C.If I was to describe this restaurant in one word I would just say “vibes”. Honestly such a cool atmosphere, servers are all super friendly. And an open view of the kitchen.
The prawn toast and donut desert are must tries. Some of the fried food admittedly was a bit salty (KFC cauliflower in particular). But other dishes such as the chicken skewers and chicken wrap were solidly good as well. The price was a little on the high end I thought for some of the food - but given how popular it is and the location I guess you’re paying a premium.
All in all I’d still give it five stars.
E.The best dish was the doughnut desert. I find the fusion did not gel well. The sauces can be a little overbearing. Given the Google rating they are getting, I had expected much better meal that I would go back and recommend to friends. Unfortunately, meat was overcooked, sauces are way too spicy (despite I can tolerate chilli quite well), dumplings is a little dry and hard - the sauce and food could have been better for the price we are paying. We ordered quite a few dishes and unfortunately several had about the same sauce (some miso base). I wouldn't be dreaming about going to this place.

Had a delicious and satisfying dinner with my family at Hello Beasty. I tasted the savoy and water chestnut tofu dumplings and loved its spice level and cheesiness. The dumplings were really soft and nice too.
Next, I had the Sichuan noodles (vegetarian option) and was in love with the spiciness of the sauce and the chewiness of the noodles (reminded me of the taste of udon). However, the real highlight were the twisted doughnuts with chocolate sauce and ice cream. They were super crunchy and had just the right amount of sweetness.

Service and front of house are absolutely wonderful: knowledgeable, attentive & the perfect combination of friendly and professional. The design from the interior to graphics is fresh and pervasive yet restrained. Superb soundtrack.
Beautiful plating of a fantastic menu that is constantly surprising as you delve deeper over multiple visits. Pan-asian that surpasses any comparison to average fusion; erudite and skillfully developed, with commitment to the craft. So much flavor and diversity, genuinely unique, creative, bold, and extremely consistent.

Sit at the kitchen counter if you can, watching the chefs do their thing is the whole point I think.
We went for classics, Duck Bao, Pork Buns, Pork Sando, Tuna Tartar and Kingfish. All fresh, all delicious.
Special note for the service, very efficient, friendly and informative. Drinks were on time and there’s a great choice too.

D.Great service and great food. I was really excited about the hibachi dishes. The pork belly on hibachi was great but I was wanting more charred and flame flavour. Otherwise, really enjoyed all the dishes !
J.I have been here multiple times over a few years when travelling to NZ on business and have never been disappointed. This time was even better, we wanted to change our early booking time and Emma was absolutely fantastic and understanding to accommodate us. In fact all of the staff were wonderful.
Food as usual spot on, delicious flavours, and good drinks menu. All dishes were great but the pork shoulder was a stand out.

From the moment we were welcomed in to when we left the vibe, service and food quality was impeccable!
Even though it was packed when we arrived and were warned there could be a bit of a wait it wasnt long before we were experiencing mouth watering fusion cuisine!!
The waitresses were so helpful and explained our dishes to us all of which were hot except the snapper which wasnt a hot dish.
Perfectly balanced and seasoned there was everything your palate needed to really take your taste buds next level!
Definitely going back and this would have to be the best asian fusion Ive tasted and want to try the whole menu!!!

N.Fabulous friendly and professional staff. The sharing plates for 4 people that we ordered, came out at different times that didn't flow well, the veges came before the starters and the Flatbread came near the end of our meal.
The dishes were quite hot/spicy, almost without exception and the flavors were very strong. A very popular place, just not my taste. The wait staff were exceptional and welcoming 🙏.

M.This was a definite wow for the food and drinks. Our latest foray is to visit asian fusion restaurants and Hello Beasty has taken the top honors by far. The 4 of us were so very impressed and I would rate this as being the best food I have ever eaten. We will definitely be going back and can highly recommend. Please make sure you book so as not to be disappointed. We visited on a Tuesday night (having booked) and it was packed but a really great vibe.

A.Would have to say this is my favourite restaurant in Auckland at the moment. Went here for a nice dinner with my partner. Food was so tasty, I’m still dreaming about it! The staff are super friendly and can answer all your questions, the service was also very quick. Would highly recommend this restaurant to all friends and family.

