Reviews of Speight's Ale House

Very busy, slow service but waitress was excellent. I had the beef burger - the meat patty was a little dry. Others at our table had the steak, ribs and Caesar salad and enjoyed their meals …

Usually a big fan of Speights Ale House dining but I'll probably give this venue a miss next time. Could have just been bad luck but my steak sandwich was rubbish compared to their other sites and staff not very accommodating nor friendly. Again this is only based on my one experience and as a company Speights Ale House is usually awesome.

Lovely food, reasonably priced, nice comfortable seatings

The food is actually not bad, but it's just quite normal comparing to other much tasty dishes from certain restaurants. My wife has ordered pork rib, and it didn't have the "grilled" flavor and aroma on the rib, which makes the dish less delicious. I ordered the blue cod fish and chips, which is good on the tenderness of the fish itself and the crispiness of the beer batter, thus it's the one I would recommend to fish lover.
The environment is good and large enough to accommodate many customers. The service is ok but not that exceptional. In short, there are no obvious shortcomings for this restaurant, but the fact that there are still many better dining choices in NZ leads me to the above rating.

We accidentally stumbled upon this place while looking for a place that served early dinner in Wanaka. It has a very spacious dining and drinking area. The food, as far as we can remember, were very good considering the fact that they specialise in beer rather than food. We'll definitely consider going back to Speight's Ale House if we are ever back in town.

A great restaurant with really good food. The atmosphere was nice and the wait staff very friendly. Their signature dish of the lamb shanks was amazing. The seafood chowder was a little salty but still good. I really recommend walking to the end of the street for this restaurant. Also for the Chinese tourist they have a bilingual menu.

This is the best dinner we have since we arrived in NZ 3 days ago. We loved what we have ordered and totally enjoyed our dinner. Service is good right from the time we were seated till order taken promptly by a new male staff with a friendly attitude right till our meals were served.
Good portion of food served with reasonable price . I love my Mt Pisa crackling pork belly , it was really crackling good ! The mashed potato is one of the creamiest and tastiest I have so far. My son loves his Blue and Gold fish & chip and thinks it is one of the best he has eaten. My daughter loves her BBQ ribs and claimed they were finger licking good ! Hubby ordered Catch of the day which is Grilled Salmon and he enjoyed it too !
Overall our experience at Speight's Ale House is a wonderful memorable one .
Keep it up , People 😁

A fantastic place, lots of seating options for outside and in, also incredibly friendly staff. They don't do cocktails but they do have real bailies which was a first in new zealand for me to find. The burgers are amazing. The chips are massive, not fries as the menu states but still good. My burger was great - good quality beef and great sauces. Just really good food. Also they give you water at the table too. Very helpful.

Came here to eat twice while in Wanaka. Great environment with friendly staff. Can get really busy during dinner time, but can sit and order from the bar. Had the lamb shank and the pork belly burger, both really tasty with generous portions. Wife had the ribs and burger, also good. Tried several of their beers and they were all good. Would go back again.
