It was a completely American style meal, so I could have a good dinner because it was unique. I've been to many restaurants, but the interior of the store was impressive, and the atmosphere of the American style came out. The food was pretty good, too. The gravy fries were the best! you must eat gravy fries.. I can't say the service was very good. I didn't treat badly, but I didn't really feel the tone of voice and welcome. But if you want to have a special American meal, it's worth a visit 🤠🥯

Federal is back! We had the morning glory and Kahawai hoagie. It was my first time having the morning glory - great balanced salad with rocket, mint, and flat leaf parsley, a lightly sweetened vinaigrette, as a well as all the goodies (poached egg, halloumi, dukkah, smoked paprika, portobello mushrooms). The hoagie is pretty self explanatory - fresh white flaky fish in hot clean tasting batter set against a splash of acid with the tartar sauce and squeeze of lemon.

As much as I wanted to love my time dining here it was soured by a few minor annoyances that added up to an awkward and uncomfortable experience. After about 5 minutes of being seated, a member of our party called over a waiter and ordered a drink. At that point we were ready to order but the waiter had already left after the first item had been ordered, not giving anyone else a chance to order anything. At one point I had ordered some filtered coffee and sometime after I ordered was asked if anyone on our table had ordered coffee. Lastly we ordered the poutine fries with the rest of our food. All of our food came and we ate it all before the fries ended up arriving at our table, which if I was to guess would’ve been at least 20 minutes, when it did arrive it was just normal fries and we had to call the wait staff over again to correct our order. Again these are minor annoyances but it definitely didn’t help the customer service experience I will admit these grievances are quite pedantic and I can understand that on a busy Sunday at lunch the wait staff can get quite busy and the customer service may not be what it usually is. The food on the other hand was amazing. I couldn’t help myself and inhaled the fish hoagie without ever putting it down. The turkey on rye had a mind blowing combination of soft and crunchy texture and was filling without being heavy. The hot cocoa actually tasted like cocoa and not just warm sugar. Do yourself a favour and try some amazing deli inspired food! Overall I would recommend the Federal Delicatessen purely based on the food - it’s just that good. The customer service leaves a lot to be desired and I hope that it was a one off experience that I had.

Maybe it was the best brunch of my life, or it should be at least the best in Auckland. Food was incredible, environment was excellent (I felt like in the 60s!), very good bottomless coffee, super nice staff. 100% recommended

I asked for flat white right after sitting down, and realized Federal is purely American style so no kiwi coffee provided. This reminds me something about New York City. Waitress leads to the seat, a cup of cold water right away. I've not had any typical American coffee with milk since I moved to NZ. I kind of enjoy this good old days feeling. My breakfast is delicious. Not bad

Had a great hot dog, chicken salad sandwich (comes with gravy!) Side of small poutine chips. Yum! Great service too. Topped it off with an impressive pecan pie. The server topped my water 3 times without being asked. Highly recommend.

Montréal poutine is up to Canadian standards ! Finally found a restaurant that does decent poutine. Steak and fried cauliflower were delicious! A cute NY style diner atmosphere and good service. I 100% recommend and need to come back for the desserts !!!

Wonderful service and drinks, the food is very New York styled, so portion sizes might be what you expect. But the salmon is delicious! Would recommend.

Classic diner style food done really well. A favourite spot in Auckland I’ve been long overdue a re-visit. This is a humble restaurant that has a really good vibe. Love the poutine here.

Great food and service, staff are super friendly and always keep your coffee topped up. Cool booths and counter seating. Sandwich was great last time so I came back and had the veal this time, perfect.

Great restaurant with the whole American style diner theme right to the waitresses, furniture's, booth seating, bar and ultimately the food. The toasted reuben is heavenly and the same with the dessert pies!

Great restaurant that offers very different food for the Auckland market. Reminiscent of American dinners, the food though is much higher quality and has a reasonable price with great service. Some people may not like the standard filter coffee but I actually loved it. Meals are also very generous in size and we couldn't finish it so make sure you are hungry!

This place is always busy hence not recommended for the people who are wanting a place for a date with loved ones. (You cannot hear anything)Enjoyed the Breakfast and Dessert but not really about the all day dining menu (House Pastrami was nothing but disappointment and not worth the money)Will surely visit again for the Banoffee pie :)

Everything just awesome！ Bagels and asparagus are prefect~ Service nice and friendly. Can park the car in skycity carpark and get discount ticket when u pay,only $7 for an hour, even ct street parking $5 for an hour tho, Better park inside skycity to avoid walking haha

Pancakes, cinnamon buns, bottomless coffee- all amazing! But the real winner is the staff. There were some men making me and my friend uncomfortable, and they kept checking in with us and dealing with the men like champions. I honestly cant recommend this place MORE for the service, food and atmosphere quality. Love Fed Deli 💖

Super cool place. The atmosphere is really unique and the whole vibe is great for both couples and families alike. Food is very tasty especially the poutine. The only thing is it is a bit pricy for what you get. If you go and don't order pouting, you will most likely spend large or not be full.

This place is a masterpiece. Al Brown you are so clever! The detail is incredible. The food is outstanding and classic American/Canadian fare. Generous portions and well priced. Secondly the staff: They are acting the part beautifully. The barman had the toothpick in his mouth etc. The head waitress yelling out the orders to the cooks. Finally the decor: Everything is authentic. Must must visit.

We had a gorgeous weekend breakfast here of Salmon Latkes and Reuben. I have never had as Lovely lemon soda as I had here. Service was quick and pleasant. Super cute setting in an American diner style

Can I give them 10 stars? Such a beautiful experience at this quirky deli. The breakfast was so much more delicious then I could have hoped, and it involved a combination of flavours that I've never had before. Who knew filtered coffee could taste nice? Also, the service was outstanding. Lovely waitress made us feel very welcome and assisted. Wish places like this existed in Sydney!

Absolutely loved this place. It gives you a nice classic ‘American’ diner atmosphere with a lot of delicious savoury and sweet breakfasts to choose from. My personal favourite was the bottomless filter coffee they have, one cup just is not enough in the mornings. The food was spectacular and arrived in an orderly manner. Staff are also really nice and checked up on us quite regularly. Price-wise, it is a bit steep, but quality and size more than makes up for it.

We called in for breakfast and it was a real treat. Staff were fantastic and I came home with a branded mug so definitely drank the Federal koolaid. Our new go to when we are in town.

Great retro American-style diner/ deli with an excellent selection of comfort food and old favourites. The Salmon Latkes are my personal favourite along with the endless cups of filter coffee.

Good vegetarian options and the lemon and meringue pie was spot on. Staff were pretty cool as well.

The food is delicious and the portion sizes are good. Between two we shared the blueberry griddle cakes and the pastrami hash, both were very tasty but the combination of the two was a perfect brunch. There was maple syrup with the griddle cakes and the hash came with a nice, sharp mustard. The staff were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed (including drink refills). Really enjoyed our visit to Federal Delicatessen and would highly recommend it.

