Reviews of Ahi
L.
5 stars straight up without doubt.
We tried the “trust us” menu when we visited. It was 7 courses plus 1 palate cleanser. I enjoyed every single dish on the menu. Some of the dressing/sauces the chefs put in definitely surprised me and I would not have thought those would go so well together. I strongly recommend trying this menu if it was your first visit as it allows to try a bit of everything and reasonable portions too.
The waitress who looked after us was Isabella (apologies if I spelt hour name wrong) who was the most lovely and attentive waitress and elevated our dining experience to a whole new level. She was very patient and explained every dish so well.

Man what an eye opener and where have you been all my life. Couldn't fault anything tonight. We felt really spoilt and service was hands down some of the best I've seen, maybe I don't get out enough? Drinking water was never empty, we chose to sit near kitchen and was not disappointed. Chefs are as interactive as you want them to be. We were given some menu options but with little encouragement decided on the 'trust us option' and it delivered, and as delivered server very informative and helpful. We also tried some craft beers, and what is great, we feel like we're supporting local as I think most of the product is locally sourced (NZ wide). We left more than satisfied and are definately coming back even for the great service.

Table of 6.
We did the trust us menu. Our trust was put into the hands of a kitchen that delivered the goods.
4 snacks and 4 mains $145 each worth every cent.
I ate the first plate, beautiful oysters
2nd plate came out that's my favourite
3rd plate comes out no that's my favorite and that just the way it was. Every dish was a delight to eat, to taste. A spectacular vision(truely exceptional plating)
I purposely only started with a glass of champagne and then concentrated on the food, best decision of the day.
My husband said the wine was delicious too and Bryan our server guided him to make some awesome choices. Bryan was the best!
This was a celebration day for our family that we had been waiting all year for.
Thank you Ahi you made our day a true celebration
J.
Rating of 4.5 - good but not perfect.
Food - overall quite good. Would avoid getting the wagyu tho - should have known that for $48 it wasn't going to be the marbly melt in the mouth wagyu! Nice barbeque flavour but the rump was chewy.
Would recommend the poached fish (we had hapuka) (main), quail (main) and paua / crayfish 2 min noodles.
Service - some pinickity points - difficult to hear servers explaining the dishes behind the mask as they speak quite quietly. We ordered and shared two entrees so sharing bowls on arrival of the food would have been appreciated.
R.
Wow the service and food was SUPERB! Flavors were outstanding and the service was top notch. We sat at the chefs counter and got to watch the wonderful chefs create beautiful dishes. Ben Bayly served us all our entrees and mains and was so gracious, friendly and kind! We came here for my birthday and they went above and beyond to make it special. It is worth all the hype! The cocktails are excellent too - flavors were very well balanced and delicious. Everything was perfect 👌
F.
Just incredible, the food and service was outstanding. Highly recommend sitting up at the chefs table. So much passion in every detail. Thank you for such a lovely evening
W.
Great place, great service, just on some of the dishes we had wouldn't say 5 star, more between 4.0 and 4.5. Still a great experience and recommend to try.
G.
We worked our way through everything on the snack menu, including a stone cooked Thar special and the 3 of the mid sized dishes.
Not a failure among them, all simply wonderful. So glad this place has survived trying to open during the start of the pandemic and then all the closures and constraints since.
Eat here, not just for the great food and the smell of woodsmoke drifting through the lovely room, but because we need more places like this.5 star food, great service and the best Sunday long lunch I've had for a long time.
E.
Got stuck for a place to go so headed to Google for a recommendation. You won’t be let down by the vibe, service or food.
We started with the Oysters. And man what a delight. Tonight they taught me what oysters were meant to taste like. They give you an oil drop to add and the delight it brings is outstanding. Also they add a green ice shaving to the top of the oyster. Collectively it brings the dish together. A truely outstanding start.
