Gorgoues wee bar. I love how it is so unsuspecting and you can almost completely miss the entrance. It was incredibly busy when we went and we didn't get served for a wee while. They had a great 2 for 1 that is on every Wednesday. The dessert was amazing along with the cocktails. Would highly highly recommend 😊😊

Awesome experience. Great intimate atmosphere. Drinks were amazing and our group loved the deserts. Amazing service from the hostess. She took our whole tables order by memory, got everything right and was really friendly and knowledgeable! 2 for 1 deserts on a Tuesday too! 👌🏼

This cocktail bar is definitely worth a visit. It has a large variety of drinks to choose from combined with a really unique atmosphere. It can be a bit on the pricey side after a few rounds but you pay for the quality. I did not have any food so I can’t comment on that.

We did a cocktail making class for a hens party on Saturday. It was such an awesome activity. James' communication was excellent in the lead up and he was great on the day. There was a good range of cocktails and the food was delightful. Highly recommend!

Neat little hidden gem in the heart of Wellington. Missed out on the dessert but loved the variety of cocktail options. Had a delicious fire and ice and a margaritas, perfect place for adults to enjoy each other company. A little pricey but worth the experience.

Such amazing cocktails that we immediately wanted another. Sadly the waitress looking after us blatantly ignored us for 50mins even when we were standing right next to her trying to get her attention (she turned her back and walked away). Super guttered we didn’t get to try all the Easter specials like planned but we’re thankful for the amazing guy at the front counter.

Amazing atmosphere, fantastic range of cocktails and desserts. Had an amazing time. A little pricier than we would normally go for but the atmosphere with the live band, the overall look of the place and the delicious drinks made it all worth it. They also offer side rooms which allow for conversation as it can be tough to speak to your significant other over the live music.

Really beautiful place, stopped by after dinner for some drinks and dessert and had Luna as our waitress she was really friendly and helpful and gave us a recommendation for a amazing martini and a great poached peach chocolate tart!!! Will definitely be back.

High class cocktail bar up stairs and away from the crowds off Courtney Place in Wellington. They have a wide range of interesting and exquisite cocktails prepared professionally by their capable and friendly staff. Prices are reasonable given the high quality ingredients used and the level of skill and presentation demonstrated in their execution. The surroundings very pleasant with stacks of books on the walls and a relaxing vibe. Higher class of patrons too. Highly recommended.

Wow great atmosphere in here. Nice and cozy. And there is a 2 for 1 event every tuesday for dessert, wednesday for cocktail ! I had dessert which is cream brulee and sherbet. It was really adorable! Try your sweets. I been here for second time, it was super tasty!!! We had 4 dessert, 2 of each, evey each so fantastic! I really love this place. Cozy and lovely atmosphere, great service, it just so perfect.

What a cool spot. Almost like a speakeasy, but just not quite. You almost feel smarter just being in this place. Thats a thing; osmosis of knowledge just by being around books, right? A couple of drinks, some cozy couch setting that makes you feel like a show host in front of a crowd. We noticed on our way out, mondays was 2 for 1 desserts, so maybe next time itll kick off our week. Such a cool little spot. Vegan coconut icecream and sticky toffee pudding, was probably my favorite, nice balance of sweet, and sponginess. The Oops...i dropped it! Was probably one of the most playful fun dessert concepts i have ever experienced. Personal note, i’m not a fan of milk chocolate, so it was just ok for me. The berry jam/cordial was a nice touch of tartness.

What amazing service. All staff so friendly and lovely. Great atmosphere for special treat of a cocktail or dessert. Fries delicious. Drunken tiramisu AMAZING. Had the pansy mocktail, nicest mocktail I've ever had. Strawberry blonde mocktail was too sickly syrupy sweet. Is pricey but definitely worth checking out at least once if visiting Wellington or if money no object.

