Food is good, stuff were nice, but better not to go by yourself, because they expect you to grab cutlery and napkins by yourself, which I couldn’t since the seagulls stared at my food all the time. I ended up acting like I was an angry customer by yelling excuse me to a waiter who was far from me so I can get cutlery and eat like a proper human. And glad I always have some napkins in my hand bag.

If you are in the area, Must visit place. Great views, friendly service and can enjoy your choice of good food and beer. If you in Whangarei it may be 30 min drive but worth it. I love these country side places.

A lovely place to be on a sunny afternoon. Food was great. The service we received was excellent. The waitress was happy in her work, polite and attentive but not pushy with drinks orders. Overall a very pleasant experience

I have been here on several occasions, fantastic setting with sea views with Manaia in the background, lovely friendly staff and service, delicious selections from the menu, highly recommended.

Amazing food awesome service and fast Kai delivery only waited 10mins for our meal and the restaurant was full 5+stars highly recommended 👌

Nice place to stop by and grab some food.. We have our dinner here after back from ocean beach and was nice. The calamari and salad was yummy.. The view out site was beautiful.. Worth to try... Cheers..

Came for dinner and it was busy (Anzac weekend) and had a good atmosphere. Staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. If you can score a seat outside, the views are definitely worth it. Went for medium pizza, was sufficient for me but if you are hungry, would go for larger pizza. Decent selection of beer, Asahi on tap.

Parua Bay Tavern is a great spot for a cold one and a nice meal with seating both inside and outside over looking the water and the boats zooming around. Awesome to relax in the sunshine and watch the day disappear. Pool table to knock afew balls around. Parking on both sides of the road. Well worth stopping in after a day at the beach.

Parua Bay Pub (called that 50 yrs ago) when it use to be my ‘local’. First time back last week and it was amazing. Beautifully upgraded, food superb and service the best. Whole place was absolutely packed and a hive of activity with families and children enjoying themselves. The staff and service were A1 and made you feel like a person and not just a number to wait on. Highly recommend this outstanding place. Will certainly call in again if ever back again from Cambridge.

Average pub food - if you are after a few beers and something to go with it, it will work. However do not expect fine dining. My scotch filet, which was supposed to be medium, was well done; my wife’s chicken salad was drenched in the dressing. Fast food.

Second time in ten years dining here and every bit as good this time as last. Great outdoor seating with a lovely outlook, helpful, friendly attentive staff, clean bathrooms, and best of all, really lovely food and good drinks for a very reasonable price. Wish I was a local!

We've been here twice now, and I don't think we will be back. The available tables had food and drink spills on them. I felt it was not clean. I did not see anyone clean the tables during the entire time we were there. The tables were bussed, so no dirty dishes were on them. Just dirty tables. We managed to find one table, sadly in the sun, that was clean enough to sit at. If it weren't for the fact that we were over hungry we would have left. The service was fine, nice people and it was very quick to get the food. The food was not at all what we were expecting. We ordered a thin crust garlic pizza. Now this could be a cultural difference but when I see a garlic pizza on the menu, I'm expecting a pizza with sauce, cheese and garlic on a thin crust. For us this was basically cheesy garlic bread. It was not thin crusted and there was no pizza sauce. It was, for all intents and purposes, garlic bread in the shape of a pizza. I will cut them a break as I'm from another country where pizza always has sauce (unless it's a white pizza) and thin crust is thin. Like I said the servers were good, unless it's their job to wipe down the tables, then that's their problem. But they were very nice and professional. I can't even remember what we ate last time we were there but I do remember being very disappointed. But we thought that we should give it another try. Every restaurant has its off days, it just seems to be this one just isn't a good restaurant. I really don't like leaving a negative review, but in my opinion it's deserved. **The owners got back to me about my review, which I appreciate. It was explained that they had many staff in isolation, they were short staffed. I've been in the restaurant business for many years in different countries. I also worked in Auckland at 2 different restaurants (at the same time). I really understand being short staffed. But in my experience cleaning tables is a very important job. Presenting your restaurant with dirty tables is a huge issue. Besides it being not nice to look at, it's unhygienic. Especially with COVID out there and you having staff that's come down with it. In my opinion, that should be a top priority. Like I said in my original review, the pizza thing could have been a cultural difference. It seems that's the case. Which is why I'm changing my rating to a 3 star review. Thanks for replying to my review.

Great food, awesome staff.

Very nice place, friendly staff and simple vut great food! The honey garlic soy salad and the beef burger where my favorites, together with the chocolate brownie. Gluten free and dairy free options available, too!

