Stopped here for lunch yesterday. The venue is superb. The snack/bar menu left a bit to be desired, the Dirty Nachos were on the dry side and the guacamole non existent, although on the plus side the sour cream and sweet thai chilli sauce were in separate containers. The salt and pepper squid was pretty sparse and the squid was a bit chewy, the salad greens were past their best. Conversely the goat cheese starter my mother had was very nice. Unfortunately I use Nachos as a benchmark for a place if they have them, anyone should be able to make a decent nachos. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Awesome food and great service at this superb cafe, bar and restaurant overlooking an inlet on Lake Hood, a short drive from Ashburton on the South Island of New Zealand. Try their Brisket Burger (delicious) or sample a range of barbecued dishes served on a platter. Bookings are essential especially on Sundays. There are some great walks around Lake Hood and a nifty little solar-powered circular ferry that starts with the push of a button and takes you across the inlet.

The dinner food was very average. Sounded better than it tasted. The service was very average, the staff need cleaner clothing, the tables needed a good hygienic clean and the main waiter was very sloppy according to my husband. The location and view was stunning and very relaxing!!

What an incredible atmosphere, accompanied by some of the most efficient, friendly service we have experienced in a long time. From outdoor sundowner drinks on the deck over the water, to a cosy table for 2 inside, couldn't be faulted on a night where every table was booked, nothing was too much trouble (drinks/water/was everything good)......and the food? The pitmaster really knows his stuff. Large portions of succulent slow cooked meats with waffle fries, slaw and terrific bbq sauce. Angus beef short rib to die for and a platter of two choices from chicken, boston butt pork, brisket or sausage. Priced sharply and increduble value for money at $36 and $29. Great drinks list and affogato to round it off before a waddle back to the car park. Lake Hood's Lake House gets a solid 10/10. Thanks all

The food is delicious, the staff very polite and, and an all round great experience even in these strange corvid times. Could not recommend this venue/menu more. We have had the privilege of experiencing the real deal In USA of tailgating at live Football Matches with the very best of Pitt Masters, and the American BBQ Platter that we ordered for fathers Day was actually better than those. It was delicious. We enjoyed Christmas Dinner her last year due to me being in hospital at the time, and it was a fantastic Dinner in trying times for us. It is a lovely venue for Brunch/coffee of special Dinner. Highly recommended. Keep up the great work team, we will be back many times over.

Arrived for a 65th birthday celebration with a two year old. The staff were welcoming and helpful. We don't know our server's name - we think he was the only male server last night (24 October). He was an absolute delight. He had a great sense of humour but also provided service quickly and professionally. There were a couple of minor blips (eg, we received green tea instead of English breakfast) and he dealt with those immediately. The food was most enjoyable and super-generous proportions. None of us had room for another crumb. He also brought my husband's dessert complete with candle, and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday!

Took my parents out for dinner for mother's day, and wasn't too impressed. The welcome area was confusing, and the staff took nearly a minute to greet us. Once seated I was seated I was asked to move by staff as I was 'in the walk way', not sure why the place at the table was set then? Drink orders were taken without having been given the list to peruse, and when my baked chicken came to the table it was on a stone cold plate, with cold greens beside, and cold salsa on top. I sent it back, and it came anew on a radiating plate, with freshly steamed greens and salsa on the side. Much better 2nd time around. Not the worst place in town, but improvements could be made.

A great venue for drinks and a meal. Very good service and excellent tasty food: And in winter a most important consideration is warmth whilst sitting eating. Unlike many restaurants the Lake house was beautifully warm without that often freezing rarefied atmosphere caused by excessive air conditioning. That is totally unnecessary as proven by the Lake house

We had an amazing experience at the Lakehouse restaurant. Suresh and the team were incredible every step of the way. We called the restaurant only a week before to plan my mother’s 60th birthday ( for 15 people). They were very accommodating all the way up to the event. At the event we ended up having 30 people and gave them very short of the change. They were very patient with us and our very large group! Suresh and the team, we’re incredible throughout the night, standing by us while still serving the rest of the restaurant! They were responsive, patient, and kind. They helped the entire event run very smoothly and made my mums birthday exceptional! Also the dinner and drinker were fantastic! I had a smoked platter and it was exceptionally tasty. Everyone at the event was very happy with their dinner and complimented how the event was really great! Just want to thank the team again for an incredible party and a great event well done! We will definitely be back :)

