Have not been to the local in ages (25+ years)!!!. I was pleased with the menu and quality of the food being served!! There was a large group of around 30 traveling Morris dancers pull up in a bus, the wait time for our food was still on point and prompt!! Hats off to the kitchen and bar staff. Will be coming back a lot more for a beer and a meal when visiting my family still in the area. 5 stars.

Great local place to grab a beer. They even have hand pump beer that is not carbonated, very unusual but different style. Pizza quality had decreased from when we previously visited. Still has an incredibly wide range of beer on tap.

The Moutere Inn is always a good place to meet old bike riding buddies on a Sunday. Clair and all the staff are always very friendly and happy to see everyone. The food is great and well worth is as is the beer😁👍🏁

Fabulous place to sit out in the sun or under an umbrella. Great service, excellent value and presentation of food. Highly recommend the Pigs Head, don't be squeamish, it was exceptional - entree and mains sizes

Interesting old pub, went on a Sunday arvo and it was quite busy, staff were struggling to keep up a bit and I saw a few tables walk as they got bored of waiting. But other wise service was OK. Good selection of drinks and usual pub food. Smoking was permitted at the outside seating which was a real shame. There was only one person smoking but he was right next to us so we got plenty of second and smoke, almost rated the pub down another star just for this. Food was nice enough. Prices average.

Over 100 years old, it's a delightful old pub. Beautiful day. Sat outside and enjoyed beer tasting and a variety of food. Great experience.

It is wonderful place and restaurant. I just entered inside and I felt friendly atmosphere of this place. The staff is really awesome. The food and service is amazing. I was eating steak, but the portion was huge and it looked beautiful on the plate. I really enjoyed the time in this oldest pub in New Zealand and I wish I could come back one day. I definitely can more than recommend this place. I was very amazed how the atmosphere of this place is created by super nice people, who work here and also by customers who come to enjoy the time here.

Excellent food, friendly service, and authentic kiwi hospitality and setting. We love it here and keep coming back. Recommending the local wines, changing craft beers, the crispy pig's head, and the fig/hazelnut/ale cake! So good!

Went there one Sunday and had the fish and chips The meal was nice ....BUT there was far to much batter on the fish and the chips where more like fries like u get a McDonald's..

Pleasant lunch, needed to ask for a slightly less well done battered fish, but was very pleased with the replacement. Delicious in fact. And the salad was one of the best I have had. Delighted to find kombucha available. Disappointed only plunger coffee available.

Lovely Pub with friendly staff. The Bar food Was simple but well done just like it should be. Only suggestion maybe some more appealing non alcoholic drinks 😉 Definitely will visit the place again if not just to have another portion of them Chicken wings........

The Moutere Inn is a real treasure tucked away in Upper Moutere amidst beautiful rural scenery. Fantastic staff who really do treat you like one of the family and the food is absolutely excellent! Oldest Pub in New Zealand and so interesting to see all the history. Love this place.

Wasn't what we expected with this place being the oldest in NZ. Wish there was more of a story and theme. Other than that the beer was really nice. We had a burger an I have to say the burger to bun ratio was not great so was a really messy burger but the flavour was there. We will come back but only for drinks.

For the oldest pub in New Zealand, she's still looking pretty good. Plenty of outdoor seating with shade. A nice variety of beers on tap and showcasing a handful of IPA's. And grab a bacon and egg toasted sandwich to help soak up any beer.

Brilliant pub, and yes very good IPA and local music. Yes I'll be back for a proper meal, the menu looks amazing. What a prized spot with so much local wine.

Our booked table was waiting for us. It was a surprise that we had to order our drinks and our meal from the bar. Our meal was delivered to the table, the food was fair given that we ordered from the dinner menu not the all day menu. There are no frills here and I would reccomend the all day menu. Our meal plus dessert, two glasses of wine and 2 beers at $170.00 a tad expensive!

Unique bit of NZ history. Staff very knowledgeable. We rocked up at 5pm on a Sunday and it was humming. They have about 8 local craft beer and ciders on tap as well as selling wines from the area. They even have a off liscence. We just had pub meal of wedge which more than fed the two of us.

With a wonderful array of local wines and beers you are spoiled for choice. The food is just lovely and the staff are friendly and approachable. They have event nights and is alive with locals. Been here several times on my trips to New Zealand. Enjoy the atmosphere every time.

Great selection of craft beers. Crucially for a British ex pat, this usually includes a warm flat one. Just like home!

We went to the Moutere Inn, which claims to be the oldest pub in NZ expecting something a little special like many other historic pubs in this country. The bar staff were really friendly and the real ale was great but the place was quite run down and really didn't take advantage of its status and reputation. A missed opportunity by the owners who could turn this place into an obligatory stop in this part of the south island.

