Reviews of Gold Ribbon
M.
Authentic Filipino cuisine. It reminds me of home and they cooked it the traditional way. Lechon kawali was a bit dry for me but taste wise it was good. Pakbet was the best because it really reminded me of home. Halo-Halo had a good serving and was delicious.
J.
I wish I had a lot of space in my tummy so that I could eat all of the nice food they have in store. Another unique taste of Filipino food here in Auckland.🙂
D.
I haven’t eaten here for dinner before but I I ordered a medium sized Ube cake over the phone for pick up the follow night and it was super easy. The cake was delicious and reasonably priced as well. Very accomodating staff.
I did notice while I was there, it was close to closing time so it wasn’t busy but quite a few tables still had dishes/food on them so it did make it look a little messy in the restaurant.
J.
Had beef kare kare and a slice of ube cake. The kare kare was very good, its under-salted but you're meant to have it with the shrimp paste which perfectly seasons it. But only have a little of the paste with each spoonful because its powerful stuff. The ube cake was delicious of course as many other reviews on here have said. Prices are great, big servings
Will be back for some bicol express!
P.
Best Ube Cake in Auckland. Everybody loved it. Thanks guys.
M.
Their crispy kare kare is the best. Ube cake is very nice too. Their pricing is very reasonable. They have very limited parking by the restaurant but plenty of on-street parking on Westward Ho by the roundabout, only a short stroll away.
O.
Support your local! The pancit here is legit, esp the Canton version. Have also had some great boodle fights here! Ensure you book this before hand. The service is always great here with food always fresh. Did they mention their specialities are baked goods! Get their UBE cake :)
F.
Me and my friends always go here if were missing filipino foods. The ube cake love it, halo halo, sinigang, dinuguan, palabok, kare kare, crispy mata and more to try check their menu.
B.
Came for a birthday dinner with a fairly large group. The place wasn't too busy so the service for our table was quite good. There was a large selection of different Filipino dishes. We tried a range of different ones and they were all alright. The flavour wasn't quite right compared to other Filipino places I've tried before. The binagoongan had quite a lot of sauce and didn't have a strong shrimp paste flavour which I was hoping for. the Crispy pata was a bit dry.
The ube cake however was quite nice. Nice flavour and very moist. The pandan shake was also good although very sweet. Again the leche flan didn't have the right flavour. They also had ube ice cream which was really nice.
Nice service and ok food but nicely priced. It came to around $20 per person for a really filling meal. They also have a set menu which needs to be pre-ordered and looks interesting.
A.
We came here just before lockdown and so glad we did.
It makes total sense why people make their way and travel just to eat here.
We're from South Auckland and some of our friends recommended to dine here if ever we're in the area, and so glad we did.
We got the classic Bangus Sinangag and Crispy Chicken with mushroom sauce.
I got quite nostalgic with the mushroom sauce and tasted close to Jolibee's Beef steak mushroom flavour, minus the beef.
Since this place is popular it can get crowded very easily. Parking can be a struggle, especially with the narrow driveway.
I.
Authentic Filipino food because it was a Filipino friend brought me there. 4 of us shared boneless crispy pata (deep fried boneless pork leg ), Cebu’s bam-I and 2 slices of cake. Tasty and good value for money. Will go again to try other food on the menu.
V.
The place to go for cheap eats. Huge servings that don't hurt the hip pocket.
Average tasting Filipino food that feels just like home as soon as you walk in.
TVs are always a big no no for me in any restaurant, especially when ASAP is blaring in the background and 'birit' queens are belting out tunes.
The staff are your typical, nice, non-engaging but hospitable Filipinos.
The cakes are to die for, especially the ube (purple yam). Not a fan of the ube ensaymada though (the texture was too dense, almost like eating regular bread and not the brioche ensaymada is supposed to be).
p.
Good food, prompt service. Love their taro shakes and taro cakes - very different from the usual desserts but adds a nice flavour to it. Carparks are limited but Kelston shopping mall is right across the road.
L.
Its been a year almost since I have been back from Sydney, where I have been to many Filipino Restaurants.
Being a first time customer with my parents to have our early dinner, I am utterly impressed by how the ambience of the restaurant was authentic provincial like. The food was delicious where it tells a story of humbleness and love for the food. The quantity and value for money are second to none.