The food and service were great, and they had very good drip coffee (they had some different flavors). The pancakes were nice and fluffy, and they came with some sweet blueberry compote. The portions were pretty filling, too. The restaurant itself has a very 50's diner feel to it, so it felt very cool and retro. Definitely recommend stopping by for some good, wholesome breakfast!

Nice place and with a old school American diner feel. Was a bit concerned around only serving filtered coffee so I got the hot chocolate which wasn't hot but was really nice. The potatoes and pastrami hash was really good. Nice place. I'd go back.

Wow, these guys do not disappoint! This is a lovely 1950's style diner, with an amazing range of decadent savoury delights. We each had one of thier famous toasted Rubens, and oh boy, that was likely one of the best in the world. Perfect balance of salt, fat, sweet and acid! I would recommend this place for any occasion! Don't miss out if you're in Auckland, take a seat and enjoy one of the best sandwiches in the world!

I was not expecting to find a Jewish deli in Auckland CBD, but this was a nice surprise. It has an old school diner vibe, even the filtered coffee and uniforms. The food was amazing, couldn’t find many places that served pancakes. The cinnamon scroll is made fresh and a best seller everyday, the morning glory salad was filling but not heavy, and the pancakes were the highlight, made with blueberry, and a coffee cream and nut crunch topping. This was one of my favourites breakfast places to try in NZ, so much flavour and not your every day offerings.

Put this on your list when in Auckland. All the food and wine and cocktails are amazing. The Pie 3 way is dessert heaven and will put you into a food coma.

Stopped by since a friend was hankering for some poutine. We came by around 1300 but we didn't have to wait long for a table. lots of interesting items on the menu but went with the street dog washed down with creaming soda. The street dog was simple but tasty, toasted roll with onions and mustard. I thought that creaming soda would've been nice if it had a stronger flavour. The kitchen is open so you can watch them cook if you have the right table. Nice food and service.

TBH the only reason we've come so far has been to have a basic beer or two and enjoy the live music a couple of times. Have only ordered minimal food yet, like some chips, fried bites, and a cheesecake (which at least was what I'd call a proper cheesecake), but so far it was all the very classic deli/diner type stuff along with the no frills serving plates and plastic cups. I'm sure there's more I could try, so I'll remember to come by for lunch one day and see if I'll rank up or leave. But don't get me wrong, I'll still come back for music.

This was one of the best brunch places I have come across in Auckland. And is a MUST visit. Right opposite the Sky Tower. This place boasts of a wonderful menu. You can even watch your meal being prepared if you like since it's an open kitchen. It's quite a delight (and therapeutic) watching the Chefs prepare meals. I ordered the Street Dog which is an NYC Hot Dog with Mustard Mayo and relish. My partner ordered the Reuben, which is quite a popular item on their menu. We also got the bottomless coffee which allows you unlimited refills until you ask them to stop. A-MA-ZING! Loved the experience of brunch here. Will go back always!

Best cheesecake in town. The last time I went, I felt that their slices had become thinner but was not disappointed this time. Always a good place to grab dessert to finish off your dinner.

Situated at prime location "Infront of sky tower city centre". I liked the food. It was costly but worthy. Always Crowded so it would be great if you book it before going. Stuffs were good and welcoming.

The Fed is one of my staples - consistently have great food and service when my friends and I drop in (quite regularly). I'm also a fan of the late night eats (the wings I tell you). Trust me it's worth the wait so don't be annoyed if you're put on the wait list. Recommend this place to you with all my heart!

Always love this place and it's no wonder they're so busy. Expect at least 20min waits but they'll give you a call once it's ready. The food here is really good though a bit on the above average end. Their poutine is the best dish, though this time round they had forgotten to add the pastrami for our dirty poutine. Still great though.

Stuffed ourselves on so much goodness. The cheesecake is so good! The poutine so yum! Service felt a touch cold initially, they warmed up after a while though. Recommended!

OK - this is our local - it’s always buzzing over the weekends and most nights - popular with locals & tourists - and the menu highlight would have to be a large plate of Poutine - the gravy & cheese is divine. And the New York Cheese Cake is my fav dessert 🧀

This seems to be a theme in New Zealand. The food was really good, the service was okay but I sat at the bar and the young lady behind the bar was running her butt off. So I can't be too upset that my water didn't get refilled. It was packed when other places had nobody in it so you know the food's good, definitely worth stopping in and eating

Visited Federal Delicatessan recently because of the good reviews but it was very crowded and everything seemed quite rushed. The food was okay but the waiters walking past kept bumping into our table which made me quite uncomfortable. Seemed very chaotic.

I got a takeaway ny cheesecake just 5 minutes ago and the shape looks annoying. It seems like I lost one bite of cake T.T

Good sandwiches using quality ingredients. Huge portions. Great for a deli! Good place to do takeaway from if you're boarding any of the tour buses nearby at Sky Tower as well.

Mash mish is must to try dish, hot chocolate is really yum. Good place to have a lunch, friendly staff. I would recommend to go to this place after shopping on queen street.

The service at Fed Deli can be a little hit and miss, but the food is always good. Cool decor, real American diner style right down to the uniforms. I have been here a few times before, sometimes service is good, other times is poor - such as when I pay for a bottomless cup of coffee and never get a refill. Would definitely recommend the Chicken Salad sandwich. It has crispy chicken skin inside the sandwich and is served with a small ramekin of gravy. The cheesecakes are also pretty good. Overall, Good place to come if you are in the area and after a good meal, but don't expect the best service in Auckland.

We go here almost weekly...the food is excellent, the staff are attentive....AND...they just brought the chocolate cherry pie back!!!!..... excellent.... oh, and try the meat balls...more than enough to split between 2 with a side salad..or their famous poutene...

Love the atmosphere. Been a favorite since my husband and I started dating and still go there when we get the chance. Salmon Latkes is a favourite dish with amazing c bottomless coffee.

Really liked the place and atmosphere. Although it was seriously packed. Which is probably why they took forever to prepare our meals. Their steak was okey. Not bad but I wouldn’t consider it something I’d come back for. Especially with less expensive options available.

Right at the doorstep of the iconic SkyCity complex, the Federal Street Deli aka “The Fed” was full to bursting when we arrived at 10:30pm on a Saturday night after a sporting event. Nonetheless a friendly waitress found us a spot to dine at the bar, where the dashing bartender looked after us for the rest of the night. His service - as well as the other staff - was friendly and efficient in spite of how busy they were, even taking the time to chat with us about other venues we could try when in town. We found The Fed delivered an authentic diner experience; my NYC hot dog fantastic value at $11, the caramelized onions really setting it apart from just another dawg you could get anywhere. I was thrilled to finally get some decent poutine, and my companion rated his chicken highly, delicious and moist with crisp skin. We couldn’t resist the prospect of the trio of pies to share to finish, and at $20 they were all a decent sized portion, great flavors and a fun way to end our night. And the real cherry on top? The water we were served through our meal was ICE cold. A small detail… but one we kept remembering and being impressed by when discussing our meal. Getting these small details right must be why this eatery remains so popular.