I had the Crayfish and Paua boil up. Emily had the Hapuka with Sonia having wagyu. Our mains were delightful and we all loved every bit.
To finish we had the Mango and Strawberry. The deserts and the starter were the stars for me. But all together the menu sings of creativity, genius and artistry.
Ahi is a new favourite for us and one we will return to.
J.
We were lucky enough to be seated at the kitchen Ben walked us through the menu the on his advice we choose “Trust Us” and were not disappointed. Just wow!!! every dish was on point. All the staff very knowledgeable and warm. Max was plating up in front of us happy to answer any questions. Highlights were the Terrine, Rolled kingfish and the sardine. Absolutely the best dining out experiences we have had in a very very long time 🙏🙏🙏
N.
Excellent dining experience with helpful staff who explain all meals and make your evening something to remember. There is an extensive range of items available on the menu which are far from what you would usually be served at most high class dining establishments. With quail, venison, tahr, scampi, paua and similar wild and local foods being dishes being on offer here. I would recommend Ahi to anyone looking for an amazing night out at a fabulous, top rated Auckland restaurant.
A.
We went here for our anniversary dinner in June, it was a great experience with great food.
The best part was the exceptional staff, very attentive, friendly, helpful and fun. Best dish was the chocolate textures, mostly due to the fig leaf goats milk ice cream, which was truly exceptional and most certainly something you couldn't possibly ever guess from a flavor point of view. Runner up was the scampi corn dogs, though my wife and I both thought the sauce overpowered the more subtle flavors of the scampi so we ate half without any sauce (the sauce reminded me of a McD's 1/4 pounder in all the best ways).
In all the food was well solid but not mind blowing, wine pairing was well matched, but again not exceptional. All round a solid experience and I'm happy we went, easy 4/5, I would certainly recommend a visit. It just didn't quite have that special something extra to get a 5.
D.
Visited for a birthday and had the course meal "Trust Us". Definitely highly recommended. Waitress was super friendly and attentive. Food quality was awesome. Highlight for me was the lamb and the scampi corndog. The line caught butterfish was pretty good too.
T.
Thanks for an amazing meal. The lamb was just so tender and delicious. Everything was really fresh and so well packed. Would have loved to be in the Ahi Restaurant but it was the next best way to celebrate our anniversary. Thanks so much.
K.
Stunning food with outstanding service, I cannot fault this amazing experience. We had the trust the chef menu and it did not disappoint. Art and flavour combined perfectly. Every mouthful was a taste sensation. A showcase of beautiful fresh NZ produce in every dish. Superb, can’t wait to go back!
D.
We had a delicious lunch and great service to match. We will definitely go back and are very happy to recommend the beautiful food this fabulous restaurant has to offer.
N.
Trendy decor & delicious food.
We got the tasting menu and every meal was just incredible.
We also arrived absolutely starving and left full as can be, so there is serious value as well as quality too the meals here.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and overall just a spectacular dining experience.
C.
I've wanted to come here since they first opened and have been hearing mixed reviews about this place. I finally came on my birthday and I'd say - scrap whatever anyone tells you because I LOVED IT. The ingredients are sooooo fresh and the way they plated and combined the food and flavours together is just art! I'm so glad i got to try their skampi hotdog and heartbroken to hear it's coming off the menu because that was one of my favorite dish! We tried the Trust Us course and seriously recommend going for that because it really doesn't disappoint.
N.
It is a lovely environment and the dishes we choose are very good. The wine list is also great. The service is good but no exception. In addition to the impeccable service, we had a very enjoyable evening and have already recommended it to friends.
b.
Absolutely loved Ahi!
Great food, great spot with a nice view and the staff!
We had some very specific dietary requirement for food and the staff were more than accommodating for us. They even made us an separate course (not on the menu) to accomodate which was just as delicious as the actual course, and looked great.
Couldn’t fault, one of the nicest, new fine dining restaurants in Auckland 👌
Photos from the Valentines Day special menu
J.