Great service! Quick, friendly and top class food. I got the salt and pepper squid, one of the best I’ve had ever. Nice chilled cider on tap, so all the ticks for me. Breath taking views matched with a really relaxed atmosphere and spacious garden. Highlights apart from the obvious for me was being dog friendly and having staff that wanted to say hello to him and give him rubs haha. Can’t wait to go back.

We stopped here for food while hiking around the area. Great location and beautiful outside area which the day we were they had a band play. We enjoyed our meal we choose and even though it was busy, the food did not take long to arrive.

A spectacularly beautiful spot a few minutes from Whangarei. Tasty meals and desserts, served up in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Would certainly come back to visit!

Lovely food and a cold beer nice place to have lunch with family

Chicken/bacon burger was a hit. Squid a hit. Nugget n chips got the stinkeye from my youngest. Can't fault other than my lower kid review. Worth a drive from Whangarei. Location & view 🤹‍♂️

Food was out withing 15 minutes even though it was really busy. The staff were really friendly and their presence was felt. Really highly recommend to try their food. The atmosphere was great too. And the views are amazing!!!

Was taken for lunch there on my 70th birthday last Sunday. I can't rave about my experience there enough. The wait staff were so friendly, humorous and efficient that they made it a meal to remember. I also can't speak too highly of the food either. My friend and I shared a pizza plate to begin...crisp pizza base wedges with olives and a fantastic dipping sauce. Next I had the surf and turf. What a meal! The steak was cooked to perfection...the whole dish was superb. My friend had a salad which she said was perfect with the right amount of falafel. Thanks for a wonderful experience. I can't recommend the Tavern highly enough

Great place to visit and enjoy the views with its large outdoor aeras gets you right on the waterfront, really good meals and local brew on tap.

Parua Bay Tav is always a good choice for a lovely lunch, and we had our work Christmas do there yesterday. The staff did an outstanding job with our large and raucous group, despite table service and communication being made harder by masks. Glad to see the vaccine passport in use, making me feel safe and relaxed. Thanks team, see you again soon!

Celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary with lunch by the water. Not 5 star but was exactly what my parents wanted. Family and friends had a great meal. Perfect setting.

Lovely outlook over the Bay, yachts and boats at anchor, fish and chips are great, as are the pizza's

Went there for the first time on a saturday evening. was very busy. would advise booking ahead. Found a table for 5 inside main restaurant. There were plenty of tables outside though on the deck and on the grass overlooking the bay. Beautiful location. Reminds me of a British gastropub. car park is opposite. Take care crossing the road, its a blind bend. Lots of ales on tap, one locally brewed. $7 a handle. The usual wines and spirits. Menu not vast but should be something for everyone. Good value for money. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was as described, hot and plentiful. Will go again. Apparently they are much quieter in the winter. Carpark ample seating inside and out (covered) conservatory and deck dogs allowed outside clean toilets no intrusive music eftpos books and magazines disabled access to garden via side gate but steps up to deck small kids play area Wifi

Always a great adventure coming in from the Harbour. Love being able to jump off the boat and eat. Awesome time

This is a great place to go for gourmet pizza eaten on the deck watching the sunset. One of the 'must do's' if you live in or are visiting Whangarei. I loved the seafood and the vegetarian pizzas - crispy base, plenty of cheese and perfectly cooked toppings.

Great food great service great atmosphere. Definitely better to head over here when it's sunny as the outside seating is A+

Great place to visit as it is a beautiful drive along the coast only 15 minutes from Onerahi (airport ) - this trip is worth doing even if you are not going to the Patura Bay Tavern. Fantastic location, nice fresh tasty food always well presented. Great owner and nice, friendly staff. Always super kind to my elderly dad. Very accommodating, nice food too. I miss the chip portions though. Went from heaps on a plate to a "better looking" metal basket with next to none in comparison. Recommend swapping back. Small gripe though haha, place is lovely. They can accommodate big groups.

Just LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Outstanding location, beautiful scenery, great staff & really fast!! The night Manager who was on the 1st night we went to dinner was phenomenal (I heard them call him Lance I think it was) so bubbly, helpful, efficient and happy. The meals were yum and locals seemed pretty friendly. They utilize all of the space that they have so well. Impressive is an easy description😊

For a summer Sunday afternoon bar, it doesn't get much better than this one

We went for a family late lunch ( 3pm ) Saturday, 4 adults and 2 kidlets. Not too busy at all. The food was excellent with generous portions. They were more than happy to make the kids lunches earlier to give them time to cool down. Entrees for 4, 2 kids meals, 4 mains and 2 desserts plus 3 rounds of drinks for just on $200. The meals are very generous too. Fantastic people working there, nothing was too much. We were there for over 2 hours just relaxing and catching up. A good safe outdoor play area, toys, colouring books and coloured pencils inside for the kids. I highly recommend this awesome pub.