I've been meaning to go here for a long time and I was not disappointed! The decor of this place is just so awesome you really feel like you're in a New York deli. Ordering off the brunch menu I went with the street dog, latkes with creme friache and apple sauce, then the best part poutine with pastrami. Its such well thought out classic hearty deli food I'll be back there for dinner tonight!

Our 1st day in Auckland as we were bit tired and we were looking for good breakfast place and we found this. In the city center. Amazing food, beautiful ambiance and great service. Price was normal n quantity was good.

One of the friendliest staff I’ve ever met. My experience here would have been a perfect one until one of the staff got pissed off for possibly me waiting for my friend to arrive before ordering. Anyway, excellent service and loved the food. Will definitely be back sometime soon!

We really enjoyed this restaurant deli. We had an early dinner and my veal and my partner's sole were basically perfect as were the side salad and fries. The dessert pie slices were also top notch. Great service as well.

A great taste of Americana. Had a Rueben sandwich, chicken sandwich, matzo ball soup and Poutine. All of these dishes were better than I had hoped and the price was good as well. Wild love to visit again.

Loved the food at this American style diner. All the food we ordered was so yummy. The fries with gravy were so good. I ordered a sandwich on rye but it came with multigrain bread instead - only negative thing but the sand which was still really yummy!!

This could have been a 5 star experience, but the music coming over the speaker was so loud the server and I had a hard time communicating. The Ruben was delicious. The pastrami was lean, tender and an excellent flavor. Top notch. The Cole slaw was not my favorite. I have never been a fan of vinegar based slaw. Maybe it's an American thing. I will definitely be back and maybe change my rating if I sit in a different location and don't get tinitus after my meal.

Normally I would take photos of all the food for my review but it was so damn delicious that I forgot. The house made pastrami was tender and flavorsome with the pickle sauce. The chicken just fell off the bone and went perfectly with the potato salad. The salmon blinis were such a great way to start. And dessert - my dinner companions say they were good as they looked!

They have a very special variation of eggs Benedict. But my fav is the Reuben. Their pastrami taste awesome!

Fast and attentive service, but most importantly the food is AMAZING. I'm from New Jersey so I take my deli food seriously. This place knows what it's doing. You will not be disappointed. Full bar and brunch available. Honestly, my favorite breakfast spot in Auckland.

Food was real good, but service/timing of food was off. Went with my partner, ordered a salmon bagel for myself and a Salmon Latkes for my partner. Salmon Latkes arrived first (5 to 10 min wait which is alright). Waited 5 mins ask about the Salmon bagel, waiter said she will check with kitchen. Waiter came back and told me its still cooking and on its way. Waited another 10 minutes and it finally came with no apology. Not sure why the bagel took a lot longer than the Salmon Latkes - wouldn't of mind if they told me the forgot. Salmon Latke's dish got cold as we were waiting for that bagel to arrive to take a photo of both dishes.

Absolutely astounded at my first pick for lunch in New Zealand. House made pastrami, pickles, and mustard were definitely some of the best I've ever had! The poutine was excellent as well! Started with one of their excellent bagels, the large pastrami (as their menu recommends, should he shared) was way too much for me and my fiancé. But honestly, not a complaint because it meant we had an excellent late night snack! Staff was very courteous and friendly, and it was added fun to watch the chefs spit roast chickens and prep plates while we ate. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't end up there again to try other menu items before heading back home.

This place is absolutely amazing! We have been in Auckland before 2 days and this is hands down the best meal we have had! Must try the pickled pork!

Friendly and efficient service, good range on menu, great tasting food,really like the surroundings. Just be aware they only have filter coffee, I was happy with it but just wanted to pass that on.

Such a cool and unique addition to the CBD. I feel this place is exactly what the rest of the city lacks in terms of the interior vibes. But the main reason we enjoyed it so much was the perfectly cooked NY Strip Steak and Montreal Poutine which was equally delicious and moreish. I’ve been to New York City, and honestly this “diner” styled restaurant is like a 5 star restaurant compared to a real American diner. Definitely worth a visit even if you might have to wait for a table.

Love pretty much everything on their menu. Roast chicen and NY strip highly recommended. Reuben sandwich is a must too. Friendly staff and great environment for the occasion.

You can enjoy NY style food at the reasonable prices. Coffee is bottomless. Three of us shared food and costed us $85 for lunch. Not bad. :)

Bold, Buzzy and a bit Brassy as befits it's New York theme. 😊 After being welcomed and seated, you get to choose really tasty food and drinks of your choice from their extensive menu. So good it's worth many visits. 😋

Perhaps a bit pricier than it needs to be ($12 for a slice of cheesecake stopped me cold and other desserts are >$12) but the food here is excellent and they've got things like Dr Brown's sodas (though not, to my chagrin, their cream soda), latkes, and matzo ball soup you won't find elsewhere.

This is a great place for a late night hang-out. I love their 3 pie trio. The atmosphere is cozy and eclectic. Although they are very busy most of the time, the service is good and wait times aren’t too long. Definitely a solid place for food in the CBD.

Mains were average. Dessert was out of the world. Worth going for the desserts.

I just have to comment and I tasted it again tonight - the buns in this case hot dog bun nowadays are sweet and are too thick and cake like, not just here. Anyway, this place is a gem! This type of diner was everywhere back in Eastern Canada and of course in parts of the States. We would certainly go back if we lived here.

I came here on my recent trip to Auckland, I had seen a Tik Tok video about them so I really wanted to go, and I was not disappointed! I got the chicken sandwich toasted with the gravy and it has to be one of the best things I have eaten, so good!! I got bottomless ice tea which was yum and ended it off with the pecan pie and OMG it was good. highly recommend! It does get really busy in there I went at 12pm on a Friday so it was the lunch rush but being by myself I got a seat easy as and it was nice to see a place so busy

The place looks great, the food was delicious, but the highlight is their dessert experience. We tried the 3 way and every single pie/cake was so amazing. Worth it just for that! Oh and the reuben was great too.

Ok i came back again the next day and had a ruben sandwich My god. This is the closest thing to makeing out with Beyonce anyone will ever get. I want to eat this sandwich before i die so i wont even mind if i end up in hell. Ill never eat another sandwich and enjoy it again as much as i did this pastrami melt. Eat here! Or don't its more for me.

Kind of like an American diner. Had a good vibe. We had poutine which was really tasty although the gravy was bordering on too salty. Then we shared the trio of pies, we chose the cheesecake, pecan pie and the banana and toffee pie. Pecan was hands down the winner. They were nicely presented. Would come again.

If you are looking for down to earth American style food (with some more modern cuisine optiins as well), coffee, service and surroundings, you have to try it. Be prepared to wait 15 mins for a table when they are busy coz its popular! You must try it. 😊👍

Tasty, laid-back American food. Considering the location, the value proposition is pretty great too. Ensure you grab some sides if you’re hungry (the small poutine makes a great substitute for plain old boring fries). Service was quick and attentive. Booked a group dinner here for my friend's belated birthday for Restaurant Month and we had a great experience. The food tasted great, atmosphere and staff are also wonderful. The highlights for me was the trolley service and the fish. Once you're done with dinner, take your receipt and go over to Little Culprit for 50% off your first cocktail. First impression was very good so I'll be going back for sure.

