Frankly it's just a pub...but the difference is that all the staff are incredibly helpful, convivial and focused on service. For the short time I was here I felt attended to, appreciated and was offered the special touches (like a blanket due to the wind) because the staff were super attentive and considerate.

Awesome place lovely food highly recommend. We had the pork belly and Lemon peppered squid, doesn't look like much food in the photo, it was heaps for 2 people and so tasty. One recommendation provide colder iced water on hot days

Perfect day for food and drinks! The service was really good, everyone was attentive and we didn't have to wait long for anything. The food was delicious - the pita bread & hummus, seafood chowder and calamari were a stand out for us. Can't wait to be back over summer. Thanks guys.

Located on the waterfront Mac's Brewbar has a great feel and vibe. We had a toddler with us and they very kindly accomodated us with a table lower in the restaurant part. I heartily recommend this restaurant.

The food was below average with the fish crunchy and overdone, expensive for the size of portion. Felt like a kid eating out of those pathetic baskets. A shame when the venue and location is great just need the food to match.

Overall, nice place to dine. Visited on Sunday, food was tasty, but ultimately what made the experience was the customer service. We were served by a lovely person called Mamata, they were so friendly and went above and beyond for our table. For the love of God, give them a raise!

Great spot for family and friends right in the middle of town next to Te Papa. Asked for medium steak but received rare instead. Steak was a little burnt on the outside. Not a pleasant taste of charcoal. Wife ordered Fish and chips. Fish tasted a bit off and not as fresh as what we are used to. Kids had the brisket burgers and loved it. Best Kumara wedges ever. Not over cooked with the perfect texture. Customer service was top notch which made the experience better.

Hit the Brewbar for lunch and it was superb. Great seating with a view of the harbor and staff that made our meal a delight. Simple food served in quantities that won't overwhelm. My chicken burger was just the right size for lunch.

So we have finished with the tour to Miramar studio - in case you do not know, it's where all the CGI and special effects for LOTR were made. This is where Peter Jackson made the successful trilogy using New Zealand as base for the movie. Sean picked me up and we proceed to downtown where we went to visit his showroom and then walked to Te Papa museum. Everyone had a great time and by the time we finished with the museum tour, we walked over to this Mac's Brew Bar.. a popular craft beer place in Wellington. It's located in a very big brick building facing the waterfront. As the weather was windy and cold, we could not sit outside to enjoy the scenery. ◾Mac's craft beer - tasting set served paddle style, I love how different taste of each of the beer was. If I had the capacity I would like to try all.. but 4 glasses were already a bit too much for me. ◾chicken nibbles - essential chicken wings in either spicy buffalo style, chipotle BBQ sauce or honey mustard mayo. I took the latter because the small ones could easy eat it. ◾salt & pepper squid - lightly battered and deep fried to perfection! Served with nam jim dipping sauce & lemon, honey, mustard emulsion. ◾seafood chowder - whole pot of tummy warming goodness filled with smoked mussels, fresh fish & shrimp. Served with chilly corn bread which was perfect in the cold weather. Spacious joint on the waterfront offering a wide range of beers, pub grub & a popular patio. I had a great chat with Sean, as he has been a dear friend of mine for more than 20 years since college.

Informed from Te Papa worker great place to visit. We understand reconstruction work going on when we went. Had seafood chowder baked cheesecake. Food terribly disgusting. We had good time here. They have a very good options of beers to choose from. We loved the Mac's Gold. We didn't get many food options but the options that were available were good.

Awesome service. We were a large group, and the staff were very accommodating to get us a big enough table. The food was delicious - we could only order from the snack menu, as the restuatant kitchen was closed...but I would definitely recommend the ribs, chicken wings and fries. The fries come with a great sauce which is AMAZING tantalizing the taste buds. Great ciders are available - and the kids can even order a fluff. The atmosphere is great and just makes you want to stay a little longer. For the sport lovers - there are big screen TVs so that you can easily catch up on the sport of the day. All around a great place to be!

Jugs of beer, what more can you say!! When the sun is shinning what better than to sit here on the front and watch the world go by. The staff were supper friendly, the beers on tap offered a great range for every taste and you even have the choice of a regular or large jug. The place was clean and we even came back at the end of the day for another round.