We got a great range of dishes to share, standout kfc cauliflower...so good. Photos are for eye taste, you have to taste to actually apperciate the great balance of flavours in hhe dishes

E.Absolutely loved all the food here! I didn't know the restaurant was a shared menu which was fine, but the waitress recommend 8-10 plates for the 4 of us. So the prices add up fast! But everything tasted delicious.
I definitely agree with getting flatbread as all the sauces for the dishes were great and the flatbread was great to use up the leftover soups/sauces♡

G.It's been open since 2018, yet I have never noticed it. How on earth?! What a spectacular restaurant serving Asian fusion ranging from Korean Fried Cauliflower, Karaage Chicken and Edimame to the likes of lamb shoulder, pork cutlets and marshmallow with tapioca. With an impressive drinks list and and even more tempting list of cocktails, this table of 9 certainly didn't leave disappointed. 5-stars and very deserving of every single one

J.Usually not a fan of fusion food, a handful would meet the mark but Hello Beasty is the rare few that impresses. So much so we ordered during level 3 lockdown. Our dinner pack included the slow cook Sichuan lamb shoulder, charred Broccolini, spring onion flat bread, and rice. The add-on tuna tartare was a winner as well, and pork buns was a popular pick for the kids. Our meal was over the top great at the comfort of our home. Everything tasted phenomenal and was priced reasonably.
S.Good selection of vegetarian/vegan options compared to some other restaurants, but the best part is that they were all tasty! Cocktails are great, atmosphere is nice and staff and super friendly.
Y.The food was a hit with everyone. Adults and child enjoyed their food. Service was fast and the warm hand towels that accompany the edamame beans is a nice touch. The katsu sando is a favourite.
A.Was really yum and a nice place to sit by the window, restaurant had a modern vibe, loved the neon cat logo.
Would 100% recommend the Pork Buns, was my favourite dish, came with a chilli vinegar sauce that was so good I kept it on the table for other food.
My second fave was the Gua Bao. Just a great balance of fat, chilli, salt and sour. I decided that night that all sandwiches should be made with milk buns because normal bread is lame.
Fried Cauliflower was my partners favourite and I enjoyed it too, but personally was glad I had kept the chilli vinegar sauce from the Pork Buns because I thought it needed a bit of sour to cut through the richness.
The "strange flavours" sauce that came with the crispy pork shoulder was so good, the salad served with this dish should be on the menu as a side it was so fresh and a great contrast to fried stuff.
I ordered the Broccolini assuming it would be Chinese stir fry style garlic ginger kekap flavours so was a little surprised to see satay sauce as was another rich oily flavour which I didn't need with the fried chicken and cauli.
The fried chicken was nice but I was hoping for classic Korean sweet soy chilli flavours but it was more like crispy coating served on a hoisin-ish sauce.
All over tho I would fully recommend trying this yum food and I would like to go back and try more of the menu. Service was really great like top notch, kept table clean cold water full and food was quick and fresh. Cocktails were strong and pretty (which is what I want when ordering cocktails).
Super glad we chose to eat here.
A.Hello Beasty is a very sophisticated Japanese fusion restaurant with a little bit of pizazz, well presented, great service and lovely food options. Drink options well thought out and an experience we overall found excellant. Another great place to try out.