It's a great place to have a brunch time the Sundays. Located in front of the skytower at the heart of Auckland. They have refill of coffee while you are eating their great plates. Exceptionally attention!

We really like the Fed and find their service and food very good. I’m a big fan of the toasted Reuben and the misses likes the chicken salad sandwich. We were shocked to find that they charge $8 for an A&W root beer. The same type you can buy in a dairy for $2. Seems they stopped carting the usual brand and now carry A&W. We complained and they took it off, but we never would have ordered it if we knew they had swapped out Dr Browns root beer for A&W.

I had the rotisserie chicken w gravy and the iceberg salad w candied walnuts and blue cheese dressing. I had two fantastic cocktails which were awesome. We took home lemon meringue pie and there amazing NYC baked cheesecake. The food was absolutely on point and the service was good.

The food is always great. The service is hit and miss due to how busy it can get but that is understandable.

I considered it quite expensive for the meals. Anyway was tasty.

PUMPKIN PIE IS BACK!!!!!!! (as at 1 December, 2019) Delicious food always, though I am forever sad they've taken pumpkin pie off the menu. Service is fast and efficient, even when they are flat out (which is often). Fyi - If you park in Sky City, you can get The Fed to validate your parking and save significantly.

The poutine was okay and mazo ball soup was average...but the NYC cheesecake was PHENOMENAL. 100% best cheesecake I've had so far. Would definetly recommend coming here just for the cheesecake.

Crispy skin chicken sandwich always delivers

A few weeks ago, I tried making my own matzo ball soup, because I was craving it. It didn't turn out like I had pictured it, and I didn't know where to find matzo meal. I didn't think there would be a genuine American/jewish deli and diner place in auckland city, but I was proved wrong last night... I perused their menu, and saw how inexpensive and affordable it was. First tick. And then to my surprise - I find matzo ball soup on the menu for $10 S/$18 L per bowl!! Second tick! I thanked the universe for the synchronicity and sat down. The waiters/esses were lovely and welcoming, and the food was impeccable. I brought the NY strip steak with a green salad and chicken skin crackling. The steak cooked medium rare, had a nice robust crust, nicely rendered fat cap and a light pink centre, rare right in the middle....Gorgeous ☺️ A very fatty dish, as they add butter on too of the steak too. I probably should have ordered MCclures pickles on the side to help cleanse my palette lel 🤣 Now...To the star of the show...the matzo ball soup!, which was absolutely astounding 🥰 The rich roasted taste of the chicken broth was so soothing, you could feel it cascade down your throat like a lozenge... Sprinkles of parsley throughout counteracting any richness, and the bagel matzo balls, so light and fluffy, aren't bogged down with that flour like density...the thin slices of carrot coins add a sweetness to the salty, rich medicinal broth...this is literally the definition of chicken soup for the soul. 💜 I think this is my fave restaurant now! 🤗

An absolute institution of place. We love it so much. The food is totally unique in the city, is super delicious, and the staff are the best. Spent so many awesome late nights, lunches, and dinners here. The Fed is the best there is!

I' ve spent quite a bit of time in New York and went to several Deli's while I was there. The Federal Delicatessen is pretty close to them in selection and quality. Great location and the staff really take care of you. I definitely recommend checking this place out for brunch, lunch or dinner.

The food is delicious and the service is great. Cool restaurant that makes you feel like you are in New York. My only complaints are that I feel the appetisers are slightly overpriced for the amount you get but they are delicious none the less and that they need more seating for groups of 5 or more

Genuinely liked this place. The NY vibe is very well done (I would know) and felt authentic, down to the plastic red cups and endless refills of iced water. We had about four different servers and at one point I think we were forgotten for ~15 minutes, but the food & drinks were good. We sampled a lot of items from the menu; I can wholeheartedly recommend the Reuben, brisket, schticks, poutine, 3-way dessert (cheesecake and the banana-toffee & choc-cherry pies) and sodas. Definitely go, at least for the vibe!

Arrived to a full house however, it was recommended by the staff that we list our name and number so they can call us when a table becomes available. They did ring but my wife didn't have her phone on ring. Long story short, we arrived to a full line but they had a table ready for us. A great start to our day. The service was great, staff are friendly with great smiles, our waitress was very professional but full of smiles who made us feel wanted. Big ups to her. The food was not great, it was superb and the endless coffee just topped it off. Our little moko tipped our waitress $20 and rightfully so. Awesome FD, superb food, awesome service. This place is very popular, and can often be hard to get a table. The food is reminiscent of what you could expect to find in an NYC deli. The place is small, so not ideal for large groups. My favourites are the Toasted Rueben, NY style cheesecake, and the Chicken Salad Sandwich. The poutine was average for me.

The aesthetic its only a suggestion that the place is an american deli, but it is NOT. The portions are small, filling on bagels insufficient, the items on the menu misleading, and the service left a lot to be desired, they never bring you the food together if you're with company, forget what you ordered, dont refill bottomless coffee; etc.

I always love the Fed! About the closest you will get to a New York deli in New Zealand, and the food is so great. Vibes are warm and welcoming too! My favourite meal would be started with either the Shticks or the Matzah ball soup, then the Best Ugly bagel, finished with a slice of their perfect lemon meringue pie 😍 perfectly acidic and zingy with the soft marshmallow-y toasted meringue, I would buy a whole pie of the stuff if I could. The place just makes you smile and dance a little inside 😁

Must breakfast or brunch place. It takes you to another era of nice American dinner. I am personally not a fan of dinners, but this is one place that completely bought me. I love, love, love this place! From the American-styled diner decor, down to the adorable vintage server uniforms; everything is amazing. The food is superb, there hasn't been a thing on the menu that I've tried that I haven't liked. If you've never tried poutine before... You should. Period. You definitely won't regret it!

Hmm. I wanted to love this place. Had a delicious lunch at their sister restaurant next door (Depot), so came here with high expectations. The ambience is fun, and the menu looks great. But then... Our server greeted us by telling us she was tired and it had been a longer day. Then when we asked her questions about the food, she said she had not tried anything on the menu. Then she said she was new. She couldn’t make any recommendations. She seemed to to forget our drink order, and someone else eventually brought our drinks over. The food ended up being just average. We shared five or six things. None of it was awful or delicious. Just go hum all around with extremely bad service. Based on our experience, I can’t recommend this place. But Depot next door is fab!

A hidden gem in town. Prices reasonable. I had the 1/4chicken . Lovely and tasty. No salad with it. Sides extra. Wine came in a drinking glass (similar to one below) not impressed by that.

Given there are 1,300+ reviews for the Fed as at the time of writing, my piffling little review is hardly going to make a difference, but in the interests of flexing my democratic muscles (in the month of NZ's general election after all), I will chip in my tuppence for good measure. Top notch food, good portions, great quality ingredients. Staff are a well oiled machine. My only quibble, which is the only thing that makes me hesitate about providing a coveted 5/5 review from yours truly is that you can't book as far as I know (I guess they have their reasons but they don't suit me) and the feel of the place lacks some certain local infusion (really feels like being in a NY deli which I guess is a selling point for most, but I would like a slight hybridisation personally).