The food is beautiful, really busy restaurant. I would like to come again during the day, as it was too loud at night time. Lovely service from the waitress. We had a set menu that night.
D.
I don't normally write review on a restaurant but I feel I have to write this time. This restaurant is simply incredible! I booked a table for two to celebrate my wife's birthday today during lunch hours.
We ordered the TRUST ME selection from the menu (4 Snacks + 4 Meals per person) as we quite of want to try as much as possible, in a smaller portion, from the menu. All of the food selected by the Chef are so tasty and full of surprises. Waitresses and waiters are so friendly and explained precisely each of the food (snacks, main courses and dessert) in details when serving.
We were sitting near the window facing the ferry terminal. We feel quite lucky as the weather was great. Clear sky and lovely sunshine. The view is so beautiful and mesmerizing.
At last, we were given a birthday suprise dessert specially made for my wife. There were a variety of chocolates and mousses nicely decorated and well balanced. Especially the hand writing of Happy Birthday with liquid chocolate on the plate made us felt so warmth. Thank you so much for the very special gift to my wife.
I must say it worths every single cent I spent in the restaurant. I will definitely come back again and recommend the restaurant to friends.
What an memorable experience we had today in Ahi. Thank you for making us felt so special. What a great restaurant!
A.
Had a fantastic dining experience here! The service was amazing and the waitstaff were incredibly attentive and friendly. The food was fresh and delicious. The ceviche and the lamb were my favourites.
Interior is trendy and tasteful with a pleasant view out to the harbour. Will definitely be returning.
T.
Food was amazing, as were the cocktails and the service. Make sure you book ahead!
L.
Dining was decent in Aki. I was by myself and had the set lunch. First off, if you’re looking for a place that serves authentic NZ cuisine with a great view of the Harbour, this is the place for you. However, I found the dishes to be tad disappointing. Everything was fresh and local. But the flavors were lacking, and the components in the dishes did not mix very well. What I had in each bite was just polarising with certain elements more powerful than others, making the flavors a bit unpleasant. The fish dish with beetroot sauce in particular was quite bland. Service was good but the wait in between dishes was quite long which I found surprising as there were minimal people in the restaurant. Overall I enjoyed my meal but would not return.
L.
As a fan of Ben Bayley’s food, I have been eager to try his new restaurant, Ahi in Commercial Bay. I was a little apprehensive as a recent review in a prominent magazine was not favourable. Maybe they reviewed too early before the Ahi team settled in and hit their stride? We had such a great experience. I want to go again.
The food was fantastic (more on that soon), but what made the experience amazing was the service. They anticipated our needs and happily answered our many questions (we suffered from end of year indecisiveness). We opted for the Trust Us tasting menu to cut down on the number of decisions. The staff were only too happy to accommodate our requests like a different dessert for one guest who doesn’t like chocolate desserts (yes, really).
We started with four snacks that were presented in somewhat quirky ways. We did enjoy the scampi corn dog that many diners have been raving about, but my favourite was the tahr, or mountain goat, tartare. The flavours worked together so well. Wine matches were well paired too. Some people have noted that portions are small but we all walked away satisfied and without that “oh god, I’ve eaten too much/rich” feeling.
I should mention the setting. Yes Ahi is in a mall, which you’re reminded of when you leave and walk into a food court. However inside the restaurant there’s a nice airy sense of space and interesting views towards the water.
Ahi is pricey, but well worth a visit.
A.
Very happy dining experience. Great food, drinks, service, view, everything
D.
All I can say is this is worth it. Loved it. Pricey but worth every mouthful. Don’t go past the deserts.
l.
Went for the long lunch which was not the normal menu, it was focused on the local hungi style cooking. Beautiful restaurant and delicious food.
M.
We had an absolutely amazing dinner at Ahi for our anniversary!
