You don't have to be Dutch to enjoy the foods at Dutch Delight! Take a trip to Birkenhead for a taste of The Netherlands and enjoy the warm hospitality of Willem, Heidi and family. My tip: patat oorlog, vegetarian croquet and the vegetarian pancake.

Came here tonight with family to celebrate my child's birthday. The food and service was amazing 3 of us had the Famous Dutch stew called Hauhee it was absolutely delicious we throughly enjoyed it every piece of meat was melt in your mouth. And the pancakes were superb too. It's a lovely little family owned business the owner was lovely they even gave a candle a happy birthday with some pancakes for the birthday people the kids get a lucky dip to choose from was a nice little touch at the end. Definitely a place to celebrate especially with kids.

One of the best secrets of the locals. Been here many times and never disappointed. Their peanut sauce is just divine. Worth every bit of the 30pp. Highly recommended to woo your dates. The proprietors are absolutely lovely and go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.

Love this place, the food is fantastic and the Dutch food is authentic. I love coming here, because its a reminder and familiar taste of a place I used to call home for a year. They have a good balance of mains (not too many that you feel overwhelmed) and your food is fresh, tasty and delicious. My favourite is their Poffertjes which are like bites of heaven that melt in your mouth.

The only dutch restaurant made with Home made food by Willem, in his sixties, he still manage this one and only resto in Birkenhead.. good food but overpriced..my hubby likes the pancake, and my son ordered nuggets but its the normal frozen nuggets you can buy at supermarket...if we will come back again?? I don’t think so..

I first got to know Dutch Delight through Groupon. I brought my aunty along and we were especially curious with the starters and snacks, with their lovely Dutch names, as this was the first time we tried Dutch food. They were yummy! I booked another meal for my family and Willem was very nice and made us feel at home and special. The mains, desserts and drinks (some were sinfully decadent and rich) were all very nice. Don't skip the fries with the lovely sauces, and you get to try a bit of different starters/snacks with the sharing platter. Lovely cosy ambiance.

Came by specifically for their poffertjes, which are essentially mini pancakes. I hadn't been back in a while and the place looks a bit fancier than before with standard tables as well as table benches. It does look a bit smaller though. They have other desserts (a page in fact) but came here just for the poffertjes. I had it with the ice cream and whipped cream just cause. It also came with a Dutch sauce which tastes like golden syrup. Good food and the service was also quite nice.

Great place, great food, and really awesome staff. Super friendly for the kids, with a kids menu and also a play area away from where the adults eat. Make sure you tell them if it’s your birthday as they go over the top looking after you! We went at Christmas time and the place is looking fabulous!

I've always wanted to come here when I'm over the shore and when a grabone was on offer, we decided to visit. It was my first time to really eat dutch food and it was delicious. Willem the owner was very friendly and helpful to make our decision and explain what was on the menu. We ended getting a 3 course meal and highly recommend the dutch poffertjes which is fried dough with butter and icing sugar. The dutch syrup tasted so good. Looking forward in coming back again and tasting more things from there menu

After a few months abroad we finally got to this Dutch snackbar in Auckland and what a treat it was! Definitely recommended for all Dutchies, Belgians and people interested in the Dutch food culture to come by! The ladies in the restaurant are very friendly and the fries (patatje oorlog), fried snacks (croquette, bamieschijf, frikandel speciaal) and drinks (millshake, smoothie and cassis) all tasted amazing!

Best dutch food in New Zealand and personally even in Nederlands! Cannot express how amazing this small dine in is. The customer service is exceedingly friendly and welcoming, truly an enjoyful enviornment. The owner, Willem is a very kind man and puts a smile to your face :) The food never fails to impress really capturing the taste of Dutch, my favourite is the pofferjes, they have a lovely area for children to play in and the restaurant is all around a warm setting. Great place for Dutch food, the stronger Dutch coffee (DE) en “gezelligheid”!! We enjoyed the “friet special & oorlog”, de “frikandel” en de poffertje.... pff volle pens met lekkernij :) Willem and his wife are doing a great job in representing Dutch (food) culture in Auckland. Besides the food they also sell some Dutch grocery products.

Really enjoyed our visit and being able to enjoy eating dutch food. We started with sharing platter which had yummy selection..I had chicken satay Mother size and it was big serve with fries and salad. Only suggestion would be to have the yummy peanut satay in separate bowl so I could control how much as even though it was super yummy it was just too much. Host was a lovely hospitable gentleman.

Amazing! Husband & I enjoy this place. First time we got a huge 1L milkshake, then we tried their hot chocolate which were very yummy and recently had the baklava pancakes which were amazing but incredibly sweet so had to take half home 😅 but one of the tastiest desserts Ive tried. I really can’t believe the value for money!! We came for lunch but were too full for dessert - I wanted dessert so here we are at 9pm. I had the Baklava Pancake. The dessert is next level fantastic and I wonder how one can pack so much taste and value into one pancake!! We wanted to try something new so we drove from Mt Eden to Birkenhead to know this place. We had a great time there. We wanted something sweet and this was the right place to get it! We ordered one hot chocolate and a mocca, both soy and they came on large glass cups with some kind of cinnamon dutch cookies (so yum). Also we ordered a Heidi's pancake (apple, cinnamon ad mascarpone). The best decision ever! The place is nice and every little part is Dutch, the staff is very friendly. The portions are generous and it's not expensive for the quantity and quality! We will definitely go there again!

Waited over an hour for our mains because there was evidently only one chef working on a saturday night, with a half-full restaurant. Food was, at best, average. And very expensive too. The best flavour of the night was from the peanut satay sauce; nothing else stood out above what you can make at home with average ingredients. NOTE: Be sure to make a booking if you want to redeem it. As it states on their counter that they won't accept these coupons if no booking was made prior. Which I found quite silly. Also, it's only valid for FOOD. So, if you order drinks you still need to pay for them separately. On top of that... food you order there... whether it was dried goods (such as biscuits to give as a gift) - you're not allowed to take it away? Which I found kinda odd too. All in all... it gets stars for the decor, the location, the food and the friendly waitress. It loses them via strict rules and regulations.

This is a great place for a casual meal, especially if you like pancakes. We went here for my daughter's (adult) birthday family dinner. The food was great, with substantial portions for some dishes and we got personalised, excellent service. At the end there was a surprise birthday cake and a lucky dip for the grandkids. Yummy authentic Dutch food with friendly and attentive staff and owner. Parking in the area is very challenging. The decor is different and will makes you feel the Dutch, a nice ambiance to enjoy the food. The spicy chai latte is nice especially with the touch of speculaas - spiced shortcrust biscuit. The portion of their meal is generous, however, their price is unfortunately a little bit on the expensive side of the scale.

Great authentic Dutch flavors, friendly and helpful staff, nice Dutch decorations and music. The original pancake and beef kroket were excellent. The beef kroket was handmade and had good quality meat in it. Our NZ family enjoyed their different pancakes very much. If you want it they can change the recipe for pancakes to use soy milk and egg replacement in case of allergies and intolerances. Prices are very reasonable too! Will probably go back here if time allows us!

The owner is a friendly and helpful man with a big heart for kids. While the adults indulge in a large selection of Dutch cuisine and delicacies, there is a kids play area at the back and all sorts of desserts to keep the young ones occupied. The decor all around easily puts you in a comfy mood with Dutch flowers, candle lighting and porcelain ware. At the end of your visit, kids get to have a lucky dip for bags of goodies and there are even authentic Dutch provisions to extend your experience. Easily located at the roundabout in the Birkenhead village.