Found this place by chance and so happy we did! Atmopshere was warm and inviting, staff were friendly but not in that 'i have to smile cos this is my job' kinda way, like ACTUALLY friendly. Got the loaded fries and the Korean chicken burger and they were both fire.

Highly recommended this pub 💕 we originally booked at another restaurant 6 hours in advance for 15 of us, but when we turned up they had the most unpleasant hospitality, so we left and came here with no notice. They were more than happy to serve our group, very accommodating and friendly. Fast and quick delivery of our food too! Highly recommended!

Had a great meal one night so decided to make a return visit. 7.30pm Sunday night told restaurant was closed but we could sit at the bar. We thought we were going to be offered bar menu....We wanted a sea view but were told no we couldn't sit where we had sat the night before as it was closed. We were offered full restaurant menu 2 minutes later but were confined to an area which didnt suit us....however we left and went somewhere else. We felt when a restaurant is on the wharf it's pretty natural to expect to get a view and sit by the window to look out. Sadly not the case at Mac brewery bar and although we had a lovely evening on the Saturday we will not be in a hurry to return.

Nice warm Wellington day as I was strolling the CBD. Lots of All White fans outside waiting to attend the games against Peru. Just thought I'd moist a nice local Kiwi beer. At$9.50 a pop for the glass of amber coloured beer. Refreshingly tasty and nice idea of providing bean bags for patron to basque leisurely in the sunshine.

Cool decor and nice location on the waterfront. Bloody Mary was surprisingly well done. I find it rare to find a decent one in Australia or New Zealand but this one was on point. The poke on the other hand was a total miss. Both my friend and I had it and I’ve never had a worse “poke” bowl in my life. He agreed with me. The only thing it shares in common with actual poke is rice. What we were served was lukewarm sliced salmon that was obviously meant for the salmon bagels on a bed of non-sticky rice surrounded by arugula, pecans, and mandarin oranges. There was no flavor, no sauce, not really anything positive about it at all. Poke is supposed to be diced/cubed, marinated tuna (although it’s rare to find in the antipodes so I accept salmon as a substitute), usually with soy sauce. I’d say scrap the dish from the menu entirely until you can get some real ingredients. The other food looked pretty decent and this would definitely be a cool place to get a beer on the waterfront. Prices were a little expensive but I can accept it’s due to the location. I’d come back for a drink but probably not the food.

Really good food on the higher end. Really nice platter and the perfect location right on the waterfront. The outside sitting area is also nice if you don't mind the Wellington weather. So of the food might be a touch overpriced but in the spectrum of Wellington it's not to bad.

Cool bar near the water. Burgers were good. Wasn't crazy about the seafood chowder (prefer American style clam chowder). Nice, hip atmosphere. Seat yourself, so be prepared to sit with other patrons. Margarita was delicious. A bit pricey compared to other places we've visited on our trip to New Zealand. Worth stopping in.

Large bar/restaurant on the harbour front also with outside tables. Mix of snack style meals, burgers, and mains, and a good selection of drinks. I had the fish chowder, and a pint of pale ale, the chowder was a generous helping and delicious. Service was very quick and efficient.

Their orange juice was delicious, tasted freshly squeezed. My main was average at best, my oven baked fish was supposedly market fresh, but was over baked so it was chewy and quite dry. I was told that the pork belly was lovely, and the steaks were slightly over done, but not awful. On a positive note, our waitress was fantastic, attentive but not annoying, and very helpful. All of the staff we encountered were friendly, and I couldn't find fault with them except that when our first waitress finished her shift the transition to the new waiter wasn't very smooth. This might not be characteristic of an average night though, as they had a large event happening in the main area.

The venue is reasonably nice and has an excellent location on the water front. The staff were friendly and service was reasonably quick. However the food wasn't much to write home about. Some people found there meals ok, whilst others were rather disappointed. They sell macs beer obviously

The chips here are out of this world, absolutely gorgeous! There's actually also a lot of choice for drinks which seems obvious being Mac's Brewery but I felt it still needed to be said. They do have odd hours at time, sometimes calling last orders at 9pm even when the place is busy so make sure you come here early. Overall, a surprisingly nice place and would definitely come back for those chips alone!