We sat at the kitchen counter and chose the “4 snacks and 4 courses” option from the menu. Our waiter discussed our food preferences with us (we don’t eat meat but enjoy fresh seafood), and we were not disappointed on the least by the selection of dishes brought to our table.
Sitting at the kitchen counter allowed us to watch the chefs prepare all of the options on the menu. It was really interesting and fun. The head chef came over to speak with us several times to explain the dishes and where they had sourced the ingredients locally. We were also able to interact a little with some of the other very busy chefs, who were extremely friendly and informative.
Every dish brought to us was thoughtfully and beautifully prepared and presented, and absolutely delicious. The mixtures of flavors and textures that they achieve is nothing short of remarkable, and rivals all of the Michelin star restaurants that we have visited all over the world.
We thought that every one of the staff members that we interacted with that evening were extremely thoughtful and friendly, and they all helped to make our evening together special.
We were attracted to this restaurant because of their innovative and interesting menu, and the fact that they locally source everything in their menu (so their menu changes often with new and amazing dishes).
They have a great wine list and plenty of unique drink options, too.
Be sure to get reservations for this restaurant when you are in the Auckland area!
It is usually pretty busy, even on weeknights.
Expect to pay a bit more, but it is very much worth it for the experience!
M.
Clean, vibrant presentation with a taste to explore. Very nice atmosphere with a view overlooking the Queens Wharf. Friendly staff, professional service.
D.
I've been before and tonight was amazing. The music was incredible and so uplifting. The food was utterly delicious. I had the Octopus, Quail and hmmm the oysters...they're the best I've ever eaten.
My new go to for oysters and champagne. I'll be your local/regular...hmmm yummm. Seriously outstanding in every way, service, food, atmosphere...well done.
A.
Ahi means "Fire" in Te Reo - I'd say this place is aptly named. The food was fire! Ahi is a restaurant which I consider in their own tier with the likes of Sidart, the flavours presented to my wife and I when we dined here were fantastic.
The vibe and feel of the restaurant was great and service was great too.
We had to order an extra main dish to get to the point where we were satisfied. Given the price tag, this is the only disappointing part of our experience here.
A.
One of thee most wonderful dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Amazing food, incredible service and a stunning view. Will definitely go again
T.
Very delicious menu, there was "first one ever" for every one of our group of 10 having a work lunch - amazing dishes, presentation and atmosphere with great views out to the port and Ferry building.
R.
Amazing food, great service. Couldn't of asked for more.
What they do with the octopus is insanely good, definitely the best I've ever had!
A.
Service, food, staff.. everything is just exceptional! Chris was soo accommodating and agreed to offer us the A'la Carte menu, although our group had 12 people. Jessi was a very pleasant and very professional lady (who looked after our table). I honestly can't fault the service. Oh and it was very nice to meet the Chef, who happened to be from the same part of Russia as myself.
Thanks again team, our company and the client really enjoyed the lunch. We'll definitely be back again.
Kind Regards
Anya (on behalf of Vince&Rice)
K.
We went to Ahi for my birthday dinner. We ordered their "Trust us" which like a degustations, with 4 snack + 4 courses. Food were tasty, but not unique. I'm a little bit disappointed with the dessert (campfire banana).
One things I really liked is they're sourcing their ingredients all over NZ. They don't have kids menu, but they can do kids dishes (like pasta, fish and chip) when you ask.
J.
The degustation option was fantastic. All of them were creative, well presented and it all tasted great. Staff were attentive, engaging and friendly.
E.
Great place to eat, awesome service, and the food is amazing. Highly recommend everything we tried, but the scampi corn dog was 👌and served by Ben Bayly himself no less!
S.
Service and dinner was awesome. The quail entree was amazing. Red deer n pork was yummy too.
M.
For a place located in kind of a mall, Ahi (fire in Māori) is really very very good. Small platings with a ton of flavour, and generous and well-executed sides, in case you're ravenous.
I'm planning to return soon.
L.
