Reviews of Asian Wok Yum Cha Albany 华府美味
Excellent decor and layout. The food came out regularly and quickly. The variety of dishes is your standard Yum Cha options and I didn't see any special dishes other restaurants may not have had. The quality and taste is good, but I did not feel the price was good value. Parking at the customer car park or paid off street parking
We recently checked out Asian Wok Yum Cha and had an amazing time. The staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome right away. The place looks fantastic, like something straight out of a Chinese historical site, but with a modern and clean vibe.
The food was incredible and came out really quickly. Every dish we tried was delicious—the best yum cha and Chinese food I’ve ever had. The staff were really helpful and gave us great recommendations.
The restaurant has a calm and quiet atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed meal. Parking was easy, which was a nice bonus. Overall, it was definitely worth the visit, and I’m definitely going back for more!
Very good yum cha, we were seated promptly and you cab do initial orders of the picture menu and there is a lady who comes round with the trolley. We had an awesome experience with the food, it was hot fresh and tasty! The sauce station is great with a big gallon of chilli oil. The service was also really good, there is plenty of seating with parking on road too
RED RICE ROLL - Highly recommended unique dish here.
The red rice roll is the highlight here. There is a crispy prawn hidden inside that is wrapped with rice roll. It is served with a peanut-like sauce, which compliments the food so well!
However i did find there was much less options of yum cha foods on the menu here compared to other places.
The service is as expected.
The atmosphere is a new building and clean throughout. Plenty of seating around.
This place is quite popular during the wknd, a bunch of people is lining up when we arrived at 1pm. Great interior decor, feel like in china. The food was ok-ish, but not the Xiaolongbao (juicy pork bun) and steam pork ribs, steamed siumai was good. The egg tart was good.
I've been to Asian wok for both yum Cha and dinner, and both times the restaurant was pretty full, however we were able to walk on and get a table.
I enjoyed the dim sum however the highlight is definitely the fish hotpot for dinner.
The broth for the hotpot was very flavourful especially after you cook the fish and the broth could be topped up upon request. I really enjoyed just savouring the broth. The fish was cut into thin slices so it cooked rather quickly. However, there were one or two bones remaining in the slices so you should be careful as you eat. The fish hotpot came with many side dishes too! I really enjoyed the fish, rice vermicelli, and the fish balls.
Have been coming here for months for lunch. I’m a creature of habit and get the same thing most of the time. The staff now know me by my first name which is nice and they’re always so welcoming. They know exactly what I want order it as soon as they see me. The quality of the food is really good. Probably the best Xiaolongbao I’ve had in Auckland. The rice rolls are 10/10!! All the other dumplings are very good. The restaurant is always very clean. And I personally think the pricing is very good considering I never leave wanting more. All round this place is great.
Great food, very good atmosphere and a friendly service, it is one of my favorite restaurants.
A good yum cha place. Rice rolls are excellent, freshly made upon order. Very tender. Delicious! 👍👍Porridge, steamed ribs are also tasty. Good place to go.
My favourite yumcha in the north shore with larger portions, but more importantly the flavours are great. My favourite dish here is surprisingly the polo/pineapple buns. They were sold out today when I went for lunch so please do make more next time!
Wonderful place for hot pot and yum char. We had a blue cod fish soup hot pot and the soup base and fresh fish were fantastic and fresh. The pecking duck was also very tasty and the pancake for it was handmade freshly.
Learn Mandarin or Cantonese before coming here! Although the menu has pictures and clear pricing, you won't be familiar with 99% of the food unless you're well acquainted with Chinese Cuisine. Would have helped to have an informed waiter explain some of these dishes. Regardless, the food stratified my cravings. I'd come back with a Chinese friend for sure. P.S go around lunch time for the Yum Cha experience, Google what that means 😋 p.s.s they'll drop tea right away for $4.5 per adult, so if you don't want to pay reject it asap.
The food is exceptional, very delicious, highly recommend the prawn red rice rolls, siu mai, pork spareribs, and bbq pork steamed buns. Staff are very attentive and friendly.