We waited around 40 minutes for our meals however upon our second round of drinks the waiter informed us the second round was free of charge to make up for the wait time which my partner and I thought was very lovely. Not to shabby! Brew bar is huge! Great for watching the rugby or a boxing match. The floor space is vast and I lost count of how many t.v.s I counted. Food is as expected, reasonably priced fish and chips, burgers etc. Plenty of different seating areas and board games for the kids during the day. Staff were attentive and they had plenty on. Will definitely be back.

Had a great meal before the six60 concert, was a great place to stop on the way, the sangria was awesome. It's so handy to the waterfront and the city and provides both outdoor and warm indoor options. The food is what you expect from a Mac's bar but the service here is also very good. It's a great option for a low hassle stop if you don't want to worry about not getting a table as they have plenty of space here

Mac's bar is a good bar, with decent fish and chips and well priced beer. It's got an interesting, eclectic interior of interesting things to look at. I once had a big session in here with my mates drinking and watching the original King Kong with its volume turned down. It's pretty cool :)

Frst day; We spent an hour or so quaffing beer and enjoying what was easily the best fish and chips either of us has ever consumed. We went back the next day! Have a seat outside, enjoy the ambiance and order the F&C. Trust me. Second day; We happen to be walking around waterfront trying to find somewhere for dinner and we end up again find mac's brewbar. So happy we stopped here for dinner the service in the restaurant was excellent very friendly and lucky for us we got the last seating before the kitchen was to close up. Our meals were delicious I had the free range pork belly just melt in your mouth yummy and my husband had macadamia chicken that was cooked beautifully. We will definitely be making this a drop in spot when we are in wellington next time. Third day ; We started well getting an outside table on a very busy evening. No menus to be found, the waitress eventually locating one between us. Good choice of drinks which came promptly. Two of our meals came promptly but the other was way slow. We chased it and it came 10 minutes later, clearly it had been missed in the kitchen. The staff immediately offered to take the meal off the bill. I settled for a free beer but that took 10 minutes to arrive by which time we had to leave so I only drank half of it. Unsatisfactory., I'm sure they can do better.

Pretty quiet on the Monday evening I visited, and they closed early as there were so few people about, so maybe check if you are visiting especially. Friendly staff, service was good, they'd stopped serving restaurant food so had a pizza, freshly cooked and tasted ok. Large setup is ideal for bigger groups, but it's also a good place to try some Mac's beers if it's just the 2 of you. Tried the restaurant once, have been eating happily in the pub since. Good value for money near the waterfront.

Try the tasting plate, an excellent and reasonably priced way to sample all of Mac's delicious brews. The bartender accidentally put through the wrong food order (pizza instead of wedges) but after they realized the mistake I got the pizza for free. Very nice bar staff and excellent bar food. We went there twice within 2 weeks I think it was. First time for lunch with out of town friends. They enjoyed the burgers, fish and chips were nice and husband who coeliacs had all day breakfast. Dessert, not a huge selection and cheesecake was sold out so had doughnut. OK, nothing special. Then back for father's day dinner on the Saturday and was going to be placed at same table we'd been at for lunch and asked to move as had been very cold Right in line with the door so freezing everytime it opened. Ordered breads and dips for starters and GF soup for husband and asked for it together. For some strange reason soup was brought out with 4 spoons and placed in middle of the table It was obvious that husband had ordered it for himself Daughter and I had mushroom linguine which was nice. Other daughter burger and hubby, fish and chips. Again desserts selection same as lunch. One daughter and I had the cheesecake which was available. Again OK. Nothing special Service was good but ages to have mains dishes cleared. OK I think for lunch and would be good place in summer or watching sport would have to think twice if going back for dinner . out

Great spot for hanging out for a few beers, staff are really friendly and you can't beat the outside area for some drinks and sun. I wouldn't recommend the food though, I've ordered twice here and not times have been sub standard. I got fish and chips last time, both the fish and chips were cold by the time they arrived (after 50 mins) and then the side slaw looks like it had been in the fridge for a few days, started to look a little off in colour. It's a pity considering it has so much more potential with its location, will only be having beers there from now on.

Mac's is a popular harbourside restaurant and bar. The bar snacks are ok without being world class but the restaurant menu is better. There is an outdoor seating area with chairs and bar leaners, but the seating is exposed to the prevailing northerly wind so this area is best on calm sunny days. Handy for going on to the Courtenay Place area.