The habachi was so good I could barely believe it, the BBQ chicken was sinful and a must try with their Japanese rice or flat bread as a side. The beef will make you wagyu tail in happiness!
The spring onion flat bread is a must try, and I shouldn't need to twist your arm to get you to order the twisted donuts for dessert.
We didn't try the okonomiyaki but saw it being made in the kitchen and it looked awesome as well.
T.Hello Beasty was a much anticipated restaurant in my list to dine at and with Amex Restaurant month coming around, the opportunity presented. I visited on a Saturday afternoon which wasn’t too busy and I sat up at the bar to watch and engage the chefs as they were busy creating culinary delights.
Upon entering the restaurant, the interior was funky with neon pink kitschy cartoony feature walls imbuing a relaxed but upmarket all inclusive vibe. It was nice seeing family groups of diverse backgrounds dining in. What stood up immediately upon entering was the exceptional customer service, I feel warmly welcomed like I was dining at someone’s proud home.
The 5 course Restaurant Month menu featured signature dishes and it was a wonderful introduction to Hello Beasty. To start I ordered Umeshu and Antipodes, and awaited spicy edamame which was lovely and a palate igniter, followed by the trevally crude in a yuck broth with pickled radish and avocado cream. This dish was gorgeous with vibrant sharp flavours dancing on my palate and it excites me for further dishes.
Following on, the signature KFC, Korean Fried Cauliflower came out and this dish was outstanding. Crispy, sweet, tart and sticky bite size morsels being consumed with a smile of satisfaction. This was a stand out dish! Next out of the gate was a ramen cup soup with pork and dumplings. This was lovely if not underwhelming, comparative to previous dishes, but I nice cleanser in preparation for dessert.
The dessert was sublime, a plaited sugar doughnut, Kwabegi, drizzled with chocolate and salted caramel served with a miso soft serve and yuzu drizzle. This was the perfect close to my dining experience.
It was wonderful chatting with the chef about the visually stunning dishes he was preparing and sending out and to get ideas on what to order next visit. I had a most memorable dining experience and across the board Hello Beasty was excellence exemplified! Highly recommended with distinction!
A.Had an amazing experience last night! My partner and I ordered seven dishes across the board, and were thoroughly impressed with every dish. A big surprise was the korean fried cauliflower ! I'm usually not a cauli fan, but this dish blew me out of the water with how good it was! This was my partner's favourite dish. My favourite was definitely the duck gua bao. The flavours were excellent as well as the contrasting textures. Also, whoever came up with the idea for the green herby sauce served with the spring onion pancake: you're a genius! Both my partner and I could not get enough, so much so that we commented how good it was to our waiter, who brought us more of it! Speaking of, our waiter, Genie, was amazing. She was so kind and brought along a really good mood that made our meal even better! All in all: amazing food, great drinks, fantastic modern atmosphere, and outstanding wait staff. So much so that it prompted me to write my first ever restaurant review! My partner and I will definitely be going back to Hello Beasty!
N.Hello Beasty is definitely THE restaurant to visit if you are in Auckland. Well-located in Central Auckland, the restaurant can receive small groups for business dinners or a couple going there to enjoy a great meal together. It is simple, every meal we had was better than the previous one and it was a 100% success rate. They have good portions, made to be shared so I would recommend for you to go as a small group so that you can enjoy more of their delicious plates. I would strongly recommend the tuna tartar, the kaarage chicken, the wagyu kushiyaki (skewers, perfectly cooked) and even their charred broccolini were fantastic. The staff is also extremely nice, welcoming and definitely wants you to have the best experience possible. You can also see the chef, Stuart Rogan in action with his brigade. I don't know when I will be back in town, but I do know that I will be back there when it happens. Thank you chef and your team.

B.We went here for dinner last night and it was great. Amazing food and flavors (actually spicy, unlike many places we ate in NZ!), good drinks (get the kimchi bloody!), and great service. They even comped our first round of drinks because they felt the food took too long to arrive to our table. The hostess/waitress was super friendly and attentive, which has not been the case at most places we ate at in NZ. Kentucky fried cauliflower is delicious along with everything else we ate. Highly recommend!

The fried cauliflower was surprisingly delicious. Probably the best way to eat cauliflower known to man. Loved the kingfish - exceptional balance of salty and citrusy flavours. The lamb was tender, melt in your mouth. It's a must.
Very accommodating during prior to and during my 21st, especially with the inconvenience of lockdown.
Two problems: one, the seating wasn't ideal for a typical European popliteal height - understandable, but not the most comfortable sitting down; two, the table structure felt limited by the restaurant's floor plan leaving me feeling a bit subdued around a large group of people.
Overall, very good atmosphere and food. Regrettably, two exceptions away from a perfect experience.
S.Highly recommend Hello Beasty! Really delicious food with a bunch of vegetarian options as well. The vege dumplings are amazing, along with the fried cauliflower. But the surprise was the side of miso glazed carrot, wow. I've never had carrots this way. Unbelievable flavour! Great range of cocktails as well and the interior fitout is really nice.