We were here for a post dinner feeding. Originally came in for the desert and got the fondue. Very well done and a good mix of flavors and textures, it had honeycomb, pretzels, bananas strawberries, dried fruit, marshmallows and the chocolate itself had an excellent texture and flavor. We also chose to get a mocktail (non alcoholic cocktail) getting the strawberry blonde which was probably a bit too sweet for my liking but for those with a sweet tooth would be quite nice. There was a live band when we went which just added to the experience (though they still had other music running on the sound system at the same time which was a little odd) Overall the experience was enjoyable with friendly staff, excellent romantic and authentic decor and theming.

This is situated upstairs on the fist floor. It's an old-style bar lounge that is popular with mature people. Excellent service, cosy ambience and is well located. The bar snacks are delicious and reasonably priced. We tried the warm olives--very good!

Amazing cocktails and lovely drams, an amazing quiet cozy hidey hole in the big city. Get amongst it, and definitely go for the 'trust the bartender'; you won't regret it.

Great atmosphere, and very quirky in a cool way! Bar and snack food options are available, but Library excels in cocktails and it's relax drinks (whiskey etc) menu! You'll find it via signage at street level, but it's next to the ever popular waffles hole in the wall. Up some stairs and through a door, it's a semi formal affair, but dress is not coded. You can be seated in a lounge style setting or up at the bar area, and go about enjoying your evening in relative style. Live music will keep you tapping your toes, and the establishment is quality!

I love the ambiance of The Library and what they offer but unfortunately had another very average experience . I have often found the waitstaff to be unhelpful but for such a busy place it can be understandable. The deserts were very average. The doughnuts were plain and definitely needed more Dulce De Lulce to make them enjoyable and our other dessert was also underwhelming so neither were finished. The pricing is very fair however it does seemly reflect the level of service and food. We were not told the two-for-one deal did not include everything on the menu and there is no mention of this on the menu either so only after paying we realized.

A classic cocktail haunt in a class of its own. True to its name, Library feels like a lot of nooks and niches to while away some good cocktails in relative peace. Utterly superb cocktail list and pours some very decent Whisky. Now an excellent choice for deserts with twelve different sweets to choice from including a giant crème brûlée, perfectly perched macaroons, and multiple chocolate options. Best to enjoy with people you like; avoid if you are cheap.

This place has become a staple in the cocktail scene of Wellington. The selection here is massive and what they don't advertise, they can probably still make. The vibe here has a buzz to it and being in the heart of Courtney Place means it's a popular stop at the start of Friday or Saturday town adventure. We went on a poetry night, so it was fairly crowded, but the hostess was able to quickly seat us at a larger shared table. The menu had a small selection of light bites and desserts, and then cocktails in several different price ranges. That's a nice break from the usual cocktail bar norm of having only expensive and very expensive options.I ended up getting a Fresh Prince, a refreshing sparkling gin cocktail, and then a dram of whisky, because the prices were surprisingly reasonable.

One of my favourite places to go to. I don’t know how many times I have been here over the last four years but it is getting up there. Great to go on any night of the week. A relaxed environment with candle setting. Sometimes they have live music which is always enjoyable. There is no where else quite like the library bar in Wellington. The range of imaginative drinks is outstanding. I have never had s cocktail which I haven’t liked here. Cheapest one is around $13 but def worth it. On Tuesday is 2 for 1 desserts and Wednesday 2 for 1 drinks. A great vibe and the staff are friendly. The books are a nice touch to do some light reading once and a while! Would highly recommend checking it out, wether a local or visiting Wellington! :)

The library is an awesome place to chill with friends and play a few board games. It has a wonderful alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks menu (great for sober drivers) and super tasty desert menu. I have been many times and have tried many of the items on their menus and have never been disappointed. Great for people with a sweet tooth. Staff is also very friendly. The decoration also gives it a nice home-y feel and its very warm which is nice in the winter. My only drawbacks, is that the place is very busy, meaning you might have to wait to get a seat on busy nights. It is also expensive for the portion that is offered of deserts. Even some of the drinks are too expensive.

We went here on a friend's recommendation, I had the Hemingway Mai Tai and my wife had the peach mule. Positive was there drinks were really nice, well presented and tasty. There service however left a lot to be desired, the staff were totally disengaged and it felt to me like I was either an inconvenience or not worthy of their time. The layout also packs people pretty close together if your a couple so with some very loud neighbors it was hard to have a conversation, we were able to move table though so it ended ok. Other + their wine list has some rear and interesting options.

