This is a great local and very popular among the locals. We had to book a table and it was worth it. The ambience is typical of a small town pub/restaurant. The staff were excellent and very friendly. They kept on top of drink and food orders and were happy to have a yarn when they could afford the time. However, being a Friday night, it was busy. The food was great and there was plenty to choose from on the menu. Next time I'm visiting Amberley, I will definitely be back!

Waited 30 minutes for my order to be taken, I had to get the attention of a waitress to have the order taken, 30 minutes later still waiting on food. They were busy but had one restaurant staff on and she was flat out poor girl had no help. However she was apologetic and polite, the service overall was lovely. Food was divine

Fabulous meal and Friday night atmosphere. We are here last night in this busy pub and enjoyed some freshly cooked schnitzel, Cod and ribeye. Fish and schnitzel were both crumbed in-house. What a treat. A very busy tavern with friendly, efficient staff. Thank you.

Really great pub food menu with a chef who clearly knows what's good. Steak sandwich for $24 cooked to medium rare perfection, tasty brioche bun & novelty waffle fries. The pork roast was a great cut of meat with heaps of yummy gravy. Only complaint was not enough crackling! Highly recommended, check it out.

We have just had a fantastic meal at the Amberley Railway Tavern Bar. The host would be the most accommodating individual in the hospitality industry. He was having a busy evening with a staff member away yet made us feel at home from the moment we walked in the bar. The food was delicious and the portions genorous. Exceptional service too. Will be making this a stop on future south island journeys. Thanks for a fantastic evening.

Really enjoyed our delicious meals at the Railway Tavern Bar in Amberley. Amazing variety of menu choices including gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian. My friend & I had the Salmon which was superb! The guys had steak and Pasta, which they both rated very high! Super efficient & friendly service, cosy and warm beside the fire. No wonder this pub was busy, & it was only a Monday night! This pub is a must for a meal! Thank you for a great evening from the caravan couples from Alexandra.

Only pub in Amberly showing Crusaders game. Main bar well supported by tradies and dining area busy with grey ghosts and family groups. Great value for money meals and prompt service. Went through to main bar to watch game. Busy pub without being overwhelmed. Highly recommend.

Went to watch the rugby, good to have sound and video for it. Average beer selection but Guinness on tap which is nice. Had a bowl of loaded wedges that were decent. Would go back when we need a place to watch the game!

Stopped in on our way back to Christchurch and although I was impressed by the speed and service but not so much by the food quality. My partner left half his roast dinner due to it strange taste and I had a grey potato which was quite off putting. Safe to say we might pop in for drinks but won't probably dine again.

We were pleasantly surprised at what we found at the Railway Tavern. This is an elderly hotel in a growing country town. The rear of the building has been hollowed out and a restaurant inserted. We found a large group of diners from a local church already in attendance. Their banter added to the atmosphere which was relaxed and informal. The beef roast of the day was well cooked and enjoyable, the service similarly informal but pleasant. There was also a lovely looking beer garden out the back but the rain kept us inside. the locals were grouped around an open fire in the bar close to the gaming machines. We will return.

Typical Country Tavern. Friendly and attentive staff and a good selection of nice pub meals which are very generous in size and tasty. Lovely and cosy with the log fires burning. They also serve takeaway meals like Fish n Chips and Burgers.