The Lakehouse is fabulous space for having a coffee, catching up with friends or a wedding venue. It caters for all plus they have 2 meeting rooms available that are quiet & spacious. Staff are friendly & very helpful. The food is delicious & so is the coffee. I can not this venue. We had a business meeting here & will be using it again. I have also been here a meal & drinks. Every time the quality has remained the same high standard.

Fantastic. But the surprise was actually on the out door patio where this one man band created this unbelieveable SMOKED Brisket and Ribs. The method is fascinating and he has the knowledge and passion to make it work where many book a seat at Lakewood, or the Rolleston Restaurant known as SMOKE. Not only does he smoke the meat, he selects the meat where much of it comes from America because of its fat content. He selects the wood which has to be dry and of a special hard wood. Don't miss out.

We ordered online from their delivery and pick up service, which is faultless, easy, efficient and fast. Our meal was from their amazing Smoke range, we had the Jim Beam burgers that came with a side of fries (which we didn't realise comes with the burger) and the waffle fries and the mac'n'cheese. Amazing value for money burger meal that does not compromise on quality and taste!!! Hands down one of if not the best burger we have ever tasted. The nice drive out beats fast food and their drive through ques too!

Wait staff & food outstanding. Outside set up and view was lovely. Only thing that let it down was when we went inside to pay. The guy said '$64'. I asked if he could itemise verbally what was on the bill and he did (albeit at break neck speed) - I gave him cash - end of transaction! No "Thank you" or any acknowledgement. He just turned away from us and proceeded to put his arm around our waitresses' shoulder who was making coffees. As Maitre 'D - engagement is important! Poor ending to a super lunch.

I went here yesterday with my partner for lunch the service was fantastic apart from the website was confusing to sign into and the wrong wifi password was given. Upon asking for drinks there was perhaps a language issue in asking if they had black label Smirnoff rtds but apart from that the food was amazing! My steak was cooked perfectly and was awesome to see the salad isnt a standard lettuce tomato capsicum mix. If the few small issues wernt there I certainly would have given a 5 star rating

Went with family for mother's day, attentive staff but food was a let down. Three of us had the eggs benedict and all of our poached eggs were overcooked. Two had the big breakfast with fried eggs which were reported to be good. The children's lunch platter was excellent but got taken away before it was finished. Asked if they had baby change facilities, advised they didn't and to use the disabled bathroom, however the windows were wide open and it was absolutely freezing, so had to use a narrow shelf in the women's bathroom. Not what is expected of a family restaurant.

We had a most delicious lunch at The Lake House a couple of weeks ago. We were very impressed by the quality of the food, the presentation and the service. What really blew us away was the meal our daughter had. It was from the kids' menu (in some establishments, not much effort goes into these!). Her food was absolutely gourmet!. She had the burger (a special bun) which had a really tasty home-made patty (I'd love the recipe) and lots of nice other layers in it. The chips were astounding - apparently they get them in from the US - a specially cut variety with the Lake House's lovely way of cooking them. I hope this Restaurant does well - they absolutely deserve to!

We came as a large group of 11, we did enjoy ourselves for the most part, food was good but the service let you down. I can understand the restaurant was reasonably busy but not packed. It took a long time for meals to be cleared and drinks to be ordered etc. We had water on the table to begin with which was great but once that was finished it wasn't replaced and when asked for more, it never came. Disappointed as we just didn't feel very well attended.

My partner and I ordered from the Smoke menu during Covid Level 3 lockdown. We had the Smoke Pound Platter with an extra side of buffalo wings and the Maple Beans. The brisket and ribs were top notch, as were the wings and maple beans. That was enough for the two of us and our order came to $50, which is less than we would have spent if we had gone out for dinner (and way way better than McD's or K-Fry). Support local business!