Awesome team, the way they handle pressure during New Year’s Eve dinner was like walk in the park. Highly recommend to dine-in 👌✌️ And keep up the rockstar work team!!

The Federal Deli is definitely worth a visit. Great Jewish-style deli dishes, authentic decor, complete with matching staff uniforms. The crew are all friendly, and seating-wise you can choose from booths, tables or at the counter to watch the kitchen in action. Totally recommend the Reuben toasted pastrami sandwich. And the Cherry float!

We enjoyed quick service, quality recommendations on food, and had a fantastic experience without breaking the bank. The pastrami Poutine was incredible, as was the Best Ugly Bagel. Very yummy American themed diner with great New York style options. Sandwiches are reasonably priced but I thought the drinks were a tab expensive. We got a Reuben and the fish sandwich, both were yummy!! The poutine was good, not great. The service was stellar.

The food is a little different to standard restaurant fare (based on a New York deli). Staff are always friendly and efficient. You can't book ahead, but we've never waited longer than 20 mins for a table.

Great Brunch with my kids! I have been here quite a few times. The food is always good, very close to what you'd get in an American Deli. We had the hash mash, blueberry griddle cakes and the smoked fish hash. We also had a hot cocoa which was magnificent. The only smallish things that weren't ideal were the bathrooms didn't smell too flash, were mostly pretty clean but could have been better, the cocoa was serviced in a container which was then required to be poured into a cup, but the original container doesn't have a lip so when you finished pouring, cocoa went down the side and onto the table. I highly recommend this place.

A perfect place for breakfast/brunch in particular, we got the bagel and the Salmon Latkes, and service was very attentive. The prices are very reasonable considering the location, and that shows in how consistently busy the Deli is. Also really appreciate the bottomless filter coffee and tea. I had about 5 cups of bottomless filter coffee for only $4.50. What more could one ask for?

I could really write an essay about how much I love federal delicatessen. From the moment this place opened, I must have been here at least 50 times. It all starts with the atmosphere when you walk in the door. You're greeted by one of the pleasant waitresses making, you feel like you've stepped into a time machine taking you back to the 50s. That's followed by sliding into a booth, being offered a cup of delicious hot filter coffee and being passed a large, very traditional menu with some modern twists. Over my 50 or so visits, I've worked my way through most of the menu and found nearly everything to be delicious. A personal favourite is the chicken salad sandwich, which comes with crunchy iceberg lettuce, crispy bits of chicken and dipping gravy. Yes, dipping gravy. As I said, I really could write an essay, but nothing I say could ever really do this place justice - you just have to try it for yourself. It's that good.

Took my teenage girls for a different AK dining experience. They both loved the food, NY deli concept and staff were helpful and friendly. We went early evening as had heard it is popular and got last booth, be prepared for a wait when it's busy, good sign though.

Great food, friendly service, cool décor. You simply can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. The pastrami sandwich was one of the best I've ever had.

We all agreed that we love their CHEESECAKE! It is one of the best NY cheesecakes that I’ve tried in my whole life. I would definitely go back for it and for the unlimited coffee. We also got their famous banoffee pie with popcorn and it’s quite good as well (but not my cup of tea). It would have been 5/5 stars if they do serve the wine infront of you. The wine that my friends ordered were already in the glass when served on the table and they find the taste quite bland.

Always a great place to eat, never any issues (except they forgot a drink once when they were super busy so understandable!). Great atmosphere everytime. Last time I went they gave me my drink for free because they were missing one ingredient that they would normally put in it (even after saying that I didn't mind not having that in it). Visited for lunch, ordered the chicken sandwich, one of their bottomless coffees, and a mini peanut butter shake. Found a bone in the sandwich but otherwise good, coffee nice. Service generally pretty good and friendly but our waitress forgot to get a couple of extras we asked for.

We were walking around the city centre and we found Federal Delicatessen through the app. We decided to go there as the dishes looked good and it seemed a bit out of the ordinary. We ordered the pastrami sandwich (cant remember the name) and the battered kahawai sandwich with some Canadian poutine with additional pastrami. For dessert we ordered the three-way, as you can taste three different cakes for NZ20. We were quite happy to pay the NZ74 which was the total. Everything was delicious, it was served reasonably fast despite being quite busy. The atmosphere was great, the staff was also very friendly and gave us very good recommendations. The cheesecake there is a MUST!

My first time here. The servers were so quick to seat us and ask for our order, and were very friendly throughout. Good service makes all the difference! The cocktails and food came reasonably quickly. The Cucumber Cooler was perfect on hot muggy Sunday evening.

Excellent meal. We had a sit down breakfast early Monday morning. It was not crowded. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. A very interesting (and tasty) spin on hot chocolate. We enjoyed breakfast so much, we went back for take away bagels the next morning.

I always make sure I come here when I travel to Auckland for work. Feels like gourmet diner food, and the little details, additions and flourishes add so much flavour and interest. Such an easy option for a single diner, as you can sit at the bar or counter facing their open kitchen. I try to leave without eating their delicious cheesecake or pies, but fail most of the time and end up leaving with a slice in a takeaway box...

Excellent diner style food tucked away in plain sight. Bottomless Havana coffee, delicious mashes, brisket. Staff are great. Good hair of the dog options too. Some unusual decor and photos, not your usual Americana. Portion sizes are substantial. Ruebens are good too.

The Montreal Poutine w pastrami is too good! Oh that cheese curd and gravy over hot crispy salted fries....yum! Atmosphere is awesome. I loved the music play list. This is a great place to hang out and the service is good. Desserts were unfortunately too rich and sweet for my liking, and I like sweet. Little disappointed as that was the reason why I went to begin with. But each to their own. I am certainly still keen to come back and try the rest of the menu!!

Awesome staff and nice environment. Small food portions though taste is good . We ordered schnitzel and was surprisingly small with no sides. Also a bit smelly since the kitchen is too close to the dinning area. Your clothes smell like food when leaving, though I was the only one who had this feeling 😅

Auckland has so many great breakfast places to check out, it's really hard to choose sometimes. Federal Delicatessen is located on Federal Street, across the Sky Tower. We decided to share our meal because we wanted to save room to eat more later (were such fatties).The Grub. Cinnamon Girl $4.50. This was the perfect breakfast pastry freshly made bun with raisins and cinnamon. Mish-Mash $23. This dish was loaded with pastrami hash, potatoes, peas and topped with a fried egg. Highly recommend this dish. The pastrami was cooked perfectly and not too salty.