This is the oldest pub in NZ and feels historic as you walk in. When we went, it was just one person managing the bar and serving guests. So you order food and drinks at the bar which to me is not ideal. Huge portion sizes and my salad of halloumi with poached pear was appetizing. Although my choice would be to grill the pear.

Had a nice drive to the Inn. We enjoyed our meals. Will definitely be back.

Excellent food, Confit Duck and Pan Fried John Dory, great bread and amazing locally brewed beer. A must in the area and one of New Zealand's oldest pubs with dedicated owners. Love it, love it, cracking venue, And they sorted us with an amazing takeaway Cheese platter

Fabulous place for a beer and a snack or meal on a weekend

We stopped into the Moutere Inn tonight. Had to stop off at the oldest pub in the country! Had the local brew that was extremely tasty. Would like to try a few more in the future. We also enjoyed a meal. The food is outstanding. It is a cut above your usual pub food. You'd be hard pressed to get better steak or ribs I reckon. Top that all off with friendly publicans and you have a brilliant evening. Awesome!

My favourite pub in NZ, on a beautiful day sitting outside with one of the many local craft beers available is one of life’s true pleasures.

Excellent meals, using top quality produce. Innovative menus, fantastic service, with hand pulled real ale which was a treat.

Went with a group of 14,all meals came out at same time, food quality was excellent as was service,lots of great indoor/outdoor seating, will be back as a group.

We have just come back from a Friday lunch treat at the Moutere Inn realising the weekend there would be very busy. We go multiple times a year and always enjoy the food and service but they definitely excelled with the Oxtail Stew. With bone marrow dumplings!!!! OMG long may it stay on the menu. 👏👏👏😍😍😍😍😍

I really enjoy the steak night each month. 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for a great price in a great location. There's a curry night and music nights too. It's a great country pub for sure.

Brilliant historic pub, with great food and extensive wine list of local vineyards. Accommodation is showing its age but comfortable and clean. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Recommend a stop here for a drink and lunch. Plenty of outside seating ideal for the hot days we've been having. We all had beer and bowls of chips but the lunches and pizza that other guests ordered looked excellent.

A lovely traditional Inn with all the good trimmings for a good ole' pub. Their steaks and chips are fantastic as are their frequently held events such as Quiz night, curry night and folk night

I enjoyed a lovely lunch at the pub. the menu has some new summer offerings and I tried a few of the new 'small plates'. They were delicious and different to anything offered in any of the other local restaurants.

At last, a good old pub that isn't trying to be what it can't. Excellent selection of beers including hand pumped local ales, very friendly staff and a convivial atmosphere. Good food as well. The perfect Kiwi pub.

The oldest pub in NZ! and I can say the best pub I have been to in NZ with regards to BEER! Every time I have been, there has been a CHOICE of real ales as well as craft beers. Best beer in NZ if you strike it lucky.

A nice little place with a good local and domestic beer selection. The food seemed a little on the expensive side until we saw the quality of the ingredients and the presentation.

Excellent service. Stopped in quite late hoping for a cooked meal. Although kitchen was on closing, we were still able to order. We weren't rushed and were able to enjoy the evening.

We had the pub special of 2 steaks and a bottle of kahurangi save blanc. The steaks chips and green beans were delicious and cooked exactly right. This is a lovely pub with great atmosphere and location.

Proper traditional Pub - no gaming machines, no juke box or piped music, no Sky, no TV screens. Just a great range of proper beer - real ales and craft. A selection that changes monthly if not weekly. So superfantabulosa for those of us who like to drink different beers whenever possible. OK not good if you a drinker by choice of the likes of DB and Heineken etc. If the landlord appears miserable you should cheer him up as he deserves praise for what he is doing. Asking if he has any Lion Brown is not likely to go down well - and he wouldn't be alone there. Food is not haute cuisine but it's a PUB not a "bar" or restaurant and the staff are really helpful (I'm a vegetarian and very, very fussy eater). It has a great atmosphere and reminds me of several pubs I used to frequent back home in England. I put it in the top 5 that I've visited here in NZ over the past 18 years along with (in no particular order) Galbraiths in Auckland, Sprig and Fern in Milton Street, Nelson and The Free House also in Nelson

Thoroughly enjoyed the beer (of which there were many local options) and service (hi Taylor)! Food was on point too. Worth a visit. Going back next time I'm in the region.

Claiming to be the oldest pub in NZ (tossing up with the Duke of Marlborough at Russell?) the Moutere Inn is the real deal: not just an historic building but also a great sun trap, with local craft ales on tap, a whiskey selection fit for a priest, the best blue cod and chips I've yet tasted and a convivial atmosphere with comfortable but plain seating inside and outside benches and tables in three garden areas. I'm told the live music here is pretty fun too. A great slice of NZ rural life, worth a special trip from Nelson.