We went Here for several times with my friend, her husband and her daughter and we been enjoying eating here some yummy dishes that's why we keep comming back because of the calm environment and specially with the waitres/server named MELINA. She is very accommodating and always keeping her smile while she taking care of our orders that is very lovely to start with and she always making sure that we are all settled and satisfied with our orders because of some incident that we order this sizling pork that had lots of pork fats that we actually don't feel like to eat because we been ordering this for many Times before and it's very good all meat dish but the lastime we came back it's all pork fats and since my friends daughter who is 5 years old doesn't like to eat it and us not a fan of eating faty foods, MELINA address the complaint immediately and arranged it with the chef and return the new one will full of meat no trace of fats.
To cut the story short we will be back soon because of the service of your service person MELINA, pls give her a raise or promote her.
Thank you!
We come to this restaurant quite frequently for lunch and dinner. The place was quite normal but pleasant looking. Spacious and good size tables for large families and friends gathering. Service was friendly and plenty of parking.
Recommended fish hotpot, the table has some separate small pot, taste of fish soup is very fresh and delicious. We also instant-boiled other seafood and vegetables as well. Good choice for the dinner and party.
Quick dinner while the kids were away, sweet and sour was beautiful and fried noodles good and great portion, dimsum and prawn toast hot and tasty. Enough for lunch the next day and around $80 for 2 so thought this was very reasonable. Will be back.
This is my first time to Asian Wok in Albany. We had yum cha and the food overall was nice. The service was good and the atmosphere was good only when you sat facing their big glass window was a bit too bright. Maybe it's a good idea if they are covered with light translucent blind.
Hands down best Yumcha in Auckland. It was packed so I would recommend coming a little before 12 or reserving a table. Very clean, polite staff and great food. Will give this a rare 5 star. Recommend the Prawn and Coriander dumplings.
Food was delicious, the staff is friendly, reasonable price as well .Great place for friends and family have catch up.
Newly open yumcha place in Albany.
Loved it !! Beef ribs and pork ribs were so good. Dimsum was fresh !!
Also staffs were friendly !!
Clean and liked the deco of the shop.
Will definitely be back again!
Great tasty yum char.. quick service, additive chilli oil ..
This is a full 5 star review for me. Definitely would recommend people to dine in here 👌........THIS IS A MUST TRY FOR PEOPLE LOOKING SOMETHING GOOD TO EAT ....and fast service .....this is your restaurant.
1/ Not so busy for Yum Cha today, so things were a lil’ slow on coming out on their trolleys, still considered ourselves lucky to have a Yum Cha restaurant so close by.
2/ First visit for 2023, always a good experience with a wide variety of yumcha dishes.
Was interesting, felt overwhelmed by staff with food initially, then was difficult to get any attention.
Food tasted like it was doused in MSG, but tasty at that.
Only had an hour for table even though we booked in advance.
Looks like there were 2 menus as saw other people eating noodles etc not on menu we received.
First time visit today. almost went to the other Chinese restaurant, which is neighbouring, because both big red signs are written in Chinese. You should follow the arrow with saying Yum Cha. Spacious and clean, attentive staff, reasonable prices, scrumptious food. Eggplant dish was most delectable. Probably my favourite yumcha place in the city. Definitely will go back.
Nice yum cha & nice place.
A very enjoyable dining experience, would recommend to friends around me.
Great interior design, very comfortable and well decorated. The food was average though.
The yum cha is delicious. I came once last year and found the taste exceptional. Today's experience was equally delightful, reaffirming its deliciousness. Thumbs up!
Food delicious. Good portion. Black pepper lambchop expensive and small portion. Over all it is good food.
We went this morning (Sunday). They don't take booking for yum cha when I called. I was told to rock up and wait. When we arrived at 12.15pm we were told it will be a 10 mins wait behind another couple. It was only 5 minutes before we were seated. Service is the quickest (a record in my opinion). We had this table of dim sum within 5 minutes of sitting down. Food is comparable with Browns Bay.
Probably the most expensive yumcha in Auckland with the prices of dim sum being $10-12 each, but still tastes good!