Was so happy with this find in Downtown Auckland! It is like a taste of New York deli with Kiwi hospitality! I did a to-go order of the brisket poutine and I could not have been happier. Though, warning, the full order can feed two people or one person twice! I really enjoyed it as the gravy had excellent flavor and texture, the fries were perfectly crispy, and the cheese curds exactly as they should be. The show-stealer was the brisket! And my only complaint was there wasn’t nearly enough of it because it was just spectacular…and hailing from Texas, that is saying something! The staff were so nice and I wish I would have had time to stay and actually eat at the Deli counter! I would definitely comeback the next time I am in NZ!

Fennel & apple salad; Seafood Chowder

Always great food. Normally we have some of the sammiches which are great. The Reuben and chicken salad especially. Today we had skirt steak, poutine, and pastrami. Absolutely delicious. Pies are also a winner. Service was lovely, and our meals were up fairly quickly especially given it was Saturday night and place was packed

Popped in for dinner. We were really keen to try the latkes. Unfortunately they had sold out (?) - not sure how that happens but anyhow! We selected the poutine and the Kahawai hoagie to split between us. The kahawai was beautifully battered and cooked, exactly how fried fish should be. The hoagie was otherwise fine. Nothing remarkable at all. Would probably have preferred the kahawai as fish and chips. The poutine was... well, not really poutine! The chips were quite pleasant. Potatoes flavoured and crispy. The gravy was superb. The “cheese curds” were not cheese curds, not if you’ve ever had proper wisconsin cheese curds (which is what cheese curds should be). They were more like grainy, low flavoured Edam. Actively unpleasant to eat tbh. We finished with the banoffee pie (not an American flavour btw let alone a New York deli dish). The base was a little thick and inexplicably gingery and it had what seemed to be an entire bottle of whipped cream on top which was excessive and off putting. The banoffee itself was delicious however. The tiny piece of pie cost $13.50 and was perhaps a tenth of the total pie. There is no way that a whole banoffee pie is worth $135!!! So, overall the food here was pleasant. Had the potential to be really nice but just missed the mark. I would possibly have given four stars if the prices were less obscene but in value for money this place would realistically be a 1-2 stars so... though perhaps that’s just what you get dining out in this area of town.

Here with my partner 11/09/2019 & we got the Spit Roast Chicken, Large Poutine & Cheesy Cauliflower. Food was actually superb, some of the best Cauliflower we've tasted. However, upon leaving we stood under the heat lamp to decide what to do next & was approached by a member of staff who asked us 'Have you paid', we answered 'yes' & then noticed them asking someone else 'have they actually paid?'. I understand the staff asking quickly to ensure we don't do a runner if we indeed did not pay but better communication and awareness would mean they didn't need to ask that & make it so obvious. No one is perfect but it made me feel somewhat like a thief or looking dodgy. Aside from that staff was friendly, helpful, understanding & food was really good, cool diner vibe and good music (Tears for Fears). We paid and tipped 10%.

Everyone is talking about this place, but I don't see what is the big deal. It's nice, a bit old world looking. The food is basic and good, but very greasy to my taste. If you like fat food, buttery oily toast, then it's the place for you. The cakes are really nice, just don't take the pumpkin one, it's a bit bitter...

Service was excellent and food was yummy. The only issue is there aren't many options for vegetarians (only one sandwich and a couple of salads).

Always amazing food when we come here. We shared the NY Strip steak, the lamb meat balls, and some potato & gravy. All were absolutely delicious but the portion sizes for both meat dishes has gone down dramatically. No longer quite worth the $28 price tag! The service is always great here too. Top points on that front. All in all, still one of my favourites but the portion decrease has left me wondering about the value for money.

Yum!! Loved the service and the detail of the New York deli theme. Bottomless Havana coffee and good company is a nice way to start a Sunday. I would make the trip into the city to eat here again.

We had a lovely night at the Federal! I go at least once every time I visit Auckland.

Busy atmosphere but the service was great and the pancakes with Havana coffee was delicious! The booths and seating are great for 2-4 people and I would recommend the chicken salad sandwich. Located near the Sky tower so it was a good spot to eat and then go see the Sky tower all in an afternoon.

I never thought my mug would manage a Robert De Niro impersonation but it happened over the coffee here, which would drive espresso loving kiwis further and more staunchly towards their cuppa of choice. I was planning to get to Albert's straight away after breakfast. Okay food, worst coffee in New Zealand. Latkes were overly salty. House smoked lox was rather good, tender to the bite and delicious. Good lemony cheesecake. Griddle cakes / pancakes had an unenjoyable texture and were like biscuits with sauce on them. It would've been utterly delightful if they'd had a texture consistency somewhere between Danish aebleskiver pancakes and American buttermilk pancakes. This place was a good try but isn't so great as a breakfast option.

Great atmosphere, Kind server, and good food. Just disappointed when I ordered the wine, one of the servers gave me the water glass and jar of wine. It was shocking. I never got a water glass for wine at any kind of restraunt or bar. Most of all, fine except that.

I cant really speak to its authenticity, but coming here certainly gives you a US diner experience. The menu certainly reflects that, the food generally comes out fast in my experience, and the service is friendly with a touch of "snappy" to encourage you to enjoy your meal but please be aware there are others waiting. Good place to go for a bite before or after a movie given fairly close to Queen St cinemas

Lovely selection of meals. I had the lamb and veal meatballs. Very nice. Sat at the bar. Barman who served me made some very nice drinks for me that night. Negative: I had already called it a night and was drinking only water and declined another drink when asked. It was then that I could clearly overhear another staffer say "no more drinks" to my barman which was directed at me. Rude. Get your facts straight before making such a comment within earshot of your customer. = No tip.

Excellent lunch place! Has inside and outside sitting. The atmosphere is New York old fashion style, i would say:) I had toasted reuben with apple cider and being super hungry i could barely finish my meal. Which means that the portion is quite large. Apple cider was wonderful and perfect for an early day buzzz... 😜

Best deli in town, was told this place would be good and they were right, whatever you'd want will be there, they also have fergburger and ferg's bar which I actually added to Google maps. If you want breakfast lunch or dinner ferg's have you covered, so try it.

A slice of Americana right here in Auckland! The food is good, the menu options are reminiscent of a diner or deli in the US Northeast but with some modern & creative twists, plus the service is attentive as well. Located just across the street from SkyCity, this place is great for a weekend breakfast or weekday lunch.

These folks have got New York Deli style down. Everything from the menu to the people working there is perfect. I had the seafood chowder which was very filling and totally hit the spot on a chilly day. Their coffee and pie combo is a must have!

Wonderfully cosy inside with the open kitchen. Breakfast/ brunch menu closes at 3:30pm where it is replaced by the dinner choices. We had the Poutine with pastrami, filling and warming. Great friendly and attentive service. Will be back for dinner.

This place has some of the coolest vibes in Auckland. Food is great, really American style diner experience which is hard to find in Auckland. Great service and entertaining decor. Definitely recommend the Chicken Sandwich toasted with cheese.

Auckland's New York style Jewish deli isn't 100% kosher but this isn't the Upper West Side neither. They probably have the best Ruben Sandwich for sale in New Zealand. The pie, all the pie, is excellent.

