Stopped in on a Friday for some drinks and enjoyed samples of their whole range. We enjoyed all the beers - so it was kind of hard to narrow it down to one to take home (decided on a bottle of the East Coast IPA). Super friendly dudes that run the place too!

The brewery is only open on Friday afternoons, but we were (very accidentally) lucky enough to stumble in then! They only do beer to-go (you can buy growlers, half-growlers, or plastic bottles to fill, or fill your own bottle), but we sat and tasted samples of all of their beers, as well as some guest beers they had on tap. Hadley, Brad, and Niv seem to have so much fun with what they are doing. Don’t just go here to fill a growler...sit with these guys for a bit and chat about their beers- you won’t regret it!

I was passing through Timaru and tried the Ship Hop East Coast IPA at Hector Blacks bar on Sunday. Stunning beer, cloudy, fruity and hoppy. I wish they shipped to Auckland!

I am annoyed. I am outraged. I feel duped. I left Timaru and ultimately New Zealand for the micro-craft beer mecca of Melbourne because of the lack of such establishments for which I'm writing a review. In my absence this one such place has popped up and which I had the absolute pleasure of visisitng on a recent trip back. Hadley at Ship Hop was very helpful and super welcoming. Sensing my keen interest, we chatted over a few samples, chewing the fat and talking all things craft beer. I settled on the East Coast IPA @6.5% for $44 in an embossed glass flagon. Not only did I go home with a great beer on par with any East coast I've tried but also the fun challenge of trying to sneak the beautiful glass flagon in my 7kg Jetstar carry-on. I would proudly recommend this place to any craftbeer conisour (pretender) or someone wanting to try something new. Timaru has been screaming out for a place like this for a while and by the amount of happy customers coming in while I was there proves this place is a winner. 5 Shaka's out of 5 🤙🤙🤙🤙
