E.Thought it was time we tried this little pub out in the country side. Had heard good things about the food. We were not disappointed…the food was excellent. Hubby had the Pork belly burger and I had Oysters with salad. Truly superb. The service was exceptional.The staff very friendly & helpful. If you feel like a drive into the country I recommend you stop here. Many thanks Paparoa Hotel, it’s 5 stars from us.
T.Enjoyed a nice meal here on Jan 3 - the chicken burgers were great! I liked the Ruawai kumara fries too - never had them in that style but it works well.
Everyone wanted an outside table out of the sun. The manager said that a larger group requested to take our outside table since it was in the shade - we agreed to help the manager out. He was a really nice guy and comped our drinks as a thank you. His interaction with a new staff member was nice to witness too. He was complimentary of her work, reassured her that she was doing a great job and seemed like a great manager to work for. Thumbs up to him.
The inside bar is quaint, exactly what you would expect a kiwi rural pub to look like, which is great!
A.The flat we stayed in was homey and just the right size for us, had a lovely garden and a view at the back. However, we were not happy with the blue smelly couch which reeks with a foul odor, almost like animal pee. It was not pleasant at all. We asked for it to be removed but our request was not actioned. Also, the place needs to be aerated as the rooms have a musty odor as well.
M.Had a lovely meal two weeks ago and again this Friday just awesome food and really well priced. Will call in Sunday Curry night on way home. Staff very helpful, polite and attentive can’t fault them. Will call in and have a meal when we pass through

V.Amazing trip back to the 50's!! And again a year later....the food is divine, the service excellent and the Gin that was made for me was the best I've ever had. Can thoroughly recommend the Thirsty Tui!

c.I had a fabulous Indian chicken curry on Sunday night. Just must say I love coming to the Thirsty Tui. They know how to take care of their patrons and turn out fine food. Service has got way better over the last year. I like how they offer different foods during the week. However my only whinge is I'm not 100% sure you need the TV in the dining room. Just saying.
V.Stopped for a pre dinner snack and GT and beer. They had an extensive menu, something for everyone. We had a tasty Indian platter with chutneys. Tasty flavours. Cant wait to revisit to try some more dishes.

L.The food was nice. The service today was very slow, and we waited for a while to get our food. The Manager was kind enough to offer us a Free drink while we waited for our food which was really nice of him. Yes we will be back for sure.

R.Popped in when on a day trip from Whangarei, and will make this a destination next time. Really nice, well presented retro 1950's tavern with a authentic decor, on point graphics, choices of dinning room, garden bars, lounge bar, and old school public bar with amazing fishing photo wall. Plus really good food, with a great selection from $8.50 sandwiches (ham was 😋), to meals. Something for everyone.

M.Very good place to have a good meal and the prices are not too expensive for the meals are cooked and the service is fast and the fact that we had a group function that they catered for all that attended and the whole team deserve a 5+ in the excellent quality and range on offer I would recommend this business to anybody else that is passing through Paparoa Motel State Highway 12 to call in and check out the other offers they have excellent accommodation for those who've had a few to many ales and stay the night before heading off on your journey.

M.Such a gem in the middle of nowhere. Our room was perfect for two nights and a great place to watch the America’s Cup each day at 4pm. We were looked after so well during our stay by Pratik. He was always looking out for us in the bar and restaurant. The food was amazing!
Would definitely recommend staying here. Close to beautiful beaches and the Kauri Museum.

N.Lovely friendly service, food was great and good selection (as opposed to the usual pub grub). Sampled the local wine also which is delicious and the garden bar was a nice place to sit and relax.
S.We stopped at the pub for a break from our drive back from Dargaville. We only stopped for 30 minutes and only had a drink and used the facilties. The staff were friendly and helpful. The setting is family friendly.

B.The steak & mushroom pie, chicken & leak pie beautiful, flavoursome full of creamy sauces light pastry. Very generous serving accompanied with either handcut potato or kumara chips topped with gravy & sour cream. Definitely worth the visit.

S.A very friendly local pub - the new managers have done a great job improving the menu and service. I can only comment on the pizza (haven't tried anything else from the new menu yet) but it was great. Good selection of non alcoholic drinks as well your standard pub options
B.A great place to relax unwind walk and dive into the local quisene I can't belive how good the burgers were and mixed pulled pork and shrimp pizza was.-and the ultra friendly staff... Go there test it -its 7 minutes from paparoa boat ramp and met Sam hunt at the local dairy mean trip big smiley face.

S.We spent a wonderful two nights starting here in 2018 . The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful in assisting me as a wheelchair user. The food was excellent with largely locally grown produce.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning to go up to North land new Zealand in the future.

M.Myself and two family members ate here. The meal was Ok but not startling. Prices were not too bad. We sat outside to eat, but it was at the front, facing the road. I felt they could have utilised the garden area, which is at the side of the pub.

L.Wonder dinner had at thirsty tui. I had the beef cheeks, they were to die for. The serving size was huge so my husband was excited as he got the left overs. The service was lovely and friendly. We will certainly be back.

E.Wifi speed is very good. 1080p streams effortlessly.
Food is unique and delicious. I had the pulled pork pizza for lunch and the pork ribs and mash for dinner. The serving size is very generous. The small serving was filling enough for me and the standard dinner serving meant I had food leftover.
Bedrooms are cool and well ventilated in the summer as they face away from the sun and have large windows.
Plenty of outdoor and indoor eating space.
The rooms were clean and had all the amenities.
The bar lounge and pool table room can get pretty hot during a summer day. The outdoor seating remedies this somewhat.
During lunch and dinner hours in the summer your food wait can be ~30min or more because of how busy it is.

Beautiful, clean, historical place in the middle of Northland.
Upon arrival, I was warmly welcomed by the staff.
Shaun, Chairman, Sue - people who work there are amazing as well as the locals that I was happy to meet. I didn't have much time to try all the menu from The Thirsty Tui restaurant, but all the food I had was delicious. I was a solo traveller this time, but my room was big enough, even for a couple. Soft and comfy bed with four pillows and a warm duvet, plus an electric under blanket. I would never forget the time I spent there.

R.Stayed in the two bedroom flat, very homey and comfortable with a nice and private outside garden area.The staff were so friendly and went the extra mile to ensure we had a good stay. My friend had arranged a cake to be made by one one of the staff and a bottle of sparkling wine in a bucket of ice as it was my birthday. The staff went out if their way to have it beautifully presented on the table when we arrived, and it was the little kind gestures throughout the evening that really made our stay so enjoyable. We ate in the outside dining area. The food was absolutely beautiful and very well presented, excellent value! Many thanks once again guys , we will definitely be back!
