We came here for dinner recently and were thoroughly impressed. The small restaurant was very cozy and the staff very friendly. We had a hard time deciding so ended up sharing two meals. Though the portions did not look very large they were very filling and tasted great. Between two of us we still had enough left over for lunch the next day. The naan bread was probably the best I've had in a long time - cooked to perfection and both crispy and soft as well as full of flavour. The best part was that the prices were reasonable and probably considered cheap. I would definitely recommend this place and will certainly be returning!

This takeaway and dine-in restaurant is a must visit place in Onehunga. They are open lunch time 11:30am -2:30pm and Dinner 5pm-10pm. They have wide array of selections from desserts to Main Course, as well as drinks. We ordered Chicken Biryani and Buttered Chicken with Nan and samosas. It was lovely and worth the price we paid. The guy that serves us, I think his name is Mico, is really really reliable and nice. He has a great smile on his face from the moment we entered up till the end. Will definitely go back and try some other dishes.

Very good butter chicken here. Although it wasn't as spicy as I'd hoped for. The mild was about as spicy a milk, medium starts to get a bit of heat, and hot was just right for me (however at most other indian takeaways I find even mild or medium to be the same as the hot here so just keep that in mind)

I was looking to try some Indian food & found this place on uber eats Order some chicken & naan bread it was really delicious after few days i went to the restaurant to see where about it is & place the same order again I was surprised that food taste was exactly same(in some places it’s changed every time) Then before I write this review I tried some vege curries also both were awesome. This place is surely recommended. May not be fancy for dine in but food quality is really good, Give it a try

Hope this place doesn't disappear after lockdown - great for takeaways and cozy, intimate setting for dining (gets beautiful afternoon sunlight). Naan bread must have improved since the last reviews because it was perfect! Delicious and great prices.

The food is still exemplary, along with the ambience and service. How some people rate them less than 5 stars is beyond me. This is a consistently good place to eat or take away .Still probably the best Indian restaurant in Auckland! The food is divine and cooked to perfection. Specially butter chicken is awesome 👏 The staff are attentive and friendly. If there was any gripe it may be that customers are a little crammed in. A small price for perfection I say.

The food here is amazing! I have been going almost weekly to this restaurant since it opened several years ago. It has to be one of the very few restaurants, of any type of cuisine, that is consistently great. The service is also superb. I Love this place. I am a western guy who loves curry - and I have very high standards. I still try as many different Indian restaurants as I can and I just have to keep coming back to Black Pepper. It is just so good. Try it once! You will not be disappointed. And I bet you too will find it hard to stay away!

Then I got a little craving for it and ended up at this restaurant..... Wow! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great too! It the night after and I am craving a curry again. Went to Black Pepper last weekend with the family. A great place to enjoy authentic Indian cuisines. The food was great, freshly cooked and well presented. The waiters were very attentive and over all service was great.Great atmosphere with great service and good value, will certainly be going back :)

Black Pepper is a force not to be messed with, as it is fantastic. In a small little restaurant off a main Onehunga road, hidden in plain sight is a little treasure box packed to the brim with good quality food. The currys, all teeming full of flavour, will make you leave satisfied and wanting more. It is a place that I trust with expanding my Indian taste buds and opting for something new. Black Pepper are encouraging me to become more adventurous. Next time I will stray away from my comfortable choice of lamb korma(which was fantastic) and dive deeper, into a menu I've never thought of exploring.

My regular takeaway spot since they set-up there several years ago. Am satisfied with the cooking and I keep going back. Good that they're licensed for a sit-down beer with the meal, though the place doesn't really carry a good sit-down vibe, even though they're sufficiently set up for that as it's quite small compared to most other Indian restaurants. Good that there is the window through to the kitchen so that one feels more involved in the meal -whether that be pick-up or dine-in. The staff are always friendly.

Our weekly treat! This local gem serves the most delicious lamb saagwala and guggli masala. Love the well balanced flavours! Plenty of gluten free options and a lot of the dishes can be made dairy free as well - great job guys!

I'm not a big fan of Indian food, but a friend recommended this place, and it turned out to be fantastic and got take away . The food was delicious and authentic indian taste . the portions quite big, and priced very well. Although the take away I would definitely recommend trying this place out!

Great service, very decent price and the food was absolutely gorgeous. On the most recent visit we had the Veggie pakora which was just sensational and although it was battered it was still light and crisp with no oily residue. We shared butter chicken and chicken korma and they did not dissappoint, we ordered them as a mild and they still packed a wonderful punch of flavour. I would also reccomend the garlic naan however their plain naan is also just as delicious

Fantastic food in terms of the curry. The meat was well marinated and the curry appropriately spiced. Their plain naan was fantastic and the service was prompt. The ambience leaves a lot to be desired feeling quite underlain tainted and compared to the rest of their food the cheese and garlic naan was disappointing albeit passable.

I rated 5 stars, I never got into Indian food, but I was hungry and black pepper had a good rating so I tried them out. For those of you who're unsure, give it a try... its GOOD! If you have a western pallet and have a love for western fast food - as I do, order the lamb boohna, and have it with the garlic cheese naan... thank me later. Oh, and if you're willing to give indian food a go, don't go to curry leaf down onehunga mall, give it a proper chance at black pepper. -July 2018 update, still excellent food and service... best in Auckland!

Went after recommendations from a few colleagues. Arrived to see this little Indian restaurant with very dark decor and old carpet on the floor. Menu was greasy and due to the open kitchen, we have decided to takeaway our meals and eat at a local park. We ordered two curries (okra and lamb saagwala), which comes with rice. We also ordered a garlic and butter naan on the side. Food were good in general, saagwala could have more spinach and the okra dish had a few very fibrous ones in there which you'd discard if you were cooking this at home. Portion size was good. The naan bread was quite big could have ordered one to share between two. Bill came to $30+ in total.

Let me specify - Food is outstanding Me and my wife bought a coupon from Grab 1 . we went on for dinner on monday which is always less crowded and they do have specials anyway on mon. we ended up ordering exta naan with BYO . we had such great time enjoying the food we eventually were so full we couldnt finish the Tikka masala. i am the last person you can imagine wasting food and i thought i might as well take the leftover home. it was almost a full bowl of chicken tikka left . That's alright I know deals would come with certain conditions we might no like. I wish I could have that delicious food as takeaway. Brilliant food a must visit for foodies who love Indian food in Auckland.
