Went for our anniversary just recently. Can't say enough nice things, the staff and food were both amazing. I asked for them to put a little note on a napkin for my wife to scrapbook and they had made napkin flowers and left flowers and chocolates on top of writing on the napkins for us. A very memorable experience for us and plan to visit a lot more frequently!

Greattt authentic German restaurant. If you want a comfy and home type cooked meal then this is a perfect place to eat! Best selection of German brews and massive proportions of food. Made me feel like i was back experiencing a bit of Germany.

The place is okay, but it would be great to see at least one vegan option on the menu. I checked the website before going with a group of friends and thought there was one vegan alternative (there are 3 vegetarian). But it turns out it was a typo on their website. Of course I found out when we were all there, so the only alternative was to eat fries (which were very nice and a large portion to be fair).

Been coming to this place for about 15 years now and they consistently deliver quality every time. The schnitzels are all very good but they also do a pretty great Fred Flintsone style pork hock and goulash. Reservations are recommended because it always is busy.

Their food is really good, the pork was juicy and the potato dumplings were flavourful, with the purple cabbage complimenting the dish nicely. The serving sizes are massive, an excellent change from most NZ restaurants where you don't get enough food for a main dish. The schnitzel here are also done very well, and I've been told the beer is also good. (I don't drink alcohol.) Customer service is excellent - the waitress that served us was very friendly and professional, and the wait time to receive our food was really short. Well worth visiting again.

A German institution at the heart of Kohi. Feels like you've been transported to a miniature beer hall in Munich. Der Metz might be the closest thing to traveling to Germany in the next few years... Smallest size of beer is 500ml! The portion sizes are massive. Highly recommend the chicken schnitzel. Get the double portion and take the extra piece for a meal at home 🙂

MILANESAS COMO EN ARGENTINA - The food is amazing, really good quality and quantity for an excellent price. If you are argentinean and you really miss your grandma’s “milanesas” this is THE place, same taste, the sauces are not spicy, the double portion is for 2 persons and don’t end up super full!! The only thing is that sometimes is very crowded and takes time to have the food, but if you are happy to wait, the food is really worth it!!

I came here with a group of 4 and before she seated us the waitress advised there was a wait time of 45 minutes for food. We appreciated the heads up but I don’t think we even waited 30 minutes which was great. Meals were definitely generous and very tasty. I had the jagerschnitzel for main and apfelstrudel for dessert and both were delicious. This is the place to come especially if you like Schnitzel. Service was friendly and helpful.

One of my favorite German restaurants here in Auckland. Their German Radler is a must must must have.🍻🍺 Get that in their huge beer jug and you can just be lost in it forever. They serve bloody huge portions of mains and the price is also affordable for the quantity that is provided. My friends and, I ordered the Paprika Schnitzel, Catch of the day and Medallions of Venison as seen in the pictures below. Man, we were struggling to finish them all in one go but had to do a take away after and eat it at home. The food remained scrumptious. Great environment, music and service. Also loved the ambiance. Will definitely go there again when time permits. 👌👌

Wow what an experience! This took me to home cooked food from Austria. We got the Deutsch platter, pork hock and pork schnitzel along with a krombacher beer or two. Very generous portions. Friendly and helpful staff.

Large portions and great ambience. Packed a bit too tight on a busy night and we waited a bit long for our food. The schnitzel looked really good and I enjoyed the Deutsche platte myself as it was a perfect mix to try a lot of what they have to offer.

I had big hopes for this restaurant, to finally have a proper schnitzel. Unfortunately the meat doesn't seem to be seasoned. Portions are really huge, service was great and the waitress was dressed into German outfit, the ambient is pleasant, but like I said - if they could start using some seasoning that would make food tastier, they would get more stars.

Came with a fairly large group so we booked beforehand. We were welcomed once we entered and shown to our tables. The waitress was quite helpful when we were ordering drinks. They have 1L vessels of beer, some of which you con't get anywhere else. Once everyone showed up we ordered without much waiting or fuss. Most of us ordered schnitzel, but only a few dared to get two pieces. The schnitzel comes in beef, chicken or pork and they also have other items like the pork hock. Food came around the same time and it was delicious. The schnitzel is quite big and crispy and tasty. Fantastic food, drinks and service.

There is lots of parking in the area all around the Restaurant which makes is easy for access. Make sure that you do a booking in advance. We sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air and scenery. It is a big Restaurant and has quite a lot of seating inside and outside. We had some drinks and I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel and my partner the Pork Knuckle. Because the food is freshly prepared, there is a wait for the food - believe me that it is more than worth it. The meals a very big and definitely value for money. We spent 2 hours there and we took two "doggy bags" home. The overall atmosphere there is great. The staff are dressed in Traditional dress and are very helpful and friendly. I will definitely recommend them to any future customers and they are pet friendly where we were sitting outside. We will definitely be back.

The pork hock is big enough for 2 to share and at $32 a good deal. Or 2 schnitzel for the same price and you are full. The beer selection is good and well priced. German beers have nice flavour. The strudel to finish is also class and reminds me of my time in Germany and Austria. Friendly staff and a nice location.