Great atmosphere, comfy with dark brown decor and a wall of colour provided by shelves of books. Drinks were delicious, and the live music a treat. I did not have any food but my partner's meringue dessert was admittedly too sweet (but still edible). Would come again for a relaxing drink in a great atmosphere.

Love the Library! Such a great cocktail bar concept, with books in all sorts of nooks and crannies. Loved their cheese board - my first real understanding that blue cheese isn't all that bad if you pair it right! Best to go on a Tuesday as they have 241 desserts. The cocktails are about average pricing $14-$20 depending on the type of cocktail you order. Staff are great and friendly, table service is offered, or can order from the bar. Only down side is sometimes can be a bit noisy when they have live music and you are seated near the band! Overall definitely recommend

Hands down my favourite cocktail bar. Excellent staff, well-made drinks, great 'personal library' theme. People have their first dates here. Very popular with students on Wednesdays due to '2 for 1' cocktail deals but the staff are very accommodating and actively try to seat everyone. Awesome dessert here as well. I recommend calling ahead to secure a table if your group is large.

I love this little bar, it’s wonderful that it has been going for so long, i came here 10 years ago on a holiday, and now living on the south island love to come back. Some of the cocktails are quite intense, i had a whisky one that was super smoky and not to my taste but that’s a personal preference. The cheese boards are ace.

The staff are always lovely and we never wait long for our drinks! They have an extensive selection of beautiful concoctions including non-alcoholic cocktails. (Great for the sober driver!) The Library is fun and relaxed and refreshingly different. If you're a whisky officianado like my husband you'll find some rare gems here. Overall, I recommend if you like or feel in the mood for something a little more stylish and exciting than a pub experience.

What a fantastic idea, a bar set in a library styled environment. This place pumps, the staff are excellent. Fast friendly service and a great section of single malt scotches. We really enjoyed our night.

Super cool bar with excellent cocktails. We popped in here for a drink before catching a show at the opera house. The walls are (understandably) lined with books, the vibe is perfect, and I would happily work my way through their cocktail menu and never be disappointed.

Perfect place for cocktail, cocktails are anyway bit costly so this place that way follows the same costly affair. Accessibility: no lift so if you have anyone accompanying who needs lift access then it’s better to give a call to check if there’s any arrangement. It's warm and cozy. Always a waiting list. Quite pricey but it's a bit different from the rest of Wellington so worth a visit. No smoking area and sotting near the bar can be quite noisy and busy, however, there are some lovely quiet corners.

I also asked for water and was served cucumber water (which I can't stand) without being asked if that was okay. Met there at 6pm on Monday to celebrate my dear Dianne's best friend, Catherine's 61st birthday. Catherine shouted cocktails for all - Dianne had rose buds, Catherine had Sea Salt & Caramel Fudge Martini, and Jane and Joe both had something with tonic water. I asked the bar staff what's the best cocktail she can make. Without batting an eyelash, she said Duck Fat Sazerac. I just loooved. It's easily the best cocktail I had in a year! Even better than James Bond's shaken-not-stirred dry martini I had at the Heritage Hotel Manila last month, I had to get-up and thank the bar staff personally. Obviously satisfied with our cocktails of choice, we ordered a second round, and was again blown away. The fries and squid, both with aioli, were above average. The service was OK, we're not blown away. The water tasted funny, according to Dianne, I had to ask them to replace it with bottled sparkling water, just plain sparkling water, no lemon wedge or strawberry or any contaminant to alter (enhance?) its flavour. We later discovered that the funny taste in the water came from cucumber. Dianne blurted out "YUCK, who puts cucumber in water!". In fairness to The Library, Joe and Jane loved the cucumber-laced water. I hated it! I find no reason why anyone would introduce a contaminant in drinking water, a common practice in New Zealand. Catherine couldn't care less about the water. Pour moi, dans l'ensemble, quatre étoiles.