Everything on modern Asian menu looked great, it was difficult to choose! The food was high quality, well presented and most importantly, full of flavour and delicious. Portion sizes were perfect (shared 4 dishes plus 1 dessert between 2 people) and were reasonably priced considering its viaduct location. The staff were also very friendly and attentive and the online booking system was a big plus ✅ ✅.

A.I previously wrote a lukewarm review elsewhere just after they opened. But happy to change my mind.
TLDR: great service, ethical operation (especially during challenging Covid times), great food and drinks, and excellent staff. This review is based off a professional guy dining alone for lunch (3 non-main plates, one dessert, one mocktail and one tea - total spend $105).
Let’s start off with service. Unlike 90% of restaurants where waitstaff that are not dedicated to staffing the door ignore patrons at the entrance, a young male waiter attended to me quickly, scanned the Covid pass, and asked me to wait a bit as a big crowd wanting to split bill seemingly cleared out. Good start.
Menu was sensibly introduced, they waited for my drinks order without rushing, and the lady owner came by for a good chat. The kind that’s meaningful and friendly. The drink was exactly as described - tangy, refreshing and perfect for summer. Generously proportioned too.
Food-wise just take it from me that they present well, do justice to the very fresh ingredients, and create interesting contrasts of flavours that enhance your palate. One example will do: most places’ mixed sashimi (looking at you Ebisu and Masu) tend to be just random clumps of poor quality seafood and a big letdown. Not here. The Glory Bay salmon pieces were clearly toro (tummy) - thick, creamy and just plain wonderful. The condiments were a delight - most places put in ginger that have been so over-syruped that you feel like gagging instead of it cleansing your palate. Whereas here I suspected the kitchen added in ginger juice and other things that created a taste that just plain reverberates in your mouth. It was that good.
Finally lots of credit to them for operating an ethical business. The owner chef is, like almost every other owner chef, the sort who looks rather serious. But there were no crazy boss antics. All the interactions I observed were respectful and friendly. They had plenty of staff and all of whom appeared happy and helpful. And congratulations for taking all the social distancing rules 110% seriously. No funny interpretations of one metre and groups were properly distanced.
Good vibes too. If you are into your music, it’s there but you can go to a quieter corner and have a chat.

A.Like wow. Is this place for real? How cute is...everything in this place? Food was amazing and really well presented. I'm a little skeptic about Asian fusion but this place has got it right. The sevice was on point. Friendly staff who was helpful to move tables as we had one more friend join unexpectedly. They have blankets to help you fight the cold damp winter of Auckland. It wasn't needed as the whole place is well toasty!
If you must ask, I used the blanket anyways haha love to be all cuddled up when its pouring outside.

A.Highly recommend getting twice the number of flat beards that you expect to mop up all the great sauces. The habatchi dishes are highly recommended as is the sashimi.

K.What a delightful, relaxed place serving great food with a smile! I particularly appreciated that there was a separate vegetarian and gluten free menu so I didn’t have to feel like a nuisance ordering ‘special’ dishes. Everything we ordered was divine and the eating experience was really quite special. Staff are all lovely too- happy in their work and great to chat to. Can’t wait to go back with a big group next week!

J.We visited Hello Beasty several nights in the second week of 2018, only a few weeks after the place was first opened to the public, and found the food to be consistently good and in restrospect probably amongst the top Asian-Kiwi fusion restaurants in New Zealand. Every dish we had was cooked to perfection, the staff were really friendly and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great. We mostly sat at the bar where we could see (admire) the chefs preparing the food with great dedication and incredible attention to detail. Interestingly, this is the only place in all my travels where I was able to find Asahi Black, the Japanese stout equivalent of Guinness.

T.I cannot recommend this place highly enough! The whole experience from walking in to leaving the front door is feelgood and relaxing, considerate and lively. Most chairs had places to hold your bags and belongings, but little black bag holders are also provided if the staff see your bag on the floor. I love this detail in my experience, how thoughtful is that!!!! The kitchen is uncovered and you can see all the incredibly hard work behind the scenes and your food even being plated up. The food combinations are unique and innovative and so damn delicious 😋😍. I will be going back!!!