Always wanted to try this place so here I am on Thursday 24 November sipping on a nice cold German Schőfferhofer Hefeweizen ($11.00 for 500ml) - German Weizmann Bier (wheat beer) - very nice too. Heard the hock is good here but is huge so am going to try the pork sausages (Nűrnberger) ($18 entrée size) comes with mash potatoes & sauerkraut. Always looks busy when I have passed with a real Geman feel. Clean & tidy. They did want to charge me the main price on leaving, but I had only ordered the entrée.

I had the crumbled camembert as an entree I recommend going there just for that and I chose the schnitzel with mashed potatoe as the main. The best schnitzel I've ever had. The friend I went with had the pork hock. If you are a lover of meat you won't be disappointed with the portions here. They have a great selection of German beers I went with the No 5 and I can now say I have a new favourite German beer. I can't recommend it more highly. I'll definitely be going back. The service was top notch too. If you are looking for something different with great food and service you won't be desappointed. Chris

Wide array of classic German dishes and beers. Also starters, wine and dessert though I didn't try any of them. Generous servings, tasty food. German & Austrian staff, so knowledgeable about the various different dishes and beers. The restaurant is quite small with tables fairly close together. There are also tables outside in front of the restaurant. The night I went (7:30pm on a Thursday), the inside tables were all in use, so would be worth booking.

Brilliant. I went with my German friend for a deeper experience. Huge helpings, and I got exactly what the menu said I'd receive. The Pork Belly was ideally prepared, the dumplings were delicious and the gravy was rich and tasty. Additionally the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The food was great! I really liked the Jägerschnitzel! Espicially the beef that is bread crumbed and dipped in mushroom sauce (more like gravy with mushroom)! But a huge issue is that the price is way too expensive. It costs 27 dollars for it. Even though it is offered in a big serving, I feel like the price should be around 20 dollars. The ice cream was like 12 dollars for like 4 scoops. You could easily buy a 2 litre tub of ice cream from the supermarket at a cheaper price. Also the cashier was not the best because she rang our group up to pay. She said I needed to pay 27 dollars, I handed over 30 dollars, and after everyone finished paying, she asked any of us back who paid and need change. I asked for my change and she didn't give the 3 dollars back. I wasn't so happy about it. :(

9 of us dined here today for lunch. On a Saturday. There was our table, and 3 other large groups there. The young waitress promptly took orders for drinks and food. She is AMAZING! She was waiting on all 4 of our groups basically on her own, and doing an incredible job at remembering orders, and ensuring all our needs were being met. She was also doing all the drinks. She was obviously under extreme pressure, but she was super friendly and happy to spend the time to wait for those of our table who just couldnt decide what from the menu to order. The food took almost an hour to arrive, but the waitress took the time to apologise to us for the wait, and explained that the largest table of diners (20 pax) were unexpected, and they were down one staff member. We were happy drinking and appreciated the clear and friendly communication. She let us know when the food was 5 minutes away. The meals came... and they were HUGE. There were smiles all around the table, and some slightly panicked faces as people realized 1 schnitzel was probably all they needed, but we'd all ordered 2 each. At the end of the meal - everyone agreed it was delicious. These are big hearty meals, with great German beers and a range of wines, schnapps, and the usual's all available. We're a family with Germans in it. These meals are on par - and in the case of the Schnitzels, larger than any meal we've had in Germany. If you want hearty food and great beer - Go!

I've tried German restaurants in a few different cities around the world, but Der Metz is without a doubt the best example of German cuisine outside of Germany that I've ever tasted. The staff are lovely and the decor is interesting and varied in it's demonstration of German towns and cities. I had the Jägerschnitzel with two beef servings and Spätzle. It was an amazing serving size for the price and I ended up needing to take some home. Long story short, I'll definitely be coming back here again given the opportunity.

Der Metz, decor is that of an insane, lively beer hall in Europe, with flags, buntings, crests, beer steins, cuckoo-clocks; a German-Bavarian restaurant-like ambience, buzzy vibrant vibe. Be hungry when you order – huge servings, generous portions of sauerkraut. We've never managed to finish our dinner there – take-it-away for lunch the next day; leaving room for desserts of heisse liebe, apfelstrudel: sublime.. Good, friendly, welcoming restaurant, sit outside on summer's day/night. Very efficient English-German-speaking pleasant staff, good food, wines & beers, reasonable prices. I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), all sightseeing has to be well-researched and not overly taxing; I wear a legbrace.

As always great food but amateur service to the point of being lazy. For example we ordered some beers.. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes... Only 3 tables full and 3 waitresses. I went to the counter.. One was texting on her phone and the other two talking. I asked if they had a brewery and perhaps they were brewing the beer. Eventually they brought the beer. No apology.. At the end we had a sorry for the wait. Sorry Der Metz.. Simply not good enough. The waitresses were lovely but obviously not trained well. Improvements need to be made if the place is to be taken seriously.

A rollercoaster ride. The waitress was not in a great mood and it showed, the food was really awesome but strangely organised. If you order one single peice of schnitzel, you get two/three. If you order a two peice, you get four. We all ordered our food at the same time but it didn't come out together, and some of us were nearly finished while others were receiving the food. They didn't have POS system, so they added up our meals prices on a calculator, then overcharged us. Overall the food was reasonably priced and tasted good, however the service could have been better.