Second time eating at this great place. We had a party of 12 and the service was great. The food was exceptional with everyone receiving meals together. The venue is clean and spacious with lovely outside areas to sit and relax. The views are fantastic. Highly recommend the fish and chips. All steaks ordered came perfectly done to each persons taste. Will definitely return. If you have not been you are seriously missing out. :-) AAA*****

Stunning Views Over The Bay. Great atmosphere very lively with locals. Good choice of drinks, service friendly and good. Menu sufficient but limited, the location makes up for all. Despite a huge party taking place the food still came quickly and was very good. We were there with friends who were locals who recommended the chicken salad to me which was indeed delicious and my partner, who had been looking forward to steak and ale pie as on website was a little disappointed as its no longer on the menu- so he had fish n chips. All of us enjoyed our meals. Apparently the menu seldom changes and even the specials become repetitive.None the less very enjoyable early evening dining.

We were tourists on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed with a local event, but our lunch arrived within 15 mins and we sat outside on the lawn overlooking the bay. Throughly enjoyed this pub

Stunning location. We got there around 11.50 am on Easter Saturday and there were plenty of tables to choose from. Within an hour the whole place was full! Was really grateful we got there early as we had excellent service and a great choice of tables. The food was really tasty and was served in good time. The atmosphere was brilliant with a laid back vibe. Just can’t fault the place ❤️

We had a fantastic birthday celebrating last night that was very last minute. These guys were amazing there was 9 adults and 5 kids.. Fed, watered and entertained in 1 1/2hours. Food was delicious bar counter meals and staff were very accommodating. We will be back. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Visited Parua Bay Tavern today for lunch and I have to say that the service was exceptional. The food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering and tasted delicious. I would highly recommend.

This is one of the 'diamonds in the rough' of Northland, they have a jetty for the boat, garden bar & covered seating with a 180 degree view of the harbour. Reasonable prices for gourmet quality food and definitely kid friendly with the pirate ship. We got the largest pulled pork pizza and was almost too much for two adults. A ++++

Amazing location. Excellent views. Meal nice but small for the price. Nightclub type of dance music not really suitable for dining at 7pm on a Monday night. I have been here many times in the past, this experience was not my best, but I will go again for the location & because I know they can do better.

Visited the Tavern for lunch while on our Long Weekend break. The views off the waterfront from the deck and garden were really nice. The menu selection was good and the good was well cooked and presented. Service too was very good with all staff very polite and courteous. When I'm back in the area, this will definitely be a stop for lunch.

Meals were Amazing and Thank you to Management for going the Extra mile for our Birthday celebration. Just a encouraging word for some Staff a Smile goes a long way. Customer service is everything in this industry

Great place to grab a bite. The squid is always fresh and the fish and chips a large tasty meal. Views are stunning. It's always busy but we have never felt we have waited too long for our food.

Best pizza ever!!! I've been working in hospitality almost 20 years, over 10 years for Italian cuisine in UK and Australia I never had a better pizza! Very reasonable prices, friendly staff!! Highly recommended.

I'm fussy when it comes to really good Calamari, I said as I was leaving. . " I will definitely go back again for it". Pizza was really good too. Manager was really friendly so was the staff. It was a buzzing place. Great sea views from inside and out. Thank you for a great Sunday lunch.

A place worthy of celebrating at, after a hike of the beautiful mount Mania. Glad they have ample parking. Situated right next to, well, Paura bay, the view is plain amazing. Awesome beers on tap, and their wood fire pizza is splendid. Must visit when in Whangaei.

Great food, awesome atmosphere. The wait staff looked a bit unhappy though. It became a but of a joke between our group. No smiles, no perkiness.. it was a bit odd to see.

A friend and I decided on your creamy seafood chowder today and sadly we were both disappointed. While the creamy taste was good, there was a lack of seafood but lots of potato. No fresh fish just 4 tiny shrimp and about a slither of a mussel half the size of my little fingernail. Nice toasted bread and great chips. Regards Judy

Lovely food, great service, great atmosphere

Food especially their cheesy garlic pizza was divine. Burgers weren't bad. Good selection of beers and other drinks. My family many generations ago used to run this place and I'm proud that it's still going strong.

Great location with wonderful views overlooking the bay, a varied lunch menu selection available with all the usual soft drinks, beer, wine etc. I chose a medium pizza for lunch, was disappointment when it arrived as it was more like a small than medium. Apart from that it has a good selection of fair sized topping. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Enjoyed some time with friends at the tavern. Food was lovely.very busy as Easter Weekend, almost no seats left inside or out.

Great food at very reasonable prices. Better for smaller groups. Outdoor heating during winter is a nice touch and great views of the bay during daytime. Small outdoor smoking area and very popular on a rugby night.