Ben Bayly is a legend in New Zealand dining excellence and his new flagship restaurant Ahi does not disappoint.
We were lucky enough to be seated at the kitchen bar where we could watch the chefs create delicious meals from quality NZ produce. I now have a list I want to order - concentrating on the starters next time!
Last night I had the John Dory which was perfectly prepared and my husband ordered the Fallow Deer - the jus was to die for and the venison melt in your mouth. The pine/apple dessert was fun and refreshing at the end of the meal.
If you like a great wine, you will love Ahi's extensive wine list - probably the best in NZ.
One of my beefs with a lot of restaurants is that they are so dark I can't see the menu to order without resorting to my phone torch!
Not at Ahi. They have put a lot of thought into creating a beautiful experience with flattering lighting that still allows you to read the menu.
Sitting where we were, it was great to watch Ben juggle patrons, wait staff and chefs without losing that cheeky grin of his :-) No Gordon Ramsay outbursts at Ahi!
Thanks Ben, Chris and the team for bringing this new and exciting dining experience to Auckland central. See you again very soon.
R.
Dinner was great. Food is amazing. Had the Quail and Venison. Dessert menu does not have many options. Dessert was not that great it is beautifully presented. I would not recommend Dessert.
j.
Very nice restaurant. Music , decorations, staff are very nice and professional. Fish is very good , juicy...well bring my family come ❤️
A.
This is deservedly a place to treat yourself. Being at Ahi is a delight for the heart, mind and senses. Immerse yourself in a story of Kiwi ingenuity and determination, marvel at the thoughtfulness of every detail, and abandon yourself to the fresh flavours, exquisite combinations and inspired creations of the fare. Wrap that with understated but attentive service and you've got the whole package. Whatever you expect, Ahi will take it up another notch. If 2020 taught us anything, it's to take opportunities to treat ourselves because experiences like this are precious.
N.
Incredible food. Was such a privilege eating here! Everything is so intricately thought out and the service is wonderful. 12/10!
s.
outstanding food and service
We had Paua, Scampi dogs and venison and cheese starters...We had the aged tuna main and the butter fish. Both were excellent
P.
Had the set menu. Flavors were ok. Had trevaly and hapuka, Strawberry desert amazing. Main issue is portion size, way too small and no sides provided.
T.
Wow - a great place. Seriously a must try if you’re in Auckland. Great food, great service, even better drinks.
T.
Had great lunch here. Took the family for wife's birthday and what a wonderful experience. Table of 8 and everyone enjoyed all of our meals, entrees, mains and dessert all delicious and beautifully presented. Flavour profiles and textures... banging! Casually elegantly and knowledgeable staff. Can highly recommend.
A.
Loving the views, cocktails and the food from Ahi in Commercial Bay! The food and drinks were on the pricier side but its worth it!
J.
Delicious cuisine with a kiwi twist. Service exceptional and not over bearing.
A.
Best restaurant EVER! Foods and services were amazing! We will definately be back!
A.
Lovely restaurant in terms of the environment and mercifully tucked away on its own little corner at Commercial Bay away from the tacky restaurant “food court”. The snacks (especially the paua and tahr tartare) are explosions of taste richnessThe quail and crayfish soup main/entree we had were a bit indistinct and the portions small even by fine dining standards. Staff are friendly and attentive, without suffocating you with attention.
The desserts were another highlight - imagined BBQing your own yummy marshmallow on a little fire and then having the most unbelievably yummy Granny Smith apple sorbet mixed with some delightful textures of nuts. It sounds simple but the taste is spectacular.
Probably hard to draw absolutely definitive conclusions for now as it is still new. It could be something great and it could be a bit like Euro - pretty good, never spectacular, but also generally highly agreeable and an easy choice when dining especially in groups.
G.
Nice environment, good service and good food quality.
Will come again to try more different options.
L.