Quite a lot of a fillings in the dumplings and a lot of other large/main dishes on the menu as well~
Deliciously authentic dim sum - the best I've tasted in West Auckland. Reasonably priced and the service was quick and friendly.
Food is delicious and good quality. Opened at 8am everyday good to have breakfast. Amazing customer service to grab some sauce for us.
Their fried taro is the best in NZ. Overall, it’s a decent place with good atmosphere. The price is reasonable, 3 ppl only cost us $65.
We have been waiting for a good Chinese restaurant out west for a while now and glad this place just opened up. Relatively simple design, but vlean and tidy restaurant. Good variety on the menu with the normal Chinese dishes, with big Cray's and fresh seasonal fish available. Staff weren't really English speaking but was very accommodating. We ordered some yum Cha, salt pepper squid and chilli chicken. Food was really good.
Nice authentic Dim Sum… fast service by staff..
First time here, as recommended by other family who have been here before. Really enjoyed the cuisine.
yummy, but maybe the crispy pork belly is not the best, lots of unrendered fat and not too crispy - i recommend the char siu bbq pork instead. meals got be hotter too and this yum cha $$ can get pricey fast 😅
OMGOSH! Where has this place been! The most delicious Asian style food I have had in such a long time! Portion sizes are spot on with the ability to be shared with the whole whanau. This was my first visit and wont be my last to this establishment. Child friendly with super helpful staff; perfect for any occasion. Seating is immaculate; toilets are clean (yaaassss) and perfectly cooked food. This is hands down one of my new food joints that has made the cut (and I'm super picky) thank you to the wonderful and helpful staff at Asian Wok. You have won me over! I look forward to trying more of your dishes next time I pop by (might be next week lol). Wish I took a pic true of the entire table of food we had. Perhaps next time (=
Service was very good compared to other Chinese restaurants and the atmosphere is very pleasing. Food also one of the best I had in Auckland.
Good sized portions but some dishes did not have enough taste. This might be because they didn't have MSG flavoring.
Food was tasty, many choices and friendly staff. The teapot had a generous amount of tea leaves in it and had a very good taste (some restaurants are stingy on tea leaves, leading to a very weak taste - so bland, almost like water lol)
Although the price was a little bit high...it was worth it! Will def visit again :)
Excellent restaurant with really cool set heating tables. Place is clean and modern as well. Food tastes excellent as well!
New favorite yum cha place second to Grand Harbor in the city. Can get very busy during weekends so best to come early as possible. Parking is on street (parallel parking) not sure if paid in the weekends, but it is definitely on weekdays as there are meters nearby. Food was fantastic, everything made fresh and taste so good! Reasonably priced too is the important bit.
We really enjoyed yumcha here witn Chinese style decoration. The dimsum was coming out on their trolleys, good experience with a wide variety of dishes.
We were a big group of 10. Lots of sharing plates, all very delicious 😋 and reasonably priced. Can't wait to return here
Yum Cha is so delicious here and they open from early morning! none of the other yumcha places open early in Auckland!
Had numerous yum cha lunches with friends here, serves good value for money food in a pleasant atmosphere. However, on a couple of occasions we were greatly annoyed when they started sweeping the floor while we were still eating and still continue even when we request for them to stop. Bad service and would have given it 5 stars if not for that!
big open space, looks clean, good service, mostly nice food, but some food missing the flavor.
The food was amazing and fresh, and the staff were really nice! The portions especially the dumplings were bigger than other yumcha places I have been to. Love the prawn-based dishes as they tasted the best!
Good dim sum dishes. But some siomai were undercooked.
My fav Yum Cha in west! Highly recommend!
Great range of yum cha selection & very friendly waitresses.👍👍👍
It’s decent but I much rather their browns bay location, which has some more dim sum options.
Our group of 4 came for yum cha lunch on Monday. Arrived 12.30. place was fairly busy but we get a table straight away. Great service, yummy food. Didn't feel rushed at all like you do at some places. Tino pai.
Good portions, tasty food. Definitely recommend.
