A lovely building that has has a lot of history, which is available to read inside. Got the fries which were tasty and substantial for 2 - 3 people. Hosts an award winning "gold" gin which nicely reflects the area. The problem for me in this pub lied with the staff and their COVID protocols. For some reason, their masks just hung off their ear most the time and didn't check of vaccination pass to our ID, meaning we could just us anyones pass. Overall though, a nice stop, nothing too flashy.

I haven't actually been in there in years, but there used to be a photo up at the bar with a couple of dudes standing there holding beers waist deep in water because of the massive flood in the Karangahake gorge, maybe '82 or '83. Many years later again in the bar I chanced to hook up with a very nice local lady who shall remain nameless, but showed me just how friendly Waikino women can be. 10/10

A pleasant surprise after driving past so many times and saying we should call in. Beautiful old floor boards restored. Lots of room and great outdoor areas for the kids to play in and be easily watched and contained.

We often stop here on our way through the gorge for refreshments. It's a really cool old hotel with a decently stocked bar. Pool tables and a couple of outdoor areas makes for a pleasant place to break up a journey.

I love this place and always make an effort to stop in when I’m passing, which is not often enough! The Waikato Draught on tap is always cool and delicious. And I had the nicest chicken burger I’ve had in ages. Would highly recommend stopping in for a beer and bite to eat if you’re passing. The place is always spotlessly clean too.

Drove past after coming from Waihi, pulled in to look at the span bridge across the road, was hungry so went across and asked if the kitchen was open, ordered a spicy chicken pizza and fish and chips. Very friendly bar staff and the food was top notch.

Historic pub that's been beautifully updated. It's nice and warm inside with interesting interior, and is of course located in a picturesque spot in the gorge. The food was nice, plenty of beers available and the staff were lovely. Couldn't fault the lunch experience.

Old Tavern that has been given the sterile modern make over. So the place really lacks character and cosiness. The young staff running the place were great. The menu descriptions were better than the meals themselves. My group all agreed average.

We were doing the cycle trail and the hotel was on our route back. I was so happy to see a pub as I was super thirsty and tired. Staff were friendly, beer was satisfying and the fire place helped to ease my weary bones. We didn't eat, but the place was full and many people were having meals and that's always a good sign.

Love the atmosphere, enjoy the beer and love the hot chips. New repaint has revitalize the inside making it much lighter and brighter but still oozes it's history. We like stopping here on trips to Waihi to see family and usually stop here

Congrats on the restoration! I used to frequent the place 35 years ago as a young geologist. Loved the ceiling fans but needs more extraction fa s for the restaurant. Clothes smelt of fish and chips next morning!!

Fantastic Old World Pub... A unique place with photos and objects from it's history... (don't forget to check out the photos of happy patrons drinking beer at the bar waist deep in flood water.) Really well priced drinks and friendly bar staff and locals. Restaurant section with good hearty meals at old fashioned prices. Don't drive past it - this one is worth a visit.

Called in on a Saturday afternoon. The place was rocking. A mixed crowd. Family diners in the small restaurant at the side. Main crowd were local adults hosting a visiting team, in a Pool table competition. Outdoor tables in sun were entertained by a local guitarist. Lovely clean restrooms. We'll be back very soon.

Food was great, I had the beef burger and my mum had the steak. The place has been done up beautifully but possibly still a work in progress. The dining room needs a little more ambiance as it is still quite noisy (echoey) and very bright. Just needs softening a little. You could also hear about 3 different types of music from the bar, kitchen and dining room. I woild definitely go again for the casual vibe and yummy food! P.s. now theres a new winter menu!

Amazing, the place was humming today with a full pool comp going, a family birthday party being celebrated, the bristo food looked great with a decent menu to choose from. Biker trail riders and bikers in leathers all enjoying the indoor outdoor venue.

Refurbished Hotel in middle of the Karangahake Gorge Restaurant, Bar couple of pool tables. Only negative comment would be heat from the fire place did not really get to the restaurant area on a cold winter's day otherwise a nice hotel for a stopover. Really been done up nicely with a country atmosphere and it's history.

Country and Tourist pub, well presented, kitchen open until 3pm. Historic site with plenty of information on this old gold mining district. Access via a bridge from the Hauraki Rail Trail and plenty of off road parking accross the road, but be very careful crossing this busy road