Excellent service
D.
This place is pretty good, the food size for the price is not so good though, roughly
$120 for us to have lunch here which I thought was Abit pricey. The portion sizes for the price was quite small.
The food itself was amazing, really nice food and lovely staff and atmosphere.
Just a let down how pricey it was.
K.
The food is great for getting a good Filipino hit. Parking could be an issue as it's getting really popular
C.
Tasty food and friendly service. Good value for money. Probably one negative thing I would say about this place is the parking, not much place to park.
B.
Good selection of Filipina foods but the service was very slow.
A.
Great place, tasty and authentic Filipino cuisine. Will recommend and definitely visit again! Thank you team :-)
T.
So far, I personally think this is the best filipino restaurant in Auckland. I love their dinuguan, crispy pata, sisig, kare-kare and of course the desserts (ube ice cream, ube cake & halo halo). I also like their mamon and puto bumbong. However, it is sadly not available all the time. They have boodle fight here too. Parking is a bit of a hassle here as there is not much space.
E.
Their crispy pata (pork hock) is really good. It reminds me of the schweinshaxe I had in a traditional Bavarian restaurant in Germany without the mess. The sour dipping sauce does cut into the fat and brings out the taste of the meat; very similar function compare to the sauerkraut.
My personal favorite is their ube cake. It is a purple cake made with some sort of root vegetable similar to Kumara and Taro.
G.
Food is always good. It was so busy that we needed to wait for table. But they tried their best.
J.
Great food, the customer service is okay. We didn’t get greeted and when we sat down, the guy who gave us our glasses and utensils just dropped it on our table.
Didn’t feel welcoming but the food, again was great.
R.
Best ube cake and ube ice-cream. Very popular. Has a carpark. Yum authentic Filipino food. The serving sizes are generous - we couldn't eat it all, but look fwd to leftovers for lunch today.
M.
Homecooked offers authentic Filipino home cooking that is very comforting. Our favourites are dinuguan, crispy pata and ube cake.
A.
This is the place where you can get the famous Purple Taro Cake. This is our go to place to buy taro cakes. They are so delicious and soft. Love the consistency of quality.
A.
I remembered my first visit some 2 years ago was somewhat pleasant.
Yesterday's was a bit different. Somehow, the food was not just missing a tad bit of authenticity in taste. Also, I understand that in Filipino culture, "help yourself" is best practiced. However, it would greatly help if the staff are more attentive to the diner's needs and food are served more quickly.
Entrance parking on the road just before the restaurant and limited parking at the back.
A.
I bought this marvelous Mango Cake via online. It's a smooth process. Even though, I need to drive for more than 30 minutes to pickup this cake. It's worth it. I will order more cakes from this restaurant.
E.
This is one of our go to places for our fix of Filipino food. Their pastries and cakes are a must try too. Worth the drive if you’re not from West Auckland.
N.
Good & authentic food overall.
Pork & Chicken Adobo (my favourite Filipino dish) was great, though Pork was a little tough.
Lechon Kawali was good. Though the little coleslaw salad was very sad...
Pancit Behon & Chicken sisig were tasty.
The Pork Sinigang soup was a big let down.. lacked flavour and did not have any of the signature tangy, tamarind taste...
I was hoping to have some Filipino Red Horse Beer... but no alcohol available at all, therefore it didn’t feel like the full Filipino experience.
The music was just whatever was on the radio, so again, it didn’t feel very “Filipino”.
I would come back for the adobo, but so far Boracay Garden in viaduct is the best Filipino dining experience we’ve had.
Still a 4 out of 5 for good value and good adobo sauce! I love adobo!
J.
Nice place to have some pinoy food.
D.
After being recommended by a friend we went for dinner last night. Food & dessert was great and reasonably priced. My partner and her sister loved the leche flan and the taste took them back to the Philippines when they were younger! Will be back!
S.
This Place Rocks.
Me and my Kids Absolutely Love their Purple Cake.
Especially my Eldest Daughter, who Loves Purple.
I first knew of this Amazing Cake, and Place from my Beautiful Aunty.
I tasted it,and fell in Love with it,straight away.
It is far from where we stay, and so out of our way,but we still make our way out there,to have a piece,or a whole cake.