I live this place so much. Have been going to Federal for the last few years and the food service and ambiance never fail to impress. All the food is brilliant but the fish is the standout for me as well as the banoffee and PB &J pies...not to mention the strong filter coffee. I would suggest that you go here if you enjoy good food with a relaxed atmosphere and great service!

What can I say? Never been disappointed! Great options, amazing food, good service, an upbeat environment, great background music. What not to like about it? The menu is based on food sharing and it is great, gives you the option to try a bit of everything!

Average delicatessen on Federal Street in the Auckland CBD. Some items are quite tasty but for a delicatessen the menu is very limited. For example you can get eggs but you can only have them fried or poached. Apparently they do not know how to make scrambled eggs. You can order pancakes but only one choice. The deli is quite popular but I would recommend other establishments unless you want exactly what they have on menu. Good staff but don't ask them for any menu changes.

We visit the Fed for a bit of a treat from time to time and never leave disappointed, but always lighter in the wallet. Last visit earlier this week was for lunch where we had a Toasted Reuben each and shared Poutine Fries. Absolutely delicious and very satisfying! Highly recommended for lunch provided you don’t have to do too much in the afternoon - apart from have a nap! The dessert pies are delicious too (enjoyed on different occasions) along with bottomless drip coffee. On previous visits the wait staff were all in 1950 style diner uniforms which I enjoyed as it added to the experience, but this week the uniforms seemed to be forgone and the service a little less “snappy” than previous visits. Hopefully this is not a beginning of a new more casual approach - I rather enjoyed the New York Diner “theatre”

While the food is good, the service is poor, especially the male at the front. He is condescending, rude definitely not a people person.

Consistent with great food and plenty of choices. Fast service, family friendly (even our 2 year old enjoys the food) in a nostalgic environment. The schticks, house pastrami, chicken sandwich and NY cheesecake are some of our family favourites.

Food options are a bit limited. Staff service better than most. Booth seats definitely the best options as the other tables are cramped. Very good coffee. Nice ambience if they're not rushed.

Wow, this place is amazing came for brunch on a busy Sunday the staff are super friendly and helpful , the coffee is great ! Had the Reuben sandwich and a cinnamon roll ended up getting another sandwich to take home , we will be back ! So much to try and it’s pretty close to being exactly like the deli’s in New York !

Outstanding level of service. Awesome and highly trained staff. It will never go wrong. Never a bad decision. Anything you order will be done with high standards and care. The best thing is that quality is consistent, no matter time of the day, day of the week, if it has just opened or if it is closing. They are always great. Try the three way combo for dessert. Banoffi pie (with caramelised popcorn!) is the best around.

Lovely spot. On a cold, rainy night last October I had the bartender make me a hot toddy (his first) and I had a tasty meal to pair with it. Really nice place that feels like an American dinner and with a friendly staff.

Would kill for the pastrami! Friendly staff. Fast service. Bottomless coffee. Reservations aren’t required or needed. Cocktails are good. Anything’s good. Servers are attentive and clear away any empties quite quickly. Was told that we could grab some of the merch from the bagel place in Welly since I was only visiting Auckland. Unfortunately that wasn’t true. Will pick up a mug or two next time I’m in Auckland. I’ll be back!

The Fed is an Auckland must for any visitors or locals alike. With an attempt on the New York delicatessen it goes a step better and puts an excellent twist on it along with some dishes they can call their own. You will not be disappointed with any choice on the menu, and Al Brown's influence is evident. They're open late on the weekends and they serve in a timely and efficient manner. Friendly staff are always on hand, and the overall experience will have you back sooner than you think, or have you disappointed that you haven't gone back!

We were here for breakfast and ordered the Best Ugly Bagel (with salmon), Treyf (pickled pork with poached eggs) and bottomless coffee. Everything was tasty! Service wise, I probably consider it as lukewarm? Not the kind of warm hospitality we have experienced elsewhere in New Zealand but they are not unfriendly. Kind of like "I'm here to get you you orders and food, not here to be your friend." Which is fair. Would return for the food, but I guess I still prefer me coffee from an expression machine, if possible.

Order the poutine, but don't bother asking for meat on top because they give you the tiniest portion of pastrami for an extra $4. Literally about 4 or 5 pathetic strands of meat. Better to order a separate portion. Food is pretty great quality here, just expensive for what you get. But that's to be expected from Federal Street.

A bustling café / restaurant that aspires to be a Jewish deli and doesn't quite make it; Matzo ball soup, for example, is made with Matzo not with Bagels. But many of their dishes are very tasty, the staff are super friendly, they have good music (mostly soul/R&B based) and a lively diner atmosphere. We do go there regularly. Just by the sky tower, and not too pricey.

Fast paced service. Delicious food. The poutine is a must. The atmosphere lives up to its Jewish NY Deli claims and is a real treat to enjoy. Regret that we didn't get any pie as it looked delicious. I got the hot dog which was really bite sized so thankfully I got the poutine as well.

Great place for breakfast. Traditional deli meals with a twist. Pork in the Treyf was excellent and so was the combination of flavours in the Mish-Mash. Will definitely stop by again.

Awesome service and delicious food. I do wish there were more vegan options but luckily there was a staff member there who was vegan and knew how to best advise us. Will definitely be back.

Loved the unique decor of this jewish styled Deli. The food was yum. I especially loved the salmon, cream cheese and caper bagel. My only hate was the coffee. Filter coffee just isn't good in my opinion. The Best Ugly bagels are really really good. This is not a place that I will probably revisit, because I like good coffee.

Always love coming here. The food is amazing and the service is always great. I went in to grab takeaway pies lastnight and while I waited (5mins) the waiter came around to offer some water, which in my opinion shows great customer service. No matter how long as customer is there for they are still treated well. The pie combo which I've had previously (dine in option only) is a must. Get the NY cheesecake 😀. This place is always packed, testament to the good food and service so be prepared to wait at times. Though it will be worth it 👍

A great place to have brunch in Auckland. We had the griddle cakes and the Treyf. The treyf was a great take on a “Benedict” style dish with the pickled pork adding a spice/acidity to an otherwise rich dish. The griddle cakes were deliciously fluffy with the ice cream and crumb providing a great balance. Would definitely go again!

Great atmosphere but average food. Had the Reuben was really lacking flavour had heard how great it was so had high expectations. But the Montreal Poutine fries were good though.

Delicious food, fantastic service but microscopic drinks. I've yet to find anything on the menu that wasn't tasty. Finished the night with 3 slices of cheesecake/pie. Banoffee pie is amazing. -one star for the expensive and truly tiny drinks (beer) . I'm practically a teetotaller and even I was offended at how small the drinks were. Serving staff looked embarrassed when the table asked if a mistake had been made. Expensive or small, pick one not both.

A nice American style deli, owned by Al Brown. He even steal the concept of the uniform. The food are uniquely deli style and quite yummy, but the price are premium. Definitely not like the original American deli. On some months, will open very late into the night - over midnight.

