. The communal area offers a TV with Netflix, Youtube etc., a billiard table and table tennis. There is also a second TV with access to Netflix on the ground floor. You can also rent bikes on site (much cheaper than in town).
On our last day we were driven into town by the host and didn't have to walk with our luggage.
We recommend :)

Eigentlich war ich eher abgeneigt von Hostels da ich vorher sehr schlechte Erfahrungen damit gemacht habe. Da jedoch nichts anders frei war entschied ich mich für dieses Hostel. Der Empfang war sehr freundlich und der Inhaber hat uns das Hostel gezeigt. Es gibt auch einen freundlichen Kater den man streicheln kann. Meine Freundin und ich hatten ein Zimmer mit Doppelbett und angeschlossenem Zimmer. Unser Zimmer und das kleine Bad waren wirklich sehr sauber. Das Bett war auch sehr bequem. Die Küche ist sehr gut ausgestattet und sauber (liegt aber auch an den Gästen die alles stehts weggeräumt haben) Es gibt einen Pool zum abkühlen. Der Gemeinschaftbereich bietet einen Fernseher mit Netflix, Youtube etc., ein Billard Tisch sowie Tischtennisplatte. Es gibt auch einen zweiten Fernseher mit Zugriff auf Netflix im Erdgeschoss. Man kann vor Ort auch Fahrräder ausleihen (viel günstiger als in der Stadt).
An unserem letzten Tag wurden wir von dem Host in die Stadt gefahren und mussten nicht mit unserem Gepäck laufen.
Sehr zu empfehlen :)

Zu den Zimmern: leider durchgelegene Betten, keine Seife im Zimmer, keine Klobürsten und dreckige Toiletten, Toilettenpapier wird nur auf Nachfrage aufgefüllt, Mülleimer wurde innerhalb von 7 Nächten nicht gewechselt, verstopfter Duschabfluss und keine frische Bettwäsche...