Very fresh food , price went up a bit. ( guess everywhere happens)
Friendly service and good atmosphere. We enjoy eating at the Browns Bay branch so we tried this new branch. Was also recommended by a colleague. However, I would probably avoid having the yum cha menu for dinner. Crispy fried squid was so chewy and overcooked. I think there was only 1 or 2 prawn in each rice roll, if at all. The red bean sesame ball was kinda stale. The rest were okay but overall, not a good yum cha experience for us unfortunately.
Compared to some other Chinese restaurants, there aren't that many dishes to choose from. Food is good. Can have dim sum for dinner but can be a bit of a wait. Atmosphere is nice, historic chinese architecture.
This was our 1st time here, although we have been going to the Browns Bay restaurant for many many years. We arrived, were shown to a table and before the last person had settled we had fresh, hot yummy food options in front of us, this would easily be the best Yum Cha in Auckland. We normally go across town, but I’m very happy to say - not anymore. Jackson & the team were very helpful & hugely accomodating as I’m in a wheelchair, with exceptionally friendly, fast and efficient service.
Thank You for a great & truely memorable experience, it was enjoyed by all.
Absolutely fantastic place to enjoy healthy food cooked to perfection. My experiences dining here have been memorable. All staff including chefs & managers have been hardworking to provide happy customers a great selection of cuisines better than fast food & better served with green tea of course. Recommended 100% come enjoy the very best of Asian cooking 👍❤☺
Delicious food, extremely helpful staff, prompt service, spotlessly clean.
I came here tonight, the place overall is lovely, amazing design and interior. The food is delicious, I wholeheartedly recommend you try this place out. Aside from the food, the staff were friendly—which should be expected. 10/10 experience. ^_^
For dinner costs about 50 dollars per person if you want to eat your fill.
Wasn't too bad.
Ordered online.
Service was great!
Ordered prawn toast which comes in a quantity of 4.
Fried rice definitely not worth $25 considering the portions are around the same as a standard chinese takeaway, and don't taste much different.
Would say is an okay place if you're craving Chinese food, but wouldn't rave.
Nice place, delicious food. Parked on the street, about 20 meters from the entrance.
Very nice yum cha, really have enjoyed a nice experience.
Best yum cha in Auckland, service was incredible, everyone is so helpful and super friendly. Food was fresh, delicious and cooked to perfection and great value for $$$. Highly recommended and worth the trip if you live far from Albany.
Good food and good service. Free parking
Went there for lunch today. Great friendly and welcoming customer service
One of the better yumchar restaurant in the shore. Service is great. Food comes out on regular intervals and very tasty!
Great place it was so busy but they squeezed us in and it was yum! Really good price we had to take some food home we couldn’t eat it all. Will def be back 🤩
I tried yum char and dinner. Generally food is authentic and the variety is good.
Food is absolutely delicious. The restaurant building very dated and definitely needs improvement. Our first visit was great seated near the front. Second visit, we were seated in the table at the back and while seated we noticed insects that put us off ordering more food. Be good to see the place get an upgrade as the food is great.
Clean and tidy , with air condition, food and variety are good.
Went here as a group of six for yum cha lunch. Opened at 11am and the trolleys of food were quick to come out to the dining area. A great selection of dishes to choose from. Highly recommend prawn toast! It cost us about $25 each and we are really full and took leftovers home. Best to arrive close to opening time.
The food should be good if it was warm enough. We went at 12 and the food wasn't warm enough. Had to order something on the menu that we didn't see in the cart to be hot enough. Such a shame.
Yum char dishes are delicious and good price.
Dishes come out hot and there is always plenty of condiments like soy sauce, chilli sauce at no extra charge.
Decor is average but place is popular cause food is great.
So good place. Every food is perfect!
Amazing place with great food decent customer service and plenty of space very cozy and would recommend here if you like your chinese cuisine
Another good yum char place to go to. Food is delicious and service is smooth. Highly recommend!
Delicious dumpling lunch. Almost as soon as we had sat down, we got a pot of tea and received a visit from the dumpling trolley. Chose a few steamed pork/shrimp/prawn dishes and picked a selection from the tray of fried dishes. Delcious all of it. Service quick and reasonable prices.