Came back after two and a half years. Even better than we remembered. Food is so good, that even when you’re full, you feel the need to finish everything. Service is fantastic. Crazy busy and yet everyone seems to have this amazing capacity to retain a legato tempo, with a wonderfully friendly and accommodating attitude. Just love this place

What I love about all of Al's restaurants is the amazing wait service. You are never left waiting for a drink, you don't get that "you're lucky to be being served by me" attitude and you don't even notice your glass being filled. Then off course the food. This is casual dining but everything has such attention to detail. The 'Morning Glory' breakfast salad is amazing!! And this place kicked off the poutine craze in Auckland - and does it the best. When I came for breakfast I asked if they could do a Mimosa even though it's not on the menu and the waiter didn't even falter for a second - and it was delicious. Excellent.

Truly excellent. Old style New York Jewish deli. The Fed does as excellent stomach filling Smoked Hash (mullet), ideal for brunch. Can also recommend the Treyf (טרײף) (Fed's pickled pork, poached eggs with horseradish on rye).

Nice restaurant with a cool diner vibe. It can get quick busy but staff do their best to get you a table quickly. Not many plant-based options, but food is nice.

Love coming here for the American fix - roast chicken, corn beef etc. Good food and consistent. Casual style dinner and doesn't take booking. Usually takes the overflow from restaurants next door. It is unique in its own right but not everybody's favourite as it lacks individuality.

This is the second time I've been here for breakfast, the other time was in November. Both times were fabulous! Delicious food, good coffee, nice atmosphere and great service. Highly recommend a place with a bit of difference.

I love this place. Slightly overpriced but totally worth it. The Reuben sandwich is a favorite. The chocolate cherry pie goes surprisingly well with all that filter coffee. Avoid the 'Poutine' - it's not authentic at all.

Nice restaurant, the mussels chowder is my personal favourite. American Jewish flavoured restaurant. Pity they can't bring you the oysters from next door 🤣 even though they owned by the same people.

I am a 25yr old from Wellington, and my wife and I loved this place. Im not much of a foody, but do love good food and this place delivered in abundance. We had the hotdog, fennel salad, and fish sandwich (I had lettuce cups instead of bread). All were devine!! And we wanted to keep ordering. Unless you are having a really bad day, this place will leave you feeling happy and content. Service and food 5 star! Good value too!! 💯 Nick

Enjoyed a nice casual lunch at this Al Brown eatery the other day. The place has a real nice atmosphere to it, and does a good job of trying to replicate that American deli feel. We enjoyed some tasty reubens which were really nice along with a side of pickled pork, cause more meat was obviously needed..... The reuben was $22 which is a fair amount for a sandwich however I think it just hit the taste/value ratio. As with most Al Brown enterprises you can also purchase a number of food items to take home with you, as well as his recipe books.

Always great service and great food. Awesome themed decor, cool vibe, everything is consistently good here. You can count on enjoying this place every time. Parking can be expensive if parking at Skycity, try going to the civic to save some cash.

Our first visit to this 'fast, friendly and fun' eatery. A pre Pop up Globe dinner, the waiter even asked us if we were under any time pressure because we were heading on to a show, which was a nice touch. Sharing plates are the order of the day, so probably not for you if you like to protect your own choices, as Mrs Payne found out when she turned to the NY strip too late! Great choices (if a little limited), good value, and the house wine was totally drinkable.

Not sure what the fuss is about. Visited for breakfast, pancakes were okay but not amazing. Partner had an egg with spinach, mushrooms and haloumi that was also okay but not worth $20. If you want a flat white or other non-filter coffee you will need to order that next door.

Always first class service and fast too, still the best Turkey on Rye I've had!! Love Fed Deli and Depot - Al Brown thank you so much!

Great vibe to this place. We were going to a show and stopped here for a quick bite, waiting staff asked what time our show was and gave us a reminder which was much appreciated.Food was very tasty and arrived quickly. Great selection, Wine and beer also great. Will be back soon.

We love going to Federal Deli and great value! We often take kids here too because they actually eat what's on the menu. Perfect place for people watching too or if you're heading to a show or movie in town, pop in before and grab a quick bite to eat or go after for their ridiculously good deserts!

As a regular visitor to federals we have noticed a recent decline in both the staff ,food presentation and the availability of food on the menu . Sorry guys . Your once high standards are surely slipping

Accommodated a big group of people that didn't book in advance at a busy Sunday morning brunch. Fantastic customer service. Food was yummy, reasonably priced, funky little deli.

This is a very cosy diner. Relaxed, welcoming and real. True Al Brown style. I reckon the most pleasant part of the menu is what they offer for lunch. The Kahawai is the best dish. Although channeling New York Jewish delis this ain't kosher. More like a Cafe imagined in Te Awamutu in 1972 that has a knowledgeable and maverick cook inspired by local ingredients. Brilliant realization of nostalgia NZ. Fleur Sullivan could well approve of this home style deli.

The breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night special foods are so delicious! Dont forget the dessert! My faves are the chocolate cherry pie, NY cheesecake, spinach haloumi vege breakfast with latkes and the cauliflower meatballs. And everything else while we're at it

The chicken salad sandwich is to die for! The pastrami isn't bad either. Oh, and the fries too. Gets very busy, but worth it.

Incredible decor and feel in the restaraunt. Most average poutine I have ever eaten. Packaged gravy, wrong cheese (it was cheddar not plain curd) cheese was cut into giant chunks. Skip the poutine and try something else.

I often stop here on my way home from work for breakfast (I work nightshift), the staff are always lovely (considering the ungodly hour they have to get up to cater for us) and the food is delicious and varied. 10/10 would visit again. Hospo to hospo, you guys rock.

Probably the closest you'll get to an American Jewish deli. Matza ball soup was excellent, although far prettier than mine and the lemon cake, delicious. Take out option available, which is appreciated.

Food and service are fantastic - with a bustling, alive atmosphere. The Jewish Deli style food is mostly authentic, favourites being the poutine and dessert 'three-way' of cheese cake, pumpkin and banoffee pie.

Such an amazing experience the food was amazing, the prices were great, the restraunt has a super cool vibe and feel but most of all the service is outstanding, the way we were treated by the staff particularly that of Al Brown was absolutely phenomenal. Will definitely be returning again!

If I could marry one type of sandwich, it would be the Turkey On Rye sandwich from Federal Deli. I swear after I finish one, I always order anothe Turkey On Rye for take away because it is THAT GOOD. This is why I could never be a vegetarian💕

Everything was so good! But I just give 4 stars coz I asked staff to move my seat and she told me to wait for few minutes. Probably she forgot so I asked another staff then he forgot again. I asked three times but I couldn't move my seats. 😢

Fed Deli has amazing sandwiches and the classic Poutine. I love pastrami and I can guarantee this is the best pastrami sandwich in town. Recommend!

The quinoa, halomi, portobello mushroom, poached egg and rocket breakfast salad is AMAZING (and doesn't leave you feeling stodgy for the day ahead)! I've never had such a flavoursome and filling salad 😆

Nice selection of deli classics. Pastrami is very good! The service was good and fast, even though it was a busy lunch rush.

Can't fault the food. You can usually get a table, the staff are friendly and efficient. They do insist on American style coffee though.