My Eldest has been having a Purple Cake every year for her Birthday, for years now.
We Love Gold Ribbon.
G.
Ploy massage in Kelston opp the mall. All the staff very friendly and know their job especially Oratai and Ploy who will massage you accordingly. GJ

LOVE THIS PLACE
GREAT FOOD GREAT PRICES GREAT STAFF!!! Great serving sizes. Tastes really amazing. Love it. Thank you for a great Filipino Dining experience.
A.
Delicious! My favourite Filipino restaurant. I always try to make sure I have their heavenly ube cake! Yes they have parking. But there is also parking off street. ❤️❤️🎂🎂
C.
One of the better Filipino restaurants in Auckland. The taste and serving size is when the money you pay, which isn't even overly expensive. There only down side is there limited on site parking. The Boodle Fight is a must for groups, but be sure to request it 24 hours in advance.
b.
Home cooked food! Homesick no more. :)
R.
Best ube cake and ube ice-cream. Very popular. Has a carpark. Yum authentic Filipino food. The serving sizes are generous - we couldn't eat it all, but look fwd to leftovers for lunch today.
C.
PLEASE come in and give it go! The food and dessert is fabulous. Bring your family along for a great afternoon.
K.
Love Ube cake 🥳🥳🥳🥳

LOVE THIS PLACE
GREAT FOOD GREAT PRICES GREAT STAFF!!! Great serving sizes. Tastes really amazing. Love it. Thank you for a great Filipino Dining experience.
F.
Value for money. It's been my first time to dine as by coincidence the place is always packed whenever we have a chance to go there. Mind you it was quarter before 20:00 when we went.
Just had bulalo, pansit palabok and ube cake. Taste of food is what you'd expect; average to above average but amount of serving is huge. Went to pak n save in mt Albert to do grocery soon after. When we reached home here in Hobsonville; much to our surprise the noodle/palabok were still warm.
Will definitely go back.
R.
Good place to try some authentic Filipino foods. Parking is a little bit difficult so you need to either drive around the shop or have a try at pak n save near it
G.
foodies. love the the halo-halo,cake and pancit🤤
G.
Food is really good and abundant. The customer service is poor, the guy looks really grampy most of the times.
J.
We had the boodle fight menu, too much food but everything is masarap, we had to take home some of left overs. It was value for money. Special mention for the ube ice cream which was delish 😊
s.
good and authentic filipino food. Parking is one-way through (parking entrance is from the rear not the one in front of the resto). Reservations recommended because of limited seating.
M.
We visited and dined at this cute little restaurant for the first time 3 years ago for my daughter's 21st Birthday celebration and it was an amazing experience. This included the food, the hosts, the company and the karaoke, lol.💝👌🏼😀
S.
Great food! Nice flavours and good portion too. Unfortunately the parking situation is herrendous and the layout of the restaurant is a bit cramped and cluttered. Great place to come for groups
A.
Place is a little cramped, but that's the only downside. If you like Filipino food or trying it for the first time like me, there's no better place to go in Auckland.
T.
Invited by a colleague to try the Boodle fight. Was very entertaining watching everyone try to eat the food with the hands. If you really don't want to eat with ur hands they will supply a fork.
For the Boodle fight you pre-order one of 3 set menus. We arrived there and the table was lined with banana leaves. They then put a line of rice down the middle of the table which they then add the rest of the dishes. Food was nice and would recommend to try's he Boodle fight at least once. Soo much food we didn't finish. Lots of fun.
C.
PLEASE come in and give it go! The food and dessert is fabulous. Bring your family along for a great afternoon.
s.
Ube cake and ube shake...a must try
R.
Ube cake to die for. Best Pinoy restaurant so far. Been here thrice this week and it is worth it. 😊
C.
Quality and taste is not on par compared to when it first started. Crispy pata ain't that crispy anymore (i think they need to let the meat sit for longer so it's crispy)
C.
Always a nice meal here. Good place to get ube cake and other Pinoy treats too
R.
Good food and desserts... Especially the ube cake
J.
Bestseller Ube Cake. Theyre about to close yet they welcome me to make a purchase of their best seller cakes and ube ensaymada. Very friendly. Thank you and Happy New Year!