Chefs choice was an outstanding way to eat. The food was impressive. We sat at the kitchen bench and the interaction with chef and his team was delightful. A hive of activity, meticulous continuity, it was beautiful to watch. This really is a 10/10 restaurant from start to finish, well done Mr B ...
M.
I had high hopes due to the 4.7 rating and the menu looked really interesting. We opted to go for the Trust Us menu which is a taster of 8 dishes in total (4 snacks, 3 mains and a dessert). We didn't get to choose what we got which I didn't mind as the menu had a variety however we were given mostly seafood - 4 of the 7 dishes were seafood which was disappointing and 2 of those dishes being very similar. To me it wasn't a great taster of the menu at all. And I must say the dessert was a disappointment - sweet corn ice cream. I'm sure the least popular dessert sold. There was potential there for it to be great but we were let down by the lack of variety. I don't feel that I got my money's worth unfortunately. Service was adequate.
J.
My husband and I had an absolutely amazing dining experience at Ahi. We sat at the kitchen counter and Chef Ben Bayly welcomed us as if we were friends. We decided to eat from the a la carte menu, but everything sounded so good and we couldn't decide. Chef asked us some questions and chose for us, telling us where the meat and produce is farmed, and splitting the dishes across two plates. Flavours and presentation were bang on. The wine list is small but perfectly formed, and the staff, both front and back of house, could not have been more accommodating. We can't wait to go back.
G.
⁰great food . The service is just right from people that wish to make it a dinning experience.
Very enjoy
A.
Had such a lovely time at Ahi on Thursday night! All of the staff are super attentive and happy which created such a nice atmosphere. We were served by Chris and he was such an amazing host! Really made the dining experience so amazing. Not to mention how insanely good the meals were!
I.
What a fantastic dining experience! We had the Trust Us menu with wine match and what an experience it was. The food is sensational. The wines sublime. Fabulous atmosphere. Wonderful service. A special thanks to Russ for his excellent suggestions from the bar. Amaro might be our new thing! Can also highly recommend the cocktails. She'll be right indeed :-) All in all one of the best dinners out we have had in a very long time.
B.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Ahi is a jewell in the crown that is Commercial Bay.
D.
My partner and I had the 8 course 'Trust Us' menu and I will simply say this was the best dining experience I have ever had. Consistently excellent. Presentation, flavours and hospitality were all perfectly on point. BRAVO. Cannot recommend highly enough.
A.
We watched the TV series and waited through the lockdown in anticipation. We were not disappointed. Food and service were great. Nice open feel to the restaurant and great to see it all happening in the kitchen. Only disappointment were our desserts. Gave our feedback and were given a complimentary Buffalo milk ice cream cone, which is also on the dessert menu. That was great. Will be back.
N.
An absolutely excellent High-end addition to the Harbour Eats precinct. A beautifully crafted space that offers generous views of the harbour, a cool bar and open kitchen. The atmosphere was spot on with cool beats and a lively feel. The food was stunning too, be advised that the main portions are relatively small so be sure to grab some sides if you want to leave full (but not too full so skip on the dessert!).
K.
Ahi is definitely one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. Highly recommend the "Trust us" menu with the premier wine matching. You can feel the love in the food! Ben and the team - Ahi Ka (keep the home fires burning)
M.
I have visited twice and in both times I was wowed! Fantastic food, ambience and service. And it is sooo New Zealand! Just loved the fusion!!!
I am now experiencing a set menu celebrating Matariki and it is a wow after after wow!
I will be back for sure!!!
A.
Food, presentation and service all five stars. Very very good.
G.
Sorry but... Service was average and so were the meals. Fish was well over cooked. Lamb was a tiny portion for $45. Sides were extra. We’ve been travelling around New Zealand and have visited some outstanding restaurants. We felt this was well overpriced and missing that ‘wow’ factor. We won’t be back 😥
S.