There is a lot of flavour and all of our parents and friends enjoy it
I would highly recommend this place for yum char if you are out west. Service is efficient despite it always being so busy and the food is always fresh. We come here so often I think the owners know our family now. The kids favorite are the live shellfish that swims in the big tank at the entrance!
Very cool place to go, yummy food with good customer service. Definitely revisit again soon with friends 🧡
Having traveled several times to China.I know what good Chinese food tastes like. And now I have found it in Albany. Great surroundings ,friendly staff, reasonable prices. Highly recommended.
The food was great and lots of parking
Never had to wait too long for the food. Friendly staff. Variety of dishes. Reasonable priced. Fairly clean bathrooms, though the locks were broken. Parking side is not sealed, gravel surface so careful when you're in heel.
Very Average Yum Cha.. Have tasted lot better than this. Prices Quite high compared to most other places and they charge you for tea even if you don't want. In our case we didn't even get any tea and when we asked after learning we'll be charged no refund.. what a joke.
Very spacious and clean. Convenient carpark. Extremely fast service, literally sit down and they will bring the food trolley + multiple trays. Everything tastes fresh. Went for lunch and was in and out within 20 minutes. Not super cheap but not very expensive. I recommend the bbq pork rice rolls and sticky rice.
Superb food. Will be going back for more for sure.
Nice place to dine. Consistent and good food. Nice chilly oil especially. The receptionist was mega rude buts thats alright and expected of a Chinese place.
OK, that's one word to describe this place. It is expensive to eat here, and would not recommend strongly, as their buns have a scanty amount of filling and will not make you happy if you eat their pork buns, it is a dissapointment.
Their service is nice though, there is a lot of staff to help you, and theyre pilote and wear masks. However, they have too many staff, and makes you feel a bit uncomfortable for my liking.
The food, is pretty average, we had lots of stuff, but I rememeber their ribs being very hard and have very little meat on them. Plus the beans dish was super salty.
What a great place to eat. We have been looking for yum cha in West Auckland for ages and decided to give this place a try for lunch. Wonderful service, friendly staff and such a great variety of yummy dim sum and other tasty treats. We will definitely be back.
Great food and fast service, authentic and real Chinese food, delicious.
The best yum cha restaurant I have been too. Place was packed, we were seated quick and food arrived instantly. Delicious shrimp dumplings, fried squid, chilli dip, rice. The food is so fresh and these people work fast. Can't wait to go back
It was a hidden gem that is bursting with flavors! I didn't get to take photos because the food was so good we just dove in.
It tasted as good as it looked and when you get a chance to try it, you might not be able to get any snaps either!
The Chinese restaurant that we go all the time for our family reunion. I have been there at least 5 times so far. The food is always delicious and the portion size is big enough. Highly recommended
A very interesting way of eating however I was impressed and very reasonable priced ,,,if I went again I would tried a lot more different foods
Wow what an amazing place staff really friendly and food great. The food came out at an astonishing rate. There were four of us and it cost $71. Which I consider good value for money. So thanks to the staff.
Food was very well priced. Presentation was average.
Room was too cold & too bright. I didnt take off my jacket.
I had the duck & it was a bit dry & fatty.
Service very attentive.
First time coming here, and we loved it, from the time we were greeted and seated, to the explanation of how Yum Cha works, the food, oh so very yummy! Another great example of good local food and hospitality in our West Auckland, thank you Asian Wok, we will be back, cheers 😀🇳🇺
Nice environment and great customer service, with yummy food provided. Strongly recommended 👍👍👍
Food is good 👍 and they do steamboat as well, haven't yet steamboat yet. Yum Cha recommended
Really good yum cha spot. Always busy thou so be sure to get in quick for a table, this shows how good the food is. Plus staff are lovely, and the owner is always involved and attending customers as well.
We had a great time here
I just liked the prawns and chive dumplings and some other pork dumplings. The service was too quick and couldn't understand what was on the menu the way the staff was explaining it.