Was recommended it by my wife's uncle who is local. Was a windy day and a lot of road work but was worth it. Went for a quiet lunch. Food was really good and the view was great.

Fantastic view of the water, great quality food at affordable prices and with a nice range. Occasional live entertainment and pool table/s make it a place well worth going to whatever the occasion. Able to make reservations or just walk in and eat at most times. Plenty of available parking if you turn left at the street just past the tavern coming from town.

Great food, great vibe, great location, and great staff. Be careful if coming via boat as the tide can get quite low!

Brilliant place for a work function

Nice setting, but prices for beer have gone up too much there now so we don't call in while cruising past now. I can buy a 350 ml bottle of larger for $1.80 and they charge about 5 times that for one. Food is great, veiws are great.

My go to for when we visit parents in law !! Omg hands down the best tavern in Nz. The seafood chowder is my absolutely top chowder. Full of goodies and the perfect texture. Service lovely. Place outstanding.

Good atmosphere and good pub food

We have just recently moved to the area and have been meaning to stop in and check it out as it seems so popular and is always full when driving past . Had a friend up staying with us so took him to lunch on a perfect sunny day. Bar staff were friendly enough however seem very confused on which areas were open for patrons. I had requested to sit out on the lawn tables which had the umbrellas up and looked a perfect spot.but said it was closed for renovation i checked again that i meant the grass and not the patuo which looked under repair but was still told it was closed,however through lunch other people had sat there and were being served. Beef burger was $20 and came with about 8 fries in a mini basket. Food was good however for the money it could have had more fries.

Fabulous spot. Great service... even though we drank no alcohol! Young ladies at bar were delightful and went the extra mile when serving us pizza chips and hot drinks. Wonderful!

Location and views are great. They seem to have access to super fresh ingredients - fist and lettuce were as fresh as you can get it. So it is a bit of a pity to see how the chef does no justice to the quality ingredients. Food is 'simple' but not in the nice way: gunard was covered in so much butter you can hardly taste anything; cardboard-like tasteless buns for burger.

When it's open it's friendly relaxed place to have dinner and they cater to functions. But they don't answer their telephone and you have no idea when they are open. It's a long way to go to find out they are shut. It's a pity. They have outside tables. So good in summer with beautiful views and extremely child friendly. we went one Saturday night and they weren't open. Which pub is not open on a Saturday night?

My Daughter took me here for lunch as I was visiting from Wellington. The Chicken salad was the best one I have ever had and look forward to coming again next time I'm up that way, thanks for the enjoyable meal

Great place for a drink and food. We stopped in for a beer and late lunch to catch up with friends. The place was busy with summer trade but the staff were happy, food was quick and tasty and best of all the beer was cold. I'll be going back

Awesome place to escape to from town, the place is situated in such a picturesque surrounding its just so stunning! Food is always amazing and the atmosphare in the pub is great! Staff are also real attentive and super friendly, this is definitely one of my fav places to go. Best place to go to for sure!

Lovely food but too big serving. Would appreciate smaller than full adult meal but more than child size, ie seniors with inbetween price. Surprised no eateries have cottoned on to this as most diners over 50 or 55 prefer smaller servings. Excell service and surroundings.

Went here for my birthday - fantastic views, great food. a bit out of the way and all the best seats were booked out, but we were last minute arrivals to be fair. We had a fantastic evening.

Salt and pepper squid is the bomb! Views are fantastic, be sure to enjoy a walk down the wharf and dip your toes on the ocean. Pool table was a lot of fun.

Food was very tasty but a little expensive imo and a bit of a long wait. The staff were very efficient but not very friendly. So nothing particularly bad just nothing overly impressive either. It was a busy day though so maybe that was a factor?

Good food and drinks but disappointed my daughter tried to book a table a week before and was told she couldn't reserve a table only to arrive and see at least 6 tables with Reserved on them ?

Imagine a bay. Then imagine a wooden tavern on its shore. And inside a charismatic host Tom making sure everybody has enough drinks and food. Historic set up and good wine selection. Pizzas, fish and chips, good salads.

Food good and service very quick but the seating and table was left a mess and one of our party sat in some kiddies chocolate and ruined a pair of slacks.

Went there for a late lunch with my wife. Great food, both fish and chips and aged Angus steak were delicious. Will come back every time I'm at Whangarei Heads.

Parua Bay Tavern is always great - good service, friendly staff, and great food. I had the Angus beef pie, served with salad and chips. The pie is like a casserole stewed in Monteiths (soooo tender and delicious) with a lovely pastry shell cooked over the bowl it is served in. The salad was fresh, and the chips hot and crispy.

Been the local hit for years and always a goodie. Great food, great people and great location. A must for any sunny day 👌