OK this restaurant is in an amazing location and the staff are incredible. However the food was good but not magnificent as per price tag. Went there with 3 other people for a birthday dinner and cost just shy of $800. We did have 3 $85 bottles of champagne but was left shell shocked at the final bill. Wouldn't go back as there are better restaurants with better food which are considerably cheaper. I would like to finish on a high. The atmosphere was great and the view spectacular. Cheers and good luck :)
N.
Amazing. Tahr Tartare is my new favorite out of the box treat. I'd rave on, but everything was simply incredible. Nothing needed anything more. We sat at the bar and to was a joy to watch a well running kitchen team. A+
J.
One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The menu doesn't do the food justice, we were unsure what to have so went with the Trust the Chef option. Every course was phenomenal. In addition the staff are charming and attentive, definitely recommend Ahi to anyone looking for a great night out and incredible food.
J.
Mike and his team are second to none - our new favourite spot in Auckland. The execution of each dish is extremely well-thought-out, from flavour to plating; the service is what you'd expect from a Michelin star-ed restaurant. If you're looking to impress (and on that note, what a wine list), this is the place.
J.
Superb food. Quietly attentive staff. Excellent room.
T.
Dined there for New Years Eve with a super special degustation menu. Each course was absolutely beautiful, the menu so well thought out. The service was brilliant with Ben popping by each table to check in. A wonderful experience to start 2021, we’ll be back!
J.
We had a wonderful degustation and paired wine. Delicious food and that rare quality of exceptional service. A top line restaurant absolutely living up to it's reputation!
S.
Yeah it's as good as the hype. Incredible food, awesome wine and a great atmosphere. Will keep visiting. Luckily we managed to get a walk in table for 2 but it's normally fully booked.
S.
You can taste the pride and passion that goes into every aspect of your food and in each and every mouthful. From where it is sourced to the presentation and delectable flavours. An absolutely faultless experience from the moment we walked in. The service, atmosphere and the food second to none. I could not recommend Ahi highly enough and look forward to going back.
D.
Went with the "Trust Us" option, which was a great way to taste the menu.
C.
Dined in for dinner and had the set menu. The food was top notch. Service was professional. Ben Bayly also came a couple of times to introduce the dishes. Really unique and cleverly constructed dishes. Very flavoursome. Highly impressed. Highly recommended.
R.
Fantastic tastes of New Zealand. Surprise 'really trust us' menu was a delight - and beyond expectations. Plenty of knowledgeable staff with non-intrusive attention to detail. Great wine matching. 2020 is a challenge for all but if Ahi can keep this momentum they deserve every success.
Y.
Ahi creates food teeming with exciting flavours. Who knew cured Kingfish could taste of something more than salt and fish? Ahi manages to condensify, intensify, and amplify the base flavours of the ingredients they use in their dishes. Combined with a lovely new interior, wait staff who were knowledgeable and friendly, you get a restaurant that is edging its way to the top of the Auckland restaurant scene. I would recommend you to try it for yourself!
M.
The trust the chef menu was fantastic. The wine matches were excellent and the staff and service was second to none. Ahi was great value for money and was a great dining experience.
P.
Not particularly good value for money. Big boy beef was pretty tough and chew.
R.
We've dined at a number of the new Commercial Bay eateries and noted with interest, a new premise called Ahi that was yet to open on the back of our last post-lockdown freedom. Seeing it was now up and running, we decided to book (very last minute I might add!) on a Saturday eve. We love being close to the action so selected a kitchen spot - best decision ever!
Ben Bayly and team pay homage to our beautiful local produce and connect with both their suppliers and diners in a way that has been missing from the NZ restaurant scene forever. The food was relatable, memorable and it was an absolute pleasure being served by passionate and knowledgeable staff.
We went home and binged watched A New Zealand food story and wished we'd done so before our Ahi experience. A real shame we are not able to share this restaurant with international guests at this point in time but Ahi is a must visit regardless.