Our first visit to Asian Wok. Had Dim Sum at 5pm Friday the 13th. The staff were quick, helpful & efficient. Food was excellent. We were served nice hot Chinese tea (free) As a vegetarian I had soy noodles ($14). The portions were very generous. My father had wonton soup ($9). He too could not finish his. They provided chilli oil sauce & soy sauce (free). The young manager generously gave us free containers to take away the unfinished food and even a fabric bag that normally costs 50 cents. Thank you Asian Wok team we will return.
Amazing variety of choices and the shrimp dumplings are packed with shrimp. Exceptionally clean including the bathroom.
Delicious flavours and friendly staff. Great combination.
Brisk, crowded. Food is good. Staff is polite but brusque. Sitting was limited to 1 hour so basically it wasn't a place to relax and have a chat if there is a larger group of people.
UPDATE JUNE 2022:
****This place is now the "Go to" Yum cha for friends and I. We have visited other Yum Cha around Tamaki Makaurau, but so far, Asian Wok is still my Number 1 preferred place!
*****Keep up the amazing work Team!!!
Atmosphere and decor is nice, clean and warm.
Food was yum and service was fast and efficient.
The prawn toast are AWESOME and huge!!
Pork and prawn siu mai excellent.
Prawn dumpling soup was delicious.
Heaps of free parking.
Clean environment, good space, taste, portion to enjoy our brunch yumchar. Improved a lot from start of business.
Delicious food. Would have given 5 stars however, had to wait a long time for the food to be served. Perhaps, it was a busy time due to Christmas Eve. Would definitely go there again.
Yum Cha was below par. If you think Yum Cha here is good then you probably think Kiwi Fruit on a pizza is awesome.
However I haven't tried dishes from their menu, so I will come back again and try.
Great food and service highly recommended
It's was second time visiting this place not many varieties like there used to be. I don't blame, it might be due to covid effect and reduced numbers. Anyhow it was really good food.
Good food, nice service. We went there for lunch from work, really enjoyed it.
The variety of food was good and the staff was friendly and helpful.
Liked it.
Thank you guys.
We were accommodated even if its 15 minutes before closing time. I liked the food specially the fried squid. Very delicious. Looking forward to eat again.
Compare with other fancy big yam cha place here is an average. Some dishes are very yum some are average some are not very good. It's much cheaper then other yum cha place. For lunch, recommend for west Asians for quick eat. I dont recommend for locals
Sunday. We managed to get table for two. Food and service were excellent. Very popular. Especially on sunday. If yum cha is your thing go there
Visited this place last week for yamcha.
Very satisfying service and real canton taste. Love it
Quite a good place for steamboat fish soup, abit of wait but good food and nice atmosphere with Good service staff friendly and helpful,
Family outing to celebrate a special Birthday.
So friendly and food delicious.
Highly recommend.
Best yum cha in West Auckland. Much better taste and even cheaper than Mr Lobster Private Kitchen. Highly recommend!
Came here for yum char lunch with my partner, ordered loads of food & even some takeaways & bill came to $75.50 for us both. Really tasty food.
Beautiful fresh food. Lovely service and very kind staff. Great atmosphere & family friendly. Best yum cha in the west.
Typical pricey yumcha joint. Food quality is above average to good, and thus the price.
Loved it. Fresh food, great service. Plenty to choose from. Yum cha and order from the menu.
We tried the yum char takeaway service today, because level 3 lockdown, great selection of food, easy to order online, food & service was great, fully recommend it.
Thanks you to all the staff.
This is an awesome restaurant friendly welcoming staff and the yum cha is delicious, food arriving hot and quick so much to choose from we'll be back- is next Sat too soon?
It Was so good the Yum cha Was the one of the best in Auckland and quite cheap the service was so good and everything is nice
Wasnt sure what to expect, loved it. Good price, nice variety, very quick service. Nice to finally have a yum char out west that is worth visiting.
Great food at great prices
Tried yum cha here. Really nice. Had to wait in queue to get a table for lunch on Sunday.
Food and service is good. If you're looking for a yum cha place, this place is nice.