J.Visited here as a 2 person dinner as well as a large group (>10ppl) and definitely had a better experience in the large group with the “Feed Me” menu. I wonder if it’s because they have a few stand-out dishes but maybe only average in a few others. I think that’s the reality of fusion food where it’s harder to be great across the board. Also due to the busy nature and generally noisy environment of this restaurant, service was ok but not amazing.
G.Dined in for lunch at hello beasty and was very impressed i'm not usually a big fan of asain food but this food was delicious and the staff were so friendly would 100 percent recommended this place to anyone, very beautiful restaurant nice and clean and in such a good location. You can see the chefs cooking out in the open and the whole place has a very nice ambience. It would be good to go out with a group of friends and share the food there. Definitely a 10/10.

Got served drinks by the amazing Craig who was an absolute legend (their cocktails were delish I recommend Heart & Seoul). The chefs were very impressive to watch and was getting a lot of fomo with all the food they were making. Everything we ate on their dinner menu was delicious so you can't go wrong!

E.This is a lovely place, I came here for my hen's night and loved the food. Service was excellent and attentive, even though they were very busy! The only reason I didn't give them five stars is their limited vegetarian menu - like many other places all their vegetarian options were spicy. If that's your thing though, then this is the place for you!

L.I really loved the food, service was great too but seating has a 'don't get too comfortable' vibe and the atmosphere was more nightclub than restaurant, conversation was not really an option, too noisy, but the food was so good that wasn't a major problem. I probably wouldn't go back because I don't like to feel rushed when I'm out for a meal and I like to be able to chat. The place was packed on a Wednesday night and we couldn't get in until 8.30pm so recommend booking.
J.Food and service 5 star. But a few things lost a star for me. 1 there are candles on the tiny tables with paper menus, totally unnecessary and almost caught fire. 2. The bathrooms bins were overflowing with paper towels and need to be better serviced.

None of us could decide what was the best as they were all equally amazing.The Slow Cooked Kaipara Lamb Shoulder is one of the finest dishes I have had...... this is a dish I will save to myself when we visit again. These are all sharing plates. I suggest go with a group of friends 6 or more so you can try as many dishes. Truly a gem of the Viaduct. My friends are very much looking forward to the next visit.

The very attentive service paired with a laid back atmosphere made us feel right at home. The assortment of foods we tasted were nothing short of amazing. The tuna tartar and the spinach & tofu dumplings were terrific. The star of the night was the Wagyu beef, which we had as part of the prawn toast. We rounded out the night with the marshmallow dessert. If you're looking for a taste explosion, this is your destination.

I.Food was sublime, particularly the hapuka, would have loved to order more off the extensive menu. They seemed to struggle a little with the vegan celiac in the group, but did everything they could to come up with a dish that met her requirements. This response, and the attentive service in general, was a highlight alongside the food.
B.Delicious food, fantastic and friendly environment but unfortunately let down by being under staffed. Our first entrée dish took 50 minutes to come out, followed by another single entrée dish 15 minutes later.
We were a party of 8 so you could image sharing 2 small entrée dishes after such a long wait would be like. The remaining food finally arrived in just under 2 hours after which everyone’s appetite was ruined.

H.Good service. Food is under average. Chicken Karaage with miso sauce is too salty. Lamb dish is a quite bland. Sake is served in wine glasses. Ceviche and their vegan dishes are good. Verdict: not worth the money for food nor the setting.

J.Between 4 of us we sampled a fair bit of the menu; Potstickers, Katsu Sando, Ramen, Karaage Chicken, Prawn & Crab Toast, Vanuatu prawns, Slow-cooked Lamb Shoulder and for dessert Chocolate parfait and Kkwabaegi....... Every single thing was faultless - from the taste, texture and presentation of the food to the level of service (our Maitredde was divine) and atmosphere. One star reluctantly deducted because it is on the pricey side. The bigger plates are a decent portion and are better value, the smaller plates are just that and an adult would need 2-3, add desserts and drinks and the cost stacks up. In saying that I don't think you'd come here, or anywhere on the Viaduct, for a budget bite and the freshness and deliciousness of everything more than makes up for it. I'll be back and I'll pay $25 for 4 prawns because they were that good! A must try, you won't be disappointed.