Oh, and we chose the 4 snacks, 4 mains option which I'd highly recommended! Favorites were the Tahr Tartare, the Kingfish (ask about their Niwa source from Ruakaka - buttery goodness) and the Fallow. P.S thanks for the sourdough. Was the perfect cure to our Sunday hangover slathered in butter! Yummo. We shall be back!

Absolutely delicious food, the flavours for every dish are well thought out and compliment each other beautifully. The restaurant itself is in a great location with friendly staff who know their food and wine!
G.
Truly great food and excellent service. The price is somewhat dear but it's a case of you getting what you pay for. Recommend to book early to get a good seat.

I've been here twice now, and each time the service has been spectacular (shoutout to John, Russ, Kate, and Pete). The dishes tried and raved about by my group include the Wagyu beef, the lamb, the fallow deer, the kingfish, the line-caught fish, the courgette flower, the agria potatoes, the salad, and the entrees tahr and scampi corndog were exceptional. If you order the white asparagus, ask that they ensure that it is cooked to tenderness (it was raw). The crayfish ravioli was deemed less flavourful. The custard lamington, carrot cake, waffle cone, cheese plate, and apple with pine-roasted marshmallow were all pronounced excellent. The staff is knowledgeable about recommending good wine choices based on preferences, and responsive to empty glasses and come-hither looks. :-)
The biggest drawback is that entrees must be ordered for the entire table, rather than individually (I solved this by showing up early to try the tahr and the scampi whilst sitting at the bar).
The kitchen is open-plan, and it's a delight to watch a calm, well-ordered staff coordinating assembly of dishes in what appears to be an effortless manner without micro-management by the manager on duty.
Reserve early to ensure that you'll have the table at the date and time you want, the place is always packed.

A unique New Zealand dining experience. Fabulous food and service.

Delicious food in a great spot. Good service too. All the food was good but the tuna, octopus and butterfish were a highlight.

Celebrating Matariki at Ahi. Second time here and can guarantee that will come back many more times. This is a real kiwi restaurant which would be a top restaurant in New York, Paris, you named. Thanks for coming back to our kiwiland. God bless you and your family.
P.
Unreal food, every dish was a taste sensation and some of the best presentation if not the best I’ve seen in NZ. Extremely professional and attentive yet not overbearing staff to match. A highly recommended experience!
D.
Delicious food and very friendly staff

Best dinner and best service
A.
It’s the best food I’ve ever eaten and the atmosphere and people were amazing, all 3 times I’ve been there.
I never normally like desserts at restaurants but at Ahi they are exquisite!
I can’t wait to go back.
Merci Ahi!
A.
I could not recommend this place more. The wine list is the best I have ever seen. They have wines for a huge range, from $13-70 a glass. The food was the best ‘kiwi’ meal I’ve ever had, best restaurant in NZ hands down

Interesting take on Kiwi Fine Dining. Trust Us menu was well worth it. Engaging and uplifting.
Room for improvement? Maybe be a chocolate milkshake.

Arrived at the Ahi Elemental Evening Commercal Bay on 06th October for glorious Food, Wine & the True Story of Food from our own Country Aotearoa, we definitely were not disappointed. A perfect way to spend our 49 Years of Partnership & 47 Years of Wedded Bliss. A huge Shout Out to Ben / Owner / Chef for the selection of the eveningsTasting Menu, accompanied by our wonderful local Wines & Beer, also thank you to Rebecca for offering us the opportunity to celebrate our day & yours in style plus of course AHI / Fire, for its fabulous Ambience & Service. We'll most definitely return.

Three of us dined at this up-market on-trend restaurant.
Portions are really tiny.
The paua is three transparent slices, with tasty tiny vegetables for $14. My tempura courgette flower main at $27 was in need of their chunky agria chips, $12, and a broccolini side at $12.
Attentive and pleasant service.
Three entrée, there mains and three glasses of wine cost $237.
Nice for a special event.
